00:07the war soon.
00:10Syrian interim president has been invited for talks with the German government, despite accusations of serious crimes against minorities in
00:17Syria.
00:20Europe's fisheries and aquaculture sectors are facing growing strain from geopolitical tensions and rising costs EU commissioner Kostas Kadis has
00:28warned.
00:30NASA's Artemis II mission is set to launch as early as April 1st with a crew of four on a
00:3410-day voyage around the moon, testing the spacecraft's readiness for future lunar landings.
00:41U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iran's oil export hub of Karg Island, along with other oil
00:50wells and power plants, if Tehran does not agree to end the war soon.
00:55He wrote on his Truth Social Network that the United States is in, quote, serious discussions with a more reasonable
01:02regime.
01:03About 90% of Iran's crude oil exports leave the country via Karg Island, much of it destined for China
01:11and other Asian markets.
01:12Any attack on its energy infrastructure could have serious consequences for global oil markets that have already been pushed to
01:20the brink.
01:21Meanwhile, a fire broke out on Monday at an oil refinery in the northern Israeli city of Haifa for the
01:27second time during the month-long war with Iran.
01:30Images showed flames on a large refinery tank with thick black smoke that was quickly extinguished by Israel's fire and
01:37rescue services.
01:40It wasn't clear if it was a missile strike or debris from the interception that caused the blaze.
01:46The attack comes as Israel launched attacks targeting Iran's South Par's natural gas field.
01:58Spain has banned U.S. military aircraft involved in the Iran war from using its airspace and military bases.
02:05The ban extends an earlier restriction that applied only to two American installations on Spanish soil and now covers the
02:12entire country.
02:30The restrictions have been communicated to U.S. forces from the outset and are not a sudden policy shift, she
02:36stressed.
02:36Foreign Minister José Manuel Álvarez added Madrid would block any U.S. flights linked to the conflict from entering Spanish
02:44airspace.
02:45The U.S. did not immediately comment, but U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened earlier this month to cut
02:51off all trade with Spain
02:53over its refusal to allow the bases to be used for Iran operations.
02:58Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has taken a stance against the war in Iran, led by the United States and
03:04Israel, calling it an extraordinary mistake.
03:12As we enter the fifth week of this war, diplomatic efforts have intensified.
03:16Regional powers met in Pakistan looking for a way to open direct talks between Washington and Tehran
03:22and prevent this conflict from spiraling even further.
03:26Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt gathered in Islamabad without the U.S. or Israel at the table.
03:33Pakistan is positioning itself as a mediator, leveraging ties with both sides after weeks of what officials describe as quiet
03:40diplomacy.
03:41Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, U.S. President Donald Trump says they are negotiating with Iran, quote,
03:47directly and indirectly.
03:49I think we'll make a deal with them, pretty sure.
03:52But it's possible we won't.
03:54But we've had regime change, if you look, already, because the one regime was decimated, destroyed.
04:02They're all dead.
04:03The next regime is mostly dead.
04:06And the third regime, we're dealing with different people than anybody's dealt with before.
04:10It's a whole different group of people.
04:12So I would consider that regime change.
04:15And frankly, they've been very reasonable.
04:17But the tone from Tehran is very different.
04:21Iran says it is ready for the possibility of a U.S. ground invasion,
04:24with a senior official warning American troops would face a severe response if deployed.
04:29And that warning is already being backed up by action.
04:32On Friday, Iran struck a U.S. airbase in Saudi Arabia, injuring 15 troops and damaging several American aircraft on
04:40the ground.
04:40Meanwhile, in Qatar, American universities have been closed after Iran's Revolutionary Guard threatened retaliation following strikes on two Iranian universities.
04:49So the signal from Tehran is clear.
04:52It's not just a warning to Washington about escalation, but also a signal to regional allies that they are firmly
04:58within striking range.
04:59Adil Halim, Euronews, Doha.
05:06The Syrian interim president, Ahmed Al-Shahara, has been invited to talks with the German government on Monday.
05:12He was first received by federal president Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
05:16Federal chancellor Friedrich Merz and foreign minister Johan Wadepul also met the Syrian ruler.
05:22This is despite critics accusing Al-Shahara of serious crimes against minorities in Syria.
05:28Last weekend, armed Islamists are said to have attacked Christian shops.
05:33In western Syria, the attackers also tried to set fire to several houses.
05:38Since the fall of the dictator Assad in December 2024,
05:42attacks on Alevis, Druze, Kurds and Christians in Syria have been on the rise.
05:47Government spokesman Stefan Cornelius rejected criticism of the visit on Friday.
05:53It was very important to exchange views with the leaders of this region.
05:57We have interest there, Cornelius told journalists.
06:01The agenda includes the situation in the region and the domestic political situation in Syria, explained Cornelius.
06:08The coexistence of the various ethnic groups is also a topic as the return of Syrians.
06:20Europe's fisheries and aquaculture sectors are facing growing strain from geopolitical tensions and rising costs,
06:27EU commissioner Kostas Kadis has warned.
06:29Speaking on Europe Today, Kadis said urgent support is needed to keep the industry competitive.
06:35The challenges are many.
06:38Now we are focusing on providing support to our sector so that it remains competitive,
06:46because indeed the conflict in the Middle East has negatively affected the fisheries and aquaculture sectors,
06:55the seafood market and the coastal communities.
06:59The more pressing concern, he said, is economic pressure on this sector.
07:03Some operators have already stopped their activities because they had a marginal profitability
07:11and now with the increase of the fuel prices, they cannot deal with the cost.
07:18He urged a coordinated EU response and faster progress on energy transition to reduce exposure to future shocks.
07:26The European Commission is considering short-term supports via the bloc's maritime funding tools,
07:32similar to measures introduced after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
07:38Kosovo is bearing the brunt of the economic crisis triggered by the war in Iran.
07:43For this country, one of the poorest in Europe, rising fuel prices are having an immediate impact on businesses.
07:50In the agricultural sector, for example, price volatility is proving particularly challenging.
08:20We are going to be able to do the cost of the cost of the fuel prices.
08:27Whilst Kosovo's neighbouring countries have introduced support measures to limit the effect of rising fuel prices,
08:33the Kosovo government has still not taken action.
08:36However, according to economic experts, the authorities must act swiftly to prevent further damage.
08:42The economic difficulties are exacerbated by the political difficulties in Kosovo.
08:49The Prime Minister is in a political deadlock and the opposition is condemning what it calls his governance in action.
08:59Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in several regions of Russia's North Caucasus.
09:05Dagestan and Chechnya were hit hardest where massive evacuations took place.
09:10In Makashkala water-flooded streets, rescuers carried out children and the elderly,
09:16while residents tried to save documents and belongings.
09:19Many said the flood came suddenly and literally swept away everything in its path.
09:32The Dagestan authorities have declared a state of emergency.
09:36In a state of emergency, bridges have been damaged and more than 130 settlements are without electricity.
09:41According to the authorities, more than 3,300 people have been evacuated in the region.
09:48In rural areas, the water rose so high that it reached the animals' chests, residents and their livestock were led
09:55to higher ground.
09:56A state of emergency is also in effect in Chechnya, where local services continue to pump out water and clear
10:02roads.
10:03Rivers that burst their banks, destroyed roads and flooded hundreds of homes.
10:07In the Good Hermes district, one of the hardest-hit areas, about 500 people have been evacuated.
10:15According to weather forecasters, the intensity of the rains decreased by Sunday evening,
10:20but the full extent of the damage has yet to be assessed.
10:28The countdown has entered its final stage at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida
10:33as NASA prepares for a mission that will take humans further into deep space than ever before.
10:39Targeted for a liftoff as early as 1st of April,
10:42the Artemis 2 mission will send a crew of four on a 10-day voyage around the Moon
10:46to test the Orion spacecraft's readiness for future lunar landings.
10:50While the crew will not touch down on the surface during this flight,
10:54they will venture thousands of kilometers further than the Apollo pioneers of the 1960s and 70s.
11:00The team is led by Commander Reed Weisman, a retired Navy captain and former NASA chief astronaut.
11:06Joining him is pilot Victor Glover, who will become the first person of color to fly to the Moon,
11:11and mission specialist Christina Koch, who holds the record for the longest single space flight by a woman.
11:17The fourth member, Jeremy Hansen, a former fighter pilot and physicist,
11:21is also set to make history as the first Canadian to travel beyond low Earth orbit.
11:27The astronauts are currently in strict quarantine,
11:30reviewing emergency procedures and spending their final moments with their families.
11:35If the current schedule holds, the Space Launch System rocket is expected to ignite at 6.24pm local time this
11:42Wednesday.
