00:07As tensions rise in West Asia, the US Central Command said more than 10,000 sailors, marines,
00:14and airmen, supported by over a dozen warships and dozens of aircraft, are carrying out a
00:20mission to blockade ships entering and leaving Iranian ports.
00:24The statement came after the United States began a naval blockade against Iran following
00:29the expiry of a deadline set by US President Donald Trump.
00:34In a post on Ex on Tuesday, US Central Command stated that during the first 24 hours of the
00:40blockade, no ships were able to pass.
00:43It further noted that the blockade is being enforced against vessels of all nations which
00:47are departing or entering Iranian ports and coastal areas.
00:53So far six merchant vessels complied with direction from US forces to turn around to re-enter an
00:59Iranian port on the Gulf of Oman, the US military's Central Command said in a statement, Reuters

01:05In a note sent to seafarers about the blockade on Monday, the US military said, any vessel
01:11entering or departing the blockaded area without authorization is subject to interception, diversion,
01:17and capture.
01:20The Strait of Hormuz emerged as one of the key bones of contention after the failure of peace
01:26talks in Pakistan.
01:28However, global efforts are underway to revive the vital energy artery.
01:36In light of the developments, France and the United Kingdom are set to host a joint conference
01:42aimed at bringing together over 40 countries to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait
01:46of Hormuz.
01:48In a post on Ex, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that the video conference will take
01:53place in Paris on Friday, later this week, which would see peaceful players come together
01:58and contribute towards a multilateral and defensive mission, aimed at restoring the freedom of
02:04navigation in the world's critical energy choke point.
02:09Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday received a call from US President Trump
02:15during which the two leaders discussed the security situation in West Asia and stressed the importance
02:20of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure.
