A Russian oil tanker has arrived in Cuba, delivering the island’s first major crude shipment in months—offering temporary relief to a country struggling with severe fuel shortages and nationwide blackouts.

The sanctioned tanker Anatoly Kolodkin is carrying around 730,000 barrels of crude oil, after the United States allowed limited passage despite its ongoing energy blockade.

Cuba has been facing one of its worst energy crises in decades, worsened after the loss of Venezuelan oil supplies earlier this year and tightening US sanctions.

While officials say the shipment could help restore electricity and fuel supplies, experts warn it may only meet the country’s needs for a matter of days—raising questions about whether this relief is enough.

Russia has described the shipment as “humanitarian support,” while the US maintains that broader pressure on Cuba remains in place.
