00:00:00Records also tell us that during the reign of Charlemagne, there were many accounts of encounters with tyrants of the
00:00:07air and their aerial ships.
00:00:09These accounts so concerned Charlemagne that those reporting such strange phenomena were subject to torture and death.
00:00:17Here is one recorded event given between the 8th and 9th century in France.
00:00:24One day, among other instances, it chanced at Lyon that three men and a woman were seen descending from these
00:00:31aerial ships.
00:00:32The entire city gathered about them, saying that they were magicians sent by Charlemagne's enemy to destroy the French harvest.
00:00:39In vain, the four innocents sought to vindicate themselves, saying that they were their own country folk
00:00:45and had been carried away a short time since by miraculous men who had shown them unheard of marvels.
00:00:51Luckily, the Bishop of Lyon pronounced the incident as false, saying it was not true these men had fallen from
00:00:57the sky
00:00:57and what the townfolks said they had seen there was impossible.
00:01:01The people believed what their good bishop said rather than their own eyes
00:01:04and set at liberty the four ambassadors from the ship.
00:01:08The date was November 12th, the year 1887.
00:01:13The time was near midnight aboard the sailing ship Siberian
00:01:17when it was reported that several people aboard ship witnessed a huge sphere of fire.
00:01:25It was observed arising out of the ocean.
00:01:28It rose to an altitude of 16 meters,
00:01:32then flew against the wind and came close to the ship,
00:01:36then dashed off toward the southeast.
00:01:39This sighting lasted a full five minutes.
00:01:45Within the years 1896 and 97,
00:01:49mysterious airships were reported all across the United States.
00:01:53In Oakland, California, a group of streetcar passengers reported a winged cigar
00:01:58that sent out a stream of bright light.
00:02:00The sighting spread through Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa,
00:02:05and many other states, particularly in the Midwest.
00:02:08On April 11th, 1897,
00:02:11Walter McCann of Rogers Park, a few miles north of Chicago,
00:02:15took a photograph of an airship.
00:02:17The New York Herald, as well as the Chicago Herald Tribune,
00:02:20pronounced the plates as being genuine and not a fake.
00:02:26Dr. Jacques Vallée, international authority on the UFO experience.
00:02:32The first thing I'd like to dispel
00:02:33is a frequent misconception that UFOs are limited to this country.
00:02:38Very often people ask me,
00:02:40how come I never hear about UFOs in other parts of the world?
00:02:43How come we only hear about UFOs in America?
00:02:47Well, UFOs are not an American phenomenon.
00:02:49They are a worldwide phenomenon.
00:02:51That's one of their most dramatic characteristics.
00:02:55The first major wave of sightings,
00:02:58and sightings tend to come in very intense series
00:03:01over a couple of months,
00:03:03over a given region of the world.
00:03:05The first such major wave occurred over Scandinavia in 1946.
00:03:13There was a major wave in this country in 1947,
00:03:16mainly in the Western states.
00:03:18And then there have been waves in the U.S. in 1950,
00:03:221952, and so on.
00:03:24And there have been intense concentrations of sightings
00:03:26in Africa,
00:03:28in Latin America,
00:03:30in Mexico,
00:03:31in the Soviet Union,
00:03:33in the People's Republic of China,
00:03:35Australia, New Zealand, and on and on and on.
00:03:38I don't know of any single country
00:03:40that has not had a series of UFO sightings.
00:03:44May 1975, Manitoba, Canada.
00:03:47Unidentified flying objects have been reported
00:03:50over the small town of Carmen.
00:03:52The objects have been seen by many witnesses
00:03:54over a period of several weeks.
00:03:56May 13th, 1975.
00:03:59Cameraman Alan Carr,
00:04:01of station CKY in Manitoba,
00:04:04photographs two separate sightings over Carmen
00:04:07in front of four witnesses.
00:04:08The first sighting occurs at approximately 10.30 p.m.
00:04:13The object appears to be stationary
00:04:15just above the ground.
00:04:17Then, almost simultaneous,
00:04:19with a flash which appears in the sky,
00:04:21the object moves north at blinding speed.
00:04:25Only when the film is later analyzed in slow motion,
00:04:28does Carr realize what he has captured photographically.
00:04:33Approximately an hour later,
00:04:35a second sighting occurs.
00:04:37The object appears over a group of trees
00:04:40and moves from left to right
00:04:42at an apparently low relative altitude to the horizon.
00:04:46Again, slow motion analysis provides
00:04:49a fascinating study of this unexplained event.
00:04:54On June 30th, 1973,
00:04:57Jean Bégo of the Astrophysical Institute
00:04:59flew over Chad aboard the Concorde
00:05:02packed full of scientists and scientific apparatus.
00:05:05At 17,000 meters altitude,
00:05:08in the twilight of a total eclipse,
00:05:11Mr. Bégo photographed the horizon with his camera.
00:05:19When the photo was enlarged,
00:05:22one of the slides showed what you're now seeing.
00:05:24If you look closely at this photograph,
00:05:26it resembles exactly what has been cited
00:05:29by many Americans during 1973 and 74.
00:05:35Although NASA takes no official position
00:05:38as to the UFO phenomena and their probable explanation,
00:05:41nevertheless, there remains on the record
00:05:43several unexplainable sightings
00:05:45by Gemini, Apollo, and Skylab astronauts.
00:05:48The first sighting occurred during Gemini 4 in June of 1965.
00:05:53Astronaut Jim McDivitt suddenly spotted a cylindrical object
00:05:57with arms and antennae,
00:05:59and when seen against the day sky,
00:06:01it appeared white or silvery.
00:06:03The object then appeared to be moving toward the craft.
00:06:06Suddenly, they lost sight of it.
00:06:08During the sighting,
00:06:09the astronauts were able to take these photographs
00:06:11and movie films of the UFO.
00:06:14Gemini 5, later that year,
00:06:17after three days and five hours into their mission,
00:06:20were contacted by Houston Control Center,
00:06:22advising the astronauts that Houston had picked up
00:06:25and was tracking another object,
00:06:27which was pacing Gemini across the entire United States.
00:06:30They estimated the UFO between 2,000 to 10,000 yards
00:06:35from the craft,
00:06:36and as large as the Gemini craft itself.
00:06:39Because of the limitations of viewing area
00:06:42aboard their capsule,
00:06:43no visual contact was made.
00:06:46Radar continued to track the object
00:06:48until they passed the Ascension Islands in the Atlantic.
00:06:51It then disappeared.
00:06:53Gemini 10 crew, Collins and Young,
00:06:56picked up objects traveling together in orbit.
00:06:58A positive identification has, to date, not been made.
00:07:03This photo was taken during the Gemini 11 flight
00:07:06on the 18th Revolution,
00:07:0727 hours and 47 minutes after liftoff.
00:07:11September 13, 1966.
00:07:14This UFO was tracked visually and recorded on film by the crew
00:07:18and is truly considered unidentified
00:07:21by the photo interpretation experts at NASA.
00:07:25Perhaps the strongest and most spectacular
00:07:27of all the sightings took place aboard Apollo 11
00:07:30on its way to the moon for the first moon landing.
00:07:33The ship was one day out.
00:07:35On July 16, 1969,
00:07:38when they spotted an unusual object,
00:07:41it had a sizable dimension to it.
00:07:43At first, the crew thought it was the Saturn IV booster rocket
00:07:47and called Houston for confirmation.
00:07:49Houston informed them the booster in question
00:07:52was some 6,000 miles away.
00:07:54The object remains unknown.
00:07:57During the Skylab 3 second manned flight
00:08:01on the 23rd day of 1973,
00:08:04at sunrise,
00:08:05a series of four exposures were made by the crew
00:08:08of a visually sighted unidentified flying object,
00:08:11or satellite,
00:08:12as considered by the NASA Photo Interpretation Laboratory.
00:08:15the Skylab crew noticed a large star-shaped object
00:08:19brighter than a planet or star.
00:08:22They watched it for about 10 minutes.
00:08:24They estimated its distance
00:08:26is from 30 to 50 nautical miles from Skylab.
00:08:29It, too, remains an unknown,
00:08:32despite North American air defense
00:08:34and NASA's attempt to identify it.
00:08:36And that it is time that world governments
00:08:39officially acknowledge...
00:08:43Among the thousands of military men in recent times
00:08:46who lost their lives while on the service of their country,
00:08:49the circumstances surrounding Captain Mantell's death
00:08:52are indeed extraordinary.
00:08:54This experienced military pilot
00:08:56who'd flown in the invasion in Normandy
00:08:58in numerous missions over the Ryan under heavy attack
00:09:01would take with him to his death
00:09:03perhaps the closest glimpse
00:09:06of what was thought to be a UFO.
00:09:09The date is January the 7th, 1948.
00:09:13The time is 2 o'clock in the afternoon
00:09:15here at the Gardner and Air Force Base
00:09:18just outside of Louisville, Kentucky.
00:09:21A Kentucky state policeman calls in
00:09:24to report what he has sighted.
00:09:26It's an unusual aircraft.
00:09:28Circular in appearance.
00:09:31Approximately 250 to 300 feet in diameter.
00:09:35I'd say it's moving westwardly at a pretty good clip.
00:09:37Any information?
00:09:38Negative.
00:09:39I will check with our commanding officer.
00:09:42Instructions were given to contact nearby Wright-Patterson Air Base
00:09:46to see if they had any experimental aircraft up in that area.
00:09:50Flight test.
00:09:51We have no experimental aircraft in the area.
00:09:53The reports still continue to come in from adjoining towns.
00:09:57At 1.45 p.m., it happens.
00:10:02It's very white and looks like an umbrella.
00:10:05I don't know what it is.
00:10:07Through the binocs, it appears to have a red border at the bottom at times
00:10:11and a red border at the top at times.
00:10:13At approximately 2.30 p.m., a flight of Air Force P-51s come into view.
00:10:19The base commander decides to contact the flight leader, Captain Mantell.
00:10:25This is Godman, base commander.
00:10:27Roger, Godman Tower.
00:10:28This is NG-869, flight leader.
00:10:31NG-869 from Godman Tower.
00:10:34We have an object out south of Godman here that we were unable to identify.
00:10:38We'd like you to take a look for it.
00:10:39Roger, I will take a look for you if you give me the correct reading.
00:10:43Mantell moves ahead of its wingmen.
00:10:45The tower advises the flight leader to correct his course 5 degrees to the left
00:10:49to 210 degrees from Godman Tower.
00:10:53Godman Tower, this is flight leader NG-869, Captain Mantell.
00:10:58Object traveling at half my speed and directly ahead of me and above.
00:11:03And I'm closing in to take a good look.
00:11:05Can you give us a description?
00:11:08Here's the challenge, and to be of tremendous sight, I'm going to 20,000 feet.
00:11:13The other pilots level off under 15,000 feet and start down.
00:11:18At approximately 3.15 p.m., Godman Tower loses sight of the UFO.
00:11:25Five minutes later, the report came in that Captain Mantell's plane had crashed.
00:11:30He was found dead.
00:11:31His watch had stopped at 3.10 p.m. that afternoon.
00:11:36What was it that caused this experienced pilot to become intrigued with an object
00:11:41that he would unwittingly give his life pursuing?
00:11:47Six months later, a cylindrical-shaped object giving off a phosphorescent glow
00:11:52was to be sighted in the night sky over Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia.
00:11:56At 2.45 a.m., Captain C.S. Childs and First Officer J.B. Whitted
00:12:01were piloting a routine Eastern Airlines flight number 576 from Houston to Atlanta
00:12:07when Whitted reports, we sighted an object coming toward us.
00:12:11This strange object had a stream of red fire coming from its tail,
00:12:16and I could see it was much larger than anything I had seen or read about.
00:12:20Childs then notices that the object had no wings supporting it.
00:12:24It passed us on the right side.
00:12:26Its speed was about 700 miles per hour.
00:12:29And both men get a very good look at this unusual object.
00:12:33It was about 100 feet long, shaped like a cigar.
00:12:37As it passed, they clearly saw two rows of windows,
00:12:40an upper and lower, that were large and square.
00:12:43During that evening, there was a third witness,
00:12:46the one passenger who was awake on that Eastern Airlines flight,
00:12:50Clarence McKelvey.
00:12:51I was startled, frightened.
00:12:55A male steward came to me and said,
00:12:58I notice you've been looking out the window.
00:13:00Will you talk to the pilot?
00:13:01And I said, well, of course.
00:13:03The pilot came down with his clipboard.
00:13:06He was visibly shaken.
00:13:08He told me that he had been a flyer in the war
00:13:11and had covered so many million miles of flight
00:13:15and had never seen anything like this before.
00:13:17What was it that I saw?
00:13:19I saw this object.
00:13:21It was cigar-shaped.
00:13:22It had a row of windows.
00:13:25Behind them, it was lit.
00:13:27Out of the rear was a cherry-red flame.
00:13:31This hair-raising experience was witnessed by three aircraft,
00:13:36a passenger, and ground observers added more corroboration.
00:13:40The conclusion of an air intelligence report
00:13:42was that the object remains unidentified
00:13:44as to origin, construction, and power source
00:13:47and goes into the record classified as unknown.
00:13:52This is the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
00:13:57And this man is Colonel Bill Coleman.
00:13:59He was chief of public information for the United States Air Force
00:14:02from 1969 to 1974.
00:14:06It was here at the Pentagon that the Defense Department
00:14:09first became interested in the UFO phenomenon.
00:14:11This occurred in the late 1940s
00:14:14with reports about objects and lights seen in the sky
00:14:17by military personnel and others.
00:14:19The Air Force decided to investigate the matter anyway.
00:14:23There was that one possibility that these flying objects
00:14:25could well be foreign weapons
00:14:27used for test purposes
00:14:29and might affect our national security.
00:14:34The investigative branch was called Project Sign.
00:14:37The project had only been underway for about two weeks
00:14:39when the Mantell crash had made headlines across the nation.
00:14:44The staff's investigation was far from complete,
00:14:46but public pressure was enormous.
00:14:48They were forced to come up with an answer
00:14:51to really quiet, growing speculation
00:14:53that Mantell had been killed
00:14:54by hostile aliens and some flying saucer.
00:14:58That's when we decided
00:14:59that Mantell had chased the planet Venus.
00:15:02However, this was an initial finding.
00:15:04The Chills and Whitted case
00:15:06had an impact on the Air Force project.
00:15:08It presented the first close-up account
00:15:10by highly reliable witnesses.
00:15:12The object described led some of the staff
00:15:15to postulate an extraterrestrial theory.
00:15:18And they wrote up an estimate of the situation,
00:15:20which at the time was classified top secret,
00:15:24suggesting that the saucers were from outer space.
00:15:28This theory was rejected
00:15:30by the Air Force Chief of Staff,
00:15:31General Hoyt Vandenberg,
00:15:32and even other Project Sign staff members,
00:15:35as not having enough proof.
00:15:37So the extraterrestrial visitation idea
00:15:39was dropped for the time being.
00:15:43It's been said in jest
00:15:44that if these UFOs are from other worlds
00:15:47and they wanted it to be known,
00:15:49all they'd have to do
00:15:49is land on the White House lawn.
00:15:52But an incredible incident
00:15:53too quickly forgotten in time
00:15:55took place over our Capitol.
00:15:57In 1952, Air Force spokesman
00:16:00for the Pentagon and UFOs at that time,
00:16:03Mr. Hal Chopp,
00:16:04relates the famous incident
00:16:05that stirred the Capitol,
00:16:07causing a request from even President Truman
00:16:09to be kept up to date
00:16:11on all the details.
00:16:13There were radar reports
00:16:15of unidentified flying objects
00:16:17over the nation's Capitol.
00:16:19We had three reports.
00:16:21One came from Andrews Air Force Base
00:16:23radar control room
00:16:25and two from the radar controls
00:16:27at Washington National Airport.
00:16:30The first sightings consisted
00:16:32of a number of unidentified targets
00:16:34picked up on radar.
00:16:35Then a call was placed
00:16:37from National
00:16:38to the Andrews Air Force Base
00:16:41flight controllers.
00:16:42They were apparently tracking
00:16:43the same targets.
00:16:45Then Andrews reported
00:16:47a visual observation
00:16:48of three objects
00:16:49that were apparently
00:16:51in the same position
00:16:52as those indicated
00:16:54by our radar sets.
00:16:56The targets stayed on radar
00:16:58until about 12.30 a.m.
00:17:01They moved slowly at first,
00:17:03about 100 to 200 miles per hour.
00:17:05Then one of the targets
00:17:07sped away at a fantastic rate of speed.
00:17:11It moved west
00:17:12from Andrews toward Riverdale.
00:17:16The estimated speed
00:17:17was 7,300 miles per hour.
00:17:20At this time
00:17:22in the tower
00:17:24we had about seven targets
00:17:26on the radar scope.
00:17:28These unidentified objects
00:17:30were flying all over the city.
00:17:32They even violated
00:17:33the restricted air corridors
00:17:35here over the White House
00:17:37and over the Capitol building.
00:17:39The phenomena wasn't to subside.
00:17:41The following Saturday night,
00:17:43July 26th,
00:17:44a repeat performance
00:17:46unsettles the Capitol again.
00:17:47I was awakened
00:17:49the following Saturday night
00:17:50around midnight
00:17:51by a telephone call
00:17:53to my home in Virginia.
00:17:54It was the public information officer
00:17:57for the Federal Aviation Authority.
00:17:59He told me
00:18:00the air traffic control radars
00:18:03were again picking up
00:18:04a large number of UFOs
00:18:06over the Capitol area.
00:18:07First they would follow
00:18:09a definite flight path
00:18:10and then they would
00:18:11suddenly disappear.
00:18:12Others would come into view
00:18:14just as suddenly.
00:18:15I placed a phone call
00:18:17to the command post
00:18:18in the Pentagon
00:18:19and I asked for an intercept.
00:18:22About 2.40 a.m.
00:18:24we got a radio call
00:18:26from a flight of the F-94s.
00:18:29Two aircraft in the flight.
00:18:31They also,
00:18:32at about that moment,
00:18:33appeared on our scope.
00:18:35And at that moment,
00:18:36a very frightening thing
00:18:38happened to us.
00:18:39All of our unknown traffic
00:18:42completely disappeared
00:18:43the moment those aircraft
00:18:44came on the scope.
00:18:46The flight leader called in
00:18:47and said,
00:18:48well, it doesn't look like
00:18:49we're going to do any good here,
00:18:50so we're going to go back to base.
00:18:52And at the very moment
00:18:54those aircraft disappeared,
00:18:56all of our unknown traffic
00:18:58appeared again on our scope.
00:19:00And again,
00:19:01it was a very frightening experience.
00:19:03We called Andrews Air Force Base
00:19:05and they reported
00:19:06exactly the same thing
00:19:08happened to their scope.
00:19:10At 10 a.m.
00:19:11on the morning
00:19:11after the sighting,
00:19:13General Landry,
00:19:14at the request of President Truman,
00:19:16called intelligence
00:19:16to find out
00:19:17what was happening
00:19:18over Washington.
00:19:19It was the largest
00:19:20and longest press conference
00:19:22held in the Pentagon
00:19:23since World War II.
00:19:26General Samford
00:19:27headed the conference
00:19:28and said that he was
00:19:29personally satisfied
00:19:30that the radar scope sightings
00:19:31were the result
00:19:32of temperature inversions,
00:19:33which are known
00:19:34and account for certain blips
00:19:36on radar.
00:19:37Although this was the conclusion
00:19:39of the Air Force investigations,
00:19:41interestingly enough,
00:19:42the actual report
00:19:43begins with this opening comment,
00:19:46a study of the various reports
00:19:48regarding the subject.
00:19:49Radar sightings do not allow
00:19:51a positive and final explanation
00:19:53to be made.
00:19:56The CIA now would enter the picture
00:19:58by convening a panel
00:20:00of top scientists
00:20:01to examine the UFO phenomenon.
00:20:03The CIA's concern was
00:20:06that recent waves of sightings
00:20:07might constitute a threat
00:20:09to our national security.
00:20:10The thinking was
00:20:11that the enemy
00:20:12could exploit UFOs
00:20:14as a decoy
00:20:15in the preparation
00:20:16for an attack
00:20:16on the United States.
00:20:18Five outstanding scientists
00:20:20and various Air Force
00:20:21and CIA representatives
00:20:23were to meet on Wednesday,
00:20:24January 14, 1953.
00:20:26Among the panel members
00:20:28was one associate member
00:20:29who was destined
00:20:30to have more experience
00:20:31with the UFO phenomena
00:20:32than any other American scientist
00:20:34to date.
00:20:35Dr. J. Allen Hynek,
00:20:37astrophysicist
00:20:38and head of the Astronomy Department
00:20:39of Northwestern University.
00:20:43I was called into the meeting
00:20:45on Thursday.
00:20:46The panel members
00:20:48were seated
00:20:48around this table.
00:20:50It was a rather somber
00:20:52and impressive occasion,
00:20:53actually.
00:20:55I was a junior member
00:20:56and I remember feeling
00:20:57considerably nervous
00:20:59and apprehensive
00:21:00about being in front
00:21:01of this powerhouse
00:21:02of scientists.
00:21:03But then for the past four years
00:21:05I had been scientific advisor
00:21:07to the U.S. Air Force
00:21:08on this very problem.
00:21:10There were two films
00:21:11that were of particular interest
00:21:13to the panel at that time.
00:21:16One was a film taken
00:21:17by a Navy officer
00:21:19while on vacation in Utah,
00:21:21near Tremont in Utah.
00:21:22And the other was a film
00:21:23taken in Great Falls, Montana
00:21:26by the owner
00:21:27of the local baseball team.
00:21:29The Utah film
00:21:31had already been subjected
00:21:32to some thousand
00:21:33or so man hours
00:21:35of analysis
00:21:35by the Navy's
00:21:37Photographic Interpretation Laboratory.
00:21:45The panel
00:21:47got up in their chairs
00:21:48and crouched around
00:21:49the walls
00:21:50to examine the films
00:21:51and they asked
00:21:51to have the films run
00:21:52several times
00:21:53as a matter of fact.
00:21:55Now the Navy
00:21:56had on the basis
00:21:57of their detailed analysis
00:21:59of the Utah films
00:22:01they had concluded
00:22:02that the objects
00:22:03shown in the films
00:22:04could not be
00:22:05birds, balloons,
00:22:06aircraft and so forth
00:22:07but indeed
00:22:07that they were
00:22:08self-luminous
00:22:09unidentified objects.
00:22:13Despite this conclusion
00:22:15the panel rejected it
00:22:17and concluded
00:22:18that the objects
00:22:19were birds.
00:22:20They couldn't be unidentified
00:22:21therefore they had
00:22:22to be birds.
00:22:25I came away
00:22:27from the meeting
00:22:28and from the room
00:22:29with the distinct feeling
00:22:30however
00:22:31that the panel
00:22:33had deliberately
00:22:34moved to debunk
00:22:36the whole subject
00:22:37and not to give it
00:22:39the serious
00:22:41scientific attention
00:22:42which it deserved.
00:22:46It seems the CIA
00:22:48was to become
00:22:49involved in the UFO
00:22:50phenomena again
00:22:51in a most unusual way.
00:22:54A series of episodes
00:22:55were to take place
00:22:57that up until
00:22:57the airing of this program
00:22:59were not public knowledge.
00:23:01The events
00:23:01were so bizarre
00:23:02that it's hard
00:23:03to conceive
00:23:04they happened
00:23:05to individuals
00:23:05associated with
00:23:06such no-nonsense
00:23:07organizations
00:23:08as the Office
00:23:09of Naval Intelligence
00:23:10and the CIA.
00:23:12This man is retired
00:23:13Lieutenant Colonel
00:23:14Robert Friend
00:23:15U.S. Air Force
00:23:16and former head
00:23:17of Project Blue Book.
00:23:19Friend now
00:23:20on the management
00:23:20staff of
00:23:21Celesco Industries
00:23:22Incorporated
00:23:23which builds
00:23:24and launches missiles
00:23:25for defense
00:23:26testing purposes.
00:23:28Friend now relates
00:23:29this most unusual
00:23:30experience.
00:23:31It was 1959
00:23:32when I was invited
00:23:33to attend the
00:23:34briefing and security
00:23:35portion of this building.
00:23:37It seems a retired
00:23:38rear admiral
00:23:39had introduced
00:23:40and that it is
00:23:40time that world
00:23:41governments
00:23:42officially acknowledged
00:23:43the
00:24:10her education
00:24:11could not possibly
00:24:12know the answers
00:24:13to.
00:24:14Yet,
00:24:15as the questions
00:24:16were put to her,
00:24:17she was able
00:24:17to answer easily
00:24:18with seeming
00:24:19telepathic help
00:24:20from these
00:24:21purported
00:24:22extraterrestrials.
00:24:24According to the report,
00:24:25she indicated
00:24:26there was an
00:24:26organization,
00:24:28OEEV,
00:24:29which meant
00:24:30Universal Association
00:24:31of Planets,
00:24:32and that organization
00:24:33had a project,
00:24:35UENSA,
00:24:35meaning Earth,
00:24:36which was being
00:24:38conducted.
00:24:39Then an unexpected
00:24:40turn took place.
00:24:41One of the naval
00:24:42officers was
00:24:43informed by the
00:24:44woman that they,
00:24:45the extraterrestrials,
00:24:47were willing to
00:24:47answer questions
00:24:48directly through him,
00:24:49a naval commander
00:24:50and intelligence
00:24:51officer with no
00:24:52prior experience
00:24:53in telepathic
00:24:54communication.
00:24:56He took over
00:24:57and attempted
00:24:58to write down
00:24:59the answers
00:24:59to questions
00:25:00put to him
00:25:01by his fellow
00:25:01naval officer.
00:25:02The word
00:25:03traveled back
00:25:04quickly to
00:25:05Washington
00:25:05officials
00:25:06and the
00:25:06very skeptical
00:25:07CIA.
00:25:08Nevertheless,
00:25:09there was no
00:25:10reason to
00:25:10totally disbelieve
00:25:11the report
00:25:12of this highly
00:25:13respected Navy
00:25:13commander.
00:25:15Questions were
00:25:15put to him
00:25:16such as,
00:25:17do you favor
00:25:18the government,
00:25:20religious group,
00:25:21or race,
00:25:22and would there
00:25:23be a third
00:25:23world war?
00:25:24The answer
00:25:25to both
00:25:25was no.
00:25:27The group
00:25:28then asked
00:25:29if they could
00:25:30see a spaceship
00:25:31and the commander
00:25:32still in a trance
00:25:34told them
00:25:34to go to the
00:25:35window and
00:25:36they would have
00:25:37proof.
00:25:38The group
00:25:38moved to the
00:25:39window where
00:25:40they supposedly
00:25:40observed a UFO.
00:25:42I was told
00:25:43that a call
00:25:44was made
00:25:44for radar
00:25:45confirmation.
00:25:46The reply
00:25:47came back
00:25:48that that
00:25:49particular
00:25:49quadrant of the
00:25:50area was
00:25:51blanked out
00:25:51on radar
00:25:52at the time.
00:25:53After being
00:25:54briefed on
00:25:55all of the
00:25:55details,
00:25:56I asked the
00:25:57commander if
00:25:57he would
00:25:57attempt a
00:25:58contact for
00:25:59me.
00:26:00He sat
00:26:01for several
00:26:01minutes and
00:26:02then appeared
00:26:03in the deep
00:26:04trance with
00:26:05his Adam's
00:26:05apple moving
00:26:06up and down
00:26:06rapidly.
00:26:08Questions were
00:26:09put to him
00:26:10and he answered
00:26:11them by printing
00:26:12in rather large
00:26:14letters using
00:26:15rapid but jerky
00:26:16motions.
00:26:17It wasn't at
00:26:18all like his
00:26:19natural hand.
00:26:21During the
00:26:22course of the
00:26:22questioning,
00:26:23we learned the
00:26:24names of some
00:26:25of the so-called
00:26:25extraterrestrials.
00:26:26one was
00:26:27Krill,
00:26:28C-R-L-L-L,
00:26:30another Alomar,
00:26:32A-L-O-M-A-R,
00:26:36and another
00:26:36AFA,
00:26:37A-F-F-A,
00:26:40purportedly
00:26:41from the
00:26:42planet Uranus.
00:26:43A case that
00:26:44just as well
00:26:44could have been
00:26:45written by a
00:26:46very imaginative
00:26:46science fiction
00:26:47writer.
00:26:48But here in
00:26:49my hand is
00:26:50the actual
00:26:50account of
00:26:51the incident
00:26:51by one of
00:26:52the agents
00:26:52present at
00:26:52that time.
00:26:53The names
00:26:54of seven men
00:26:55present are
00:26:56listed here.
00:26:57Because of the
00:26:58unusual nature
00:26:59of the incident
00:27:00and at their
00:27:00request, their
00:27:02names will remain
00:27:02confidential.
00:27:04Another reason
00:27:05for control of
00:27:06the Blue Book
00:27:06files was to
00:27:07protect the
00:27:08names of
00:27:08witnesses.
00:27:09To help
00:27:10satisfy public
00:27:11demand,
00:27:11periodic summary
00:27:12releases were
00:27:13made.
00:27:13We had no
00:27:14proof that we
00:27:15were indeed
00:27:16being visited
00:27:16by extraterrestrial
00:27:18vehicles under
00:27:19intelligent control.
00:27:20However, we
00:27:21couldn't prove
00:27:21that there weren't
00:27:22spaceships either.
00:27:23It created a
00:27:24dilemma for the
00:27:25Air Force.
00:27:27In 1966, an
00:27:29important incident
00:27:30takes place in
00:27:31Michigan.
00:27:32It creates
00:27:32enough of an
00:27:33uproar that
00:27:34President Gerald
00:27:35Ford would at
00:27:36that time call
00:27:37for a congressional
00:27:37hearing on UFOs.
00:27:40Here are excerpts
00:27:41from Ford's actual
00:27:42letter to the
00:27:42House Armed
00:27:43Services Committee.
00:27:44The Air Force
00:27:45sent a consultant,
00:27:47Dr. J.
00:27:47Allen Hynek, to
00:27:48investigate various
00:27:49reports, and he
00:27:51dismissed all of
00:27:51them as products of
00:27:52college student
00:27:53pranks, or swamp
00:27:54gas, or an
00:27:56impression created by
00:27:57the rising crescent
00:27:58moon and the
00:27:58planet Venus.
00:27:59I do not agree
00:28:01that all of these
00:28:01reports can be or
00:28:03should be so easily
00:28:04explained away.
00:28:05I am proposing
00:28:07that the Science and
00:28:08Astronautics Committee,
00:28:09or the Armed
00:28:10Services Committee of
00:28:11the House, schedule
00:28:12hearings on the
00:28:13subject of UFOs, and
00:28:15invite testimony from
00:28:16both the executive
00:28:17branch of government
00:28:18and some persons who
00:28:19claim to have seen
00:28:20UFOs.
00:28:21I think we owe it to
00:28:22the people to
00:28:23establish credibility
00:28:24regarding UFOs.
00:28:26Sincerely, Gerald R.
00:28:28Ford, Member of
00:28:30Congress.
00:28:31Congress acts on
00:28:33Ford's letter and
00:28:34holds an open hearing
00:28:35under the
00:28:35chairmanship of L.
00:28:36Mendel Rivers of the
00:28:38House Armed
00:28:38Services Committee.
00:28:39Only three persons
00:28:41are invited to
00:28:41testify.
00:28:43The Secretary of the
00:28:44Air Force, Dr. J.
00:28:45Allen Hynek, and
00:28:47Project Blue Book
00:28:48Head at the time,
00:28:49Colonel Hector
00:28:50Quintanilla.
00:28:51Hector Quintanilla
00:28:52relates the events
00:28:53and reports of the
00:28:54unusual sighting that
00:28:56led up to the
00:28:56Congressional hearing.
00:28:57There were two
00:28:58sightings, one at
00:29:00Hillsdale and the
00:29:01other one here at
00:29:01Dexter.
00:29:03Based upon the
00:29:04original reports from
00:29:05the Sheriff's
00:29:06Department, it all
00:29:07began at 8.35 p.m.
00:29:09on March 20th, when
00:29:11Frank Manor, who
00:29:12used to live over
00:29:13there, reported to
00:29:14the Sheriff's
00:29:15Office that he had
00:29:17seen a strange
00:29:17object in the
00:29:18swamp over there.
00:29:21According to the
00:29:22police report, the
00:29:24police officer and
00:29:25company with the
00:29:25complainant proceeded
00:29:28along territorial road
00:29:29until they reached
00:29:30Brant Road, at which
00:29:31time the turn left
00:29:33proceeded to the end
00:29:34of the road, secured
00:29:36their vehicle, got
00:29:38out of the
00:29:38automobile, proceeded
00:29:40along the cornfield
00:29:41keeping the trees
00:29:42lined to their
00:29:43left.
00:29:45Then they crossed an
00:29:46open field to the
00:29:47creek.
00:29:47They crossed the
00:29:48creek and reached
00:29:49this point, which
00:29:51was their vantage
00:29:51point, and observed
00:29:53the object.
00:29:54Frank Manor
00:29:55described the
00:29:56object as brown
00:29:58in color, quilted
00:30:00with a porthole in
00:30:02the center, sort of
00:30:04flat on the bottom,
00:30:05cone-shaped towards
00:30:06the top, two small
00:30:08lights, one at each
00:30:09in, one glowing
00:30:11bluish-green, the
00:30:12other one a brilliant
00:30:13red, with a glow at
00:30:15the bottom.
00:30:16Well, of course, by
00:30:17the time I arrived,
00:30:18the situation was so
00:30:20charged with emotion
00:30:21that it was impossible
00:30:23for me to do any
00:30:24really serious
00:30:24investigating.
00:30:25I had to fight my
00:30:27way through reporters
00:30:28to interview the
00:30:29witnesses.
00:30:29other sightings
00:30:30were reported over
00:30:31the area, and a
00:30:33solution from Dr.
00:30:34Hynek and Major
00:30:35Quintanella seemed
00:30:36in the offing.
00:30:37Well, the pressure
00:30:38was mounting for an
00:30:39official explanation.
00:30:41There were more
00:30:42than 60 newsmen
00:30:42jammed in at that
00:30:43news conference.
00:30:45I gave what I
00:30:46thought to be at
00:30:46that time the only
00:30:47scientific explanation
00:30:49possible for the
00:30:50faint lights in the
00:30:51swampy area.
00:30:53I made the
00:30:54statement that it
00:30:54could be swamp
00:30:55gas, and even
00:30:56though I went on
00:30:57to emphasize that I
00:30:58couldn't prove it
00:30:59in a court of law
00:31:00that that was the
00:31:01full explanation for
00:31:02these sightings.
00:31:03Well, the press
00:31:05picked up the phrase
00:31:05swamp gas, and rushed
00:31:08off to the telephones,
00:31:10and I was to come
00:31:11into a great deal of
00:31:12criticism over it.
00:31:13What was the outcome
00:31:14of that congressional
00:31:15hearing?
00:31:16I believe the Air Force
00:31:18presented its sight quite
00:31:19openly and completely.
00:31:21It seemed to satisfy
00:31:22the members of the
00:31:23committee.
00:31:26Now a remarkable
00:31:27observation is to be
00:31:29recorded.
00:31:30If the facts are
00:31:31correct, the Air Force
00:31:32must now consider the
00:31:33possibility of beings
00:31:35related to UFOs.
00:31:36It happened in
00:31:38Socorro, New Mexico,
00:31:40here just outside of
00:31:41this quiet desert town.
00:31:43A state highway patrol
00:31:45officer, Lonnie Zamora,
00:31:47was on duty as he had
00:31:48been for the past
00:31:49several years.
00:31:50A black Chevrolet was
00:31:52observed, speeding by
00:31:54the courthouse.
00:31:55Zamora put his highway
00:31:56patrol car into pursuit.
00:31:59Lonnie chased the car
00:32:00north on US-85.
00:32:03As he passed this
00:32:04hilly area, Zamora
00:32:06heard a roar and
00:32:08something caught his
00:32:08attention.
00:32:10Ten or fifteen seconds
00:32:12pass.
00:32:13Lonnie then calls in
00:32:15to the sheriff's office.
00:32:17The time was about
00:32:185.45, I recall,
00:32:20and he said, uh,
00:32:22support to 10.44,
00:32:24an accident.
00:32:26And then he said,
00:32:27I'll be 10.6 out of
00:32:28the car, which meant
00:32:29that I was going to be
00:32:32investigating a
00:32:33possible accident.
00:32:35And I went up this,
00:32:36uh, road, uh, about
00:32:39a half a mile, and
00:32:40then I stopped my car
00:32:41and I got out and
00:32:42looked up, and I could
00:32:44see a white, uh,
00:32:46looking object in the
00:32:48distance.
00:32:49I thought it was an
00:32:50overturned car at first,
00:32:51uh, but I got into my
00:32:52patrol car and went up
00:32:53closer to it, and, uh,
00:32:55when I started to get
00:32:56out of the car, I
00:32:57could, uh, I heard a
00:32:58big roar.
00:33:00As I got to it, I
00:33:02could see, uh, a couple
00:33:04of, uh, looked like a
00:33:05couple of, uh, coveralls,
00:33:06uh, hanging from a
00:33:08clothesline.
00:33:09I couldn't see what it
00:33:10was, but it looked like
00:33:11a couple of coveralls.
00:33:12Samora called in, uh,
00:33:14he sounded very excited.
00:33:15He said he watched an
00:33:17object, uh, lift up
00:33:18slowly and disappeared
00:33:19into the, uh, sky very
00:33:21fast.
00:33:22I went down to, uh,
00:33:23where the object had
00:33:24been, and I noticed, uh,
00:33:26brush was burning in
00:33:27several places.
00:33:28The, uh, object had
00:33:30left four perpendicular
00:33:31impressions on the ground.
00:33:33I noticed, uh, several
00:33:35bushes were smoldering, but
00:33:36they felt cold to the
00:33:37touch.
00:33:38I noticed what appeared
00:33:40to be, uh, a couple of
00:33:42oval, uh, footprints on the
00:33:44ground.
00:33:45I knew Lonnie had seen
00:33:46something.
00:33:47The proof was right
00:33:54there.
00:33:56The incident was very
00:33:58interesting, to say the
00:33:58least.
00:33:59It seems to differ from
00:34:01practically all the
00:34:02earlier cases we
00:34:03investigated from one
00:34:05standpoint.
00:34:05The vehicle had left
00:34:07pod marks.
00:34:08There was an insignia
00:34:10observed by Lonnie
00:34:11Zamora on the side of
00:34:12the craft.
00:34:13The insignia was
00:34:15unidentifiable, not
00:34:17American, nor Russian.
00:34:18And last of all, the
00:34:21observation of these two
00:34:22people in some sort of
00:34:24suit.
00:34:24But what did the
00:34:25investigation turn up?
00:34:27What was the official
00:34:29Air Force estimation of
00:34:30the situation?
00:34:31We went over the case
00:34:32completely.
00:34:33We had saw samples
00:34:34tested at the Air
00:34:35Materials Laboratory.
00:34:37The burnt bushes were
00:34:38analyzed for propellant
00:34:39residue.
00:34:40We measured the
00:34:41distances between the
00:34:42pod marks.
00:34:43My first reaction was
00:34:45that it was a lunar test
00:34:46monitor from the
00:34:47NASA or the Air Force.
00:34:48That seemed to be the
00:34:50only logical explanation.
00:34:51This was probably the
00:34:53best documented case in
00:34:54the Air Force files, and
00:34:56I checked it out
00:34:56everywhere, all the way
00:34:58up to the top, even to
00:34:59the White House command
00:35:00post, and nothing.
00:35:02According to the
00:35:03official status of the
00:35:05sighting of Lonnie
00:35:06Zamora, case carried as
00:35:08unidentified, pending
00:35:10additional data.
00:35:13April 19th, 1897, in Leroy,
00:35:17Kansas, a farmer named
00:35:19Alexander Hamilton, his son,
00:35:21and a farmhand are awakened
00:35:24by strange noises from the
00:35:25cattle pen.
00:35:27Going outside, they
00:35:28discovered, through Hamilton's
00:35:30utter amazement, an enormous
00:35:32airship with a brilliant
00:35:34searchlight is slowly
00:35:36descending over the cow lot.
00:35:39Fearfully, Hamilton moves
00:35:41closer, and is startled to
00:35:43find that one of his cows
00:35:44has been caught by a red
00:35:46cable running down from the
00:35:47ship.
00:35:48The next day, after an
00:35:50extensive search, he
00:35:51discovers the cow's hide,
00:35:54legs, and head in a field
00:35:57miles away.
00:35:59This is one of the first
00:36:00recorded cattle mutilations
00:36:02connected with UFOs.
00:36:04The report could easily be
00:36:06dismissed as a tall tale
00:36:07if there were no others.
00:36:09But since then, thousands of
00:36:12bizarre animal mutilations
00:36:13have been discovered, not only
00:36:15in this country, but in
00:36:17Africa, Australia, Brazil, and
00:36:20many European countries, in
00:36:22fact, all over the world.
00:36:27In this country, mutilations
00:36:29have occurred in over 30
00:36:30states in the last five
00:36:31years alone.
00:36:33Frustrated ranchers and
00:36:34law enforcement officials
00:36:35have come to recognize the
00:36:36classic signature of the
00:36:38mysterious mutilators.
00:36:40Often, in a remote area, a
00:36:43cow will be found dead, the
00:36:45sex organs removed, and the
00:36:47tongue, an ear, and an eye,
00:36:49all surgically cut out.
00:36:52The body, more often than not,
00:36:53has been drained of blood,
00:36:55though no blood has been
00:36:56found on the ground.
00:36:58In fact, there are no
00:36:59tracks or prints of any kind
00:37:01near the body.
00:37:02And yet, amazingly enough,
00:37:04there is no evidence of a
00:37:06struggle.
00:37:09One of the first states to be
00:37:11hit by the mutilations was
00:37:13Colorado.
00:37:14Reporter Bill Jackson of the
00:37:16Sterling Advocate covered the
00:37:18story from the very beginning.
00:37:19A classic mutilation or, say,
00:37:2390 to 95 percent of the
00:37:25mutilations will be almost
00:37:26identical.
00:37:27Some part of the face will be
00:37:29gone, exposing nothing but,
00:37:32you know, the jawbone.
00:37:34An eye will be taken, the tongue
00:37:36will be cut out, and an ear will
00:37:38be taken.
00:37:39The rectal area of the animal will
00:37:41be what appears to be bored out.
00:37:43The reproductive organs will be
00:37:45removed.
00:37:45In the case of a cow, the udder
00:37:47will either be entirely removed
00:37:49or parts of it will be removed.
00:37:53Usually, and again, in probably
00:37:5590 or 95 percent of the cases,
00:37:57there will be no blood whatsoever
00:37:59in the animal.
00:38:00And there will be no traces of
00:38:01blood on the ground where it
00:38:03fell or where it was mutilated.
00:38:05All you've got is the carcass,
00:38:07and you've got no idea why it
00:38:08died or how it died or how it
00:38:10was mutilated.
00:38:13It all began in 1975.
00:38:16It was a bizarre time.
00:38:19Nobody had ever seen anything
00:38:19like this before.
00:38:21Not only did we have the
00:38:22mutilated dead animals on the
00:38:24prairie, but we also started
00:38:25getting the lights in the sky
00:38:27at night.
00:38:28Along that time, there were
00:38:29many theories that were being
00:38:30developed on why this was being
00:38:31done.
00:38:32The satanic cults were being
00:38:33blamed.
00:38:34Dope smugglers, UFOs, government
00:38:36experiment of some kind.
00:38:39As time went on, the situation
00:38:41became so widespread that...
00:38:43And that it is time that world
00:38:44governments officially
00:38:48acknowledged...
00:38:49...the old cult or the
00:38:51dope smugglers, which left us
00:38:52two possibilities.
00:38:54Number one, it was being done by
00:38:55a government, let's say.
00:38:57Or number two, it was being done
00:38:58by UFOs.
00:39:01As more and more cases were
00:39:02reported, the Colorado Bureau of
00:39:05Investigation was called in.
00:39:07Well, our position is basically
00:39:09one of where predators, at least
00:39:14our investigation determined the
00:39:16predators were responsible for
00:39:17probably 99% of the reports of
00:39:22mutilations.
00:39:24As I said, there were 203 separate
00:39:27reports received from this agency.
00:39:29But of the 203, we only received
00:39:3245 tissue samples to conduct
00:39:35microscopic analysis on.
00:39:38Of the 45 tissue samples, we found
00:39:42that only two of those 45 had
00:39:45actually been mutilated with a
00:39:47sharp estimate.
00:39:50When they first started, they would
00:39:52send samples of these animals to
00:39:55the CBI to Fort Collins to try and
00:39:58determine what was the cause of
00:40:00their death, what was mutilating
00:40:02them.
00:40:03And nine times out of ten or more,
00:40:05the report would come back that
00:40:07we're being caused by predators.
00:40:10And these ranchers and the sheriffs
00:40:12in these rural areas have been
00:40:14around cattle all their lives.
00:40:16They've been around coyotes all their
00:40:17lives.
00:40:18And they knew that this just wasn't
00:40:20possible.
00:40:21A coyote would not do that.
00:40:24Predators, when they come in and
00:40:27start to eat, and I'm talking about
00:40:29four-legged predators, they'll come in
00:40:32and they'll bite and then they'll pull
00:40:35and they'll tear.
00:40:37The cuts we have, even we can't make
00:40:40cuts like this.
00:40:41We've tried this many times on dead
00:40:44animals with scaffolds, razors,
00:40:46knives, and we can't make the same
00:40:48cuts.
00:40:49We've had cattle that we've went and
00:40:54investigated that were, you know,
00:40:55called in, and I think I have a
00:40:57mutilation here.
00:40:58And we went out and we've seen it,
00:40:59and it was not a mutilation.
00:41:01And these are not the ones that's
00:41:03reported.
00:41:03The ones that we classed as a
00:41:06classic type mutilation are actually
00:41:08mutilations, and they're not
00:41:10predators.
00:41:12Animals, wild animals, predators,
00:41:14coyotes,
00:41:17won't approach these carcasses.
00:41:20But in the case of an animal being
00:41:22mutilated in the wintertime, there's
00:41:24possibly something about the cold
00:41:25weather that may mask whatever it is
00:41:27that keeps predators away, and that
00:41:29will be the exception to the rule.
00:41:31Is this animal here pretty much like the
00:41:33other ones you had that were mutilated?
00:41:35Yeah.
00:41:36Yeah.
00:41:39How old a cow is this, Don?
00:41:41Eight years old, according to the way I
00:41:43looked at her teeth, eight or nine.
00:41:47And I know definitely it wasn't animals.
00:41:53We took out the whole work, sir.
00:42:03Don, you know now, on this critter here,
00:42:05how this looks like a real incised wound.
00:42:08Yeah.
00:42:08Well, it looks, it's definitely cut.
00:42:10Oh, yeah.
00:42:10Everything you can tell that.
00:42:11I mean, even at the age that it is right now,
00:42:14that's opposed to the way it is to where the
00:42:16animals have been to it on this other side
00:42:19over here.
00:42:20Kind of notice, sir, you know, the difference there,
00:42:21Don, between here and how animals have been to that,
00:42:25and that flesh is torn.
00:42:26Yeah.
00:42:27And it's not a real incise.
00:42:29But yet, when we seen this animal the other day,
00:42:31now these were all precise, good, clean cuts.
00:42:35Definitely.
00:42:36So that's a good example of what we
00:42:38was trying to say about the lab up there.
00:42:39They said that, they said it was predators doing it.
00:42:43But that definitely wasn't a predator wound there.
00:42:46No, I wouldn't say.
00:42:48Well, it looks like they went clear from the navel.
00:42:52Here, clear back in underneath there and took the whole bag
00:42:54and uttered the whole works out.
00:42:57And they cored down into the rectum, the whole rectal area.
00:43:00And it looks like it got back into some of the reproductive
00:43:03organs back in there.
00:43:06As the mutilations and the sightings of the lights
00:43:09in the sky continued, it got to a point to where
00:43:12more ranchers in the northeastern part of the state
00:43:14began arming themselves.
00:43:16They weren't getting the results they wanted
00:43:18from state authorities.
00:43:20They were concerned for their families.
00:43:22And they never knew when they might be next.
00:43:25They began patrolling their pasture land,
00:43:28watching over their herds at night.
00:43:30The lights from the sky, when they got too close
00:43:33to a herd of cattle, the ranchers shot.
00:43:36Well, I think everybody was a little edgy.
00:43:41Everybody started carrying high-powered rifles on,
00:43:43and what good it would have done.
00:43:44But everybody was awfully nervous.
00:43:47I'm completely convinced that there's something there
00:43:50that's not normal.
00:43:52There's a lot of questions that are unanswered, I'm sure.
00:43:55And hopefully someday, maybe somebody will figure it out.
00:43:58Unidentifiable lights in the sky have appeared
00:44:00in virtually every area of this country
00:44:03which has been plagued by cattle mutilations.
00:44:05But no explanation has been found for these strange sightings.
00:44:10There are some who believe that these objects in the sky
00:44:13are responsible for thousands of mysterious cattle deaths
00:44:16which continue to this day.
00:44:23Though state and local officials have stated their views
00:44:26about the mutilation mystery,
00:44:29surprisingly, few veterinarians will speak publicly
00:44:31about the situation.
00:44:35This man is an exception.
00:44:37Dr. William Fitzgerald runs an animal clinic
00:44:39in Durango, Colorado.
00:44:41Because of his expertise in the field of veterinary medicine,
00:44:44he was asked by the sheriff's office
00:44:46to perform an autopsy on a mutilated cow
00:44:49found in a remote area of state-owned forest.
00:44:52This particular animal had been largely exsanguinated.
00:44:57The anus and about the first four inches of the rectum
00:45:01had been removed.
00:45:05The prepucial skin and the last two or three inches
00:45:09of the penis had been severed flush with the body wall.
00:45:14The left eye had been removed
00:45:18and the last one-third of the tongue had been cut.
00:45:24A portion of the lips on the left side of the animal
00:45:28were also sawed off.
00:45:33Presumably to gain access to the tongue,
00:45:35but this makes no sense
00:45:36because that portion of the tongue
00:45:38could have been easily pulled out and cut off without that.
00:45:40So I don't understand that point.
00:45:44Reports I have heard,
00:45:47some that I have read subsequent to this time,
00:45:50indicate that people have seen mutilations
00:45:54that they attributed to predators.
00:45:59And if this was a predator,
00:46:00he had two feet and a six-inch knife
00:46:03because it was a very sharp, single cut in most instances.
00:46:08And although not the world's leading expert,
00:46:10I work with knives frequently.
00:46:13I know what they do.
00:46:14I know the marks they leave.
00:46:16Exsanguination,
00:46:17the removal of blood from an animal,
00:46:19has been a predominant trademark of the mutilators.
00:46:22Few officials have found an answer
00:46:25to the technique used in this procedure.
00:46:28Dr. Fitzgerald describes what he thinks is the method.
00:46:32If a large-bore needle
00:46:34is placed in the animal's jugular vein,
00:46:37while the animal is sedated under anesthesia
00:46:40or awake, if you like,
00:46:42somehow restrained, however,
00:46:44the animal's heart will function as a pump
00:46:48and will pump out very nearly all of its blood
00:46:51through that needle.
00:46:57As the animal's blood supply begins to diminish,
00:47:01a natural physiological mechanism
00:47:03takes over and sequesters
00:47:05or draws what remaining blood is left
00:47:06into the internal organs in the center
00:47:09to supply the vital organs,
00:47:10the liver, the heart, the brain.
00:47:12And it will leave
00:47:13the peripheral area, the skin,
00:47:16all of the non-vital centers,
00:47:19largely bloodless.
00:47:21So if you can successfully withdraw
00:47:25the major portion of an animal's blood,
00:47:28you can cut on that animal
00:47:30and there will be virtually no bleeding
00:47:33at all from the surface.
00:47:37I know that I keep coming back to this point,
00:47:40but the animal was apparently
00:47:45restrained with something other than ropes.
00:47:48Why? I don't know.
00:47:49It was apparently washed completely clean.
00:47:53Why? I don't know.
00:47:59And it was in a very remote area.
00:48:02Perhaps these things tie together.
00:48:04Perhaps whoever, whatever,
00:48:07performed this
00:48:09didn't want to be observed.
00:48:11I think one of my initial feelings
00:48:13was that somebody certainly went
00:48:15to an awful lot of trouble
00:48:16to get back into a remote area
00:48:17where I don't believe you'd casually know
00:48:19there were even cattle to do all of this.
00:48:25Dulce, New Mexico,
00:48:27similar to the plains of Colorado
00:48:29in its isolation,
00:48:30but nestled among rolling hills
00:48:32and small mountains,
00:48:34is the land of the Hicaria Apache.
00:48:38Tradition is strong here.
00:48:40Indian women weave intricate baskets
00:48:42and create delicate beadwork.
00:48:45The men preside over tribal business
00:48:47and raise cattle.
00:48:49And here, as in Logan County,
00:48:52the night sky has been lit
00:48:54with the glow of unknown flying objects
00:48:57when cattle are found mutilated.
00:49:00Officer Gabe Valdez
00:49:01of the New Mexico State Police
00:49:03and retired scientist Howard Burgess,
00:49:06who pioneered the development
00:49:07of Kirlian photography in this country,
00:49:10periodically pooled their knowledge
00:49:11and expertise
00:49:12in an effort to solve
00:49:14the mutilation mystery.
00:49:16Officer Valdez describes
00:49:17how it all began.
00:49:18It was in 1976, June the 14th,
00:49:24when we first had
00:49:25one of our cattle mutilations
00:49:27here in Dulce.
00:49:29The cattle that was mutilated
00:49:31belonged to Mr. Emmanuel Gomez.
00:49:33Anytime that we do find one
00:49:35that it's not too decomposed
00:49:39and it's fresh enough
00:49:42for us to do some tests,
00:49:43I do call on Mr. Burgess
00:49:45because he has a lot of knowledge
00:49:48in the field of science
00:49:48that is very helpful to me
00:49:51in conducting my investigations.
00:49:54Howard Burgess had a theory
00:49:55that some of the cattle
00:49:57had been marked
00:49:58prior to their mutilation
00:49:59with something which would show up
00:50:01under ultraviolet light
00:50:02but be invisible to the naked eye.
00:50:06Late one night,
00:50:07he and Valdez conducted an experiment
00:50:09and found that
00:50:11out of 80 head of cattle,
00:50:13five were indeed marked
00:50:14with a powdery white substance
00:50:16visible only
00:50:17under ultraviolet light.
00:50:20So we took ultraviolet
00:50:23with some special filters
00:50:24and ran the cattle through it
00:50:26and what appears to be markings
00:50:29glowed under ultraviolet.
00:50:31It's invisible to the normal eye
00:50:33but under ultraviolet
00:50:35it does glow.
00:50:36Then we removed the hair
00:50:39from the region that does glow
00:50:41and we removed a control sample.
00:50:44We took these to the lab
00:50:45and had chemical checks
00:50:47run on them.
00:50:49We did find that the sample
00:50:53that did glow
00:50:54is extremely high
00:50:55in potassium and magnesium.
00:50:58At the time,
00:50:59this was interesting
00:51:00but it didn't mean much to us
00:51:02until we ran on to other things
00:51:04that began to tie in with it.
00:51:07The tie-in came on July 3rd, 1978
00:51:10when a UFO was sighted
00:51:12over Taos, New Mexico.
00:51:13As it hovered over the town,
00:51:15it dropped a thin film of ashes
00:51:17onto the ground below.
00:51:19The ashes contained
00:51:20high levels of magnesium
00:51:21and potassium,
00:51:22the same elements found
00:51:24on the cattle
00:51:24under ultraviolet light.
00:51:26But there was more.
00:51:27We find there's
00:51:29at least 25 elements in there.
00:51:32There's a good possibility
00:51:33that it may be something
00:51:35that's organic.
00:51:36And if it is,
00:51:38this just opens up
00:51:39a real bag of worms
00:51:41because anything can happen
00:51:43if this is an organic material
00:51:44that has come
00:51:46from one of these crafts.
00:51:49And this,
00:51:50as the people told us,
00:51:52directly fell from the craft
00:51:55that was hovering over the area.
00:51:58One evening in 1975,
00:52:00Logan County Sheriff Tex Graves
00:52:02took his deputies
00:52:03into the countryside
00:52:04around Sterling, Colorado,
00:52:06determined to track
00:52:07the bright lights
00:52:08which had been skimming
00:52:09across the ranches
00:52:10and farmlands
00:52:11for the last several weeks.
00:52:13Reporter Bill Jackson
00:52:14describes the sequence of events.
00:52:17We were just getting started in this.
00:52:19We really didn't know
00:52:19what we were doing.
00:52:21We weren't prepared
00:52:22for anything like this,
00:52:24of course.
00:52:25But as time went on,
00:52:27we realized
00:52:28we couldn't catch them.
00:52:29So maybe we can take pictures
00:52:30of them
00:52:31and discover something that way.
00:52:35About a year and a half later,
00:52:38the lights returned
00:52:39and the mutilations
00:52:40were still going on.
00:52:42So we arranged
00:52:44with the Honeywell people
00:52:45in Denver
00:52:46to borrow
00:52:46a 1,100mm Lentar lens
00:52:49from them
00:52:51and got some
00:52:53high-speed recording film
00:52:54from Kodak.
00:52:56And then we sat
00:52:57and we waited,
00:53:00hoping that the lights
00:53:02would come back
00:53:02and we'd have a chance
00:53:03and finally that chance came.
00:53:06It was a stationary object
00:53:08that we saw
00:53:09for approximately
00:53:1030 to 45 minutes
00:53:11and the resulting shots
00:53:13were interesting,
00:53:14to say the least.
00:53:28Shortly after
00:53:29these final exposures,
00:53:31the object just disappeared.
00:53:33It was almost like
00:53:33somebody hit a light switch
00:53:35and it was there
00:53:36no longer.
00:53:39What are these
00:53:41unidentifiable lights?
00:53:42What is their nature
00:53:43and their purpose?
00:53:45And that it is time
00:53:47that world governments
00:53:48officially acknowledge
00:53:52They appeared
00:53:53in the night skies
00:53:54immediately prior
00:53:55to the discovery
00:53:56of mutilated cattle.
00:53:58and how many more animals
00:54:00will die
00:54:00before the mystery is solved.
00:54:11In 1974,
00:54:13I received a call
00:54:14from a woman
00:54:15who had a strange story
00:54:16to tell.
00:54:17One night,
00:54:18as she and three friends
00:54:19were returning
00:54:20to Los Angeles
00:54:20from Lompoc, California,
00:54:22they encountered
00:54:23an unidentified light
00:54:24in the sky.
00:54:25Thinking at first
00:54:26it was a helicopter,
00:54:27the friends
00:54:28paid little attention.
00:54:29When the object
00:54:30began to fly
00:54:31in unusual patterns
00:54:32at extremely high speeds,
00:54:34the passengers
00:54:35soon realized
00:54:36they were dealing
00:54:37with something
00:54:38out of the ordinary.
00:54:39What happened next
00:54:40is best told
00:54:41in the woman's own words.
00:54:43Helen is a fictional name.
00:54:44A real name
00:54:45is being withheld
00:54:46at her own request.
00:54:49I saw it come into the sky
00:54:51from the top
00:54:51of the mountain range
00:54:52and go straight up
00:54:53and do a 90 degree
00:54:54angle toward us
00:54:55and I called it
00:54:56to the attention
00:54:57of Don, John, and Sue.
00:54:59And they saw it too
00:55:01and it was there.
00:55:03I was not on dope
00:55:04or alcohol
00:55:05or anything like that.
00:55:06And it came
00:55:07starting doing
00:55:08really erratic things
00:55:09in the sky.
00:55:10It was a small white light
00:55:11and very easy to see.
00:55:13We were not mistaking anything.
00:55:15It came over to the car,
00:55:17flipped over
00:55:17and went around
00:55:18on the other side
00:55:19toward the other hills
00:55:20and came back
00:55:21and settled above the car.
00:55:22By this time,
00:55:23because it was so close,
00:55:25it was eight lanes
00:55:27freeway
00:55:27at least in diameter
00:55:29and even a little wider.
00:55:30Saucer-shaped,
00:55:32a very white,
00:55:33luminescent light
00:55:34emitted from the entirety of it.
00:55:36The ship stayed above us,
00:55:39out in front of us,
00:55:40about a minute or two.
00:55:42We watched it
00:55:43and none of us
00:55:43were saying the same.
00:55:45And we just kept driving
00:55:47and it kept staying
00:55:48in front of us.
00:55:48And then out of the perimeter
00:55:49of it,
00:55:50closest to us,
00:55:52came four white beams
00:55:54of light,
00:55:54very much like funnel-shaped,
00:55:56smaller at the perimeter.
00:55:57And they descended upon us
00:55:59and came around
00:56:00each one of our bodies.
00:56:01And out of each one
00:56:03of our bodies,
00:56:03we started to float
00:56:05into that beam of light.
00:56:06The best description
00:56:08would be molecularly
00:56:10being dispersed.
00:56:11And when I looked over
00:56:13at Don and Sue
00:56:14and John,
00:56:16their bodies,
00:56:17their legs and their bottoms
00:56:18are still on the car seat
00:56:20and their heads
00:56:20and their shoulders
00:56:21and their chest molecules
00:56:22were going through
00:56:23the roof of the car
00:56:24along with mine.
00:56:26We didn't lose consciousness
00:56:27while this happened.
00:56:28We were completely conscious
00:56:29of going through the roof.
00:56:31And the bottom molecules
00:56:33of our body
00:56:34were coming through too
00:56:35and we were about
00:56:36three and a half
00:56:37or four feet
00:56:38outside the car
00:56:39going toward the ship
00:56:41and we hit an energy field,
00:56:43a strong one
00:56:44and we remembered nothing.
00:56:47Next thing I did remember,
00:56:48we were coming back,
00:56:50the same process,
00:56:51going back into the car.
00:56:54It wasn't until
00:56:55several years later
00:56:56that Helen realized
00:56:58she had experienced
00:56:59more than she had remembered.
00:57:00Mental images
00:57:01which she couldn't explain
00:57:03caused her to visit
00:57:05a specialist
00:57:05who put her
00:57:06through a memory regression.
00:57:08In this relaxed state,
00:57:09Helen recalled
00:57:10the evening in question
00:57:12and described in detail
00:57:13the experience
00:57:14of being taken
00:57:15aboard the UFO.
00:57:18I came to
00:57:19and standing in front of me
00:57:21was a very tall man
00:57:22with whitish hair,
00:57:23kind of bronze,
00:57:24beautifully tan
00:57:25type of skin
00:57:27and he had
00:57:29a long type
00:57:30of roguish gown on
00:57:31and he was looking
00:57:32at me
00:57:32and very, very friendly
00:57:34and he said
00:57:36he supposed
00:57:37I'd like to know
00:57:38what we were doing here
00:57:40and I looked around
00:57:41and I did want to know
00:57:41there was a huge room
00:57:42that we were in
00:57:43that had a hallway
00:57:44off the front
00:57:45and a hallway
00:57:45off to the side
00:57:46and there were
00:57:47round curved hallways.
00:57:48The room was very light,
00:57:51iridescent light,
00:57:51radiated all over
00:57:52but you didn't see
00:57:53a light bulb anywhere.
00:57:54In fact,
00:57:54you didn't see
00:57:55hardly anything
00:57:55except for the
00:57:56swivel chairs
00:57:57we were sitting in
00:57:58and he proceeded
00:58:00to help me up
00:58:02and then we walked
00:58:03together over
00:58:03to the screen
00:58:05in front of us
00:58:06across the room
00:58:07and he showed us
00:58:08some information,
00:58:09pictures
00:58:10and it was very cordial
00:58:12and very easy
00:58:13to talk with.
00:58:15The man spoke
00:58:16to me in English
00:58:17but concurrent
00:58:18with everything
00:58:19he said
00:58:19was a great deal
00:58:21of telepathic
00:58:22communication
00:58:22and it was
00:58:23completely peaceful
00:58:24feeling
00:58:25though
00:58:27it all made sense.
00:58:29He showed us
00:58:30a screen
00:58:30with many images
00:58:31on it
00:58:32that clarified
00:58:34some of the things
00:58:34he was saying.
00:58:35He also said
00:58:36that he'd been around
00:58:37with the other people
00:58:38there for thousands
00:58:39of years
00:58:39and that they had
00:58:41been picking up
00:58:42people
00:58:42and giving information
00:58:44to people
00:58:45for the use
00:58:46of putting it
00:58:47into this world,
00:58:48into the society
00:58:49to bring about
00:58:51a lot of better
00:58:51changes
00:58:53and the interesting
00:58:55thing was
00:58:56that there are
00:58:57some people
00:58:58he indicated
00:58:59who have,
00:59:00who we know
00:59:01and read about
00:59:01who were given
00:59:02information by him.
00:59:03This is what he told me
00:59:06and there was
00:59:08no fear
00:59:08that's predominant
00:59:10I think
00:59:10in everything.
00:59:12From this large room
00:59:13where we first came on
00:59:15the man led me down
00:59:16into a couple
00:59:17other rooms
00:59:18and the one
00:59:19that's very interesting
00:59:20was more or less
00:59:21in the center
00:59:22of this ship
00:59:22and it was a room
00:59:24full of dials
00:59:25and full of men
00:59:26dressed in more
00:59:27form-fitting clothes
00:59:28whereas the one
00:59:29who met me
00:59:29had a type
00:59:30of ambassadorial
00:59:31robes on
00:59:32and these guys
00:59:32had more like
00:59:34turtlenecks
00:59:35and Levi's
00:59:35they were still white
00:59:36soft, iridescent
00:59:37and very comfortable
00:59:39looking
00:59:39and they were working
00:59:40there was plenty
00:59:41of dials
00:59:42and there was
00:59:42lots of screens
00:59:43types of scopes
00:59:45there
00:59:45and they were
00:59:46doing things
00:59:48very involved
00:59:48and none of them
00:59:49paid any attention
00:59:50to us
00:59:50they kept
00:59:51their work
00:59:53after he had
00:59:54taken me
00:59:55to these rooms
00:59:56we were walking
00:59:57again down the hall
00:59:58to go back
00:59:59to the car
01:00:00and while we were
01:00:01walking
01:00:02I remember telling him
01:00:03you know
01:00:03nobody's going
01:00:03to believe me
01:00:04and he said
01:00:05he's a really nice
01:00:06doctor
01:00:07and he goes
01:00:07it doesn't matter
01:00:08if anybody
01:00:08believes you
01:00:10and there was
01:00:11a purpose
01:00:11to being told
01:00:12these things
01:00:13and what I had
01:00:14learned
01:00:14and what John
01:00:15and Sue
01:00:16had learned too
01:00:17had its purpose
01:00:19and he was
01:00:20very kind
01:00:21and very cordial
01:00:22you could meet him
01:00:23on the street
01:00:24almost
01:00:24and not even
01:00:25feel anything
01:00:26unusual
01:00:28and then
01:00:29we came back
01:00:30to the room
01:00:30and we were put
01:00:31back in the car
01:00:32the same way
01:00:32as we were taken out
01:00:33and we
01:00:34just this tremendous
01:00:35sense of peace
01:00:37and that there was
01:00:38a lot more
01:00:39going on
01:00:39than we had
01:00:41originally thought
01:00:44in December
01:00:44of 1969
01:00:45amidst great
01:00:47public controversy
01:00:48the Condon report
01:00:49from the University

01:00:50was finally out
01:00:51in summary
01:00:53they found
01:00:53no evidence

01:04:35in front of a
01:04:36brightly colored craft
01:04:37on the lonely

01:04:39ordinary people
01:04:41are seeing something
01:04:42all over the globe
01:04:43but what have
01:04:45the experts seen
01:04:46NORAD
01:04:47and the Air Force
01:04:48do have
01:04:49extremely sophisticated
01:04:50equipment
01:04:51and by use
01:04:52of the phased array
01:04:53radar facility
01:04:54surveillance is maintained
01:04:56on objects in space
01:04:57but the system
01:04:58is only designed
01:04:59to track things
01:05:00like rockets
01:05:01satellites
01:05:02and man-made debris
01:05:03objects with
01:05:05specific trajectories
01:05:06and which hold
01:05:07an orbital or flight
01:05:08velocity of
01:05:09approximately 4.8
01:05:11nautical miles
01:05:12per second
01:05:12this system
01:05:14is designed
01:05:14to discriminate
01:05:16between objects
01:05:16in space
01:05:17for example
01:05:18it will ignore
01:05:19a meteor
01:05:19entering the Earth's
01:05:21atmosphere
01:05:21but will quickly
01:05:22spot a satellite
01:05:23as it begins
01:05:24re-entry
01:05:24objects can also
01:05:26be photographed
01:05:27with incredible
01:05:27precision
01:05:28by the electro-optical
01:05:30surveillance system
01:05:31and it's very good
01:05:32at its job
01:05:33however
01:05:34it's not designed
01:05:35to photograph everything
01:05:36just specific items
01:05:38and particular missions
01:05:40the sky is so vast
01:05:43it is virtually impossible
01:05:45to wait for
01:05:46track
01:05:47and photograph
01:05:48all unidentified phenomena
01:05:50there is just not
01:05:51sufficient time
01:05:52or budget
01:05:53so it is not really
01:05:55accurate to say
01:05:56that our sophisticated
01:05:57equipment and personnel
01:05:59are able to identify
01:06:00and examine
01:06:01any and all UFOs
01:06:03on the contrary
01:06:04they are programmed
01:06:05to study
01:06:06man-built machines
01:06:08and only that
01:06:11among the many
01:06:12reports of UFOs
01:06:13in late 1973
01:06:14one incident
01:06:16would stand out
01:06:17because of the
01:06:18credibility
01:06:18of the four witnesses
01:06:20this is Major Coyne
01:06:21Army helicopter pilot
01:06:23his co-pilot
01:06:24Lieutenant Errigo Jetsi
01:06:25Air Medic
01:06:26Sergeant Healy
01:06:27and Robert Janicek
01:06:28these men
01:06:29had just finished
01:06:30their annual flight
01:06:31physical
01:06:31early that day
01:06:32and were found
01:06:34fit and sound of mind
01:06:35they would take off
01:06:36from Port Columbus
01:06:37Airport
01:06:38about 10.30pm
01:06:39but what was
01:06:41about to follow
01:06:42and the subsequent
01:06:43report they filed
01:06:44would put to the test
01:06:46the credibility
01:06:47of these men
01:06:47approximately 8 miles
01:06:49east of Mansfield
01:06:52our crew chief
01:06:54Sergeant Robert Janicek
01:06:55observed a red light
01:06:56on the east horizon
01:06:57did you gentlemen
01:06:58see the same red light?
01:07:00yes I did
01:07:02our helicopter
01:07:03was flying
01:07:03on a northerly heading
01:07:04we were flying
01:07:06at an altitude
01:07:07of 2,500 feet
01:07:10he indicated
01:07:11that the light
01:07:12seemed to be
01:07:12pacing the helicopter
01:07:13moving along
01:07:15in a parallel direction
01:07:16with our aircraft
01:07:17which direction
01:07:18from the helicopter
01:07:19was the other?
01:07:20moving
01:07:21it was
01:07:22it was to our
01:07:23right
01:07:24to the right side
01:07:25of the helicopter
01:07:26and it was moving
01:07:27with us
01:07:28as we were heading
01:07:29north towards Cleveland
01:07:31now at this time
01:07:32he indicated
01:07:34that the light
01:07:34change of direction
01:07:36was coming directly
01:07:37at the helicopter
01:07:38at the same altitude
01:07:41and as the helicopter
01:07:43was maintaining
01:07:46a speed of 90 knots
01:07:47the object came
01:07:49at a terrific speed
01:07:50from the horizon
01:07:51we estimated 15 miles
01:07:52visibility was reported
01:07:5415 miles that night
01:07:55did you gentlemen
01:07:57see the object
01:07:57at this time
01:07:58after it had been pointed
01:07:59out by the sergeant
01:08:01no not at that time
01:08:02I was flying
01:08:03left seat or co-pilot
01:08:04and visibility
01:08:05from that seat
01:08:06from an object
01:08:07approaching from the right
01:08:08is rather limited
01:08:09so I was having
01:08:10a difficulty
01:08:11seeing the object
01:08:12and it was
01:08:13for that reason
01:08:14the major point
01:08:15did take the aircraft
01:08:16or the controls
01:08:16from me
01:08:17I grabbed the controls
01:08:18from Lieutenant Jetsy
01:08:19because I thought
01:08:20it was going to hit us
01:08:21I braced for impact
01:08:23with that I pushed
01:08:24the collective down
01:08:25to get the helicopter
01:08:26to start to descend
01:08:27I then looked
01:08:29at the altimeter
01:08:29it was showing
01:08:301700 feet
01:08:31we were descending
01:08:321000 feet a minute
01:08:34the helicopter
01:08:35began to descend
01:08:36and as this object
01:08:37came at the helicopter
01:08:39it seemed to descend
01:08:40with the helicopter
01:08:41when the helicopter
01:08:42went down
01:08:43the object came down
01:08:44but it still came
01:08:45directly at our broad side
01:08:46as if to hit the helicopter
01:08:47from the right side
01:08:48and that it is time
01:08:50that world governments
01:08:51officially acknowledge
01:08:55did anyone else
01:08:56see the object
01:08:57at this time
01:08:58yes I was watching
01:08:59it come on
01:08:59out of the east horizon
01:09:01and the only thing
01:09:02I felt was when
01:09:03the skipper took over
01:09:04the controls
01:09:05and we started
01:09:06to auto-rotate down
01:09:07and I'd never been
01:09:08involved in a mid-air
01:09:09collision so I was
01:09:10just watching
01:09:10this thing come at us
01:09:11it was at this time
01:09:14my light came
01:09:15swung 90 degrees
01:09:16from the UFO
01:09:17towards the helicopter
01:09:18and it came in
01:09:19through the front
01:09:20of the plexiglass
01:09:21and the entire cabin
01:09:22inside turned green
01:09:23from the light
01:09:24it was a pyramid
01:09:25shaped type light
01:09:26that beamed down
01:09:27and came through
01:09:29the front of the helicopter
01:09:30how long was your
01:09:31aircraft bathed
01:09:33in this beam
01:09:34the light that came
01:09:36into the cockpit
01:09:37apparently lasted
01:09:39only for a few seconds
01:09:40but it was enough time
01:09:41that I observed
01:09:43the red instrument
01:09:44panel lights
01:09:45utilized for night flying
01:09:46to be absorbed
01:09:47by the green lights
01:09:48was it possible
01:09:49for you to determine
01:09:50the outline of this
01:09:51object against
01:09:51the star background
01:09:52yes sir
01:09:54it was a cigar
01:09:56shaped object
01:09:57like a symmetrical
01:09:58airfoil
01:09:59with a dome on it
01:10:00it was a solid object
01:10:02it was a metallic
01:10:03structure to it
01:10:06and you could see
01:10:08lights reflecting
01:10:09off the structure
01:10:10and you could not
01:10:12see any of the stars
01:10:13or behind the object
01:10:15itself
01:10:16while all this
01:10:17was going on
01:10:18what was the attitude
01:10:19of the helicopter
01:10:20apparently
01:10:21when we were supposed
01:10:23to be descending
01:10:24at 2,000 feet a minute
01:10:25at 100 knots
01:10:27we were climbing
01:10:29at 1,000 feet a minute
01:10:32with the control
01:10:33still established
01:10:34for a descent
01:10:36and we went
01:10:38from 1,700 feet
01:10:39up to 3,500 feet
01:10:41and topped out
01:10:42at 3,800 feet
01:10:43I would like to stress
01:10:45one important fact
01:10:47and that is
01:10:48there is approximately
01:10:5020 years
01:10:51of army aviation
01:10:52experience
01:10:53between the four
01:10:54men on board
01:10:55the helicopter
01:10:56that night
01:10:57we have been trained
01:10:59to follow procedures
01:11:00and regulations
01:11:01in reporting incidents
01:11:03regardless
01:11:04of how they're accepted
01:11:05and we tried
01:11:07to follow
01:11:08those procedures
01:11:09and we reported
01:11:10the incident
01:11:11as it occurred
01:11:13and have avoided
01:11:14any speculation
01:11:15on the subject
01:11:19while our government's
01:11:20official position
01:11:21is not to speculate
01:11:22on this subject
01:11:23we can choose
01:11:24to let our minds
01:11:25explore other possibilities
01:11:26to use our imaginations
01:11:28for if we consider
01:11:31that astro-scientists
01:11:32agree on one point
01:11:33that the possibility
01:11:34of life elsewhere
01:11:35is not only
01:11:36quite probable
01:11:37some feel
01:11:38it is there
01:11:39without a doubt
01:11:39let us suppose
01:11:41then that these objects
01:11:42are real space vehicles
01:11:44extraterrestrial in origin
01:11:45and not an illusion
01:11:47of the mind
01:11:48perhaps we can begin
01:11:49to accept such ideas
01:11:51as various reported
01:11:52UFO shapes
01:11:53and configurations
01:11:54by looking at our own
01:11:55aviation history
01:11:57we have in 71 years
01:11:59devised dozens
01:12:00of aircraft shapes
01:12:02from propeller driven
01:12:04biplanes
01:12:04to lunar modules
01:12:05to date
01:12:11and by projecting
01:12:13into the future
01:12:13it's conceivable
01:12:15that our technology
01:12:16may lead us
01:12:16to similar developments
01:12:18as to the UFO's behavior
01:12:20if they are space vehicles
01:12:22they appear to have
01:12:24movement in advance
01:12:25of our understanding
01:12:26of what is possible
01:12:27in the 20th century
01:12:28but we must realize
01:12:29however
01:12:30it stretches our imagination
01:12:32there will be a 21st
01:12:34and 22nd
01:12:35and 23rd century
01:12:37where the impossibilities
01:12:38of today
01:12:39may be tomorrow's
01:12:41commonplace
01:12:42if these vehicles
01:12:43are of origins
01:12:44outside our earth
01:12:46then we must assume
01:12:47they are managed
01:12:48controlled
01:12:49and operated
01:12:50by some sort of beings
01:12:51perhaps similar to us
01:12:52from sketchy reports
01:12:54around the world
01:12:55we can begin
01:12:56to construct
01:12:56a hazy portrait
01:12:58of these aliens
01:12:59reports indicate
01:13:00ashen pale
01:13:02white skin
01:13:03perhaps with a thin
01:13:05protective membrane
01:13:06over them
01:13:07eyes large
01:13:09far apart
01:13:10with a wraparound
01:13:11appearance
01:13:12nose indefinite
01:13:14two small
01:13:15breathing holes
01:13:16a slit mouth
01:13:18or small
01:13:19or no opening
01:13:19at all
01:13:20behavior
01:13:21cautious
01:13:22curious
01:13:23firm
01:13:24ability to paralyze
01:13:26on touch
01:13:26sounds emitted
01:13:28humming
01:13:30ooze in a foreign language
01:13:32or some accent
01:13:33buzzing as if electronic
01:13:35from their head
01:13:36and chest
01:13:37wearing head protection
01:13:39or overall body protection
01:13:42we just might not be
01:13:44scientific and technically
01:13:46sophisticated
01:13:47to the extent
01:13:48that's necessary
01:13:49in order to recognize
01:13:50what is the real evidence
01:13:52in this
01:13:52in what we have collected
01:13:54I think we should also think
01:13:56of other possible hypotheses
01:13:57suppose there are such things
01:13:59as
01:14:02interlocking universes
01:14:03where
01:14:04forms of matter
01:14:05which
01:14:05don't mesh
01:14:07with ours
01:14:07except under
01:14:09strange conditions
01:14:10to assume that we are
01:14:12on the level
01:14:13of intelligence
01:14:15that a
01:14:16that would of necessity
01:14:18be visiting us
01:14:20if they have the ability
01:14:21to come here
01:14:23there may be no
01:14:24common bridge
01:14:25of understanding
01:14:27there may be attempts
01:14:28at communication
01:14:29and we don't recognize
01:14:30it as communication
01:14:31we must always be aware
01:14:33of the fact
01:14:34that we may
01:14:34be testing
01:14:35the wrong hypothesis
01:14:37as for instance
01:14:38in the days when
01:14:39people talked about
01:14:41stones falling from heaven
01:14:44that was testing
01:14:45the wrong hypothesis
01:14:46meteorites do exist
01:14:48the phenomenon exists
01:14:49but they're not
01:14:49stones that fall
01:14:50from heaven
01:14:50they're stones
01:14:52that the earth
01:14:54collides with
01:14:54when they're in orbit
01:14:56around the sun
01:14:57it's arrogant
01:15:00egocentric
01:15:01egotistical
01:15:02for us to think
01:15:02that we are the highest
01:15:03intelligences in the universe
01:15:04I think that's
01:15:05completely preposterous
01:15:06as far as the
01:15:09extraterrestrial intelligence
01:15:10is concerned
01:15:11I believe it's out there
01:15:14we have not been able
01:15:15to come up with
01:15:16a logical explanation
01:15:18at least our scientists
01:15:20have not
01:15:21the only plausible
01:15:23explanation that does
01:15:25that would explain
01:15:26all of these sightings
01:15:28is the theory
01:15:30that these could be
01:15:33intelligently controlled vehicles
01:15:37controlled by
01:15:38an alien species
01:15:40alien to this planet
01:15:41how would the public react
01:15:43if this event were true
01:15:45to find the answer
01:15:47Dr. Leon Festinger
01:15:48of the new school
01:15:49for social research
01:15:50consulted a number
01:15:51of prominent
01:15:52social psychologists
01:15:53from several universities
01:15:54across the United States
01:15:56you must realize
01:15:57that social scientists
01:15:58can only make educated guesses
01:16:00about reactions
01:16:01to such a new
01:16:02and startling event
01:16:03but nevertheless
01:16:04certain behavior
01:16:05can be predicted
01:16:07Dr. Aronson
01:16:08of the University of Texas
01:16:10points out
01:16:10that many people
01:16:12already
01:16:13have strong beliefs
01:16:15about the existence
01:16:16or non-existence
01:16:17of extraterrestrial beings
01:16:18and are committed
01:16:19to these beliefs
01:16:20Dr. Walzer tells us
01:16:22that if these
01:16:23extraterrestrial beings
01:16:25were advanced
01:16:26beyond us
01:16:26we would probably
01:16:28gain technological
01:16:29information from them
01:16:30that many Americans
01:16:32may worry
01:16:32that their benefactor
01:16:33will demand
01:16:34something in return
01:16:35constant gratitude
01:16:37or acknowledgement
01:16:38of their superiority
01:16:39as far as panic
01:16:41is concerned
01:16:42most of my associates
01:16:43agree that it
01:16:44wouldn't happen
01:16:45unless there were
01:16:46one an imminent danger
01:16:47with no escape
01:16:48or chance to protect oneself
01:16:50and two
01:16:51it resulted in loss
01:16:52of contact
01:16:53with family
01:16:53or primary groups
01:16:55and last
01:16:56there is also
01:16:57the question
01:16:58of longer term effects
01:16:59what would happen
01:17:01over many years
01:17:02one social psychologist
01:17:04suggests
01:17:04that it might help
01:17:05to unite the world
01:17:07if the visitors
01:17:08from space
01:17:09proved to be an enemy
01:17:10he suggests
01:17:12then we would unite
01:17:14as one species
01:17:15to drive the invader away
01:17:17and then to live
01:17:19in peace
01:17:19thereafter
01:17:21we've so far
01:17:22talked of the past
01:17:24of the present
01:17:24but what are the
01:17:26possibilities
01:17:26of the future
01:17:27it seems almost certain
01:17:29that if other beings
01:17:30more advanced
01:17:31than ourselves
01:17:32do inhabit
01:17:33other sectors
01:17:34of the universe
01:17:34then it's quite probable
01:17:36there will come
01:17:37that day
01:17:38that moment in time
01:17:39when official contact
01:17:41will be made
01:17:43let's look at an incident
01:17:44that might happen
01:17:45in the future
01:17:45or perhaps
01:17:47could have happened
01:17:47already
01:17:48the premise is
01:17:49that contact
01:17:50is made
01:17:51by extraterrestrial beings
01:17:52with representatives
01:17:54of the united states air force
01:17:55at holloman air force base
01:17:56in the deserts
01:17:57of new mexico
01:18:00the day is clear
01:18:01it's about 5.32 a.m.
01:18:03at holloman air force base
01:18:04traffic light
01:18:06one recon plane
01:18:07is on the field
01:18:08ready for takeoff
01:18:09when sergeant mann
01:18:11is given a report
01:18:11what of an approaching
01:18:12unidentified craft
01:18:13yeah bill
01:18:14no nothing on the line
01:18:16I'll repeat it again
01:18:17unidentified approaching
01:18:19objects
01:18:19on the court of 8
01:18:2049er
01:18:2234 degrees southwest
01:18:23well and late
01:18:24in the land of course
01:18:25uh probably astray
01:18:27maybe
01:18:27keep it in for
01:18:28I see him over there
01:18:31check with edwards
01:18:32make contact with him bill
01:18:34uh this is
01:18:35holloman air force base
01:18:36central tower
01:18:37identify yourself
01:18:38what's your tail number
01:18:40you're approaching
01:18:41on military air space
01:18:44warning identify yourself
01:18:46you're in a restricted
01:18:47military air corridor
01:18:49call the base commander
01:18:50base commander's office
01:18:52sergeant wentmore
01:18:53speaking yes yes hold on
01:18:57this is colonel horner
01:18:59yes yes an unidentified
01:19:02vehicle you warned the
01:19:03aircraft again
01:19:04142 turn left
01:19:05what's it shape
01:19:06check edwards
01:19:08civilian patrol
01:19:10okay all right
01:19:12uh it's down to red alert
01:19:14unidentified aircraft
01:19:16approaching
01:19:16hey bill give me a quick
01:19:18check with right
01:19:19patterson intelligence
01:19:20there may be an
01:19:21experimental craft
01:19:22somewhere I don't know
01:19:22here alert the fire chief
01:19:24and security and safety
01:19:44two military interceptors
01:19:46are dispatched to escort
01:19:48the unidentified crafts out of the area
01:19:55during a routine photographic mission
01:19:58a tech sergeant and staff sergeant
01:20:00of the base photographic team
01:20:01were aboard a helicopter at the time
01:20:03and run off several feet of film
01:20:06of the three objects
01:20:07one of which breaks away
01:20:10and begins a descent
01:20:11a second high speed camera crew
01:20:14on the ground runs off approximately 600 feet
01:20:17the cameras continue to roll as the extraordinary vehicle comes into view
01:20:22it hovers almost silently about 10 feet off the ground for nearly a minute
01:20:28and yaws like a ship at anchor
01:20:30then sets down on three extension pads
01:20:34commander and two officers along with two base air force scientists arrive and wait apprehensively
01:20:40a panel slides open on the side of the craft
01:20:46and a third
01:20:48and a third what appear to be men dressed in tight-fitting jumpsuits
01:20:51perhaps short by our standards with an odd blue-gray complexion
01:20:56eyes set far apart
01:20:58a large pronounced nose
01:21:00they wear a headpiece that resembles a rope-like design
01:21:04the commander and the two scientists step forward to greet the visitors
01:21:08arrangements are made by some sort of communication
01:21:11and the group quickly retires to an inner office
01:21:15in the King One area
01:21:18left behind stand a stunned group of military personnel
01:21:22who the visitors are
01:21:24where they're from
01:21:25and what they want
01:21:26is unknown
01:21:32we now have a new challenge
01:21:34perhaps the most monumental in recorded history
01:21:37the opportunity to investigate a phenomenon that could change our destiny
01:21:42through the study and understanding of the ufo phenomena
01:21:45we may discover a new energy force
01:21:48or how to use it
01:21:49or it could lead to an understanding of our relationship to life throughout the universe
01:21:54and if there are beings from distant advanced societies
01:21:58we may be privileged to see a revelation
01:22:01a look at ourselves a thousand years in the future
01:22:04and perhaps at this very moment
01:22:07located in another galaxy
01:22:09somewhere in infinite space
01:22:11other beings raise similar questions
01:22:14and discuss the possibilities of life outside their planet
01:22:18and talk about earth as part of their plan
01:22:21and talk about earth as part of their plan
01:22:21and talk about earth as part of their plan
