00:00Let's bring up Bloomberg Politics Editor, Laura Davidson.
00:03Laura, I thought the tweet from President Trump yesterday really kind of contextualised how uncertain it was
00:10because on the one hand he's making further threats, more severe threats.
00:13On the other hand, he's still sort of optimistic that a deal will be done.
00:17We're now hearing of now this Kuwaiti asset being hit as well.
00:24So there are all signs that we're seeing widening and escalation of this conflict.
00:29Yes, we've seen President Trump really vacillate between saying that he's optimistic a deal will come together,
00:35thinks it'll come together soon.
00:36He says that the Iranians are being, quote, reasonable.
00:39And then almost, you know, day by day he'll switch and say that, you know,
00:43we just heard him in the U.S. morning renew those threats to strike energy sites within Iran
00:49and perhaps even desalination plants.
00:51I'll note that would be a war crime.
00:52So we're really seeing sort of two sides.
00:54And depending on the mood, depending on the vibes on any given day, he's sort of toggling between these two
00:59positions.
01:00You know, this is after we've seen kind of additional parties get into this war.
01:05You know, the Houthis over the weekend, they, you know, got engaged in the conflict.
01:09The U.S. has sent thousands more Marines to the area.
01:12Those have not been deployed yet.
01:14But there's a lot of speculation about what kind of missions those could be sent on,
01:19with Trump even speculating that he, you know, is thinking about some sort of taking of the Iran oil
01:25that would involve an operation on Karg Island.
01:27You know, and this latest strike from Iran, you know, targeting a Dubai port and Kuwaiti tankers,
01:33suggests that Iran is really nudging U.S. allies in the region, expanding the pain for them,
01:38you know, in hopes to put pressure on the U.S. to end this conflict.
