00:01None of us know what surprises life has in store for us.
00:06But all around are everyday heroes.
00:08Ordinary people showing amazing bravery, courage and determination.
00:12I was holding him by the wrist so that he couldn't blow up the bomb.
00:16When I opened my eyes, I was on the hospital bed, all handcuffed.
00:19I competed in eight Ironman triathlons.
00:23And I'm here to give them the recognition they deserve.
00:26I've assembled a crack team of artists, painters and sculptors
00:30to immortalize these unsung heroes with a unique series of portraits.
00:34This is the hardest bit for you, isn't it, Eddie?
00:36Sitting still.
00:37We were just looking at you.
00:40Can you look at me with your eyes?
00:42It's not going to be easy.
00:43I've been in my own personal hell.
00:45The reveals are not that far away now.
00:48If this second cast fails, I'm done.
00:50There's a big sense of responsibility to capture their story.
00:55But the results are going to be amazing.
00:57I've put my heart and soul into this.
00:59Three, two, one.
01:03Fantastic.
01:03Quite blown away, to be honest.
01:05I wasn't thinking you were going to make me cry.
01:07Sorry, I'm getting a bit emotional.
01:10Creating a legacy for generations to come.
01:13I want to remember them like that.
01:14I'm struggling to find right words because there's no words.
01:18To have us captured in that moment, in that spot that means so much is an absolute privilege.
01:25Welcome to Extraordinary Portraits.
01:37Across the UK, a staggering number of exotic animals are being kept in grim conditions.
01:44And when I say exotic, I mean things like capybaras, alpacas, mountain lions.
01:50And when I say grim, I'm talking sheds, garages, even spare rooms.
02:01Lindsay's rescued hundreds of wild animals that would otherwise have been put down.
02:05She cares for them at her self-funded rescue centre and has devoted her life to raising awareness about the
02:12exotic pet trade.
02:13Hello, Lindsay.
02:15Hello, Bill. Lovely to meet you.
02:17Lovely to meet you too.
02:18Come on in.
02:20Welcome to my artist's retreat.
02:24Welcome, Lindsay.
02:25I'm really interested to hear about all the work you do,
02:29because I think, actually, we have quite a lot in common in our love of animals.
02:34Where did it begin, this sort of, the idea of this sanctuary that you have?
02:39I went to buy a piece of furniture in Cardiff,
02:42and I went into a garage,
02:44and the bloke sending me the piece of furniture kicked something on the floor,
02:47and it was a little raccoon.
02:49And they had bought it on a whim for their kid, Christmas.
02:52So I went home with a raccoon and a piece of furniture.
02:55Where have they got the raccoon from?
02:56They got it online.
02:57There is a huge legal trade in wild animals.
03:01Mm.
03:02And that thousands of wild animals every year are given a life sentence as a captive domestic pet.
03:07How many animals do you have at the moment, then?
03:09We've got 198.
03:10Good Lord.
03:12We've got 42 different species, from meerkat, monkeys, mountain lions.
03:17We do not fulfil our animals' needs, because they're not wild.
03:20Is it possible for them to be released back into the wild?
03:25If it was an option bill, I would pay myself to fly them back to where they came from.
03:30The issue for an animal that's been born in captivity is they haven't been parent trained.
03:35If they're part of a social group like a meerkat, to put a single one out there would be life
03:41sentence.
03:42Yeah.
03:42You try and find a rescue centre for a traumatised mountain lion.
03:47Mm.
03:47If they don't exist.
03:49So euthanasia is very high on the list for wild animals.
03:52Yeah.
03:53It must be relentless, though.
03:55Yeah.
03:55And does that put a bit of strain on you?
03:58It's 24-7, sometimes right through the night.
04:01Anyone that looks after animals like this, their stories are very similar.
04:04It's like, you know, you start off with something and then it just snowballs, you know.
04:08And you find out that an animal is going to be, well, in our case, was going to be euthanised.
04:13And we said, well, we'll take it.
04:14And the next minute we're getting calls from, you know, from customs.
04:17We've got an enclosure somewhere that's closing down.
04:20And it's a lot of work.
04:22It's consumed my whole life.
04:24So I don't have a life outside the sanctuary.
04:27I mean, it's a big cost to take on, isn't it?
04:30Yeah, it does cost a lot.
04:31I don't mind that.
04:33I want the animals to have a good life.
04:34But what I do want to put more of my energy in is turning that tap off.
04:38Yeah. Full stop.
04:40We'd better talk about a portrait.
04:42Okay.
04:42Because that's the sort of point of the show, really.
04:44Oh, yeah.
04:45You remember?
04:45Yeah.
04:46So, firstly, how do you feel about having your portrait painted?
04:50Um, a little bit shy, I'm going to be honest.
04:53I've never had it done.
04:54Right.
04:55Sit tight, Lindsay.
04:55Okay.
04:56I'll go and get the artist.
04:57See you in a minute.
05:09Hello, everyone.
05:10I don't want to keep you from your life class, but I've spoken to today's sitter.
05:18Amazing Woman runs a wildlife rescue centre, devoted her whole life to looking after animals.
05:24And is sort of campaigning to try and get the law changed so that wild animals can't be bought online.
05:30So, I'm thinking, who might be someone who would be appropriate?
05:36Someone, an animal lover, perhaps someone...
05:39I'm thinking you, Ricky.
05:40I love animals.
05:41Yeah, there you go, you see.
05:42Well, come with me, and I'll fill you in on the way.
05:45Brilliant.
05:45I'm up, guys.
05:46Yeah, he's up.
05:55Lindsay, this is Ricky.
05:56Hello.
05:57Your artist.
05:58Hi, lovely to meet you.
05:59How you doing?
06:00I know you.
06:01I know you.
06:02I'm going to know you.
06:04Yes.
06:04You never told me you...
06:06It was...
06:06Well, you see, the thing is...
06:08They've got Will.i.am back there.
06:11When you're thinking about making art, do you have a process?
06:14I do do it just myself.
06:16And so it can be very varied.
06:19And that, I think, is going to be my superpower on this.
06:22I'm going to try and do you justice and your story justice, because it's intriguing.
06:27I love...
06:28Oh, gorgeous.
06:29No time to waste.
06:31No.
06:31I better go pencil shopping.
06:33Yeah.
06:34Come on, man.
06:34That's a lot.
06:42They immediately seem to get on, to sort of bond.
06:45That will be the key to how the portrait develops.
06:50And I think being an animal lover himself, I think he's already got ideas flowing.
07:09What an amazing gaff she's got.
07:11It's incredible.
07:12I'm here on Recon to do a little bit of a discovery.
07:15I'm already in awe of the size and the amount of animals.
07:20Hello.
07:21Hello.
07:22How are you?
07:23Nice to see you.
07:24Nice to see you too.
07:26This is great.
07:27What a place.
07:29Is this what you expected?
07:31Well, it's more than I expected.
07:33There's a lot more going on.
07:35A lot of sights, a lot of smells, a lot of sounds.
07:38I'm going to be looking at you a lot today.
07:40So don't get freaked out.
07:41Before we do that, do you want me to give you a real quick tour round?
07:44I would love that.
07:47So this is like an entire valley.
07:49How big is this place?
07:5060 acres.
07:51The animals are completely invisible from the outside world.
07:54Yeah.
07:55This is a...
07:57Hello.
07:57...a Largibbon.
07:58A lesser ape.
08:00I mean, they're just incredible animals.
08:03They're incredible animals, but I don't see why in any world where I would want one.
08:08Yeah.
08:10This one came out of her mother's pouch in the field.
08:13Yeah.
08:13And couldn't get back in and then none of the females would accept her in after so long.
08:18Very, very cold.
08:20So she was hand-reared.
08:22By you?
08:22By me, yeah.
08:23In a pouch.
08:24In a pouch.
08:24You can get these t-shirts with pouches.
08:26Yeah.
08:27I don't have favourites, but when you spend every night, every two hours feeding it.
08:32And that must really take its toll.
08:34I think the struggle is not just the hours so much.
08:37It's being accountable for the lives they lead.
08:40And I do find that a genuine, huge burden.
08:45We got a call from a lady.
08:47She had a bath, a small bathtub in her back garden that was actually green and full of sludge that
08:52she had some capybaras in.
08:54And George was one of them.
08:55Yeah.
08:56So we've got six in total.
08:57And for whatever reason, they've evicted George.
09:01Really?
09:01And a lot of places that had groups of capybara will have one that's been evicted.
09:06Like Love Island.
09:08Ricky wants his painting to be more than just a likeness.
09:11He wants to uncover the real Lindsay.
09:14So chatting to her husband is a good place to start.
09:16Hello.
09:18Hi Frank.
09:19Hi Frank.
09:20This is your place as well.
09:22Sort of.
09:23My major contribution in this, and it is quite a significant one, is that I do absolutely nothing.
09:31OK.
09:31So I'll give you an example.
09:33OK.
09:33Suppose your partner turns up and she says to you, right, we've got a pile of mountain lions.
09:40OK.
09:41We're going to build an enclosure for these mountain lions.
09:46Mm-hm.
09:46We're going to pay for the vet's bills and we're going to look after them for the rest of their
09:53lives.
09:54Yeah.
09:54Doing nothing is actually quite significant.
09:58You're not stopping it.
10:00Correct.
10:01Right.
10:01OK.
10:02You got it in one.
10:03OK.
10:03And also, there must be an element of you that goes, this can't be stopped.
10:07That's true.
10:08She's a gal of action and getting people into action.
10:11Oh, absolutely.
10:12And I really like your relationship and it works, doesn't it?
10:16Absolutely.
10:1740 years.
10:18That's not bad, is it?
10:22And what a great relationship to have where you can let someone follow their dream.
10:26We started with one raccoon and then ending up with this huge conservation place with hundreds of animals.
10:33But it's just what she wants.
10:34She can have that.
10:35And that's either because he's a brilliant man or she's unstoppable.
10:41And who are these two?
10:42This is little Leo.
10:43Hi, Leo.
10:43And this is Lexi.
10:44Leo and Lexi.
10:45How are you doing?
10:46It must be amazing having the kids come here.
10:48Oh, they absolutely love it.
10:49They don't want to leave.
10:50I know.
10:50It's incredible.
10:51Imagine having this at Grandma's house.
10:53It would be amazing.
10:54She wants her bed.
10:55You on your night time.
10:56Come on, sweetheart.
10:57So, I really want to get to the bottom of who she is because this is a portrait of her
11:01at the end of the day.
11:02Yeah.
11:02And I know she wants to include a lot of the message in there.
11:06Yeah.
11:06But I think she is the message.
11:08Yeah.
11:08If she wants something, she will go out and get it.
11:10And she's always about improving the animals' lives.
11:13And she's not extravagant.
11:14She's very simple.
11:15She is always herself.
11:17Yeah.
11:17Yeah.
11:18I really like the way her hair is just all over the place.
11:21Always windswept.
11:22She's always outside.
11:23Got her straw in there, yeah.
11:24Straw, okay.
11:25I think here at the farm will mean the most to her.
11:27Okay.
11:28Because this is her life, like.
11:38Between Lindsay telling me about the logistics of the place, emotions are creeping out.
11:42And I find that incredibly, like, it's kind of heartbreaking in the way.
11:45Because every so often she kind of slips and tells a story about an animal.
11:49How she found it.
11:50Where it was.
11:51How it was being looked after.
11:52And how cruel it was.
11:53When I see that side of her personality, I see why she does it.
11:57She can't bear to think of an animal in distress.
11:59And I really feel like I'm getting to know her better.
12:10My head's swimming full of ideas.
12:12I've got plenty of photographs, plenty of sketches.
12:15I'm going to procrastinate on purpose.
12:19And just let it, let it settle in for a few days.
12:27I'm just here to catch up with Ricky.
12:29I know that he's visited Lindsay's sanctuary, which sounds absolutely amazing.
12:34So I want to find out what he's learned so far.
12:37Hey Ricky, how are you doing?
12:38I'm good, thank you. How are you?
12:39Good, very good.
12:40Lovely.
12:41How has it been going?
12:43She's an incredible woman.
12:44She's kind of the embodiment of the whole place.
12:47And so that's what I've got to do.
12:49I've got to get that onto the canvas.
12:50I mean, over 200 animals.
12:52With that, obviously there's 200 stories.
12:55Yeah.
12:55And some of them are pretty shocking.
12:57So there's like a lot of sadness involved in that.
13:01But I want to really celebrate Lindsay and the good that she's doing.
13:04Yeah.
13:04So, I have a sitting tomorrow.
13:08Now, I definitely don't want her to be posing.
13:11No.
13:12This represents to me, I mean obviously it's a little bit too windswept.
13:16I am going to try and capture some of this energy.
13:19This does sort of tell you a little bit about her straight away.
13:23Like, you know, she's not too bothered about being too manicured.
13:28No.
13:28There'd be no point in this.
13:30You're mucking out cages all day, you know.
13:32Exactly.
13:32You want it in her space, being who she is.
13:35You want to just have something which immediately will sort of say,
13:38Oh no, that's her.
13:39Yeah.
13:48I'm really excited to see Lindsay's amazing wildlife sanctuary
13:53here in this beautiful valley on the South Wales border.
13:57And, obviously, to catch up with Ricky.
13:59Apparently, Lindsay's already put him to work.
14:02Aha.
14:03Hello.
14:04Hello there.
14:05Hi, Lindsay.
14:06Hello.
14:07I see now you're getting a feel for the life of an animal keeper.
14:10We're about to feed the gibbons and the spider monkeys.
14:14Right.
14:14So, we're making them lunch, which is solid greens.
14:17Yep.
14:18We have got aubergine, pepper, leek, fennel.
14:22Very healthy stuff.
14:23It is.
14:24It's healthier than what I eat.
14:25I can tell you that much.
14:28We've got three single marmosettes.
14:30So, one in here and one in here.
14:31We're about to integrate.
14:32Put them together.
14:33Yeah.
14:33OK.
14:34They do live in groups, don't they?
14:35I mean, in the wild.
14:36And this one was taken off its mum when it was only a baby.
14:39Oh.
14:39And it's been in hamster cages, pink dresses and nappies.
14:42Fed on the completely wrong diet.
14:44How did you come by this one?
14:47This woman got it from her husband's friend who had bought it from a dealer off TikTok.
14:53That is how a lot of these animals are passed around and sold.
14:56She told me the story about how distressed it was, crying all the time.
15:00Dressed up and paraded around, it's pretty grim.
15:05See, I'm very drawn to parrots.
15:07Yeah.
15:07I mean, you could have them in the background with a mountain lion underneath.
15:10How many animals do you want to put in this?
15:11Well, what you've got to think is this has got to be the voice of the animals.
15:15Yeah, but you've got to be in it as well.
15:17Yeah.
15:17Somewhere there in the background.
15:20Lindsay's got some very strong opinions of what she wants the painting to be about.
15:24She really wants me to get as many animals as possible, which I'm finding it difficult
15:29to correlate with the fact that this is a portrait of her.
15:33There is a danger of it being too on the nose.
15:36If you're writing poetry, you dance around the subject.
15:44Oh.
15:45Here they come.
15:49I'm off.
15:50Oh, my goodness.
15:52Come here.
15:53Hey, look at this one.
15:54Look.
15:56Just sneak off quietly with that bit.
15:58Oh.
15:58Don't go that way.
16:05Do you mind taking to see where Bill is?
16:07I'm going to do a little bit of drawing of you if that's okay.
16:10None of these are going to be the final thing.
16:12I really need to get to know your face.
16:14Okay.
16:15Free creature.
16:19For Ricky, the sitting is not about perfect sketches.
16:22He wants to convey something of Lindsay's passion and dynamism.
16:28It's a weird thing because sometimes you can capture someone in just a few strokes.
16:33Yeah.
16:33And then sometimes it takes a long time.
16:35And what I want to get to is the point that I can draw Lindsay in a hurricane.
16:40Mmm.
16:42You'll bring me home, sweet creature, sweet creature.
16:48When I start the painting, I want to make a mess.
16:51And then I want to tidy up the mess and tidy it into Lindsay.
16:55You don't want to be too inhibited.
16:57You know what I mean?
16:57You don't want to try and be too detailed too early.
17:00Yeah.
17:00And I suppose with portraits, right, it's about getting to know them.
17:03It's almost like a way of looking at her for a long period of time without being freaky.
17:07Yeah.
17:12What's the next stage after this?
17:14I'm going to have to think.
17:15You have to absorb it.
17:17See what direction you're going to go in.
17:20Yeah.
17:20You'll bring me home.
17:28I really love the way she really throws herself into it.
17:31So I've got to do the same.
17:34Which I'm nervous about.
17:36But confidence, Rick.
17:40Okay.
17:40So I've started drawing.
17:44Yeah.
17:44It's like anything.
17:45Starting anything.
17:46The first mark on the page.
17:48The first step of any journey is terrifying.
17:54But I've started, which has given me, you know, no going back now.
18:06I'm sporadically enjoying myself.
18:09I really like the bits where I'm freer and easier.
18:13I don't like the bits that I have to concentrate on.
18:16Because I can see the concentration in the painting.
18:18I'm not that keen on that.
18:22After the sitting in Y, Ricky was presented with a bit of a dilemma.
18:28You know, it's trying to find a balance between a likeness and representing the personality of the sitter.
18:36And that, I think, is the challenge that Ricky's facing you.
18:41Aha.
18:42Hello, Bill.
18:43How you doing?
18:44It's happening.
18:45It is.
18:46That's great.
18:47I've got her, haven't I?
18:48Yeah, definitely.
18:49That bit, I'm happy with.
18:51Right.
18:51And also, I've been using very strange colours.
18:53I know, I can see that.
18:55Yeah.
18:56There's all sorts of blues and yellows and pinks in there.
18:59There is theory behind that.
19:01That bit's good.
19:02There's so much going on in her place.
19:05I wanted to kind of represent that a bit and make it seem quite energetic.
19:09How did it go with the...
19:11Well, as you can see, there aren't many animals in this picture.
19:15No.
19:15In fact, there's none.
19:18Right.
19:18Isn't that what she wants, though?
19:20That's the thing.
19:20It's what she wants.
19:22It's about...
19:22I want it to be all about her.
19:24I don't really want to make this one about the animals.
19:27Mmm.
19:28How do you think she'll react to it?
19:29I am worried about it, obviously.
19:31Mmm.
19:32But I do have a plan.
19:34I'm intrigued now.
19:35I'm intrigued to see how it go, because I haven't actually tried it yet.
19:39I don't want to, you know, put any other pressure on you,
19:42but the reveals are not that far away now.
19:45There's still a bit of work to do, but good luck.
19:49I'll see you at the reveal.
19:50I'll see you at the reveal.
19:51Yeah.
19:51Cheers.
19:54I've got to admit, I feel a bit anxious about this project.
19:58I think the problem is, in some cases, you know,
20:01you have somebody who has a particular interest,
20:03or they have their job or their profession,
20:06and you want to sort of suggest that in a portrait
20:09or suggest some other element of their lives,
20:13because that is sort of the essence of portraiture, in a way.
20:16But in this case, this is Lindsay's life.
20:20Everything about her is about the animals.
20:23So I'm intrigued to see how he kind of figures out a way out of this.
20:30I've, um, finished painting Lindsay.
20:32So I'm going to do images of animals a bit like that,
20:37inspired by the antlers and by Kate Beans.
20:39It's the only way I can think of it.
20:41It won't take away from Lindsay herself.
20:44I don't know, I want her to be the focus.
20:48So, let's hope it doesn't ruin it,
20:50because I'm really happy with it at the moment.
21:00It's finished. It's done.
21:02I kind of can't wait to show it to her.
21:13Ricky may be ready,
21:15but Lindsay is still expecting a painting of animals.
21:18So I'm wondering how today's reveal will go.
21:20Hello, Ricky.
21:22Hello.
21:22How you doing?
21:23I'm really good.
21:24Good. This is the big day.
21:25The big day has come.
21:26And there it is.
21:36For the big reveal,
21:37Lindsay's brought husband Frank,
21:39daughter Catelyn,
21:41Aunt Margaret,
21:42and Aidan Freddie from the rescue centre.
21:48It's lovely, isn't it?
21:49It's beautiful.
21:50It's to you.
21:52Cheers!
21:54Cheers!
21:54Cheers!
21:55Cheers.
21:57So, how are you feeling about all this?
21:59The only worry I have is when she walks in,
22:02her first impression is,
22:03why is it just a picture of me?
22:05Yeah.
22:06Yes.
22:07But, you know, you have to make these decisions,
22:08stick to them.
22:09I find it really odd that I'm going to be on a canvas.
22:12It doesn't matter what animals in it.
22:15The extraordinary thing is Lindsay.
22:16Lindsay.
22:18Yeah.
22:18So, you ready?
22:19You ready?
22:19I'm ready, yeah.
22:20I'm surprisingly ready.
22:22Great.
22:23So, I think they're here.
22:24Yep.
22:24I'll go and get them in,
22:26see you in a sec.
22:26All smiles.
22:27All smiles, yeah.
22:28Team, you've got this.
22:35Hello there.
22:35If you'd like to come this way,
22:37there's a portrait to be revealed.
22:45It certainly all feels very serious.
22:48Lindsay, lovely to see you again.
22:50And how are you feeling today?
22:53I think looking at Ricky, I'm feeling like Ricky,
22:55quite, quite, um, kind of like nervous.
22:59But in a good way.
23:01In a good way, yes.
23:02Getting the combination of who she is
23:05and what she's about,
23:07I think that's a challenge.
23:09It's natural to feel a bit nervous.
23:11Yeah.
23:12I hope that you can see what I see in you.
23:15I mean, I spoke to everyone,
23:16and they all love you dearly,
23:17and I got to know you a little bit,
23:19and I love you dearly,
23:20and I hope you can see that that is something
23:22I wanted to portray in the painting.
23:24No.
23:25Well, that's lovely.
23:27Everyone just take a breath, take a moment,
23:30and I'll let you do the honours.
23:32Here we go.
23:33Thank you very much.
23:43I love it, Rick.
23:45Really do.
23:45Really, really, really.
23:47I think it's amazing.
23:52I feel really humble, proud.
23:55That wasn't ever the intention
23:58for me to be the story.
24:00That was amazing.
24:04It's got movement and wildness,
24:06and I think you've captured that brilliantly.
24:09It wasn't what I was expecting,
24:11but I don't know what I was expecting.
24:14Not an easy task.
24:15I think it's spot on.
24:17No.
24:18When you're all about the animals,
24:19to have it on you must be a really hard thought
24:23to even know where to start to make it about someone
24:25who doesn't want it to be about them.
24:27Yeah.
24:28I think it's amazing.
24:32I think Ricky has put Lindsay at the centre of it all,
24:38which is where she really is.
24:41But if she was going to do something like this,
24:43she'd have put the animals at the centre.
24:47But she is at the centre of the whole thing,
24:50and nothing else would work.
24:52I think it just really does show you're the life of everything around you,
24:59and what you've achieved.
25:01Often in this enterprise there is not a great deal of joy,
25:07or not enough joy,
25:09but when that joy and satisfaction comes,
25:11which you can see in there,
25:14then you sort of realise that the enterprise is worthwhile.
25:21He's produced something so gorgeous that will last forever.
25:26He's so beautifully captured.
25:28I just wish the world would step out of the way of other species.
25:32It hurts me a lot that there's loads of animals out there,
25:35and my drive is that I'm sad every day,
25:38but that makes me motivated every day.
25:40I think everyone can do something slightly different
25:43to make the planet better.
25:44So, yeah, I see hope.
25:50You can see the animals.
25:51Yeah.
25:51It's in there subtly.
25:53Yes, that's all over you and all around you.
25:57That portrait, which I absolutely adore,
26:00I can't say enough about how much I love it.
26:02I just do love it.
26:04I'm so happy about that.
26:07I felt a lot of responsibility,
26:09especially because in one respect it was like,
26:11you know, I've really got to represent you and the Sanctuary so well,
26:15but also by doing something that I knew you didn't really want,
26:18which was to make you front and centre.
26:20But I thought that was the most important thing about this whole project
26:23because you're doing something so special for these animals
26:26that you're their lifeline.
26:31There's a lot going on here around the portrait.
26:35So with that in mind, Ricky and I are going to step out
26:37and invite you to come here and have a closer look.
26:41Come on.
26:43See you in a bit.
26:49And just doing those colours, that's brave, isn't it?
26:52To do those.
26:53It is absolutely incredible.
26:55It is dramatic.
26:56I hadn't got a clue how he was going to get the message across
26:58and he absolutely has.
27:00Yeah.
27:07Hi.
27:08Ricky.
27:09Ricky.
27:09Hi, buddy.
27:10How are you?
27:11I'm good.
27:12How'd it go?
27:13Give me a minute.
27:15It was really good.
27:17They really liked it
27:18and I couldn't really ask for anything more.
27:21Brilliant.
27:21I had some weird feelings going on.
27:23I felt very exposed.
27:25Yeah.
27:26There were two things I wanted to get across,
27:27which was kind of the wildness of it
27:29and the hope of the place that she's created.
27:33And she used both those words.
27:35So are you going to change career now?
27:37Yeah.
27:37Have you got the bug for it?
27:39No, I think I'll stick to prancing around.
27:49What this says to me, this portrait,
27:52is that sometimes, as an artist,
27:55you have to follow your instincts.
27:57You have to pick an idea
28:01and commit to it and stick to it,
28:05even though you might think that the subject
28:09is resistant to that.
28:11And he did that in this portrait.
28:13And he was right to do it.
28:45And he was trying to pick off of it.
28:45And I think that the Lieb,
