00:00Airport lines right now were longer than they've ever been, and despite the Senate just voting to end the partial
00:04government shutdown, that probably won't mean much for a while.
00:06Trump decided he was going to send ICE agents to some of the busiest airports to help TSA agents get
00:12travelers through security checkpoints quicker.
00:14ICE agents aren't trained to do what TSA does.
00:16So most of what we've seen are ICE agents kind of wandering the concourses, playing on their phones, talking to
00:22each other, talking to passengers.
00:24More recently, we've seen ICE agents take a more active role.
00:27They've been screening travelers, checking their IDs, letting them into TSA checkpoints.
00:32ICE right now is really unpopular.
00:34Many Americans want reforms for the agency, and many other Americans also want it abolished.
00:39By Trump deploying a highly unpopular agency to airports, he's only reinforcing for voters why Democrats forced a partial government
00:46shutdown to begin with.
00:47Even DHS officials say they don't want to be in the headlines every day.
00:50It's going to take a while for things to get back to normal.
00:52One reason is because so many TSA workers have quit during the shutdown, and it's going to take a while
00:57to certify and train new ones.
00:59Trump on Thursday night announced that he was going to sign an executive order to pay TSA, though it's unclear
01:04where the funding is coming from.
01:06It appears to have pushed the Senate to pass a bill that would fund TSA as well.
01:09DHS's new secretary says he wants to fix the chaos at airports.
01:12But that might take a while, since the damage has already been done.
