00:00The International Olympic Committee has ruled that transgender women will be barred from competing
00:04in women's sports beginning with the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The IOC's announcement said that
00:08their decision, quote, protects fairness, safety and integrity in the female category. The prohibition
00:14is in line with President Trump's executive order that banned federal funds for any athletic
00:18organization that allowed biological males to participate in women's sports. That of course
00:22raised more than a few questions given that the games are coming stateside in just over two years.
00:27Now it's unclear how many athletes will actually be impacted by this decision. The IOC will enforce
00:32the ban with an SRY gene screening test that checks a person's chromosomal makeup to determine their
00:37biological gender. The ban will also apply to biological females who have a condition known
00:42as differences in sex development or DSD in which they have male levels of testosterone despite
00:48their chromosomal makeup.
