00:04A major overhaul of Australia's gambling advertising laws has been unveiled,
00:09with sweeping reforms set to reshape how betting is promoted across TV, radio and online.

00:20Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the changes at the National Press Club,
00:25which will ban gambling ads during live sport broadcasts between 6am and 8.30pm,
00:31and restrict TV promotions to three an hour outside those windows.

00:37One of the things that I have said to some of the advocates,
00:41overwhelmingly, more than half of problem gambling is about poker machines.
00:46That's not covered by any of this at all.
00:49And so we will deal with things appropriately.
00:53With regard to a duty of care, we're considering a duty of care when it comes to online that's much
01:02broader than just this.
01:04So it's that context of reform is what we'll be taking forward.
01:09Online ads will only be allowed for verified adults, with opt-out options required,
01:15while gambling logos will be removed from team uniforms and stadiums.
01:20The reforms, due to begin in 2027, aim to reduce harm and limit children's exposure,
01:26while still allowing adults to gamble.
