00:05Former Army Chief Tanshri Muhammad Hafizuddin Jantan and his third wife,
00:10Salwani Anuar, alias Kamaruddin, will face their money laundering charges in a single,
00:15consolidated trial. Judge Azura Alwi made the decision after allowing a prosecution
00:21application to combine all 11 charges, filed across three separate courts, into one proceeding.
00:26The prosecution argued the cases should be heard together as they involved the same witnesses,
00:32the same facts, and the same underlying predicate offence, citing provisions under the Anti-Money
00:37Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act, as well as the Criminal
00:42Procedure Code. The defense did not object. 57-year-old Muhammad Hafizuddin faces six charges
00:49of receiving proceeds from illegal activities, totaling more than 2.2 million ringgit, deposited
00:55across multiple bank accounts in Kuala Lumpur and Ampang. His 27-year-old wife, Salwani,
01:01faces five charges involving smaller amounts, totaling approximately 82,000 ringgit, deposited
01:07into accounts in Kuala Lumpur and Kirti. The alleged offenses span a period between early 2024
01:13and late 2025. If convicted, both accused face up to 15 years in prison and fines of at least
01:20five times the value of the illegal proceeds, or 5 million ringgit, whichever is higher.
