17:03this stretch of the season is all about the development
17:05and the evaluation of this young group.
17:08Head coach Jordy Fernandez says some of the areas they're looking at
17:11is this team's defense and their aggressiveness,
17:13especially limiting fouls and keeping opponents off the free-throw line.
17:17The Nets have seen a big disparity at the line lately.
17:20And Jordy emphasized the groups need to take in ownership of that
17:22and having better defensive techniques.
17:25And then on the other end of the court,
17:26he wants to see the team be more decisive, strong with the ball,
17:29aggressive getting to the rim, and then controlling what they can control.
17:32Now, Nick Claxton told me during pregame that while some of it's part of the game,
17:35the team has to stay disciplined, cutting out the silly fouls,
17:38and not letting the whistle impact their focus.
17:40I also spoke to rookie Drake Powell,
17:42who sometimes draws to the toughest assignments,
17:44and he's like guarding top players from the challenges
17:47and sometimes a different whistle.
17:49But his emphasis is on showing his hands and staying disciplined.
17:52And offensively, Powell said he's been working closely
17:55with assistant coach Jay Fernandez,
17:56studying film and learning how to be more decisive,
17:59knowing when to attack, get downhill, and create opportunities.
