00:14We are helping them find their perfect country house.
00:20I love how lush it is. Like there's definitely a lot of greenery. Kind of magical.
00:24It's amazing. I feel like I'm in Barbie's dream house.
00:33Today we're in Summerland, British Columbia with Nick and Theresa looking for their perfect country home.
00:38They've got a long list of criteria, but I think we can check all those boxes.
00:42Let's see what we can find.

00:51I'm Geoff. Now just to recap, you build houses, you design them.

01:02Now we're trying to escape that hustle and bustle of the city and move out to the countryside.
01:06But I mean, with the family and everything, what are the main things we're looking for today?
01:16We're in the Lower Mainland near the Vancouver area.
01:19We spent about a decade there and life's a little busier there.
01:24Looking for something a little quieter.
01:25We are looking for lots of space inside and outside the house because we've got three kids and two dogs.
01:33I'm from just north of Seattle.
01:35And I'm from a small town in northern BC.
01:37But we met in New Zealand, half a world away.
01:40So I was there for a year and he came my last six months.
01:43And when we met, we were best friends.
01:45She thought we were best friends. I was head over heels from day one.
01:49It took a while to convince her. She tried to get rid of me a few times.
01:52So I came back and met my parents and then we officially got together.
01:58I think she just realized that I wasn't going anywhere, so she finally gave in.
02:01Yeah, right.
02:04I build houses, do large scale renovations.
02:07And I'm an interior designer, so we do kind of know houses through and through.
02:12We've definitely got a big list of things we're looking for.
02:14It'd be nice to have lots of opportunities for the kids to get outside.
02:17That's right. Get off the screens.
02:19And that's really what the Okanagan has to offer.
02:21And any sort of view and privacy.
02:24I'm definitely looking for more open concept.
02:26I like the idea of being able to still converse with everybody that's over in the dining room, the living
02:29room.
02:30We've always loved the feel of open concept.
02:32We do love to garden and our kids enjoy gardening as well.
02:35So a little bit of space to garden.
02:39Kind of anywhere in the 1.4 to 1.6-ish neighborhood, depending on the place.
02:44If it had the right things, it'd maybe go a little bit higher, but somewhere in that range would be
02:47nice.

12:14It's a little bit, probably less square footage, but a much nicer, bigger piece of land.

12:25So if you think about it, I mean, over three acres of land as well.
12:31The price is a little over our budget, but I don't know.

13:29Now, tell me everything about Shaughnessy.
13:32Well, where to start?
13:33We're kind of an iconic part of the Summerland landscape at this point.
13:37Kind of the main culinary option, but I think just a meeting hub for people from Kelowna, Summerland, Peachland, Penticton,
13:45further south.
13:45This is all of wine country all around you.
13:49Yeah.
13:50I mean, the lake is obviously prominently featured.
13:52That's a big part of the valley in general.
13:55I'm surrounded by wineries, breweries, incredible landscapes.
13:59I understand why people are driven here.
14:01I mean, what drove you here to begin with?
14:02I was in a unique position of living abroad and traveling and had seen some of the best of the
14:06best in the world.
14:07And when it came time to move back to Canada, it just kind of ticked all the boxes.
14:11And yeah, that was supposed to be a quick summer.
14:13And seven years later, here I am.
14:15Exactly.
14:16Why would you leave?
14:17I mean, I don't really want to go anywhere.
14:18Exactly.
14:19Now, what is it that's bringing people that want to move to this area?
14:22I mean, this part of Summerland.
14:23We pretty much have something for everyone.
14:25You know, you could go hiking, paddle boarding, swimming, wine tasting all in one day.
14:30Yeah, all in one day.
14:31Oh, easily.
14:32Yeah, and then still have time for a mountain bike or something after.
14:35It's action packed.
14:36Definitely.
14:37And then cruise out on the boat in the evening and have a cocktail for sundown.
14:40Yeah, you can even pull your boat up right up to our dock here.

14:44What easier way to get around than that, right?
14:45I mean, that sounds fantastic.
14:47Is there any, like, signature cocktails or anything you guys do?
14:50Probably the one that we're most known for would be the Cove Margarita.

19:20After a lot of debating, we chose.
19:31Teresa and Nick have toured three amazing properties, each with its own unique features.
19:37But which one will they choose?
19:41Well, I think we picked a perfect day to rendezvous back.

19:48I mean, I loved all of them.
19:49This is one of those ones where I don't really know which way you're leaning.
19:52What did you guys like the most about house number one?
19:54Oh, gosh.
19:58The style of it and that you got a peekaboo lake view.
20:02Yeah, it was probably the nicest lake view out of the three houses.
20:05I really loved how the pool was right accessible off the main floor and through the master bedroom.
20:10Yeah, and lots of room for the kids.
20:12There was lots of bedrooms.

20:14Then we move on to house number two.
20:17Yeah, it was so unique.
20:19Loved the view.
20:20That view of the valley.
20:22So, yeah, I found that really inspiring.
20:24It's a phenomenal house.
20:25I mean, you can't beat that view.
20:26It just went on and on.
20:27And the craftsmanship in that house was second to none.
20:30A little bit of a trek to get to the pool, but once you're up there.

20:33Pretty incredible.
20:36Now, moving on to house number three.

20:40That one just had so much character.

20:43Gardens and fruit trees and just kind of like lots of fun stuff.

20:49Yeah, it was the richest house when it came to nature.
20:51You know, the trees on the property, the gardens on the property, the trees around the property, the chickens.

20:57That was lots of nature going on in there.

21:03Well, my vote would be for one of the newer construction ones.
