41:13Leading me to finally understand why and how Giles Parry's body was found dead in the water,
41:19looking like the Lusker, the legendary sea monster he'd spent seven years searching for,
41:25had finally caught up with him.
41:26And in terms of the past?
41:29We'll come to that shortly.
41:31Throughout this case, we've worked on the basis that whatever happened to Mr. Parry,
41:36it all happened at the same time while he was out at sea.
41:41But we've now realised that his injuries were actually sustained in two separate locations.
41:48The first injury, the bruising to his stomach and the rupturing of his spleen,
41:53that happened on dry land, down by the harbour, when you and he tussled Rory.
42:00You're saying it was me?
42:02You will be charged with involuntary manslaughter.
42:05We know you didn't mean to kill Giles. Far from it.
42:09However, his subsequent fall from your push caused a serious internal injury.
42:17He just didn't know it at the time.
42:20Oh, my God.
42:22Giles was totally unaware that his life was slipping away.
42:25That's why he walked away from you, got on his boat and went out to sea.
42:31He was probably already a few miles out when he started to feel ill.
42:36Initially, some discomfort in his abdomen, feeling faint, feverish.
42:43But it was only by the time he reached his destination six miles from land that he fully comprehended what
42:51was happening.
42:53We know Giles used to be a paramedic, so it's safe to assume he worked out what was wrong.
43:00That he had minutes left to live.
43:04I'm so sorry.
43:06And if his imminent death wasn't a grim enough prospect, Mr. Parry also realised that if his body was found
43:12on deck,
43:13we would start to question how he was fatally injured.
43:16And the post-mortem would more than likely lead back to the altercation he had with you, Mr. Lyons.
43:21And subsequently, some time in prison.
43:24And knowing what you told him about yourself and Kara wanting to start a family,
43:30well, he didn't want to inflict any further suffering on you both.
43:33That's the way he phoned.
43:36And asked Rory if he loved me.
43:38That's why he needed to know, to be sure.
43:42Do you love her?
43:43He could protect you both by making it look like he killed himself.
43:52It was Dias Thomas here who noticed the ropes were missing from the life rings on Giles' boat.
43:57The two life rings there are missing their ropes, so let's hope no one goes overboard.
44:02I didn't think anything of it at first.
44:04But then when I started to understand what happened that day,
44:08that's when I realised why those ropes weren't there.
44:16And hopefully this call will confirm it.

44:21They found the ropes tied to the boat's spare battery on the seabed.

44:30So, we think Giles knew that if he tied those ropes around his body tightly enough,
44:36then leave red markings, friction burn.
44:39And therefore, when his body was found, he hoped this would also explain his internal injuries,
44:45the bruising.
44:46All so it would misdirect from you, Mr. Lyons.
44:51Any similarities to the Luska was a coincidence.
44:54If that's what happened, why was his body found floating on the surface?
44:58Because of this, as Giles sank to the seabed, by some quirk of fate, he saw this bullet.
45:09Maybe it got caught under a rock or wedged in some coral.
45:15We can't be sure.
45:16But there it was, a single bullet in the same spot his son went missing.
45:24And after his recent discovery of the smuggling that was going on out at sea,
45:29not far from the same spot,
45:31Giles was already beginning to suspect that his son's,
45:34your son's disappearance might have been for more sinister reasons.
45:37Is it to do with Benjamin's disappearance?
45:41Maybe.
45:42So we believe he loosened the rope, grabbed the bullet,
45:47and allowed himself to float to the surface,
45:50determined to cling to life as long as possible.
45:55But by then, it was already too late for him to climb back on board his boat.
45:59So with his life ebbing away, Giles did one last thing.
46:04One final attempt to let everyone know what he discovered on the seabed.
46:10He threw this bullet onto the deck.
46:13A message from him to us to not give up on his son.
46:17But maybe Ben's killer was still out there.
46:22That's what you meant about the bullet helping with the past.
46:25My son's case.

46:40It turns out it's been sat on the seabed for the last seven years
46:46in the exact same location Giles Zankara's son went missing.

48:12The only conclusion I could draw was because a new wall had been built.
48:18But leaving Benjamin's body at sea would have meant there was a possibility he could be formed.
48:25And if he was, then it would be discovered that he'd been shot.
48:33Whereas if you hid his body and everybody assumed he drowned at sea,
48:39then maybe you'd get away with it.
48:45But where to hide it?
48:49We have a team at your office as we speak about to tear down that wall.
48:56So if I'm wrong about what's been hidden behind it the last seven years,
49:02you have nothing to worry about.
