00:07Welcome to MojoPlays and today we're ranking the last bosses from across the
00:12Soulsborne series based on their narrative impact and mechanical fluidity. Please keep
00:17in mind we'll only be considering those that are considered the actual final boss found
00:21at each game's climax. This means bosses locked away behind certain conditions are
00:26legible as long as it's obvious they're the intended ultimate obstacle. We won't however
00:31be including DLC bosses. That's a list for another time.
00:48Before we begin we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:53the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:57Number 7, King Allant, Demon's Souls.
01:07While the idea of a false king ruling over the frightened populace while the true one lurked
01:12inside the belly of an eldritch entity, reduced to a slathering mass of demon entrails is a
01:17great twist, the execution is sorely lacking. Old King Allant is arguably the game's hardest
01:23boss, while his true form is about as weak as they come.
01:41Casually swing your sword down and after a minute of hacking, that's it. We get what
01:45they were going for here, but we still can't help but feel there was a better way to end
01:49both Allant's deception as well as the game as a whole.
01:53You fool! Don't you understand? No one wishes to go on.
01:59Number 6, Nashandra, Dark Souls 2.
02:04Now, be one.
02:08Now, be one.
02:10An echo of the father of the abyss, a manifestation of his wretched desire. A queen who poisoned her
02:17king with honey words while his kingdom fell to ruin. On paper, Nashandra has the makings
02:22of a top tier villain and exquisite final fight. Alas, even with such a terrifying crew
02:27form, her battle barely reaches beyond the mediocre level.
02:38Her scythe swings and lasers are easy enough to avoid. And while her constantly casting curse
02:43might sound like a problem, as long as you have enough purging stones, it shouldn't be
02:47an issue. Hell, there's every chance that if you've got the right build, you should be
02:51able to just cut her to pieces before the curse status builds up too much. Nashandra may be
02:56more of a lover than a fighter, but we expected something more from Manus's deathly daughter.
03:11Number 5, Elden Beast, Elden Ring.
03:23Summoned immediately after the brief, brutal and brilliant battle with Radagon, this embodiment
03:28of the greater will makes quite the first impression. Unfortunately, what could have been an incredible
03:34end to our Tarnished journey is one of frustration. All for one single reason. The arena is too
03:41damn big. We have no problem with its onslaught of gilded attacks. They pose quite the challenge,
03:47and overcoming them feels like a test worthy of an Elden Lord.
04:01The issue is that the damn thing keeps swimming to the other side of what feels like the entirety
04:06of the lands between, and by the time you rush on over, it's getting ready to flee again.
04:11We give the Elden Beast all the credit for style, but its substance could have used a little work.
04:27Number 4, Moon Presence, Bloodborne.
04:36While still not exactly reaching the heights of the previous battle against the likes of
04:41Gehrman, the Moon Presence is still a worthy finale for any hunter worth their salt. For one thing,
04:46its entrance is pure cinema. As the creator of the Hunter's Dream, this great one worked behind the
04:52scenes in order to have hunters alike kill off others of its kind. For what purpose? No idea,
04:57because as long as you have a set number of umbilical cords on hand,
05:00you're free to fight it and end its machinations for good.
05:11In battle, it's akin to a beast with huge range, lashing out with insane speed. Though as long as
05:17you're quick on your feet and stay clear of its doom gaze, a burst of magic that can reduce your
05:21HP
05:223 to 1 instantly, then this lunar monstrosity is far from the worst thing you'll have tangled with in Yharnam.
05:38Number 3, Soul of Cinder, Dark Souls 3.
05:53An end to the Age of Fire demanded a foe who could live up to the legacy of the Dark
05:57Souls trilogy's
05:58body of excellence. And in that regard, the Soul of Cinder did not disappoint. An amalgamation of all
06:04who have linked the first flame, this towering knight is a jack of all trades, constantly switching
06:10between various weapon loadouts, from swords to stars to even bursts of lightning. Things come full
06:15circle during its final phase, where it channels the moveset and soundtrack of Gwyn, truly painting it
06:21as the end of all things. You are but one speck of ash among legions, but nonetheless are enough to
06:38conquer
06:39those that have come before. While it pales in comparison to the DLC bosses, as far as final
06:44challenges go, this Walking Inferno is a winner.
06:59Number 2, Gwyn, Lord of Cinder, Dark Souls
07:10The one who started it all. The war, the linking of the flame, now just a burning husk in dire
07:16need of
07:17being replaced. Despite being a shadow of his former dragon hunting splendour, Gwyn's introduction
07:22and subsequent battle is a melody of flames and fury. Along with his iconic theme, the battle feels grandiose
07:29in every way, especially given this old man does not give you any room to breathe.
07:40Continually mounting on the pressure with blazing sword swings are plenty, until he's finally put
07:45out of his misery. What you choose to do with the first flame is up to you, but there's no
07:50denying how
07:50epic the confrontation to reach it was.
08:06Number 1, Isshin, The Sword Saint
08:09Shadows Die Twice
08:18The peak of difficulty as well as the peak of quality. Everything about Isshin, from his reveal
08:24to the duel against him, is masterfully done. Born from his grandson's dying wish to return
08:29the Ashina clan to glory via the mortal blade, Isshin is restored to life, now in his prime,
08:35emerging from Genichiro's gaping neck wound, before announcing how he'll destroy us.
08:40That's just metal. From there, it's an uphill battle, as Isshin showcases why he's the strongest
08:46sword wielder in the land.
08:54Between the strength of his swings, to his spear that can catch lightning, to him randomly busting
08:59out a gun, there are no shortcuts here. Only Soulsborne excellence, and the ultimate invitation to get good.
