00:08welcome to mojo plays and today we're going over our 10 reasons for why we chose mind's eye as the
00:17worst game of 2025 so far come on let's get a drink huh i'm buying all the way from the
00:26fridge
00:26before we begin we publish new videos all week long so be sure to subscribe to mojo plays and
00:31ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos the story welcome to red rock man is it
00:40always this hot you'll get used to it sort of not really during our time with mind's eye the story
00:46of jacob diaz was just completely unremarkable and uninteresting through and through his whole story
00:52is that he was a part of some government program that implanted him with cybernetics in his neck
00:58that turned out to be some kind of alien artifact however director and co-writer leslie benzes and
01:04his team of seven other writers didn't seem to know what to do with this story exposition is forced into
01:10very awkward times yet nothing is ever truly explained he developed a series of prototypes
01:17meant to fuse an organic host with ai okay no examples of this prototypes have been seen until
01:24now just when jacob looks like he's about to get some scrap of an answer there's a mysterious
01:30conspiracy trying to cover up the mysterious conspiracy to the mysterious conspiracy it's
01:35conspiracy-ception if that makes any sense this sort of storytelling winds up making mind's eye
01:41annoyingly vague and ultimately uninteresting by the time you find the underground alien
01:56facility
01:57characters what are you doing here come with me whether you're playing the main story or what
02:05few side missions there are mind's eye quickly shows that there is not a single character to like
02:10jacob is a one-note character that can only speak in disturbed grunts and genuine confusion while his
02:16superior carrie rigby seems to always be barking orders at him no matter how far away he walks or
02:23drives seriously this woman has mastered the skill of suddenly appearing like she's batman every other
02:30character you'll come across either speaks way too vaguely about jacob's alien neck chip or is killed
02:36off minutes after jacob meets them there is simply no time to invest in anybody and the two that we
02:42get
02:42to see the most are flatter than flat stanley come on man i can't do this right now they have
02:48access to
02:49our cameras they'll see everything i'll be slaughtered they shortcuts in design not a problem let me know
02:56when it's done we're not quite sure how long it took for build a rocket boy to develop mind's eye
03:02not to
03:03make jabs but the state of the game very clearly indicates that this was a rushed job missions that
03:08involve tracking characters with a drone feel like they were included simply to extend the game's
03:13length because you know there's not really anything interesting going on aside from follow the thing
03:19visually speaking though certain vehicles seem to be lacking the proper animations you would expect
03:24from moving vehicles which becomes more obvious once you turn off motion blur combine all of that with
03:30the mundane gunplay in simplistic shooting gallery style level design and what you have is a game that
03:37could have been cobbled together in a couple of short years really did all of the effort go into just
03:43cut scenes and story and character animation clean this place don't leave a trace although speaking of
03:51which the gunplay i'm trusting you here don't make me regret it there is truly nothing noteworthy or
04:01challenging about mind's eye's combat for much of the game you can snipe enemies with the pistol you get
04:07at the very start of the campaign and no it does not require much effort to do that as some
04:12enemies
04:13are too stupid to properly get behind cover and will sometimes opt to just stand out in the open
04:19ammo pickups on the other hand seem meaningless as our pistol never ran out of bullets during our time
04:25with the game even if you didn't pick up ammo our stock never went above or below 15 bullets well
04:32do the
04:32weapons at least feel good to use i mean i guess they look and sound like guns and that's really
04:39as
04:40positive as i can put it they are guns
04:50the buggy performance by now you have probably heard about the litany of technical problems mind's eye is
04:56plagued with and much to our dismay they are absolutely among the biggest issues with the game
05:01as we mentioned a second ago there were times where enemies stood out in the open even while we were
05:07shooting at them but the issues got more severe than that just driving to our next destination would
05:13be a hassle as the frame rate would dip to around 10 frames per second sometimes even less than that
05:19keep in mind that this is a game running on playstation 5 a console with a lot of power that
05:24has also seen
05:25a ton of problems between games and the hardware itself unreal engine 5 the engine used to develop
05:31mind's eye has also reportedly been difficult to work with as stated by other developers over the
05:36years no matter where you want to point the finger on who's to blame for the poor optimization here
05:42mind's eye runs horribly and plays horribly plain and simple lack of proper pathing
05:50somehow i don't think i should tell anyone about this one issue we came across a few times was the
05:56waypoint system for the few instances where missions wanted us to go off-road mind's eye made no clear
06:02indication of where exactly we needed to go the very first mission you receive even requires you to go
06:08to a location hidden behind a rocky pathway however the waypoint system will not direct you to where you
06:14need to go exactly and will instead just show the waypoint on the perimeter of your mini map and
06:19that brings us to the other half of the pathing problem there is no actual full-scale map in mind's
06:25eye all you have is this little mini map in the top left corner no official map that you can
06:31zoom and
06:32scroll around in so if you veer off the path a tiny bit too far you will instantly fail the
06:38mission
06:38and be sent back to your last checkpoint until you figure out where you need to go let me know
06:43when it's
06:44done whoa yeah these things are faster than you think the lack of content after playing a few
06:53missions mind's eye will introduce its user-generated content portion of the game usually in these kinds
06:59of games the developers will throw in their own levels to show off the possibilities that players
07:04can create well roughly half of the side missions that are featured are just races the rest are a few
07:11missions centered on shooting and a couple focused on placing robots down before watching the scenario
07:16play out why these are not just traditional side missions you can find in the world is beyond us
07:21why most of them are races is also confusing because there's this isn't a racing game really
07:28but if ugc was supposed to be a selling point for mind's eye why is there nothing truly interesting in
07:34the game's mechanics or physics or even assets to encourage players to make missions for each other
07:40this all leads into our next problem with the game which is the reliance on ugc so that's how they
07:47got
07:48the city cop by program mind's eye truly has nothing interesting going on for itself so why place an
07:54emphasis on user-generated content why make it a part of the game when it's just basic shooting and
07:59driving we ask this because there were plenty of games during the ps3 and xbox 360 days that focused
08:05on sandbox gameplay many of which were partially or entirely focused on user-generated content
08:11infamous 2 little big planet disney infinity halo with its forge mode mod nation racers all games with
08:19a deep focus on players creating unique content for each other by giving them fun tools for story
08:25combat level design puzzles and even shooting and racing if the game supported that infamous 2
08:31centered its ugc around cole's awesome powers and the crazy enemies you could fight enough room to give
08:37players some ideas little big planet and mod nation racers gave players a ton of objects between
08:42buildings power-ups and terrain morphing to create living environments and chaotic race courses
08:48disney infinity gave you a buffet of unique structures vehicles walls tools and more
08:55to create entire games within the game
09:05but mind's eye there is simply nothing here in the assets to spark imagination within the player
09:12just about anything that is made here is going to wind up looking as generic as mind's eye itself
09:17you're right
09:21i i didn't think this thing through
09:25i'm sorry
09:26the price for all of the problems mind's eye has going for itself it is absolutely astonishing
09:32that build a rocket boy and publisher io interactive thought they could charge 60 dollars for this game
09:39we're placing an emphasis on this because in 2025 video game companies are looking for excuses to drive up prices
09:45for games even more and yet many video game companies in support of that push
09:50are still belting out low quality products like mind's eye that do not justify the price hike
09:56it's even more damning when you look at more polished games on say the indie market
10:00that are only asking for a fraction of that price
10:03let me ask you this which do you want to buy a 60 dollar broken game like mind's eye
10:09or a game that is 20 to 30 dollars like star vaders that actually functions and is fun to play
10:15or i'll do you one better how about five dollars for nubby's number factory
10:21i can personally vouch for both of these games
10:24and i guarantee you that you'll have more fun with either of them
10:28and play them a lot longer than you will with mind's eye
10:32and lastly one of the worst things about mind's eye
10:35is leslie benzie's post-launch behavior
10:39you good?
10:40yeah
10:41thought they gave you the all clear
10:43they did
10:44what's perhaps the most egregious part about mind's eye's life cycle
10:48is not just the game's problems in itself
10:51but the mindset of creator, director, and co-writer leslie benzie's
10:57who is also the co-ceo of build a rocket boy
11:00roughly a month after launch
11:02sources speaking to ign reported that benzie's blamed mind's eye's performance
11:06on quote internal and external saboteurs end quote
11:11a sentiment that was similarly expressed by co-ceo mark gerhard
11:15after the game received negative press coverage back in april 2025
11:19neither gerhard nor benzie's will seem to identify who the saboteurs are
11:25that are quote paying people to trash the game in the studio end quote
11:29for full disclosure
11:30mojo plays was not invited to preview mind's eye at all
11:34we received no communication from build a rocket boy
11:37nor io interactive about this game
11:40only a couple of us on the team were paying any attention to the game at all
11:44but nobody felt one way or the other about it
11:48i, ty, me, played it myself
11:52check my trophies on playstation if you don't believe me
11:55i keep my trophies open to the public at all times
11:58so you can see what i'm playing
11:59i played mind's eye
12:00and i can confidently say
12:02leslie
12:03that mind's eye
12:05truly is the worst game i've played all year
12:08for all of the reasons i have talked about
12:11and no amount of money is ever going to make me say
12:15or believe otherwise
12:22tell us have you played mind's eye for yourself
12:25hopefully not
12:26but let us know what you think down in the comments below
