Four astronauts blasted off from Florida on Wednesday (April 1) on NASA's Artemis II mission, a high-stakes voyage around the moon that marks the United States' boldest step yet toward returning humans to the lunar surface later this decade in a race with China.

00:02Four astronauts blasted off from Florida on Wednesday aboard NASA's Artemis 2 mission,
00:08marking a significant step in the United States' efforts to return humans to the moon.
00:15The Space Launch System rocket lifted off just before sunset from the Kennedy Space Center,
00:21carrying NASA astronauts Reed Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch,
00:26and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.
00:29The crew is set for a nearly 10-day journey around the moon and back.
00:33The mission follows nearly three years of training and is the first crewed flight under NASA's Artemis program,
00:40which was launched in 2017.
00:43U.S. President Donald Trump congratulated the team,
00:46describing the mission as amazing and praising the astronauts for their courage.
