00:12Presenting himself as a candidate of continuity and stability, he is widely seen as familiar with organizations' inner workings and
00:20acceptable to many factions inside the union.
00:23In his first remarks to Tunisian media on Saturday, Selmi said he wants to put social dialogue with the government
00:30back on track after months of rupture.
00:33Selmi has set two priorities, greater transparency and defending the union's independence from any political instrumentalization or tension.
00:41He faces two major challenges, deep internal divisions which force the union to hold its elective Congress a year early
00:48and very strained relations with the executive power.
00:51He takes off from Nureddin Tabubi, who has headed the union confederation since 2017.
00:58The union officials had previously said that Tabubi was resigning due to internal conflicts.
