00:13With the updates to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch 2,
00:18we've gotten a ton of voice memories in each game through the Zelda Notes app.
00:23Little bits of lore and world building that have added more flavor to this version of Hyrule.
00:28Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're going over the 10 most interesting voice memories we've managed to find in
00:35these new editions.
00:43But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long.
00:47So be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:52Memories with Father
00:54Since Zelda's father died in the Calamity, Breath of the Wild doesn't spend much time on their relationship.
01:00His spirit shows signs of deep regret at how he treated her,
01:04which we see in a key flashback where he criticizes her for not having awakened her sealing power.
01:10This makes Memories with Father, found on Mount Hylia in the new edition, quite interesting.
01:15Zelda speaks of being here with her father, where he treated her more kindly.
01:20Speaking of learning to cook, paraglide, and remembering him, wrapping her in a warm doublet.
01:27At the castle, we are king and princess, but while here, we were father and daughter.
01:32In this same location in Tears of the Kingdom, you'll find the voice memory A King's Rest,
01:37where Zelda's grief catches in her throat upon visiting her father's grave.
01:41It's a small, but appreciated way to make their relationship a bit warmer than what we originally saw.
01:48That he will rest here, forever looking out over Hyrule.
01:52Mother, father, though the land is still littered with ruins, I promise you that I will restore it.
01:59Concerning the fossils
02:01In Breath of the Wild, the Leviathan bones were considered by many to be nods to specific characters from the
02:07series.
02:08Leviath from Skyward Sword, Oshus from Phantom Hourglass, and the windfish in Link's Awakening.
02:15But in Tears of the Kingdom, more massive skeletons were found in the depths, bringing more questions.
02:21Now, near the Leviathan skeleton in the Gerudo Desert, you'll find a voice memory from Zelda called Concerning the Fossils,
02:28which may clear things up a bit.
02:30She speaks of legends claiming that Hyrule was once at the bottom of a vast ocean.
02:35But since there are so few on the surface, she theorizes about marine life venturing deeper to the depths.
02:43Except, it seems to me that there are too few fossils.
02:47Maybe sea life found roots even deeper.
02:50Maybe through chasms like the one near Beraida Lookout.
02:52A voice memory from Koga, Great Skeletons of the Depths, at the Gerudo Dark Skeleton, supports this theory,
03:00claiming that ancient creatures could easily venture below the surface via chasms.
03:05The surface and the depths are connected?
03:08Then that means the creatures living up above could come down here.
03:12These musings, of course, bring Wind Waker and its great sea to mind.
03:17Spring of Power.
03:18Throughout the series, Ganondorf is the typical wielder of the Triforce of Power.
03:23And in Breath of the Wild, set long after the rest of the series,
03:28we learn that it had some interesting consequences for Din, goddess of power, and one of Hyrule's creators.
03:34In the voice memory Spring of Power, found at the location of the same name,
03:39Zelda tells us that faith in Din has waned throughout history due to power being seen as a symbol of
03:45the Demon King.
03:46Once she was one of the three goddesses, alongside courage and wisdom.
03:50But it is said that faith in her dimmed due to power being seen as a symbol of the Demon
03:55King.
03:55This ties in with another memory, broken boars, in the Fenra woods near the Zonai ruins.
04:01Here we see some ancient Zonai worship certain animals, thought to represent the three pieces of the Triforce.
04:08Dragons for courage, owls for wisdom, and boars for power.
04:13However, according to Zelda, boars eventually became seen as evil due to Ganon taking the form of one across the
04:20series,
04:20with statues in the surrounding area showing considerable damage.
04:24I remember reading in literature that the Demon King took the form of a boar,
04:28and that, upon learning this, people came to regard them as evil.
04:31It's an interesting aspect that the series hasn't really touched on before,
04:35that Ganondorf's actions would reflect badly on one of the golden goddesses.
04:40Faith in the Lightning Dragon.
04:42The most interesting voice memories in Tears of the Kingdom come from Zelda.
04:47But, Rauru and Koga still have some noteworthy information to give.
04:51On the draconic-shaped Thunderhead Isles, you can find Faith in the Lightning Dragon,
04:57where Rauru tells us that they were created by the Zonai as a lightning rod to prevent lightning from striking
05:03elsewhere.
05:04However, he also tells us that the location's creation resulted in people on the surface believing the Lightning Dragon to
05:11be a divine protector.
05:13In actuality, it is a lightning rod the Zonai constructed to prevent lightning strikes.
05:18Perhaps this is how belief in the Lightning Dragon began.
05:20Of course, the Thunderhead Isles sit high above the Farron region,
05:25which the Lightning Dragon Feroz flies through,
05:28and where the Spring of Courage, in honor of the goddess Feroor, is found.
05:33This memory creates some captivating threads, allowing us to further dissect the history of the world.
05:38And Rauru's contemplation on belief stemming from unrelated coincidence is a small, but impactful sentiment.
05:46Divine punishment.
05:47In Breath of the Wild, Link could meet the horned statue by Hateno Village,
05:52who allowed him to trade life for stamina, and vice versa, but for a price.
05:57Once a powerful deity, he was turned to stone by the goddess Hylia, who didn't look kindly on his deals.
06:04The statue appears again in Tears of the Kingdom,
06:06this time in a tunnel beneath Lookout Landing.
06:09However, if you go back to Hateno Village in the new edition,
06:13to the statue's previous location,
06:15you'll find a voice memory where Zelda details her own encounter with it.
06:20Just as it started to suck the life from her,
06:22a bolt of lightning struck it, knocking the statue into nearby water.
06:26But just as suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the statue, toppling it into the water.
06:32That feeling.
06:33I do not think the statue had good intentions.
06:36With every Zelda being a reincarnation of the original in Skyward Sword,
06:41herself the mortal reincarnation of Hylia,
06:44this reaction from the goddess towards a deity she once dealt with is undeniably great.
06:49It also ties in with dialogue from the horned statue in Tears of the Kingdom.
06:54He states he was moved by Hylia from Hateno Village to a pond before ending up in the underground tunnel.
07:02In the depths, players can find Bargainer statues,
07:06massive stone entities that will grant Link rewards in exchange for Poes,
07:11the souls of the dead found all over the area.
07:14While they're shrouded in mystery, the monstrous faces on their backs don't instill high hopes that their intentions are good.
07:21A voice memory from Koga, a stone giant at the Cliff Bargainer statue, confirms that we should be wary of
07:28them.
07:28While confirming that they didn't come from the Zonai, he also theorizes that they were turned to stone by Hylia,
07:34who perhaps didn't like how they dealt with souls as currency.
07:38Maybe the goddess did it because you did something bad.
07:41Well, bad by her standards.
07:44And if she didn't like you, I bet we would have gotten along.
07:48And as we saw with the horned statue, Hylia has turned her enemies to stone before.
07:53Regardless, if you want to find certain armor or replace legendary weapons after they break,
07:59Link will have to get his hands dirty.
08:01Just don't let Zelda find out about them.
08:04Unwavering Devotion
08:05There are several voice memories from Breath of the Wild that connect to others in Tears of the Kingdom,
08:11creating miniature stories to flesh out the world.
08:14One of my favorites is Unwavering Devotion, found at the Rito Stable just outside Rito Village.
08:21Through Zelda, we learn that this stable has the oldest history of all of them,
08:25that the owner would never sell no matter the price,
08:28and that she believes his passion would be carried on by his future family.
08:33The proprietor was proud to tell me that of all of them, Rito Stable boasts the oldest history.
08:39He also shared that no matter what price was offered, he would never sell it.
08:43Well, come back to this spot in Tears of the Kingdom,
08:46and the owner's descendant actually did have to sell it.
08:49It now operates as the Lucky Clover Gazette.
08:52Another voice memory, Gally's Worries, explains that the owner was struggling to keep it open.
08:57I spoke with Gally at Rito's stable, who seems worried about whether he can keep the stable open,
09:03though it sounds like he's had an offer to sell it to a newspaper of all things.
09:07And this was before Ganondorf's blizzard caused him to close completely.
09:11Gally can still be found here, though without much to do.
09:15The original owner's refusal to sell adds a quiet sadness to the stable and Gally's story.
09:21The Shadow People.
09:22In Eldon Canyon, at the southeastern base of Death Mountain, you can find the Shadow Hamlet Ruins,
09:28a small, destroyed village where there's little to do.
09:32However, a voice memory from Zelda in the new version of Breath of the Wild reveals
09:36even the most ordinary locations can have interesting history.
09:40Apparently, this was home to people who preferred to be disconnected,
09:44whose seclusion made the village unknown to most others.
09:48They even turned Zelda away when she came to warn them about the calamity.
09:52Many in Hyrule do not even know this place exists.
09:55I at least knew the name, but I had no idea it would be like this.
09:59The village may have seen its downfall during the apocalyptic event, but no one knows for sure.
10:05In the Lost Hamlet memory for Tears of the Kingdom,
10:08Zelda wonders if she could have tried harder to get them to listen to her,
10:12while stating that what exactly happened to the villagers is unknown.
10:15This little mystery takes a small, seemingly unimportant spot of the map and gives it a great new layer.
10:22I wonder if this place would be more than ruins if I had tried harder to get them to listen.
10:27In a puff of smoke.
10:29Following the release of Tears of the Kingdom,
10:31many quickly picked up on the fact that most Sheikah technology seen in Breath of the Wild was now gone,
10:37and there was no explanation for it.
10:40Remnants remained.
10:41A lone guardian sits on top of the ancient Hateno tech lab,
10:45and pieces of them were seemingly used in the construction of the Skyview Towers.
10:50But as for the rest of the guardians, the shrines, and the divine beasts, they simply vanished.
10:56This isn't far from the truth, actually.
10:59A voice memory from Zelda by the lab reveals that the Sheikah tech housed there turned to dust
11:05after the Calamity was defeated, implying that the same happened elsewhere,
11:09and that any artifacts left over were merely replicas.
11:13It seems that when the Calamity was defeated,
11:16all of the ancient relics here at the Hateno ancient tech lab turned to dust and disappeared.
11:21All that remains are replicas of the originals,
11:24and with those gone, these are even more valuable.
11:26It isn't exactly a satisfying answer, since it brings up more questions,
11:31but it is an answer, at least.
11:34Satori Mountain's Cherry Blossoms
11:36The cherry blossom tree on Satori Mountain is one of the most beautiful locations in Breath of the Wild,
11:43especially if you visit when Satori, the location's guardian spirit, is present.
11:48Zelda's voice memory here speaks of the only two cherry blossom trees in the kingdom,
11:52worshipped for their ability to purge evil spirits, and referred to as the father and mother tree.
11:58There are only two cherry blossom trees in Hyrule.
12:02They have been referred to as the father tree and mother tree.
12:05I imagine this is because the cherry blossom trees are sometimes worshipped
12:09for their supposed ability to purge evil spirits.
12:13She also claims that Satori was sent there by the father tree to protect the mother tree.
12:18The only other tree with cherry blossoms is the Great Deku Tree, found in the Korok Forest.
12:24This creates a fascinating new connection between these locations,
12:28and things get deeper in Tears of the Kingdom.
12:31With several new cherry blossom trees appearing across Hyrule,
12:34Zelda then wonders if they're appearing because the Calamity was defeated,
12:38or if it's in preparation for something worse.
12:41However, it is said that cherry blossoms can purify evil.
12:45Does that mean more are appearing because the Calamity has disappeared,
12:49or are they appearing in preparation for some new threat?
12:53Obviously, it's the latter.
12:55Regardless, these memories add something new to the lore of the Great Deku Tree,
12:59the mysterious Satori,
13:01and their roles in strengthening the world to combat the Demon King.
13:11What are some of the more interesting things you've learned from the new voice memories?
13:16Share your findings with us in the comments.
