08:55It's actually just as grippy as the track,
08:58if not more so.
08:58They've actually used paint
08:59that has some substance to it.
09:02Yeah, absolutely.
09:03It's got a high-grip paint on it.
09:05But I think, Ted, if we look around here,
09:07what's interesting to me
09:08is the way this track is dried, right?
09:10Because if we get a band of rain
09:12which just comes and goes
09:13and the track dried,
09:14look at this.
09:14There's a crack here
09:15which shows
09:16it's been laid in sections almost.
09:20So this section out here
09:21has dried more quickly
09:23than this bit.
Estoy-Dreste,
09:46вновь Dann, вовремя поworldой, педерану и потом в гаражей.
09:50And then once it's cleared, there'll be a minus 10-minute notice period to come back out onto the grid
09:55and the race can potentially restart.
09:57If there's a thunderstorm once the race has started, everybody into the pit lane, stop into the garages, wait out
10:03the thunderstorm, and then 20-minute notice to the restart.
10:07Yeah, if there is a thunderstorm, especially with the lightning risk around here, there's a couple of things which will
10:13cause even bigger delays.
10:14For example, the marshals need to be brought into a protective area.
10:17These spectators will have to be moved into a safe area, so lightning could cause a much bigger delay.
10:22Hopefully, we won't get it. Hopefully, it will just be rain, and it'll be a wet race. We'll see.
10:26Well, we might get it, Simon.
10:30The bit of us wants us to get some rain, but look at it at the moment.
10:34Absolutely clear. When we arrived this morning, about three and a half hours ago, that was just bands of rain
10:40coming through, green, red, and yellow.
10:43So we'll keep an eye on that throughout the course of the afternoon, but as I said, we've still got
10:46about an hour and 45 minutes to go until lights out here in Miami.
10:51Now, I know it's a bank holiday weekend back in the UK. Many of you have been busy and out
10:55and about.
10:56Here's a chance for you to catch up with everything that's happened here.
11:00Well, we're back, everyone, and we've reached Miami, and there's a special treat for you all. Not one, but two
11:05races this weekend. We're ready for sprint qualifying.
11:08Lando Norris. Is it provisional pole for him? Yes, it is.
11:12Drives for the line. Can he do it?
11:14Well, let's see. Check the flag is out. It's front row for Kimi Antonelli.
11:18So Mercedes stay on the front row. But for the first time in 2026, it is Lando Norris.
11:25Well done, team. Of course, night and day better. So, thanks for the hard work.
11:33Disappointment then for Nico Hülkenberg. Big engine failure. And for him, it's lights out.
11:39And away we go. And this time, Charles Leclerc getting a better start against Kimi Antonelli.
11:44He's getting bogged down once again. Into the first corner. Lando Norris leads from Oscar Piastri.
11:49And there is Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton having a great old scrap.
11:5419 laps of a sprint race here. Lando Norris in what is sprint race 26. He's going to pick up.
12:01Sprint race victory number four. Lando Norris crosses the line. A very comfortable winner here.
12:07Happy to get it done for the team. A good start to the weekend, but now we have to do
12:10all over again.
12:11We've had the sprints. For the Miami Grand Prix, we need to go qualifying first.
12:18Verstappen crosses the line and puts a bit of daylight between him and the rest.
12:22Antonelli fastest from Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. Oscar Piastri is in P16.
12:29Three by two tenths of a second.
12:31And that is a smoking Audi.
12:34My brakes are on fire, man.
12:36Call the brakes.
12:37I'm trying.
12:37He's out with Pérez, Bottas, Stroll, Alonso and Arvid Lindblad at racing balls.
12:43Trees just swaying a bit here. The wind has definitely picked up.
12:49Pulse it for the last two years. Max Verstappen in Miami. And he's gone fastest by nearly a couple of
12:56tenths from Kimi Antonelli.
12:58So, Franco Colapinto has been knocked out of qualifying in Q2. Every race this season has made it through into
13:06Q3.
13:06Nicker Hulkenberg is P11. It's kind of his own, that one.
13:10Ahead of Liam Lawson and Oli Fairman. Sainz and Ocon and Albon, they are out.
13:14Verstappen was fastest. Who wants pole today? We'll find out next.
13:21Verstappen, who goes on to provisional pole by two one thousandths of a second.
13:27Charles Leclerc now takes provisional pole. It is up for grabs today.
13:33It is Kimi Antonelli on pole position for the third Grand Prix in a row.
13:39The championship leader has held on.
13:42Go on, man.
13:45Feels good, man. Feels good. Thank you.
13:52Okay, let's just refresh your memory of how things stand in the drivers.
13:56As we've talked about, Kimi Antonelli, the youngest ever driver to be leading the Formula One World Championship.
14:01He did drop to six, though, in the sprint after a penalty, five-second penalty for exceeding track limits.
14:07It means that the gap between himself and his teammate, who finished in fourth, is at seven now.
14:11Charles Leclerc open up to 12 points between himself and Lewis Hamilton.
14:15Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri obviously finishing in first and second, closing the gap on them.
14:21Rest of the top ten.
14:22Oliver, Pierre Gasly, Max Verstappen, who starts from the front row, furthest forward of the season for him in ninth.
14:28And Liam Lawson down in tenth.
14:31He's a casual, come on to that, but he was disqualified from qualifying because of a bargeboard discrepancy.
14:37There are still six to get off the mark in the form of Alex Albon, Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez, Fernando
14:43Alonso, and Lance Stroll, and Nico Hülkenberg still have that as well.
14:48Mercedes lead the way in the constructors by 45 points from Ferrari.
14:52McLaren, the big gainers of the weekend so far, but start from fourth and seventh.
14:56With Red Bull now above Haas, who have begun this season well.
15:01Okay, so here's how they line up then.
15:05Mercedes have taken every pole this season.
15:08As I mentioned, third consecutive Grand Prix pole for Kimi Antonelli, Max Verstappen, first front row start of 26.
15:14Leclerc, Norris, and Hamilton are all there at best starts of the new season.
15:20George Russell, though, dropping three and a half tenths in the last sector, but still ties his best ever start
15:25here.
15:25Oscar Piastri, that's his worst qualifying of the season.
15:28Franco Colopinto, we're going to hear from him in the next hour or so.
15:33At eight, tying his best ever start.
15:35In fact, it's the same starting positions for himself, Pierre Gasly, and Nico Hülkenberg as it was in the sprint.
15:41Liam Lawson, Oli Behrman tucked him behind there.
15:43But a disappointing weekend so far for Williams and season.
15:48Carlos Sainz was livid about things after practice and going into sprint qualifying.
15:53He starts from 13th.
15:55Alex Alvin is a teammate behind him from 15th.
16:00Last page of the grid, as I mentioned, Ezekad just starting from the pit lane.
16:05It's been a horrible weekend for Audi so far.
16:07Gabriel Bortoletto last on the grid.
16:10And they still yet to get out of Q1, have either of the Cadillac drivers or the Aston Martin drivers.
16:16But we understand that Aston Martin have at least sorted out the vibrations in their steering wheel.
16:20Right, let's get in to the pole sitter, Kimi Antonelli, swinging by the Skypad last night to talk to Karun
16:27Chandor.
16:29Kimi, fantastic pole position lap there.
16:32Let's talk about the final run of Q3.
16:35Turn one, we saw lots of people struggling with braking over the weekend.
16:38What was it like for you?
16:39Yeah, it was not easy.
16:40Obviously, there was a bit of big interaction on braking, so really easy to lock up.
16:45But also, the wind was a lot different compared to yesterday.
16:48So, a lot of tailwind today, so it was difficult to get it right.
16:52And then, obviously, also to position well the car out of one for the acceleration of two and three.
16:58Yeah.
16:58Second one, to be fair, today felt incredible.
17:01It looked incredible.
17:02It looked like the car was in a very good zone.
17:04You looked like you had the car just balanced in a beautiful way.
17:08Did it feel confidence-inspiring in there?
17:11Yeah, for sure.
17:11And definitely, this year has been a big improvement for me, high speed.
17:15Last year, I struggled quite a bit more, but this year, I feel much more comfortable and also to push
17:21the car and position it where I want to.
17:23And that's the thing that we were saying all weekend, Jensen and I were saying, you're confident to use this
17:27outside wide line, which a lot of other people are not.
17:31And I guess that's what you mean, right?
17:33You're able to hold it there?
17:34Yeah, for sure.
17:35And this corner was very difficult today because we had a lot of frost wind, so reaching the apex, we
17:41had a tail wind, so very difficult for the rear.
17:44But in this lap, I anticipated a little bit the line, and it helped to also get a good exit.
17:50Now, we saw yesterday you had a very different deployment to McLaren.
17:53Did you guys learn from what they did?
17:55Were you doing something different today based on that?
17:56Yeah, for sure.
17:57I mean, yesterday, we struggled a little bit to maximize the deployment, and McLaren seemed to be in a better
18:02place.
18:03And today, I think we did a much better job on that side, and also the deployment was a lot
18:08more consistent.
18:09So, into here, talk to me.
18:11Difficult with the tail wind, easy to lock.
18:14This corner, I didn't maximize it, to be fair.
18:16I was a bit slow all throughout.
18:17Okay.
18:17But then this section was a good one.
18:20I lose a little bit the rear on entry.
18:23Into the chicane?
18:24Yeah, I did.
18:25I did have very aggressive settings on this to help the rotation.
18:30But I was able to position the car well, to cut the curb well into 15, and then be well
18:37prepared for 16.
18:38I love how you give that little stab almost near the rear there.
18:41Yeah, I was trying to really, because we struggled a little bit this weekend to rotate the car, and I
18:47kind of forced a little bit the rotation to then be well prepared for 16 and the exit.
18:52Now, talk to me about the last corner.
18:53You've done most of the lap.
18:55Where are you at with your head for this corner?
18:57Yeah, I mean, we had the headwind into the braking, so I knew I could brake late.
19:01I brake very late.
19:02I went very deep, but still managed to rotate the car, and I gained a lot of time on entry,
19:08more than what I lost on exit, so it was a good game.
19:10I mean, fantastic job in qualifying.
19:12I have to ask, what about the staff for tomorrow?
19:15Have you understood what's happened in the sprint?
19:17Yeah, I mean, the procedure was good, so we just misread a little bit the grip.
19:23But first of all, let's see how the weather is going to be tomorrow.
19:27But I feel much more confident on procedure, and so we're trying to just find a better setting, and then
19:35hopefully we can get off the line well.
19:37All right.
19:37Congratulations.
19:38Well done.
19:38Thank you.
19:42Yeah, we'll talk more about Kimi Antonelli as we approach lights out, but first of all, let's hear from both
19:47of the McLaren drivers.
19:49Ando, P4 on the grid today.
19:51Performance in the sprint yesterday looked really strong, but how are you feeling looking ahead today, especially with that threat
19:57of rain?
19:59I'm feeling good.
20:02Excited.
20:02I guess we just have to wait and see what the weather's going to do today, you know?
20:05So it's been a good weekend so far.
20:08We're hoping today we can continue that, but let's just wait and see what the rain does.
20:13And Oscar, it was a bit of a mixed bag for you yesterday, but what have you learned overnight, and
20:18what are you taking into the race today?
20:21Yeah, a few things we could have done a bit better yesterday.
20:23I think our competition as well definitely did a better job of getting the most out of their cars.
20:28So we'll wait and see what we've got.
20:30It's going to be an interesting race one way or another.
20:32So, yeah, we'll be in it until the end.
20:35And it seems that the team has taken a step forward over the break since Japan.
20:39Is that how it is feeling?
20:40What is the momentum like within McLaren team?
20:43Yeah, I mean, it's early days.
20:45We've not even completed a weekend yet, right?
20:47So we've definitely taken steps forward.
20:49The team has done a very good job.
20:52But you can't really judge things on one weekend.
20:54So let's wait and see what we can do in Canada and Monaco and Barcelona first.
20:58A few very different circuits.
21:00So we'll be patient, but we're certain we've made some steps forward.
21:04So I'm very proud of the team, but we're still not where we want to be.
21:07So we still need to keep working.
21:09Thank you.
21:10Thank you very much, guys.
21:11Good luck today.
21:13In case you're watching for the first time this weekend,
21:16Mercedes, just by the way, perhaps slightly worrying through the others,
21:19they're bringing their big upgrade package to Montreal in three weeks' time.
21:22So a couple more weeks after this before we get racing again.
21:25Whereas McLaren and Ferrari brought a lot here, Martin.
21:28They did.
21:29Ferrari got almost a new car.
21:30McLaren a lot of pieces too.
21:32But they're not going to stand still either.
21:33They've got a lot of updates coming, both those teams, for Montreal.
21:38But you're right.
21:39They're a little bit out of sync with Mercedes,
21:41who I think will take their leapfrog in Canada.
21:45But they all seem incredibly close again, don't they?
21:48Yeah, which is great for the show.
21:50Jensen, I want to come to you, though.
21:51I mean, we've not seen these cars turn a wheel in earnest,
21:55especially, you know, wheel-to-wheel in damp conditions.
21:58Should that happen?
21:59It was quite interesting hearing what Charles-Claire was saying early on in the weekend.
22:03You know, we might be passengers here.
22:04We don't know what's going to happen.
22:06They've got a lot of torque under them.
22:07They've got a lot of torque under them, yes.
22:09And they're basically going to have a full battery the whole time they're out there.
22:13Another issue is, talking to a few drivers, is the deacceleration that you get from the recharge
22:19can sometimes cause issues, especially on the downshift.
22:22So you're locking the rails, which is definitely what you don't want in wet conditions.
22:26So, yes, everything is exaggerated in the wet, and it's a bit of unknown for most of the drivers.
22:30Absolutely, yeah.
22:32But it does feel like the story as a whole, if you look at the season,
22:35has changed this weekend compared to the first three weekends, doesn't it, Naomi?
22:38Well, it does.
22:39I mean, we're honestly only at race four, so I think a lot is going to change.
22:42I mean, this is one of the biggest overhauls and regulations in a long, long time.
22:46So, inevitably, things are going to happen.
22:48So, just as they did yesterday, I mean, McLaren were on top one minute,
22:51the next minute they weren't anymore.
22:53So, I think we've got to get used to seeing things change,
22:55but it was positive to see how much progress everyone is making
22:58and how tight it's getting.
22:59and unpredictable, which is what we love in Formula One.
23:02All right, this is the plan to light out here in Miami.
23:06After the break, we'll reflect on the remarkable life of Alex Zanardi.
23:12Ted travelled to Argentina to spend some time with Franco Colapinto.
23:16We didn't have an Argentine driver.
23:18I didn't grow up with that, so I am very happy.
23:21I am now the person for those kids.
23:24Of five to five, Checo took on the blue monster
23:27with world number one, Scotty Scheffler.
23:29There you are, sir.
23:31Thanks.
23:31Make me proud.
23:33Great shot.
23:35Sit.
23:35Stop, stop, stop.
23:36Get in.
23:36Oh!
23:38A lap round the Miami International Autodrome with Naomi
23:41and the pole sitter at 10 past.
23:43This is stressful.
23:46Ah!
23:47Oh, my God.
23:49Pit lane will be open for business at 20 past five.
23:53It's Martin's grid walk at half past
23:57and lights out for the Miami Grand Prix at six o'clock.
24:07There we go.
24:08One of the biggest stars, well, in Miami, the whole of the world.
24:11Arguably the greatest football of all time.
24:13Lionel Messi is here.
24:14Obviously, he plays for Inter Miami.
24:16He's down here with George Russell and Kimi Antonelli
24:20and so, too, Rafael Nadal.
24:22I hope it doesn't start raining before Martin's grid walk
24:24because a long list of celebrities.
24:26Back in a couple of tits.
24:36Now, some terrible news on Friday
24:39when we learnt of the death of former F1 driver,
24:43two-time IndyCar champion,
24:45a quadruple Paralympic champion, Alex Zanardi.
24:48Tributes on the cars.
24:49Here's our own tribute to him.
24:55Alex Zanardi was not only a champion racing driver,
24:58he was one of the most inspirational figures in sport.
25:02His recovery from life-changing injuries,
25:04sustained in a crash in 2001,
25:08saw him not only return to the wheel and win races,
25:11but also saw him win gold
25:14at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games.
25:18Instead of asking myself,
25:20how am I going to live with no legs,
25:22I simply asked myself,
25:24how the hell am I going to do all the things
25:26that I have to do with no legs?
25:28Charming and charismatic,
25:30the Italian was universally loved.
25:33A very special man, driver, athlete,
25:38a real symbol and example
25:40of what it means to love life.
25:43He was remarkable.
25:45For one, he was just a really lovely guy.
25:49And then just with his resilience,
25:53you know, the way he came back,
25:54the way he's,
25:55how he always maintained a real positive attitude
25:58and accomplished so much.
26:00It's a real inspiration for so many.
26:02I think he did things the right way.
26:04What a lovely, lovely gentleman
26:07and absolutely inspirational.
26:09You know, what he did in athletics
26:11and in a racing car is fantastic.
26:14But as a human being,
26:15oh my God,
26:16he was such a nice guy.
26:17He had two spells in Formula One
26:20with Jordan,
26:22Minardi,
26:24Lotus
26:24and Williams.
26:27But it was in the United States
26:29that he achieved his greatest racing successes.
26:52He went a little bit more carefully
26:53at the previous turn
26:55and I had my occasion.
26:56I had my shot.
26:57Twice he was IndyCar champion
26:59in 1997 and 1998.
27:02It was Zanadi
27:03who first introduced
27:04celebratory donuts on the track.
27:07In 2001 though,
27:09he lost control
27:10exiting the pits
27:11and was hit by another car
27:13at over 200 miles per hour,
27:15severing his legs on impact.
27:17His heart stopped seven times
27:19and he survived
27:20on less than a litre of blood.
27:23Yet unbelievably,
27:25just two years later,
27:26he was back behind the wheel,
27:28driving an adapted IndyCar
27:31for several laps
27:31at the scene of his accident
27:33in Germany.
27:38Zanadi subsequently raced
27:40and won
27:41in the World Touring Car Championship
27:44before turning his attention
27:45to the world of hand cycling.
27:47And that opened for me
27:51the door to a new life
27:55where London, Rio de Janeiro
27:58and all the nice things
28:00that are filling my life these days
28:03were the horizon.
28:04But I didn't need to get to that horizon
28:08to be happy.
28:09Happiness was right there,
28:10available to enjoy
28:13as I was alive.
28:16I was happy to be alive.
28:19Whatever happens in life
28:21is never completely good
28:22or never completely bad.
28:23It's both things
28:24in a different combination,
28:26for sure.
28:27But if you are able to see
28:29whatever's good
28:30into what happens,
28:32you can use it
28:33as a leaning point
28:34to start on
28:36and maybe down the road
28:37turn what happened
28:38into an opportunity.
28:40and for sure my accent
28:41became the biggest opportunity
28:44in my life.
28:46Zanadi's legacy
28:47stretched beyond sport,
28:49proving what human spirit
28:51is capable of.
28:53He radiated positivity
28:55when he entered a room
28:56and will be sorely missed
28:58across the world.
29:20Alex Zanadi who died
29:22on Friday.
29:23Martin,
29:24both of you guys
29:25knew him.
29:26What a remarkable individual.
29:28utterly unique.
29:30Yeah,
29:30we both found it
29:31quite hard to watch that,
29:32actually.
29:34I mean,
29:34life's not fair,
29:35is it?
29:35He was such a lovely man,
29:38a fierce competitor
29:39and that doesn't
29:39often go together.
29:41And,
29:42you know,
29:43really,
29:43a world-class racing driver.
29:45He lost a chunk
29:46of his body
29:47and just came back
29:48and won races
29:50and then he got
29:50into the parallel.
29:52He gets involved
29:53in a road accident
29:54as well,
29:54the truck.
29:55It's just so unfair
29:56for him
29:57and still he survived that
29:59and still he was
30:00an incredible person
30:02and,
30:03yes,
30:04a role model
30:04for absolutely everybody
30:05in the way that
30:06he went about his life
30:08and he lived his life
30:09despite all of the challenges.
30:11So,
30:12yeah,
30:12it's really sad
30:13that he's gone.
30:14Pure resilience.
30:15Yeah,
30:16I think when you look
30:17at what he achieved
30:18in motorsport,
30:19as Martin said,
30:20and what he went through,
30:22to come out the other side
30:24and to fight
30:25for Olympic gold
30:26in Paralympics
30:27is just phenomenal.
30:28But,
30:28what a lovely man.
30:30I've spent quite a bit
30:30of time with him
30:31over the years
30:32and,
30:33yeah,
30:33he had an amazing quote,
30:36which I'll try
30:36not to get wrong.
30:38In life,
30:38if you really want something,
30:39you've got to fight for it
30:40and if you fight for it,
30:41anything is achievable.
30:43I mean,
30:44you can tell
30:45his importance,
30:46but as an Italian,
30:48a proud Italian as well,
30:49the Italian prime minister
30:50with a quote
30:51which was along the lines
30:52of exactly what you were saying.
30:53Like,
30:53he took absolutely
30:54everything that would
30:56deeply,
30:57deeply affect
30:58many,
30:59many people
30:59and turned it
31:00into a positive
31:01and that in itself
31:02is arguably
31:04his greatest achievement,
31:05isn't it,
31:05to look on the bright side
31:06of life?
31:07He summed it up,
31:07didn't he,
31:08in that interview
31:09he was part of there
31:09when he said,
31:11it wasn't about
31:12how am I going to live
31:12my life without any legs,
31:13it was how am I going to do
31:14everything I've got to do
31:16and I'm going to do
31:17without legs
31:18and so that sort of positive
31:20topspin on that
31:21and mindset
31:22but yeah,
31:23I mean,
31:24and then when you see,
31:26when you see his muscles
31:27and what he built up
31:28to win the Paralympics
31:31was not easy
31:31and by the way,
31:33loads of other gold medals
31:34as well
31:34in other championships.
31:35so he said about that
31:38and you could imagine
31:39the attention to detail
31:40he would have gone to
31:41on his chair
31:42and the wheels
31:43and the cambers
31:44and the lube
31:44and the bearings
31:46everything would have been
31:47so F1
31:48about everything he did.
31:51What a magnificent man.
31:52I think there's
31:53an iconic photo,
31:54wasn't it,
31:54in London 2012
31:56of him holding
31:57his handcart above him
31:58as he's on the top step
31:59of the podium
32:00but there we go.
32:02What a remarkable man,
32:03Alex Zanardi
32:04who died on Friday
32:06and all of our thoughts
32:07with his friends
32:08and family.
32:09He would enjoy seeing,
32:10I'm sure,
32:11Kimi Antonelli
32:12on pole position here.
32:13When we come back,
32:14we're gonna switch things up
32:16to Franco Colapinto.
32:18So many Argentinian fans here
32:20and Ted went to meet him
32:22at his home in Buenos Aires.
32:27When I was young,
32:29I just wanted to arrive
32:30to Formula One
32:30because of me
32:31and because it was my dream
32:32and something really personal.
32:34Then as I started growing up
32:35and started to see
32:36what it was generating,
32:38it started to be
32:39a big part of it
32:40for my country,
32:41for Argentina,
32:42for the fans,
32:43for everyone supporting me
32:44and it started to be
32:45something much bigger
32:46than just for me.
32:59as I mentioned,
33:01Lionel Messi is here
33:02and there are a lot
33:04of Argentinian fans here
33:06all besotted
33:07by Franco Colapinto
33:09who starts from 8 today.
33:12Ted's also besotted
33:13with Franco Colapinto
33:14went to visit him
33:15in Buenos Aires.
33:39the life of an athlete,
33:40of a sportsman,
33:41it is full of sacrifices
33:42and you have to make them
33:44to make the dreams a reality.
33:49As a kid of 14 years old,
33:51I wanted to go to Formula One,
33:53which is the way
33:54the way it's going to Europe.
33:57I think the best experience
33:58of my life
33:58is to go alone so early
33:59and to live that experience.
34:03There's a lot of unknown things
34:05that for a parent
34:05is really difficult to swallow
34:07and to have made
34:08those kind of sacrifices
34:09and decisions.
34:10It always makes me very happy
34:12because I know that
34:13without those
34:14I wouldn't be here today.
34:18So Franco,
34:19welcome home.
34:21Thank you, Ted.
34:21How does it feel?
34:22Welcome to you.
34:23Thank you very much.
34:23Welcome to you guys.
34:25You have a great history
34:27of great Argentine drivers
34:28in Formula One.
34:29Juan Manuel Fangio,
34:31Carlos Reutemann.
34:32Fangio and Reutemann,
34:33they were the biggest
34:34Argentine drivers.
34:36It's been a very long time
34:37but they wrote the story
34:38in the sport
34:39and they are a big part
34:40of the history of F1.
34:42I think Senna,
34:43to me,
34:43when I started to grow up
34:44a little bit more,
34:45he was the biggest driver
34:46who I followed
34:47and who I got really motivated
34:49and who I learned the most from.
34:52Actually,
34:53when I was growing up,
34:54I was really following Checo.
34:56He was the driver
34:57that felt the closest to Argentina
34:59and we didn't have
35:00an Argentine driver.
35:01I didn't grow up with that.
35:02So I am very happy
35:04that the kids,
35:05the fans of motorsport
35:06are able to grow up
35:08with an Argentine driver.
35:09I am now the person
35:11for those kids.
35:18In downtown Buenos Aires,
35:20you see Diego Maradona,
35:22you see Lionel Messi.
35:23You won the last World Cup,
35:24but Argentines love
35:26their Formula One.
35:27And now,
35:27the new generation,
35:28you see you
35:29on a lot of advertising.
35:31To me,
35:31it's really cool
35:32and it just makes me
35:34really happy
35:35that a big part of it
35:36is because I made it
35:37to Formula One.
35:38Yeah.
35:38Because it is true
35:40and the reality is
35:41that when I was young,
35:42I just wanted to arrive
35:43to Formula One
35:44because of me
35:44and because it was my dream
35:46and something really personal.
35:47Then I started growing up
35:48and started to see
35:49what it was generating.
35:51It started to be
35:52a big part of it
35:53for my country,
35:54for Argentina,
35:55for the fans,
35:56for everyone supporting me
35:57and it started to be
35:58something much bigger
35:59than just for me.
36:03You are a football fan?
36:05I don't know.
36:06I mean,
36:06F1's really more my thing,
36:08but yeah,
36:08I don't mind football.
36:09Football in Argentina
36:10is something you cannot miss
36:12is to go to a football match.
36:13Actually,
36:13like,
36:14it is the biggest sport here.
36:16You need to go to the part,
36:18you know,
36:18where they are all jumping
36:19and with flags
36:20and throwing things
36:21and a bit of fire.
36:24It is one of the best experiences.
36:26All right,
36:26I might do that.
36:27Yeah,
36:27you need to do it.
36:29Vamos!
36:42Hey, dude.
36:43Hey, Franco.
36:43How was the game?
36:44The game?
36:45Yeah.
36:46Was it good?
36:47Yeah, the game.
36:47It wasn't all very good.
36:48No, it was good.
36:50Everyone last night
36:50was talking about being here,
36:52the road show.
36:53We're going to the event.
36:54Yeah.
36:54Whole city.
36:54Maybe half a million.
36:55It's a nice show.
36:56Half a million.
36:56That's a lot, huh?
36:57That's more than a football match.
36:59Yeah.
37:05I do feel that the sport
37:06needs to come back to Argentina.
37:12And I feel that the event happening,
37:15it's a great start
37:16to show what it can generate,
37:19to show how passionate Argentina is
37:22for everyone to see
37:23how much they want to get fun
37:25back in our country.
37:37It's just 25 years since
37:39an X-Band driver from Argentina raced.
37:41Yeah, the legacy needs to keep going.
37:43Of course, it's extremely cool that it's me,
37:45but I also want to have many more opportunities
37:50for the Argentine drivers.
37:51And we are really motivated.
37:53And I think everyone in the team,
37:54in the factory,
37:55in the workshop,
37:56their phrases are very different
37:57to last year.
37:58And that makes me really happy.
37:59And to see the opportunity,
38:00they are every weekend fighting for points,
38:03being close to the points.
38:04And it's what we wanted
38:06and what we were aiming for.
38:08So, of course,
38:09a lot of work still behind the scenes,
38:11but we are in the right path,
38:13I think.
38:23Is it me,
38:24or is he the spitting image of Ertan Senna?
38:25No, it's not just you.
38:26I see it as well,
38:27and it's slightly frightening.
38:29What a great feature, though.
38:30I mean, good to see him at home.
38:32Obviously, Ted getting involved
38:33with the Argentine fans there.
38:35Absolutely.
38:35What Ted doesn't know about football,
38:37he doesn't know.
38:38But, yeah,
38:38enjoying himself down at River Plate.
38:42I mean, I think that
38:43the thing with him is
38:44he's just,
38:45this is Franco now,
38:48what do we think about the way
38:49his driving is developing this year?
38:51Because, obviously,
38:52he had his critics last year,
38:54and he gets passionate support
38:56from the Argentinian families
38:58who stick up for him.
38:59But he's making amends this year,
39:01isn't he?
39:01He has, yeah.
39:02Last year was a really tricky year for him,
39:04alongside Pierre.
39:05Pierre, who's just maximizing everything,
39:07whether the car's good or bad.
39:09But this year,
39:10he's definitely been closer.
39:12And this weekend,
39:12he's had one over on here,
39:14which is no mean feat.
39:15That's impressive.
39:16You can't forget,
39:17obviously, last year here in Miami,
39:19Jack Doon was still at the wheel of the car.
39:22And this is the first time
39:23he's had a start of the season with a team.
39:25He obviously would have then
39:26had the winter break
39:27to prepare everything.
39:28And I think we can't ignore
39:29that that obviously plays a role
39:30in getting fully prepared,
39:31feeling comfortable.
39:32I hear also the team feel
39:34that he's very focused on the data
39:36and sometimes maybe a little too much
39:37comparing himself to Pierre
39:38and not actually just letting go
39:39and doing what he knows how to do.
39:41But it's looking a lot better already
39:43this year for him.
39:44There's a huge passion at Fanbase,
39:45as we know, in Brazil.
39:46But there's the rest of South America
39:48to open up.
39:48And he could be one of the keys here
39:50because, as I said,
39:51it's just enormous.
39:53And when they come out,
39:54they come out in huge numbers.
39:55Yeah, it's amazing.
39:56You know, the support that he has,
39:58a whole nation behind him,
39:59which works in two ways, right?
40:01It's nice because you have that support,
40:02gives you confidence,
40:03but also puts a lot of pressure
40:04on your shoulders.
40:05And he's still young.
40:06We can't forget that.
40:07So it's how he handles that pressure.
40:09Pressure, I think,
40:11determines his future career.
40:13What about the decision?
40:14I mean, Flavio,
40:15we talk about Flavio Vittoria a lot,
40:17but he was instrumental, obviously,
40:19getting Mercedes engine into the Alpine.
40:23And he's made an enormous difference.
40:25And now we're seeing the best
40:26of Pierre Gasly as well.
40:27Yeah, I mean, it was a big decision,
40:29a big talk within the paddock, obviously.
40:31A lot of team members at Viri
40:32were not happy about the decision,
40:34which you can understand.
40:35But if we look at today,
40:36I think that everybody can agree
40:38that it was the right decision.
40:39There was a lot of talks
40:40about this Mercedes power unit
40:42developed by HPP,
40:43that it was going to be a strong engine
40:45and clearly it's delivered.
40:46But Enstone themselves,
40:47I mean, they've been a sleeping giant
40:49for a number of years.
40:50We know they've had success in the past.
40:52They've been a very, very successful team.
40:54So it'd be nice to see the smiles on their faces
40:56after a number of very difficult years.
40:59Yeah, obviously,
41:00we remember them back in the 90s
41:02when winning the World Championship
41:03with Michael Schumacher.
41:06So, yeah, it's a far cry from that.
41:08But it's great to see improvement
41:10from them this year.
41:11Most cars in Q3,
41:13that's a big deal for Alpine.
41:15So this is great progress that we're seeing.
41:17What's your thoughts on Pierre Gasly,
41:19by the way, as a team leader?
41:20Well, I think he's been a very solid
41:22and consistent driver.
41:23Obviously, not a long time ago,
41:24it was him and Esteban Ocon,
41:26which were both, you know,
41:27experienced drivers in Formula One.
41:28But with Carlo Pinto coming in
41:30and him having a couple
41:31of different drivers there,
41:32he's had to take that leadership role.
41:34And I think that he's done a very good job.
41:35He's been very consistent
41:36and he knows what he's doing,
41:37which is good.
41:38You've got a solid driver.
41:40He's able to communicate very well
41:41with the team.
41:42And I think that that also helps him progress
41:43in a time that's been
41:44not always very stable for him.
41:46Hey, look at that.
41:47I can see in the grandstand,
41:49just on the other side
41:51of the main straight here,
41:52a number of Argentinian flags.
41:54But look at that.
41:55That's great.
41:56As you're saying,
41:57when you go to downtown,
41:59central of the city,
42:00in Buenos Aires,
42:02it is huge murals
42:04all over the size of buildings
42:05of Maradona and Messi.
42:08And if Carlo Pinto can stick around
42:10and have some success
42:11in Formula One,
42:12I wonder, as we said,
42:13if one day he might get one as well.
42:17But Lionel Messi,
42:18always great to see him here.
42:19Apparently his wife
42:20is an enormous Formula One fan
42:23that's actually brought him down here.
42:25But I should imagine
42:25that's also to have a word
42:28with his young Argentinian counterpart
42:31and their first F1 driver
42:33for a while from that country.
42:36Lovely stuff.
42:37OK, we're going to take a short break.
42:38When we come back,
42:39we're going to change gears
42:41and head across
42:42to the Cadillac Championship
42:43where there's a golf tournament
42:45going on at the moment
42:46and some superstars
42:47of the golfing world too.
42:54When we do, like,
42:55between Australia and China,
42:57I got to play Royal Melbourne,
42:59which was pretty good.
43:00So there's some nice ones on the tour,
43:02but you've got to kind of
43:03squeeze it in between.
43:04The actual day job, don't you?
43:05I think we're there, Caddy.

44:38I'm a bit nervous.
44:39So many people watching.

44:50Now on the tee,
44:51Scotty Sheffield.
44:58How are you feeling?
44:59Is the heart rate up?
45:00It is.
45:01Yeah, I bet.
45:01I mean, just looking at him,
45:03how...
45:03Is he so far?
45:05I'm sure we will be able
45:06to learn a bit.
45:07Good luck.
45:07Well, I'm going to coach you
45:08around this first hole.
45:10Boom.
45:11Shot.
45:13You made it look easy.
45:17Shot, Checo.
45:18All right.
45:20Great shot.
45:21Shot.
45:22Good start.
45:22Good start.
45:24Boy.
45:24The pressure is there.
45:26Now we can relax a bit.
45:27Now you can relax.
45:28You got it away.
45:29Talk me through that.
45:30Do you know him?
45:31I don't know him.
45:32No.
45:32But I was just telling Checo,
45:34it's like,
45:34what you're going to see
45:35when he hits the ball,
45:35it's the same thing.
45:36Like, if I'm in the car with you,
45:37I can't do what you do.
45:38Yeah.
45:38We can't do what he does.
45:39What do you play off, Checo?
45:40What's your,
45:40what's your handicap at the moment?
45:4222.
45:4222?
45:43Yeah.
45:43I mean,
45:44yeah.
45:45For me,
45:45that shot was like,
45:46really,
45:47really,
45:48like,
45:48it could have happened
45:50anything,
45:50you know?
45:54How far is the,
45:56the sand?
45:58It's a car five,
45:59huh?
45:59I think you could hit
46:00a three-wood up there.
46:01We go with a four.
46:02Four-iron?
46:03Yeah.
46:04Safety.
46:05Nice.
46:05Get yourself in position.
46:09Great shot.
46:10Great shot.
46:11Thanks.
46:11How about it?
46:12It was,
46:13it was the right club,
46:15you know,
46:15right direction.
46:16Right direction,
46:16that's all that matters.
46:17Let's learn from the best,
46:19as well.
46:19Let's see what he does.
46:26Wow.
46:26It's unbelievable,
46:27isn't it?
46:29The race is sweet.
46:30Sunday.
46:31Sunday?
46:31Yeah,
46:32you coming down?
46:33You're staying for,
46:34is it at night?
46:36Well,
46:37it's four o'clock.
46:37It's four o'clock.
46:38You might be done by then?
46:39I hope,
46:39I hope.
46:39I hope he's working.
46:40I hope I'm working,
46:41yeah.
46:43You've been to a race ever?
46:45I've never.
46:45Never.
46:46We need to get you to a race soon.
46:48How many tournaments you do a year?
46:50I'll do probably between 20 and 25 events a year.
46:54Right.
46:54It's about average for me.
46:55Yeah.
46:55You can pick and choose now,
46:56can't you?
46:57You don't need to.
46:57A little bit,
46:58yeah.
46:59I wish it was like that,
47:00the informal one.
47:01Yeah.
47:02When we do,
47:02like,
47:02between Australia and China,
47:04I got to play Royal Melbourne,
47:05which was,
47:05which was pretty good.
47:06So there's some,
47:07some nice ones on the tour,
47:08but you've got to kind of squeeze it in between the actual day job,
47:12don't you?
47:12I think we're there,
47:13Caddy.
47:13You here?
47:13Yeah,
47:14I keep losing myself.
47:15Right.
47:15We've got,
47:15come on,
47:16come on.
47:16Too much rough.
47:17Over here,
47:17too much natching.
47:22Fade it in.
47:23Just off that tree.
47:24Perfect.
47:28Go,
47:28go.
47:29Get over that bunker.
47:30You're not a 22 handicapper.
47:32I am.
47:33You'll see.
47:33You'll see.
47:34Wait for it.
47:35It always comes.
47:36Right.
47:42Well-o.
47:44Just all over it.
47:45A little bit left.
47:48Throw it up like Phil Mickelson,
47:49and everyone will be fine.
47:52You have a lot of hope on it.
47:53You have a lot of hope.
47:54I know you can do this.
47:56Yeah.
47:57There you go, sir.
47:58Thanks.
47:58Make me proud.
48:03Great shot.
48:05Sit.
48:05Sit.
48:06Stop.
48:06Stop.
48:07Stop.
48:08That was unlucky, mate.
48:11Is that a 500 poker chip?
48:17Focus on the game.
48:18It's done for the chips.
48:23Oh.
48:24Good pace.
48:26So you guys left to right?
48:27Yeah, left to right, isn't it?
48:29Go.
48:30Get up.
48:31Oh, unlucky.
48:33Good rule.
48:34Good six.
48:35What was that?
48:36Six.
48:37Good six.
48:38Five.
48:39Five.
48:40One.
48:41One.
48:42Two.
48:44Three.
48:44Four.
48:45Five.
48:46Six.
48:46Just go there.
48:47Because you were three to there.
48:55What do you take from that, then?
48:57World number one.
48:58A few lessons between sportsmen?
48:59Yeah, he gave me a couple of lessons,
49:01especially his caddy on the pot.
49:04Yeah.
49:04Which is going to help me, I'm sure.
49:06He's just such a nice guy, you know?
49:09Yeah, I really, really enjoyed it.
49:11Obviously, let's look ahead to the weekend, then.
49:13What does it mean to the entire Cadillac family?
49:15First home Grand Prix for them.
49:16What does it mean to you?
49:17Yeah, it's a big weekend for us coming up, you know,
49:20with Cadillac, especially the first time
49:23that we are able to bring some big upgrades into the car.
49:25Looking forward to close up the gap
49:27to the rest of the field.
49:28And, yeah, keep making that progress.
49:30I think the team is doing a fantastic job.
49:32You've been around the sport for a long time.
49:34What are you thinking for this year and the future?
49:37I think I want to see progress, you know?
49:39It's a very critical weekend for us
49:41where we bring a big upgrade.
49:42And if we're able to make that progress,
49:44close up the gap the way we did it in Suzuka,
49:47I think that will be a fantastic weekend
49:49and a fantastic, let's say, start to our season.
49:53What about the relationship with Valtteri as well this year
49:55and how much are you enjoying racing alongside him?
49:57When you're in Formula 1, you are at the pinnacle of your sport,
50:00regardless of you're fighting for P1 or P18.
50:03So to have someone like him,
50:04you know that he will always keep you on your toes.
50:07So that's great, you know, great reference to have
50:10and a great motivation also to beat him, of course,
50:13you know, because it's your first reference, as always.
50:15Absolutely.
50:16I know you're going to continue now, aren't you?
50:18Scott, he's going to stop, but you're going to crack on.
50:20Yeah, we will keep going, you know, another nine.
50:23And the handicap hasn't appeared so far,
50:26so let's see if it gets that way.
50:28Best of luck, mate. Play well.
50:29Have a good weekend.
50:30Thanks.
50:30Cheers.
50:39A great experience, that for all involved.
50:42It is the final round, by the way, of the Cadillac Championship.
50:45They, too, brought their start times forward this morning
50:49because of the threat of rain.
50:50It is Cam Young who leads the way,
50:52and Scotty Scheffler hot on his heels.
50:55What a nice guy he was.
50:56We thoroughly enjoyed that.
50:58And it's a family affair down here, by the way.
51:00That's on Sky Sports Golf at the moment at Cadillac
51:04because I'm joined now by CEO Dan Towers.
51:07And the real boss, his wife, Cassidy,
51:11Chief Brand Advisor to Cadillac.
51:13I'm right in saying, Cassidy,
51:14that you two met through motorsport.
51:16Quite a journey.
51:17This must be a big day in the Towers household.
51:20Absolutely.
51:20It's surreal to be here,
51:22especially considering where we started.
51:23I grew up around IndyCar,
51:25and, you know, kind of got to shepherd Dan
51:28into that world a little bit back then,
51:30and now to be here after all this time,
51:32especially in Miami.
51:33You know, we've attended every year of this Grand Prix,
51:36so to now be here with the team,
51:38and it haven't all come to fruition,
51:40it's really special.
51:41How good was that golf, by the way?
51:43I want to tell the viewers at home,
51:46he's pretty good.
51:47Plays off a handicap of about six,
51:49but on the very last hole,
51:50he hit a shot out of the bunker,
51:52downslope injury towards water,
51:54and then sunk the puck and left it.
51:56I mean, you're pretty good.
51:57How long have you been playing golf?
51:58You know, I was inspired by Scottie.
52:00I think getting to play a round of golf
52:01with the world's number one,
52:02and to play with Checo on that beautiful course,
52:05it was a great day and a lot of fun.
52:07It's great to have you guys on the grid.
52:08I mean, this is my first race back,
52:10and just to get used to having
52:11an additional team on the grid,
52:12it's exciting stuff.
52:13I mean, the more, the merrier,
52:14but you guys have also come in with a bang.
52:16I mean, Cassidy, you're obviously brand advisor to the team,
52:19and honestly, it's been so refreshing
52:20to see the way you've done things
52:21with the livery launch during the Super Bowl.
52:23Tell me more about what's in store
52:24and why you want to do things differently,
52:26and maybe not the traditional way
52:27that we've become used to seeing.
52:28Of course.
52:29I think the way that we want to represent ourselves,
52:31we're being really intentional about it,
52:32being really thoughtful about it,
52:34maybe staying away from the cliches
52:36that come with being American,
52:39and then also just focusing on the work
52:42of the team to be done as well.
52:43We're really focused on growing and progressing as a team,
52:46and so it's really an honor to bring those visions
52:49and ideas to life across different things,
52:50but there's a lot to come this year,
52:52you know, some more special liveries in the future and things,
52:54and so it's been a joy to bring it to life.
52:57Dan, we're talking about stepping stones
52:59in the journey of Cadillac.
53:01First of all, you get the entry,
53:03then you go testing, you have your first,
53:05then you got your first race,
53:06and now you're here at your first home race.
53:09How's it feel?
53:10What's next, and what is the next stepping stone for you?
53:13Yeah, I mean, it's tremendous to be racing here
53:15in front of, you know, our home fans here in the U.S.
53:18It's our fourth race,
53:19and the progression from Melbourne to this,
53:22the team just continues to gel,
53:23and, you know, form right before our eyes.
53:26You know, we brought upgrades,
53:28the performances there.
53:29You know, just like yesterday,
53:30there are gremlins that come out,
53:31you know, to be expected for a first-year team,
53:34but that upward progression is there,
53:35the performance, you know, continues to improve,
53:38and, you know, we're setting our sights on midfield
53:40as we keep climbing the ladder.
53:42Best of luck for today.
53:43Best of luck for the rest of the season.
53:44Great to see you.
53:45Thank you for the time.
53:46The great work.
53:46Good stuff.
53:47Okay, I told you there's lots of celebrities here in Miami,
53:50and another one is in the paddock.
53:54Here he is, DJ Khaled, superstar DJ,
53:57based out of Miami as we head towards...
