00:07Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at 10 failed games that Sony hopes
00:13you'll forget about, but you know we won't.
00:21Before we begin we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to MojoPlays

00:31Concord!
00:38Let's just get this one out of the way, okay?
00:40We're tired of talking about this game, but hopefully by now you'll have heard most of
00:45what happened with Concord.
00:46It was a hero shooter that floundered in development for seven years before Sony got involved,
00:51then they dumped 400 million dollars into the game and the acquisition of developer
00:55Firewalk Studios, then they believed Concord would be the next Star Wars, and then the
01:00game bombed.
01:01That's the whole story in a nutshell.
01:02Oh my, how dramatic.
01:04Nothing about Concord distinguished itself from other hero shooters, and the gameplay felt slow
01:09and awkward between most of the characters.
01:11Sales were so abysmal that Sony went and gave up on it, and then removed the game from sale
01:17merely 11 days after launch, and now Concord only exists as a limited edition PS5 controller,
01:26and that one decent episode on Amazon's secret level series.
01:30Also, it is a pleasure flying the galaxy with you.
01:33Also, you do not stand a chance.
01:35And your name does not intimidate us.
01:38Extreme series.
01:49In the early years of PlayStation, first-party developers were throwing everything they could
01:54at the wall just to see what stuck.
01:56Surprisingly, Sony tried several times to cut their own slice of the sports gaming pie
02:01throughout the PS1's lifespan.
02:03Unfortunately, the Extreme series never really took off.
02:07ESPN Extreme Games, aka One Extreme as it would be rebranded after the ESPN license expired,
02:15saw the most critical praise.
02:16Which, it wasn't much praise, honestly.
02:20Reviews were mixed, but Sony pushed ahead with Extreme 2,
02:23a sequel that saw a drastic decline in quality with its oppressive AI,
02:28messy menu navigation, and samey level design.
02:383 Extreme, the final game in the series, did even worse.
02:43Eventually, Sony gave up on this series,
02:45and hasn't bothered revisiting Extreme Sports as a whole since.
02:49At the time of this video, 2 Extreme is the only entry in the series
02:53that is commercially available on PS5 and PS4.
03:04Destruction All-Stars
03:13Speaking of sports games, or games with a sport-ish attitude about it,
03:19Destruction All-Stars tried to make Demolition Derby more appealing with a cast of colorful combatants,
03:24showboats, and, ugh, influencers.
03:28Unfortunately, not any one of the characters are likable in any way,
03:32and come off obnoxious with their lackluster trash talk.
03:36Think if WWE wrestlers were told they couldn't curse or say anything alluding to harm in any way,
03:42shape, or form.
03:43Not so exciting, now is it?
03:44As for the gameplay, the map selection was unbearably lean with only a few maps to choose from.
03:49Story campaigns were locked behind paywalls, and the scoring system was just
03:54way too convoluted for a game about smashing cars.
04:06Despite an attempt to renew interest with a slight revamp, nobody was biting.
04:11With the game's social media not posting anything about the game since October 2022,
04:16Destruction All-Stars has quickly faded into obscurity,
04:20and will only ever be remembered as a stain on the PS5.
04:24If it ever is remembered to begin with.
04:34Motor Toon Grand Prix
04:44Before Gran Turismo, Polyphony Digital worked on this arcade racer that was only ever released
04:50in Japan.
04:51North America did receive the sequel in 1996, but Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 was just the original
04:57game with better visuals.
04:58While we can forgive this being Polyphony's first game, it was one of the roughest racing
05:03games thrown together even for its time.
05:06The cartoon aesthetic was nice and all, but the power-up system was basic and sometimes
05:11unexplainable.
05:12The level design was a bit haphazard, and the replay value was basically non-existent.
05:21After the two games, Polyphony would go on to create the Gran Turismo series,
05:26and neither they, nor Sony, have shown any interest in resurrecting Motor Toon,
05:31let alone preserve the short-lived series.
05:40Lair
05:50Though Sony may not believe it, there is appeal in a video game that lets you fly your own dragon
05:55and engage in fantastical warfare. Lair looked like that fantasy could come true, but Sony
06:00themselves ruined any chances the game had. Developer Factor 5 already had a ton of trouble
06:06putting the game together before Sony came in and told them that they needed to incorporate the
06:11motion-based 6-axis controls of the DualShock 3. Because⦠reasons.
06:17They're flying in formation! Must be Ice Dragon!
06:21I'm on him, Stro!
06:24What resulted was a fantasy game that felt horrible to play,
06:27and ultimately put Factor 5 in a compromising position. After launch,
06:32Sony ceased working with Factor 5 due to the commercial and critical failure of the game,
06:36the studio never recovered, and eventually, Factor 5 closed its doors in 2011.
06:41I can't keep track of the dragons! They're everywhere!
06:45Less talk, more killing, burners!
06:49Erika
06:49This is about my father.
06:53Your father's case was never solved. I'm pretty sure there's a connection.
06:58In their post-Singstar life, London Studio was not known for much else until 2019 when they put out
07:05Blood & Truth for PlayStation VR. However, this was not the studio's final game. Roughly three months
07:11later, interactive movie game Erika released on PlayStation 4. London Studio had co-developed the
07:16game with another studio known as Flavorworks, while Sony Interactive Entertainment published it
07:21themselves on PS4. Erika made no waves in the press as review scores came back lukewarm and underwhelming.
07:38Sony themselves have never said a word about the game in general outside of maybe a social media
07:44post or two, though we recommend you check it out for yourselves if you're itching for something new
07:48in this genre. You're dangerous. More dangerous than you know.
07:54You took Kirstie. You kept her here to control her father, the Chief Inspector.
08:02Kill strain!
08:10While many voice their disdain for Sony pushing for live service games, almost none will remember
08:16the early attempts during the PS4 years. Kill strain was among the first and was arguably the most
08:22embarrassing on account of how cobbled together it seemed. With a PvP VE format, players were tasked
08:28with protecting their base while fighting the other team of players while also fighting off an AI team
08:34of mutants. Yeah, it was far too chaotic for a competitive shooter and it didn't take long for
08:48players to just drop it entirely. In April 2017, less than a year after it launched, Sony Europe
08:54announced that Kill strain would shut down in December 2017. Not one soul voiced their outrage over
09:01this and Sony will likely never bring this IP back ever again.
09:14MAG
09:14256 players. This is the full-scale war.
09:19At the time of its release, MAG was a revolution in online gaming. It was tough for most games to
09:25squeeze in a large amount of players unless you had monumental amounts of cash like World of Warcraft
09:30had. As for online shooters, most games were only throwing in 16 to maybe 24 players at a time. MAG
09:37threw a whopping 256 players into a single game for some truly explosive matches between 32 teams
09:45of 8 players. Unfortunately, it was not meant to last. Sony announced MAG's servers would close in
09:55January 2014. No reason was given as to why the decision was made, though one can probably assume
10:01Call of Duty kept drowning out competition like MAG with its annual releases, thus causing low player
10:07count. This would be one of the final attempts Sony would make in creating their own blockbuster FPS game
10:13before then-president Shuhei Yoshida and other Sony executives decided it was time to focus on what the
10:19publisher was good at. Narrative driven, single player games. Prepare yourself for the more rigorous
10:24battles ahead. Good luck.
10:28The Order 1886
10:31You forget Lord Chancellor.
10:35I'm as good as dead already.
10:40With the PlayStation 4 having exited its first year with great success, Sony was ready to get the hype
10:46rolling with the Order 1886. Folks were enamored with how realistic the game looked at the time,
10:51but how did it play? Well, not particularly great. The intense focus on making the game
10:58cinematic often got in the way of players nailing shots, and the short length left many wondering
11:03what they were even getting hyped for in the first place with such an unfinished story.
11:17The Order 1886 wound up being widely regarded as one of the biggest disappointments in 2015. While
11:23developer Ready at Dawn was ready to start working on a sequel, like the ending implied, Sony was less
11:29than satisfied and moved on without them. To this day, The Order 1886 remains an unfinished story,
11:35forever left to be nothing more than that one game Astro Bot likes to reference every now and again.
11:51And lastly, Blasto.
11:54Blasto, Uranus is in big trouble.
11:56What did I do this time?
11:58This is no time for jokes.
11:59Of any IP Sony has ever introduced, no game has ever been ignored so explicitly often as Blasto.
12:07This was a PS1 third-person shooter developed by Sony's internal staff and featured comedian
12:13Phil Hartman as the voice of the titular protagonist. Reviews were not kind, to say the least,
12:19and only die-hard PS1 players gave it the time of day, few singing any kind of praise about it.
12:31And Sony has said nothing about the game since its release. There has never been a remake,
12:35no remaster, not any re-release of any kind, nor something as small as an easter egg in a bigger
12:41IP. Blasto has been rotting away in the PlayStation catacombs, and despite the rise of third-person
12:47shooters in recent years, Sony seems to have no interest in reintroducing the heroic spaceman.
12:53RIP and peace, Blasto.
