00:00I present to you, the Luska.
00:04This giant cephalopod-like sea creature, half octopus, half shark,
00:09is, many believe, the stuff of fantasy.
00:13The kind of fictional monster Jules Verne might dream up.
00:17But then, there are those more open-minded souls, like myself,
00:21who believe this gigantic cryptid to be as real as you or I.
00:26I will present to you the evidence I have collated, proving this animal is no mere figment of the imagination.
00:32And it all begins with the first sighting, off the coast of St. Marie, in 1823,
00:39by this man, a pirate by the name of Pierre Lafitte.
00:51Pierre Lafitte was my great-great-great-grandfather.
00:55I'll tell you no lies.
00:57Still got the journal he had when he was pirating away.
01:00Passed on from generation to generation.
01:03And that's why this is the only boat trip where you can experience the exact place my ancestor witnessed.
01:11The Luska.
01:13Roll up, roll up!
01:15You know you want to.
01:16And I promise you guys, you will not be disappointed.
01:21So, how was it?
01:23You're a believer now.
01:25To be honest, I think I'm even less of a believer than I was before.
01:31I don't know why you're bothered.
01:33Because I want to be prepared.
01:36I'm afraid nothing can prepare you for my ex-husband.
01:44Either that's him, or we've come to a soup kitchen by mistake.
01:52Hello, Giles.
01:54Cara, it's been a while, hasn't it?
01:57Death?
01:57Oh, er...
02:00Stop here.
02:06This is Rory.
02:09Ah, yes.
02:10Didn't realise you were bringing him.
02:13Nice to meet you, Rory.
02:15It's great to finally meet you, Giles.
02:17Can't wait to hear all your stories about the Luska.
02:19Absolutely fascinated about it.
02:21Ah.
02:22Um, would you like a glass of wine?
02:25Just a cup of coffee will do me, ta.
02:27Um, let me see if I can find a waiter.
02:31Sit down.
02:38So, how are you?
02:40I mean, you know, the...
02:42the anniversary.
02:44Feels strange to be back.
02:47Like it was only yesterday.
02:50I'm taking the boat out later, to...
02:52to where it happened.
02:53If you fancy joining, you remember him together.
02:56No, I'd rather stay here.
02:58With Rory.
03:12Come on.
03:18Poor guy.
03:28All right, we'll let her.
03:56It's just a bad dream.
04:05How have you been?
04:06Just went for a walk.
04:08That's all.
04:11Thanks.
04:11Thanks, guys.
04:43Morning, sir. You good?
04:46No, I am not good.
04:48What's wrong?
04:50Turns out I am an uncle.
04:52Yes, Mum. Yes, I am. I started.
04:55What's I came to visit Uncle Merv anyway?
04:58That's Eloise. The niece I didn't know I had.
05:01So you're her Uncle Merv.
05:03No, I'm not. I mean, yes, I am her uncle, but not Merv.
05:07Never Merv, understood?
05:08OK. Clearly touched a nerve there.
05:13Well, I kind of miss him.
05:14So she's Solomon's daughter?
05:16I don't know why he couldn't just tell me that in the first place.
05:18He could have just said, well, as it happens, I do have a daughter.
05:21Are he and her mother together?
05:23Yeah, not for some time, apparently.
05:25She's supposed to be staying with her Auntie Merv.
05:27But she doesn't like it there, so she ran away and came here.
05:31They've got a case, I assume?
05:33Oh, my God.
05:34Oh, my God. It's not a murder case, is it?
05:37Please let me come on a ride along, Uncle Merv.
05:40Please.
05:40Right.
05:41So, firstly, you're not coming on any ride-along.
05:44And secondly, it's not Uncle Merv.
05:47It's Mervyn, remember?
05:50Hi. I'm Naomi, by the way.
05:53I work with your Uncle Merv.
05:57Right. Go pack your stuff, young lady.
06:00You've got a boat to catch.
06:01I am sending you back home to Antigua.
06:03Whatever you say, Uncle Merv.
06:05And it's not...
06:09I like her.
06:15Victim's name's Giles Parry, 58 years of age.
06:18Body was found floating six miles out at sea.
06:21Sergeant Fletcher's with the Coast Guard now.
06:23A couple of fishermen going out early this morning came across the body.
06:27But paramedics reckon he'd been in the water since last night.
06:31Thing is, this is already causing a stir on the heart.
06:35Why is that?
06:36Because of those marks on his body.
06:40They're all over his front and his back.
06:42And the bruising here.
06:44Some people are saying it was caused by the Luska.
06:48And that's what killed him.
06:49Sorry, what?
06:51It's a sea monster.
06:52A sea monster?
06:53Like a local legend kind of thing.
06:56Half shark, half octopus.
06:58Wraps its tentacles around you and drags you under.
07:00Hence...
07:01A sea monster?
07:02Not everybody believes in this thing.
07:04Most people don't.
07:06Do you?
07:07No, but it's still part of our history.
07:11Part of our culture.
07:12Right.
07:13Well, we can knock that theory on the head as a possible cause of death, all right?
07:16Except there's a little more to it than that, sir.
07:19That's why he's here.
07:27I've always wondered whether this would come back to haunt me.
07:31Seven years ago, yesterday,
07:33Giles Parry's 16-year-old son, Benjamin, ground that sea.
07:40In the exact same location as Giles' body was found this morning.
07:46A local fisherman told me that Mr. Parry had sailed out to that spot yesterday to pay his respects.
07:56Then he ended up dead himself.
08:00Was he stormy yesterday?
08:02Call the harbour master.
08:04It was calm for the last 24 hours.
08:06Do we know what time he left the harbour?
08:08Just before seven o'clock, according to the GPS.
08:12Also, there's a boat mechanic who's been fixing Mr. Parry's engine.
08:16He saw him leave.
08:17He says there was definitely nobody else on the boat with him.
08:20It's arrived at a final destination half an hour later.
08:24Radar shows no other boat near it at any point.
08:26So, what happened to him?
08:29How did he end up dead with all those weird markings on him?
08:33Unless, you know, it was the last guy.
08:38I hate to break it to you, Officer Rose, but sea monsters don't exist.
08:41No, yeah, I know.
08:44But it'd be cool if they did do all right.
08:47What's that?
08:56It's a bullet.
08:58Our victim wasn't shot, right?
09:01No.
09:02And there was no gun found on the boat?
09:04Not that I've found so far.
09:10So, what is that doing here?
09:20I don't know what happened on that boat,
09:23but the fact that we found this on it means it's suspicious.
09:27I think someone else was there, you know?
09:34I'm going to talk to Catherine.
09:37From what I know,
09:38James Parry was an isolated figure,
09:41but he did drink at her bar,
09:42and he would talk to her.
09:45I'm also going to contact the Guadalupe police
09:48and request the Benjamin Parry case files.
09:52So, the search back then wasn't led by the St. Marie team?
09:55As it was the Guadalupe Coast Guard
09:58who was first contacted when the empty boat was discovered,
10:02they staked there clean.
10:05I bet that rankled.
10:06I did push for us to have a role,
10:08but the senior investigating officer
10:11wasn't interested.
10:17There's some people on St. Marie
10:19who think I should have pressed harder,
10:22especially when they ran into a dead end earlier on.
10:27It's always been felt
10:28more could have been done
10:31than by me.
10:37Considering I am already
10:40persona non grata,
10:42I would like to do my bit
10:44to try and solve this case now
10:47and win back the community's trust.
10:50I've located the victim's ex-wife.
10:53She and her partner
10:54are staying at a hotel just outside Tom.
11:05We arrived here two days ago
11:06to mark the anniversary of Kara's son's passing.
11:10And I'm sorry to ask, Miss Smart,
11:13but your son Benjamin,
11:15why did he take the boat out on his own?
11:19Giles had always been into UFOs
11:22and aliens, that kind of thing.
11:24Our holidays were spent visiting Loch Ness
11:27or the Bermuda Triangle.
11:29The Luska here on St. Marie.
11:31Ben was getting even more fanatical
11:33than he stood.
11:34That's why he snuck out on his own
11:37and took the boat we'd hired out
11:39for a last-ditch sighting of the Luska.
11:42The weather turned bad.
11:44The sea was rough.
11:46He never came back.
11:52I kept hoping they'd find him alive
11:55with a life jacket on,
11:56just floating somewhere.
11:58As time passed,
11:59you have to accept that he's not coming back.
12:03So you returned home to England?
12:06After 10 months,
12:08Giles and I were arguing nonstop by then.
12:11I just needed some space,
12:13some time to process it all.
12:15Whereas he...
12:20Giles was convinced the Luska took their son.
12:24He became obsessed.
12:26That's why he stayed on here when I left,
12:28to try and prove the Luska exists.
12:31And he really, truly believed in it.
12:37And yesterday, did you see Giles at all?
12:40We had an early dinner at five.
12:43It's great to finally meet you, Giles.
12:45And how was that?
12:47How was Giles then?
12:48It was fine.
12:49It was fine.
12:49You know, quiet.
12:51Giles was Giles.
12:53Still as delusional as he ever was.
12:56Did Giles ever own a gun at all?
12:58Not why we were together.
13:00And I struggled to leave.
13:02He bought one while he was out here.
13:04What exactly happened to Giles?
13:06You said that he was found dead at sea.
13:08I assumed it was an accident,
13:09but is there more to it than that?
13:13Well, we're not sure yet.
13:15We're still working on that one.
13:25Yeah, my friend's dad swears
13:28he saw the Luska one time.
13:29Okay, son, come on.
13:31It's never the same afterwards.
13:34Just keep our focus on the keys.
14:03Fancy Vondra.
14:04I mean, Vondra.
14:12Vondra, Vondra, it's all right.
14:14She's back at my place.
14:15She's safe.
14:16Thanks.
14:16Okay, look, I'll call you back in a bit.
14:19Mo?
14:22Hey, Uncle Mo.
14:23Hope you're hungry.
14:24I ordered Lutz.
14:26Which reminds me,
14:27I borrowed your credit card this morning.
14:29Needed it to pay for the boat
14:30to get back to St Marie.
14:32And dinner.
14:33You really are your father's daughter, aren't you?
14:34I know, right?
14:37What's going on, Eloise?
14:38Why are you back here?
14:41Because we need to talk
14:42about dad.
14:44We could have done that this morning.
14:46Why didn't you mention it then?
14:47I was waiting for the right moment.
14:49And before I know it,
14:51you're shoving me on her boat back home.
14:55All right.
14:56What about you, dad?
14:59We need to work out a plan, Uncle Merv.
15:01A plan for what?
15:03To get him out of prison.
15:04To find evidence that proves he's innocent.
15:08Okay, um...
15:09What exactly did your dad tell you
15:12about him being arrested?
15:13Just that he was set up
15:15and shouldn't be in jail.
15:17That it's a miscarriage.
15:20A miscarriage of justice.
15:24So, we need to help him, right?
15:29Why don't you go and get some plates and cutlery, yeah?
15:39So, you idiots.
16:01Solomon clearly hasn't told her
16:02about the scam he got caught up in.
16:04That he is as good as shot someone.
16:07And held me hostage.
16:10He's dressed it up like he was the victim.
16:13And she obviously idolizes him.
16:16What are you going to do?
16:18I should just tell her the truth, right?
16:22Just tell her in a nice way.
16:25Not in a...
16:27your kind of way.
16:29What is her my kind of way?
16:31You know, sometimes you can be a...
16:34tiny bit insensitive.
16:37Insensitive?
16:38Me?
16:39Insensitive?
16:40That is rubbish.
16:41I mean, if anything,
16:42it's everyone else who is too sensitive.
16:45Sure.
16:46That's totally what it is.
16:51Hey, Louise.
16:55Right, um...
16:56I'm off to work now.
16:58So, we can have dinner later, yeah?
17:01And we'll, um...
17:04We'll talk.
17:05Okay, Uncle Mark.
17:09Old school.
17:10I like it.
17:16Right.
17:17Where are we at with the case?
17:19Anything from the lab yet?
17:21Post-mortem's estimating time of death between 7.30 and 8 p.m.
17:26So, the victim leaves the harbour at 7, dies between 7.30 and 8, out at sea, just after he
17:35drops anchor?
17:35And, cause of death, was internal bleeding due to a ruptured spleen, which, in theory, could have been caused by
17:44something gripping him tightly, like the tentacles of the lusk.
17:50Or, more likely, something else?
17:55Same with the red markings.
17:57Kinda like friction burns.
17:59But, there's nothing that they seem to suggest what might have caused it.
18:03What about the search of the victim's house?
18:05Um, Mattia and Seba are just starting.
18:23Sarge, you have to see this.
18:26Ten-year-old Seb will be losing his mind right now.
18:30Like sea monster central in here.
18:36This is gonna be the best search ever.
18:39Alright, officer rules.
18:40You start on the computer, I'll hit the cabinets.
18:42Ah, cool.
18:50You alright, Sarge?
18:52Yeah, it's just my old boss from Jamaica, I'll call him once we're done with this.
18:56Alright.
19:07So, what do we know about our victim?
19:09Giles Parry worked as a paramedic back in the UK until he moved out here seven years ago.
19:15Spent all his savings buying a boat and earned a small income giving talks about the legend of the luska.
19:21What about these two?
19:22Any sniff of the motive yet?
19:24We're still waiting on Mr. Lyons' background and financial checks.
19:28But, he and Cara have been together just over a year.
19:31Met on a dating app.
19:32Now, as he only met the victim for the first time yesterday,
19:36I'm struggling to find a reason for him wanting Mr. Parry dead.
19:39But, she's a different story.
19:41Miss Smart previously worked as a teacher before giving that up to write a book a few years ago.
19:47A memoir about losing her son.
19:50I skim read it and she's very honest about how hurt and angry she felt about Giles' behaviour.
19:57When I needed my husband's love the most, he disappeared down the rabbit hole of fantasy,
20:03casting me aside for his futile belief in a mythical beast.
20:07I mean, the guy had gone full on Looney Tunes, didn't he?
20:10What was that you said earlier about not being insensitive?
20:14Look, I'm not...
20:15Where it gets interesting is the book's no longer bringing in any money.
20:20She's basically broke.
20:21I spoke to her literary agent in the UK and apparently,
20:25a US TV production company has offered to make a documentary about her and Giles' son going missing.
20:31It's worth a quarter of a million dollars.
20:35Oh, I'm sensing a but.
20:36But it going ahead was dependent on Mr. Parry agreeing to appear in the documentary too.
20:44Don't tell me.
20:45He didn't want to.
20:52So we spoke to the staff here.
20:54Well, that dinner you had with Giles, it wasn't as sedate as you said it was.
20:59According to them, you got quite worked up, Miss Smart.
21:03Angry that your ex-husband was refusing to agree to the documentary.
21:07Well, that's an exaggeration if ever I heard one.
21:09No, it's not. It's the truth.
21:11Giles, please, I need this.
21:12Why are you being so stubborn?
21:14Because I know what they'll do.
21:16Make me have to look like some mad conspiracy theorist.
21:18I hate you, Charles.
21:20So much.
21:23I didn't just lose a son seven years ago.
21:26I lost my husband as well.
21:28He never once thought of me that maybe he needed to be there for me.
21:34And even now, years later, I ask for his help because, yes, I need the money.
21:39I thought at least he owed me that one favour, but...
21:43No, not even that.
21:45Thing is, Miss Smart, we checked with the production company,
21:48and that documentary's officially got the go-ahead.
21:50So now with Giles dying in suspicious circumstances,
21:53and even the locals saying it was the Lusker that did it,
21:56well, it's an even more tantalising proposition than it was before.
21:59You get exactly what you wanted.
22:00No, you're wrong.
22:01I didn't kill Charles to get some documentary made.
22:05I'm not that desperate.
22:08I'll hesitate this.
22:11So you want to tell me where you were two nights ago between 7.30 and 8?
22:15We were here at the hotel.
22:18We were together in our room.
22:22It wasn't me. It just wasn't.
22:26Sir.
22:32That was my tissues with the commissioner.
22:34They've got something.
22:44This is the closest I've come to actually seeing it.
22:47The Lusker.
22:48I'm still shaking from what happened.
22:51If ever there was proof she's out there, this is it.
22:53I've moored my boat a few miles out.
22:55The coordinates are...
22:5716 degrees, 32 minutes, 29.8 seconds north.
23:0161 degrees, 55 minutes, 0.1.8 seconds west.
23:04There's a sinkhole on the seabed there
23:06where I previously identified as a possible home for the creature.
23:09Amazing.
23:11It was just getting dark.
23:12I heard it.
23:13I felt it.
23:14I thought as it hit the bow of the boat.
23:17And again, and then again.
23:18I could hear it dragging itself along as it tried to pull away.
23:22It was her.
23:22I know it was.
23:24The Lusker.
23:26I've got to go back again tonight.
23:30Totally amazing.
23:37Just to confirm,
23:38no one here actually thinks it was the Lusker
23:41that was underneath Giles Parry's boat.
23:43Well, I'm not ruling it out, Inspector.
23:46Apart from Officer Rose.
23:46No, of course we don't.
23:48But there is more to it.
23:51Giles Parry uploaded this vlog to his website two days before his death.
23:55We checked his GPS,
23:56and he went back to the same exact location the next night, here.
24:03And this isn't the same location Giles' body was found?
24:07Where his son, Benjamin, went missing?
24:09No, that was two miles away here.
24:11But the thing is,
24:13when Giles got back,
24:14he deleted this video straight away.
24:17So why?
24:18Catherine spoke to him shortly after.
24:20And he seemed troubled.
24:23Everything all right, Giles?
24:27He asked me about the Commissioner.
24:30Knew I was friends with him,
24:31and said he might need to speak with him.
24:34Is it to do with Benjamin's disappearance?
24:38I don't know.
24:40Maybe.
24:48Hang on.
24:49These are the same coldness he talked about in his vlog.
24:51I don't know what happened there,
24:53but it's clearly of significance.
24:58We should go out there.
24:59Do a reenactment, yeah?
25:01Same time, same place, same boat.
25:03Find out what this X is all about.
25:05I was so hoping you was going to say that, Inspector.
25:08I can't believe you're going on a monster hunt.
25:11That's not what we're doing.
25:12That's not what you're doing.
25:21I don't understand.
25:23If you're going on a boat trip,
25:25why can't I come?
25:26Because it might be dangerous.
25:28Well, then I really want to come.
25:30Well, you can't.
25:31You're staying with Catherine tonight,
25:32and we're getting you home first thing in the morning, all right?
25:35But we need to talk about Dad still.
25:41OK.
25:43Look, about your dad.
25:44I don't know what he told you,
25:46but it certainly wasn't factual.
25:48What he was arrested for, it's serious.
25:51And I should know, because I was there when it happened.
25:55What are you saying?
25:58Eloise.
26:01Listen, there was no miscarriage of justice, all right?
26:05He wasn't falsely accused.
26:06Your dad is guilty.
26:08So, no, I can't help you find new evidence.
26:12And he'll be in prison for a while.
26:15I'm sorry.
26:18So, what happens now?
26:20I just go back home in the morning?
26:23Yeah, of course.
26:25I mean, that's where your mum is, right?
26:27And you don't want to stay with me, do you?
26:30Of course I don't.
26:32I've got a life to get on with.
26:35So, what's your problem?
26:38This must be Eloise.
26:41It's nice to meet you.
26:43Hey, thanks for looking after me.
26:46See you all, Robin.
26:53So, my chef, will you cook you anything you want?
27:11Hey, Inspector.
27:13Ready for my car start?
27:14Uh-huh.
27:17You know, sir, this isn't exactly the safest boat I've been on.
27:21The two life rings there are missing their ropes,
27:24so let's hope no one goes overboard.
27:34Is that the Benjamin Perry case for?
27:37Oh, just arrived from Guadalupe.
27:39Commissioner's making a start going through a town.
28:03Can I speak to you for a minute about a private master commissioner?
28:14Of course.
28:15I got a couple of missed calls for my old bus in Jamaica today, and I haven't called him back.
28:22Because I think I know what it's to do with.
28:25He phoned me as well, actually.
28:29Damond Dyer was acquitted on all costs.
28:33He's a free man.
28:36I'm sorry.
28:38Have you told any of the team?
28:42Uh, Seb knows I had a boyfriend that I broke up with before I came here, and I told him
28:50that I had messed up on a case.
28:53When I thought the two were connected, then my ex is a criminal.
29:00I think I'd rather keep it that way for now.
29:04Nearing the destination, now, Commissioner. Dropping the anchor soon.
29:08Thank you, Officer Rawls.
29:11Aye, aye, Captain. Aye, aye.
29:20Must have been frustrating, not having oversight of that case.
29:33Delosco?
29:34It can't be.
29:35Whatever it is, it's the same song Giles Barry heard.
29:42You hear that?
29:44Yeah, we heard it.
29:45Can you see anything?
29:46No, it's not Delosco.
29:48Sure, so like it is.
29:49Can you see anything outside?
29:51No, nothing.
29:52Me neither.
29:53Anything now?
29:54Over here, there's something moving.
29:55Where?
29:56Yes, Thomas?
29:57There's something down there. I can see him moving.
30:00Sergeant Fletcher, what are you doing?
30:03That ain't no sea monster.
30:07Matty!
30:20Superwoman!
30:21You've got my air supply!
30:22Hey, that's Kevin Mason.
30:24He runs a boat excursion business in the harbour.
30:27There's some sort of box under there.
30:29It looks like it's time to wait.
30:31Stop it moving!
30:46Inspector, here's the box with salvage from the sea.
30:52You're gun.
30:53You're gun.
30:53We found on your jet ski, Mr. Mason.
30:58Your keys.
30:59Let's see if one of these fits, shall we?
31:05Your box.
31:17Cocaine, I'm guessing.
31:19Around two kilos.
31:21You'll be charged for this.
31:25Look, I'm just a middleman, all right?
31:28I don't sell it.
31:30I don't buy it.
31:31I just make some extra money moving it from A to B.
31:33Giles Parry was on to you, wasn't he?
31:36At first, he thought it was the Luska making those noises beneath his boat.
31:43I didn't know he'd moored above me.
31:45Couldn't stop myself from hitting it when I came back up.
31:48That's what he heard.
31:49Me banging against the bottom of his boat.
31:51And when he went to the same location a second time to try and catch sight of it...
31:56The Luska.
31:58I've got to go back again tonight.
31:59He discovered what you were up to.
32:01That's why he was talking about going to the police.
32:04He said he might need to speak with him.
32:07I didn't know he'd seen me.
32:09When I went back to the harbour...
32:11I know what you're up to, Kelvin.
32:13I pleaded with him not to say anything to the police.
32:17Got to know Giles quite a bit over the years.
32:20Helped him with his research a couple of times, so...
32:23I thought he might give me a chance.
32:25And?
32:26He told me he'd think about it.
32:30But didn't reckon he could ignore it.
32:33And next thing he's found floating six miles out at sea, dead.
32:36I didn't do that to him, I swear.
32:39He's kind of yours.
32:40What calibre is it?
32:42It's a nine millimetre.
32:43Why?
32:44Because he found a nine millimetre bullet on Giles Perry's boat.
32:48Is that a coincidence, Mr Mason?
32:49Yes, it is.
32:50I wasn't anywhere near his boat when he died.
32:53Mr Mason, you were questioned seven years ago when Giles' son disappeared, as a witness.
33:01Everybody around the harbour was.
33:03Was that got to do with anything?
33:04So, that also is just a coincidence.
33:08Yes, it is.
33:10Look, if it wasn't you then, where were you at 7.30 the night Giles Perry was murdered?
33:15Um, I was taking a drink with a guy who works for me.
33:19Um, a fella named Jackson.
33:22You fancy another?
33:24Call him, ask him, he'll tell you.
33:25I swear.
33:30But, there's something else you all need to know.
33:33Something that happened before Giles took his boat out.
33:37Poor guy.
33:39I went to speak with him to see if he changed his mind about talking with the police.
33:45When I turned the corner, he was arguing with someone.
33:50Giles called him Rory.
33:52I know your game, Rory.
33:54Giles said he had evidence of some kind.
33:57I didn't hear what.
33:59But he took out this folder and he gave it to him.
34:02Now that the Rory fella, he didn't seem too happy.
34:05He got a bit physical.
34:07He shoved Giles.
34:09Giles fell over and hurt himself.
34:12Then what did you do?
34:13I turned and left.
34:30Right, let's get over to the hotel.
34:32Let's interview our new suspect.
34:39Sir, with respect, shouldn't we just focus on solving the Giles Perry case right now?
34:45This isn't a cold case investigation.
34:47And we've got a new lead now.
34:49I just have this feeling the answer lies right here in front of me.
34:53If only I knew what it was.
34:55Okay.
35:00I admit we argued, Giles and I.
35:03It was more than an argument, Mr Lyons, from what we were told.
35:08Things might have got a bit physical, but what he was saying upset me.
35:12Which was what exactly?
35:13That I was only with Kara for her money.
35:18Rory only told me about this last night.
35:21Giles had to scrabble together enough money to pay a private investigator to look into Rory and his ex.
35:29That's what he found.
35:33So your previous partner invested in your business, which went bankrupt.
35:41She's still chasing you for money?
35:43It was a total mess I made, financially and personally.
35:49Everything in that file, it's all true.
35:52Apart from the suggestion that I'm doing the same again with Kara, because I'm not.
35:56I think that's why Giles wouldn't agree to the documentary.
35:59He thought that Rory would take the money.
36:01But I don't want a penny.
36:03I just want to be with Kara.
36:06So why did you follow Mr Perry down to the harbour after dinner?
36:10Because he was being so unforgiving towards Kara.
36:13Saying that she was using their son's tragedy to line her own pockets.
36:16I wanted him to know the truth.
36:23We're adopting a baby.
36:25Starting a family.
36:27And it's taken all the courage in the world for her to do this.
36:31And you told him?
36:38All Kara wants is to be a family.
36:46I get through him.
36:47Then he picked up his things and got on his boat.
36:50And that's the last time you saw him?
36:55Mr Lyons?
36:56Rory?
36:59He phoned me.
37:01And I got back to the hotel about half an hour later.
37:05He was out at sea.
37:08What did he say?
37:10He asked if I loved Kara.
37:13Like, he needed to get it confirmed.
37:17And you said?
37:21Yes, I do.
37:23So very much.
37:29Then he just hung up.
37:49So a few minutes before he dies,
37:51Giles Parry phones his ex-wife's new partner
37:54to ask if he loves her.
37:56That doesn't sound like he was being attacked by a sea monster
37:59or murdered.
38:00Nope.
38:01It sounds to me like a guy who'd
38:02finally made his peace with the world.
38:05Which kind of makes me wonder,
38:07you know.
38:09Did Giles Parry take his own life?
38:11But then try to make it look like it was the Lusker that did it
38:14to prove to everyone that he was right all along?
38:18That doesn't feel right.
38:20Anyway, that doesn't explain the bullet.
38:22Why was that there?
38:24So what happened?
38:25He was alone on that boat,
38:27six miles out at sea,
38:28and our three suspects were all on dry land when he died.
38:32How and why did he end up dead?
38:38Maybe these two have the answer.
38:41Just come straight from the lab.
38:43Please tell me it's good news.
38:45There are no striation marks on the bullet.
38:48So they can't match it to Kelvin Mason's gun.
38:51Same make, same calibre, but...
38:53Hang on.
38:53No striation marks at all?
38:55Said they've been worn a wave
38:57by incrustation of marine organisms.
39:01Corrosion patterns suggest
39:03that bullet has been on the seabed for six to eight years.
39:06Basically, they're just saying the bullet is some sea debris.
39:09But that doesn't explain
39:10how we ended up on the boat in the first place.
39:19Did Giles Parry take his own life?
39:21The two liferings there are missing their ropes.
39:24Giles Parry worked as a paramedic back in the UK
39:27until he moved out here seven years ago.
39:30Now that the Rory fella,
39:31he didn't seem too happy.
39:32Got a bit physical.
39:34Is it to do with Benjamin's disappearance?
39:37I don't know.
39:38He asked if I loved Kara.
39:41Bingo.
39:42I know what happened to Giles
39:44and how he ended up dead like that.
39:52Oh.
40:00Sir, we'll crack the case.
40:03Benjamin Parry's disappearance.
40:05I think I know what happened.
40:10Spot the difference.
40:33We have a lot to thank this little bullet for.
40:36It's helped us make sense of the present and the past.
40:40In the present,
40:42it's what solved the mystery of your ex-husband's death, Miss Smart.
40:45Leading me to finally understand
40:47why and how Giles Parry's body was found dead in the water,
40:51looking like the Lusker,
40:53the legendary sea monster he'd spent seven years searching for,
40:57had finally caught up with him.
40:58And in terms of the past?
41:01We'll come to that, surely.
41:03Throughout this case,
41:05we've worked on the basis that whatever happened to Mr Parry,
41:08it all happened at the same time while he was out at sea.
41:12But we've now realised that his injuries were actually sustained in two separate locations.
41:20The first injury, the bruising to his stomach and the rupturing of his spleen,
41:26that happened on dry land, down by the harbour, when you and he tussled, Rory.
41:32You're saying it was me?
41:34You will be charged with involuntary manslaughter.
41:37We know you didn't mean to kill Giles.
41:40Far from it.
41:41However, his subsequent fall from your push caused a serious internal injury.
41:50He just didn't know it at the time.
41:52Oh, my God.
41:54Giles was totally unaware that his life was slipping away.
41:57That's why he walked away from you, got on his boat and went out to sea.
42:03He was probably already a few miles out when he started to feel ill.
42:09Initially, some discomforts in his abdomen, feeling faint, feverish.
42:15But it was only by the time he reached his destination,
42:19six miles from land, that he fully comprehended what was happening.
42:25We know Giles used to be a paramedic,
42:28so it's safe to assume he worked out what was wrong,
42:32that he had minutes left to live.
42:36I'm so sorry.
42:38And if his imminent death wasn't a grim enough prospect,
42:41Mr Parry also realised that if his body was found on deck,
42:45we would start to question how he was fatally injured.
42:48And the post-mortem would more than likely lead back to the altercation
42:52he had with you, Mr Lyons, and subsequently, some time in prison.
42:56And knowing what you told him about yourself and Kara wanting to start a family,
43:02well, he didn't want to inflict any further suffering on you both.
43:05That's the way he phoned.
43:08And asked Rory if he loved me.
43:10That's why he needed to know, to be sure.
43:14Do you love her?
43:16He could protect you both by making it look like he killed himself.
43:24It was Dias Tomasi who noticed the ropes were missing from the life rings on Giles' boat.
43:29The two life rings there are missing their ropes,
43:32so let's hope no one goes overboard.
43:34I didn't think anything of it at first.
43:36But then when I started to understand what happened that day,
43:40that's when I realized why those ropes weren't there.
43:48And hopefully this call will confirm it.
43:52Yeah?
43:53They found the ropes tied to the boat's spare battery on the seabed.
43:57Okay.
43:58Thank you, Sergeant Fletcher.
44:02So, we think Giles knew
44:04that if he tied those ropes around his body tightly enough,
44:08then leave red markings.
44:10Friction burn.
44:11And therefore, when his body was found,
44:13he hoped this would also explain his internal injuries.
44:17The bruising.
44:18All so it would misdirect from you, Mr. Lyons.
44:23Any similarities to the Luska was a coincidence.
44:26If that's what happened,
44:28why was his body found floating on the surface?
44:31Because of this.
44:34As Giles sank to the seabed,
44:37by some quirk of fate,
44:39he saw this bullet.
44:41Maybe it got caught under a rock
44:44or wedged in some coral.
44:47We can't be sure.
44:49But there it was.
44:50A single bullet.
44:53In the same spot his son went missing.
44:56And after his recent discovery of the smuggling
44:59that was going on out at sea,
45:01not far from the same spot,
45:03Giles was already beginning to suspect
45:05that his son's,
45:06your son's disappearance,
45:08might have been for more sinister reasons.
45:10Is it to do with Benjamin's disappearance?
45:13Maybe.
45:14So we believe
45:15he loosened the rope,
45:18grabbed the bullet,
45:19and allowed himself to float to the surface,
45:22determined to cling to life as long as possible.
45:27But by then,
45:28it was already too late for him to climb back on board his boat.
45:31So with his life ebbing away,
45:34Giles did one last thing.
45:36One final attempt to let everyone know
45:38what he discovered on the seabed.
45:42He threw this bullet onto the deck.
45:45A message from him to us
45:47to not give up on his son.
45:49But maybe
45:51Ben's killer was still out there.
45:54That's what you meant about the bullet helping with the past.
45:58My son's case.
46:01And has it?
46:10That bullet we found,
46:12it turns out
46:14it's been sat on the seabed
46:16for the last seven years
46:18in the exact same location
46:20Giles and Kara's son
46:22went missing.
46:24It was fired from your gun
46:26to kill
46:27Benjamin Parry.
46:30But he drowned at sea.
46:32Why are you no saying he was shot?
46:40This photograph
46:41was taken the day before
46:44Benjamin went missing.
46:47It's of him and his father
46:48outside your office.
46:52And this
46:53was taken by one of the Guadalupe police officers
46:56the day after
46:58he disappeared.
47:00Your witness statement
47:01is unremarkable
47:04in every way
47:05apart from
47:07this photograph.
47:09I had to get
47:10the magnifying glass out
47:12to really
47:13notice.
47:14But
47:15in this photograph
47:16of Benjamin
47:17and his father
47:18the wall
47:20behind your desk
47:21is set
47:22farther back
47:23from the window
47:24than it is
47:25in this photograph
47:27of you
47:27where it appears
47:2940 or 50 centimeters
47:31closer to it.
47:33Which
47:34left me wondering
47:35why
47:36less than
47:3748 hours later
47:40your office
47:41had seemingly
47:43shrunk.
47:44The only conclusion
47:46I could draw
47:47was because
47:47a new wall
47:49had been built.
47:50leaving Benjamin's
47:52body at sea
47:53would have meant
47:54there was a possibility
47:55he could be formed.
47:57and if he was
48:00then it would be discovered
48:02that he'd been shot.
48:04Whereas
48:05if you hid
48:07his body
48:08and everybody assumed
48:10he drowned at sea
48:11then
48:12maybe you'd get
48:14away with it.
48:17But where
48:19to hide it?
48:21We have a team
48:22at your office
48:23as we speak
48:24about to
48:25tear down
48:27that wall.
48:28So
48:29if
48:30I'm wrong
48:31about what's been
48:32hidden behind it
48:33the last seven years
48:34you have nothing
48:35to worry about.
48:37But
48:38if I am right
48:41now is your chance
48:42to start talking.
48:56That morning
48:59seven years ago
49:02it was real early
49:06but when I got back up
49:07with the day's delivery
49:10he was there
49:11recording me
49:12on his phone
49:14for evidence
49:16I mean
49:17stupid idiot
49:18why would you do that?
49:20Because you left me
49:21no choice.
49:23I had to act fast
49:25so I got the lockbox
49:27which you moved
49:29to a new location
49:30two miles away
49:32where your
49:33smuggling
49:34continued
49:35until Giles Parry
49:37discovered
49:38what you were doing
49:39all these years
49:40and
49:41Benjamin Parry's body
49:48I took it
49:49I took it ashore
49:52I put him
49:53in one of the cases
49:55we stole
49:56the diving gear
49:57it's airtight
49:58so
50:00I spent the whole day
50:01getting everything
50:03I needed
50:04for that wall
50:06I spent the whole night
50:08building it
50:10and I have lived
50:11with it
50:11every day
50:13since
50:13Mind how you go
50:15and y'all let me know
50:17how it went
50:17you're with
50:18real pirate royalty
50:19now
50:20knowing that poor boy
50:22is stuck behind
50:24that wall
50:25will haunt me
50:26forever
50:31ever
50:32Galvin Mason
50:33I'm arresting you
50:35for the murder
50:36of Benjamin Parry
50:37you do not have to say
50:38anything
50:39but it may harm
50:40your defense
50:40if you do not mention
50:42my question
50:51this call
50:52is from a person
50:53currently in prison
50:54in Antigua
50:58Solomon
50:58I know you said
51:01you didn't want
51:01anything to do
51:02with me no more
51:02but this isn't about me
51:03it's about Eloise
51:05I know she ran away
51:06from her aunt
51:07and came to you
51:07because she doesn't
51:08like it there
51:08no
51:09it's because you told her
51:10you were innocent
51:11and I'd get you out
51:12you lied to her
51:13maybe I was a bit
51:14free and easy
51:15with the truth
51:15but
