Residents along a large stretch of Western Australia’s north-west coast are counting the cost after severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle tore a path of description across several regions. Exmouth bore the brunt of the storm with thousands left without power and damage to the airport leaving the town cut off.

00:13Trees down, roofs off, fences and sheds blown away and just absolute destruction around the place.
00:21Residents thankful no one was seriously injured.
00:24It was really scary, through the middle of the night when it hit like 2am you could start to hear
00:28all the trees cracking.
00:29Most of the town blacked out since the early hours of Friday.
00:33Emergency services starting to assess the extent of damage reports the airport has been largely destroyed, cutting off the town.
00:41They're beginning to clear sections of about a 50km stretch of road that were damaged by cyclone Norell.
00:48Now this is the only route into Exmouth, meaning that currently the only way in or out of town is
00:55via helicopter.
00:56The system passed Exmouth as a Category 4 on Friday, bringing with it destructive winds and heavy rain after making
01:05landfall in Queensland and the Northern Territory.
01:08Our preliminary investigations suggest this is the second longest living system.
01:13Four of Australia's largest gas projects suffered outages and ports in the Pilbara have suspended operations.
01:20As it tracked further south, the skies turned red.

01:28And in Carnarvon, a food bowl of WA, buildings were spared major damage but the crops weren't as lucky.

01:45Over the course of the next couple of days we'll have personnel out there assisting them with assessing that damage
01:53and making it safe.
01:55Extra emergency services are on their way with attention turning to the mammoth clean up ahead.
