About 3,800 raids were carried out nationwide last year to shut down illegal dump sites as part of efforts to curb unauthorised waste disposal and protect the environment.

Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) said the operations resulted in the removal of more than 1,700 tonnes of waste, with cleanup costs estimated at nearly RM500,000. They also said over the weekend some 78 people did the community service of cleaning up the streets for littering.

00:31In a statement on Saturday, Khalid said these enforcement activities followed over 4,200
00:37intelligence operations, resulting in fines totaling 335,000 ringgit.
00:43A total of 21 illegal dumping cases were also brought to court under the Solid Waste and
00:49Public Cleansing Management Act.
00:51Over the weekend, 78 littering offenders carried out community cleaning works across six states
00:57in peninsular Malaysia.
01:00Activities were held at Dataran Sena in Kanggar, Pantai Murni in Yan, Dataran Merdeka in Kuala
01:05Lumpur, Taman Tasik Bandar in Temerlo, Jalan BBN 1-2 in Senawang, and Kampung Senibong
01:12in Johor Bahru.
01:14At Dataran Merdeka, 26 individuals cleared dry leaves and unclogged drains along Jalan Raja,
01:20from morning until noon, with breaks provided every two hours due to the hot weather.
01:26Khalid said 1,348 notices had been issued under the Act to littering offenders, involving 1,058
01:35Malaysians and 248 foreigners across seven states under SW Corp's jurisdiction.
01:41He explained that the community service component goes beyond punishment and serves as civic
01:47education, helping offenders understand how their actions impact public spaces while fostering
01:53greater awareness and discipline in maintaining cleanliness.
