00:13welcome to mojo plays and today we are looking at playstation's lowest moments from console
00:17releases to bad customer relations these are the 20 biggest playstation fails of the century
00:22let's do it before we continue we publish content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:28the bell to get notified of our latest videos the playstation classic
00:36classic consoles were a proven success and nintendo's nes and snes classic editions inspired
00:42sony to follow suit assuming that the fans would welcome a compact library of classic ps1 games
00:47unfortunately the effort put into the playstation classic was about the same effort i used this
00:51morning on a full bladder piss i can't believe i wrote that even before launch the system was
00:56criticized for its underwhelming game selection think of your top three ps1 games and you'd be
01:01lucky if one of them is on the classic system but once released the issues ran deeper an awkward user
01:06interface poor emulation and image quality and a steep 100 price tag yuck psp go
01:20remember how good the psp was remember the 2009 model the psp go i bet you haven't thought about
01:26it once since 2009 especially as it was discontinued in under two years with the psp nearing the end of
01:32its life cycle releasing a new model made beyond zero sense the situation was made worse by the removal
01:37of the umd drive the disk drive preventing users from borrowing physical games or buying them at retail
01:42to make matters worse many previously announced titles were quietly cancelled leaving the psp go
01:47with no purpose fumbled live service initiative i'm here today to share with you how sony is moving
01:56people forward sony's ambitious live service push initially promising 12 titles by april 2026 has largely
02:03fallen apart naughty dog scrapped its standalone last of us multiplayer game sony london shut down along
02:08with its fantasy rpg and then there's concord sweet sweet concord the only real success so far
02:14has been hell divers 2 and that's thanks more to arrowhead game studios than sony itself with fair
02:19games still on the way it's clear sony isn't ready to give up even though it probably should
02:31uh genji 2 is an ashen game which is based on japanese history
02:37to me the ps3 was one of the most underappreciated consoles of all time
02:41to others it was the most underwhelming one of the most infamous reasons the ps3 was initially
02:46eye-rolled came from e3's 2006 presentation of genji during the demo producer bill rich
02:52described the game as based on famous battles that actually took place in japan only for the next
02:57scene to feature the now legendary giant enemy crab he went on to tout features like attacking weak
03:02points for massive damage and weapon changes as groundbreaking despite them being anything but new
03:07early meme fodder early playstation fail killed with one blow but uh you'll be able to enjoy the full
03:13full version at our e3 booth state of play 2019
03:20hey everyone it's time for another state of play in 2019 playstation made the decision to not
03:25participate in e3 for the first time in its existence instead they started their own showcase
03:29presentation called state of play which proved to be incredibly underwhelming in its first year
03:34lackluster content poor pacing and underwhelming announcements made an experience that would
03:39have playstation regretting their choice to show off at their own dedicated presentation the
03:43presentation liked major reveals and its robotic voiceover uninspired format and absence of
03:48personality made it feel more like a corporate slideshow than a fan focused event we can't wait to
03:54play it the wonderfully wacky and whimsical world of what tom comes to ps4 this december playstation vr 2
04:08while the playstation portal has seen notable success the same can't be said for playstation vr 2
04:13which has struggled to generate similar excitement vr gaming overall hasn't gained the momentum many
04:19hoped for and despite promising titles like skydance's behemoth and metro awakening the slowing
04:24stream of new releases particularly from sony's own studio has been disappointing is console vr gaming
04:29the future of vr gaming probably not is psvr 2 the future of vr gaming absolutely not
04:40ps5 pro price
04:45mid-generation console upgrades are nothing new for sony so rumors of a ps5 pro didn't come as much of
04:51a shock even if some developers reportedly felt it was unnecessary sony's eventual reveal was rather dull
04:56barely highlighting the console's more meaningful improvements then came the kicker a 700 price tag
05:02with no disk drive or vertical stand included while the console itself was solid the steep price sparked
05:08immediate backlash and internet mockery which is a fate worse than death playstation spectral super
05:13resolution today i'd like to do a deep dive into the technology behind our latest console playstation 5 pro
05:19psr is an ai driven upscaling technology introduced in the ps5 pro from a technical standpoint playstation
05:26spectral super resolution is impressive unfortunately it's already causing image quality issues in
05:31several games star wars jedi survivor and alan wake 2 are still waiting on patches silent hill 2 remake
05:37appears to have dropped it in favor of tsr and avatar frontiers of pandora will include an option to
05:42disable it while the tech performs adequately in some titles its rocky rollout and inconsistent results
05:48make for a less than ideal debut also ai is always going to make people a little uneasy as it
05:53probably should
05:53the work isn't exclusively ml the neural networks tend to be preceded by conventional processing
05:58and followed by some as well it's the piece in the middle that's the neural network shovelware and ai
06:04slop on psn ai generated games are single-handedly going to ruin modern gaming ai generated slop and
06:12shovelware on the playstation network harm the platform's overall quality and user experience these
06:17low effort mass-produced titles flood the store burying legitimate indie games and making it harder for
06:23players to discover worthwhile content often created quickly to exploit trophy hunters or monetization
06:28loopholes they clog search results and undermine consumer trust the lack of curation also reflects
06:34poorly on sony suggesting quantity over quality as more of these games appear they dilute the value of
06:40the platform waste players time and make the psn storefront feel cluttered chaotic and less like a premium
06:45gaming destination with an online only version of their console they couldn't be making it harder to enjoy
06:50the experience the playstation home
07:00playstation home was an early attempt at a virtual social hub serving as a precursor to sony's later
07:05push into vr gaming imagine a more interactive version of facebook where players could meet up
07:10and virtually attend playstation events the concept had promise but sony jumped the gun by announcing it
07:15before it was truly ready once released users quickly criticized the lack of meaningful activities and
07:20content despite its ambitious goals playstation home never moved beyond its beta phase and is now
07:25remembered as a flawed experiment it was the metaverse for an audience that always hated the idea of a metaverse
07:42closing sony japan studio
07:49gravity rush bloodborne siren tokyo jungle demon souls astro's playroom japan studio was behind some of
07:57sony's most creative and beloved titles when the studio was shut down in 2021 it triggered widespread
08:02disappointment and raised serious questions about sony's dedication to first party innovation while
08:08team asobi emerged from the closure and delivered astrobot the vast number of high quality ips now left
08:13dormant is pretty disheartening for many fans it feels like a failing shop firing their best staff member
08:25the playstation vita the playstation vita inspires new ways to game the ps vita is the first console
08:33that comes to mind when i think of failed consoles and it's not even that bad it was just unfortunate
08:38that sony's handhelds were always in nintendo's shadow from its launch sales were sluggish and never
08:43gained real momentum a lack of must-have exclusives and competition from increasingly capable smartphones
08:49undercut its appeal over time support dwindled with most of its key titles eventually ported to the ps4
08:55game development slowed to a halt by the mid-2010s and sony quietly discontinued the system in march
09:012019 unlike the wii u which paved the way for the switch the vita seems to have no successor on
09:07the
09:07horizon leaving it as a stain rather than a step in the right direction continually updating leaderboards
09:14allow you to post your top scores and keep an eye on the competition mandatory psn linking for single
09:22player pc games
09:28hell divers 2 was soaring in popularity when a controversy emerged pc players were informed they'd
09:34need to link a psn account on steam hell divers 2 steam rating plummeted to mostly negative and the game
09:41was even pulled from sale in dozens of regions sony eventually reversed the decision seemingly learning
09:46its lesson but that hope was short-lived despite ghost of tsushima director's cut only requiring psn
09:52for its online mode sony imposed mandatory account linking for single player titles like god of war
09:56ragnarok and until dawn remake recycling the same unconvincing security excuse we understand failing and
10:03learning but failing and almost learning and then failing again is not ideal you're a good boy
10:10a brave boy
10:15fast and strong lack of ps5 upgrades yarnam is the home of blood ministration you need only unravel its
10:24mystery whether or not sony ever releases a bloodborne remake remaster or sequel is neither here nor there
10:30the fact that it still lacks a proper ps5 upgrade is genuinely baffling while many games both first
10:36party titles like gran turismo sport and drive club and third party hits like red dead redemption 2 and
10:40the batman arkham trilogy have yet to receive upgrades bloodborne stands out due to its immense fan
10:45demand even a simple 60 fps patch would be welcomed sorry i hate to harp on about bloodborne in particular
10:51but if i take the lid off this entry i'll never stop talking more ps5 upgrades please
11:00the ps5 pre-order debacle who could forget the ps5 pre-order fiasco sony launched a sign-up page to
11:14notify customers ahead of time promising not to drop pre-orders without warning only to do exactly that
11:20right after a showcase the sudden release caused chaos among retailers and sparked a wave of scalping
11:25while sony assured fans that more stock was coming the global chip shortage and pandemic related
11:31delays made getting a ps5 nearly impossible for months things eventually improved but the way sony
11:36handled the pre-order rollout was just a mess confusing poorly communicated and deeply frustrating
11:42for fans this was a nightmare for gamers who'd been looking forward to their playstation upgrade
11:46from the day it was announced
11:53playstation move
11:58the wii had countless standout games but how many memorable ps move titles can you name
12:04zero would zero be an accurate answer sony's misstep was trying to ride the motion control trend
12:09without fully embracing what made it engaging unlike nintendo which designed games around motion sony
12:14treated ps move as an afterthought resulting in games that also felt like an afterthought while
12:19microsoft connect had its ups and downs ps move struggled even more due to its clunky implementation
12:24and lack of compelling software as a watered down wii alternative it works as anything beyond that it
12:30doesn't the six axis design and i'm just looking forward to that experience and i know that it's going
12:35to come from ps3 playstation 3 is the future of gaming exactly it's going to be like taking over the
12:40whole world
12:43in an attempt to make a bold change sony initially scrapped the dual shock in favor of the six axis
12:49controller unfortunately its prototype boomerang design drew heavy criticism but the real misstep
12:54was the absence of a rumble sony dismissed the feature as last generation insisting the six axis
12:59didn't need it much to the frustration of players particularly fps fans who valued vibration for immersion
13:05the backlash was swift and the controller was widely panned thankfully sony reversed course with the
13:10release of the dual shock 3 but the six axis remains a memorable sleep paralysis demon for many
13:15players that consumers will expect from true next generation and to date we have cumulatively shipped
13:21more than 10 000 development systems to 208 companies in 11 countries the largest number ever for a
13:29playstation format ps3's botched launch
13:37after the massive success of both playstation 1 and 2 sony computer entertainment officially
13:43announced the groundbreaking playstation 3 at the electronic entertainment expo of 2005.
13:49nothing sets you up for failure more than having the competition beat you to the market by a full year
13:53and by the time the ps3 launched gamers had already experienced what a seventh generation hd console could
13:58offer with the xbox 360. this head start gave microsoft a major sales advantage sony's decision
14:04to abandon the familiar ps2 branding in favor of a new identity complete with a spider-man 3 style logo
14:10failed to resonate and quickly faded however the biggest misstep was the steep 600 price tag
14:15with few compelling exclusives at launch and many key titles also available on the more affordable
14:21xbox 360 it was a rough start for the ps3 also the baby commercial
14:39concord get those bounty cards that's the only way to win in a staggering financial blunder sony sunk
14:47400 million dollars into their project concord 200 million dollars to acquire firewalk studios
14:52and another 200 million to push out a generic pvp hero shooter interest was so low that the game
14:58was pulled from sale and its servers shut down less than two weeks after launch two weeks firewalk
15:03studios was closed by october 2024 shockingly sony had internally hyped concord as the next star wars
15:09a claim that now seems crazy out of touch sony might as well tell warner brothers to step aside
15:14because concord has become the most infamous gaming flop since atari's et
15:26playstation network hack
15:30while microsoft and nintendo have had their share of major missteps few are as infamous as the 2011
15:35sony psn hack although the breach occurred between april 17 and 19 the network went down on april 20 and
15:42sony didn't publicly confirm the severity until april 26th that's when the company revealed that
15:48personal data from up to 77 million users may have been compromised the delayed disclosure sparked
15:54widespread outrage with many criticizing sony for withholding critical information for nearly a week
15:59the fallout was severe and the psn remained offline for a staggering 23 days and as far as failures go
16:05this one was pretty huge did you enjoy this video check out these other clips from mojo plays and be
