00:05From 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York, it's Late Night with Seth Meyers.
00:12Tonight, Jim Parson.
00:14Star of the drama, actress and musician Alana Haim.
00:18Comedian, Chris Fleming.
00:25And now, Seth Meyers.
00:28Good evening, I'm Seth Meyers.
00:30This is Late Night.
00:31We hope you're doing well.
00:32And now, if you don't mind, we're going to get to the news.
00:34President Trump visited Graceland yesterday and signed a guitar with a Sharpie.
00:39So, from now on, they're going to keep them behind glass.
00:45Sorry, President Trump visited Graceland yesterday and signed a guitar with a Sharpie.
00:48You can't sign someone else's guitar.
00:51How would you like it if I signed your subpoenas?
00:56During his visit to Graceland, President Trump asked an employee if he could have taken Elvis
01:02in a fight.
01:03I've got to hand it to Trump.
01:04It's pretty hard to come up with an Elvis question that a Graceland employee has never heard.
01:11I'm sorry, sir.
01:12Could you beat him in a fight?
01:14During a roundtable event yesterday in Memphis, President Trump praised FBI Director Cash
01:19Patel and said, quote,
01:19Once you get to know him, he's a wonderful guy.
01:21Man, he is the master of the backhanded compliment.
01:26Cash Patel, when you first meet him, he's the worst.
01:28Just an awful person.
01:29But then you get used to him.
01:31You don't like when you break your arm and have to wear a cast.
01:35While hosting the Naval Academy football team last week, President Trump said that
01:39former White House doctor, Congressman Ronnie Jackson, told him that if he did not eat junk
01:44food, he would live to be 200 years old.
01:46Wait a minute.
01:48He's not 200 years old?
01:51Every photo looks like he drank from the wrong chalice in Indiana Jones.
01:57In a new interview, President Trump said that his new White House ballroom will be protected
02:01from the outside and added, quote,
02:02If a drone hits it, it just explodes and just blows away.
02:06Well, sounds like they've been showing him cartoons.
02:10If a drone hits it, it just turns into dust.
02:13The dust falls into a little pile.
02:15Two eyes on top and the eyes, they just blink and the dust shuffles away.
02:21According to the latest numbers from New York's Department of Transportation,
02:25more than 70,000 potholes have been filled this year,
02:27which means they're almost ready to move on to the next street.
02:34In honor of its new 3 a.m. therapy initiative,
02:37the mental health care platform RULA announced that it will offer
02:40free therapy sessions this week to users between 2 and 4 o'clock in the morning.
02:45That's how you know life is stressful right now.
02:48Even therapists are wide awake in the middle of the night.
02:52A man in Pakistan recently broke the same Guinness World Record
02:55for a third time by doing 66 thumb push-ups in one minute.
02:59He also holds the record for most broken PlayStation controllers.
03:07And finally, authorities in Missouri recently discovered fentanyl
03:10in the packaging of Barbie dolls.
03:12Oh, let the poor lady have some fun!
03:16She's working 15 jobs!
03:19That was a monologue, everybody!
03:22You guys, great stuff for tonight.
03:24You know him in the Big Bang Theory as well as the boys in the band.
03:28Spoiler alert and the normal heart.
03:30See him next in Titanic, which comes to Broadway Thursday, March 26th.
03:34Jim Parsons is here, everybody!
03:38He's a more talented actress, musician.
03:41You know from Laker's Pizza, The Mastermind,
03:43One Battle After Another,
03:44and, of course, her Grammy-nominated band, Haim.
03:47Her new film, The Drama, is in theaters nationwide
03:50on Friday, April 3rd.
03:51Ilana Haim is on the show!
03:55And he is just a fantastic comedian.
03:58His new special, Chris Fleming, live at the Palace,
04:01is streaming now on HBO Max.
04:03It's unbelievable.
04:04You guys, Chris Fleming is going to be joining us.
04:07First time, I'm thrilled.
04:09Vincent D'Onofrio stopped by family trips.
04:12One of our favorite conversations, do give Vincent a listen.
04:16You guys, moving on.
04:17Here at Late Night Every Night, I deliver a monologue
04:19written up by, you know, jokes,
04:21written by a diverse team of writers.
04:23As a result, a lot of jokes come across my desk
04:25that due to my being a straight white male
04:28would be difficult for me to deliver.
04:31Maybe even inappropriate.
04:34But we don't stop, we don't think, excuse me,
04:36that should stop you from enjoying them.
04:38So we'd like to share them with you now
04:39in a segment called Jokes Seth Can't Tell.
04:46These are two of our writers, Amber and Jenny.
04:49I am black.
04:51And I'm gay.
04:52And we're both women.
04:54I am not.
04:55So here's how it works.
04:56I'll read the setups to these jokes,
04:57and Amber and Jenny will read the punchlines.
05:00Here we go.
05:01Two of social media influencers
05:03known as the Lipstick Lesbians
05:05are launching a makeup brand.
05:07It replaces the original makeup brand
05:09for lesbians, Chapstick.
05:13An event called the Black Restaurant Experience
05:16was held in Virginia on March 8th.
05:18They're still waiting for their food.
05:20Amber!
05:21But when they finally get that order,
05:24it will be wrong.
05:27According to a recent article,
05:29there are only 36 lesbian bars in the U.S.
05:32A lesbian bar is like a straight bar,
05:34except everyone's a bouncer.
05:37Today would have been baseball legend
05:39Hank Aaron's 92nd birthday.
05:42And if he were alive today,
05:44he'd say,
05:44it's still that bad?
05:48A new musical premiered last month
05:50that is a lesbian retelling
05:51of Cyrano de Bergerac.
05:53It's about a lesbian who whispers to straight women,
05:56leave your husband.
05:58The fast food chain Popeye's
06:00will open two new locations in Ireland.
06:03This is spicy,
06:05said Irish people about the biscuits.
06:08Amber, why can't white people handle spicy food?
06:12It's all that guilt.
06:15A new documentary premiered recently
06:18about filmmaker Barbara Hammer
06:20called Barbara Forever.
06:21Barbara Forever is also what lesbians say
06:23after one date with a woman named Barbara.
06:27According to a new survey,
06:2921% of dog owners said
06:30they have taken their pet for a spa day.
06:33This story was first reported
06:35in White People Monthly.
06:39Create the illusion of lips.
06:42The two and the four and how to find them.
06:45That's right.
06:46How to make it about you.
06:48That's right.
06:50Grey's Anatomy has introduced
06:51a new queer female character.
06:53Said the new character,
06:54how many fingers am I holding up?
07:03Hey, Seth, why don't you tell me?
07:05Oh, I couldn't.
07:06I certainly couldn't tell that last one.
07:09Oh, come on, just tell one.
07:11No, I feel like if I tell one,
07:12it won't end well.
07:13Please, do it for us.
07:14Okay, according to a new survey,
07:16only 5% of people in Germany
07:18thinks homosexuality.
07:20Let me try it again.
07:22You can't tell this joke either.
07:24I'm just, I can't stop thinking about
07:27Jenny's fingers.
07:29Buddy, you and every woman in America.
07:39According to a new survey,
07:41only 5% of people in Germany
07:43think homosexuality is unacceptable.
07:45Of course, it's hard to be homophobic
07:47when everyone in your country
07:48looks a little gay.
07:51Seth!
07:52All right, sorry.
07:53I think I understand what works
07:54and what doesn't.
07:55I'm going to try again
07:55and I'm going to nail it.
07:56Okay, good.
07:57During a recent speech,
07:58Kamala Harris, right?
07:59That's fun.
08:00Yeah.
08:01This can't go badly.
08:02No.
08:03Because she's a woman.
08:05She's also black.
08:06Great.
08:08During a recent speech,
08:09Kamala Harris said the extremists
08:11who wrote Florida's abortion ban
08:12quote,
08:13don't even know
08:13how a woman's body works.
08:15Damn.
08:16Must be her time of the month.
08:18How dare you?
08:20You told me it would be okay.
08:23You should be ashamed of yourself.
08:24Oh my God.
08:25Black women and lesbians are liars.
08:53Our first guest tonight
08:54is an Emmy award-winning
08:55and Tony-nominated actor
08:57you know from
08:57The Big Bang Theory
08:58as well as his work
08:59in The Boys in the Band,
09:01Spoiler Alert,
09:01and The Normal Heart.
09:02You can see him next
09:03in Titanic,
09:04which comes to Broadway
09:05Thursday, March 26th.
09:07Please welcome back to the show
09:07our friend Jim Parsons, everybody!
09:21Oh my goodness!
09:22Hello!
09:23How are you?
09:24I'm wonderful.
09:25This is very exciting.
09:26You know what's really exciting?
09:28What?
09:28I'm spending my birthday with you.
09:29This is your birthday, Eddie?
09:33Jim Parsons!
09:34March 24th, yep.
09:35Wow, happy birthday!
09:37I didn't know where I'd rather be.
09:38That's not true.
09:39Will you be doing anything
09:40after the fact?
09:41Will you be,
09:42or is this the peak of it?
09:43This is the peak.
09:44We're in the thick of rehearsal.
09:45Well, you are in the thick of rehearsal.
09:47It's always a good omen
09:47that it'll be working
09:48in this industry on your birthday.
09:49I've always been.
09:50I think that's good.
09:50You know what I mean?
09:51Well, also, you know,
09:52I think as we get older,
09:53we like the attention less
09:54on our birthday.
09:55So to be working
09:56kind of saves you
09:57from having to deal with that.
09:58Yes, it makes you 10 years younger.
09:59Yes, 100%.
10:00Being back on the stage,
10:02do you feel younger
10:03being back on stage?
10:03You were here a year and a half ago.
10:04So you were doing Our Town
10:06on Broadway.
10:07Now you're doing Titanic.
10:08I would say they're doing
10:09the opposite ends of the spectrum.
10:11They're not similar,
10:14except that they're both on stage.
10:15Yeah.
10:16Our Town is arguably
10:18one of the best American plays
10:19ever written.
10:20And Titanic may be as well,
10:22but in a completely different way.
10:25This show,
10:26I don't know if any of you
10:27were here when it was off Broadway,
10:28but this show is absolutely
10:30the high-low,
10:32ridiculous, and sublime.
10:33It is so amazing.
10:35I mean, you had them on.
10:35We had them on.
10:36It's a retelling
10:37of the Titanic story
10:39from the perspective
10:40of Celine Dion,
10:42who claims,
10:44who says she was on it.
10:45Yes, yes.
10:47It is,
10:48in the best way,
10:49because it's a very smart show,
10:50but it's like very campy.
10:52It does not take himself seriously.
10:54Marlon Mendel,
10:55who co-created it
10:56and plays Celine,
10:57is a...
10:58Astonishing.
10:58...force of nature.
10:59Yes, she is.
11:00And yeah,
11:01when we had them here
11:01when it was off Broadway,
11:03it did seem like
11:04one of those very,
11:05I don't know,
11:06like native to New York shows
11:07could only happen here.
11:08And I don't think
11:09people at the time
11:10would have thought
11:10it was going to be on Broadway,
11:11so it's amazing.
11:12No, I don't think
11:12that any of them did either.
11:14In fact,
11:14I've talked to some of them.
11:15We have a lot of people
11:15who were in it
11:16in the earlier iteration,
11:17and they've said
11:18that they remember
11:19when it was suddenly like
11:20going to the theater downtown
11:22in the off-Broadway,
11:23and they were like,
11:24oh, there's lines
11:24around the block.
11:25What's happening?
11:28But I'm so glad.
11:29We've been doing
11:29these rehearsals,
11:30and I keep noting it
11:32because, like,
11:34there's these moments,
11:35there's so many moments
11:36that happen
11:36that are so funny,
11:37but the only word
11:38you have where it's like,
11:39that is so stupid.
11:40And then,
11:42whiplash,
11:42immediately,
11:43somebody sings a number
11:45and is chilling.
11:46Yeah.
11:47And it's like,
11:47it makes it extra moving
11:48because it's just,
11:49like I said,
11:49it's like this ridiculous
11:51and sublime.
11:52It's just been heaven
11:53to be in there.
11:53I am not one of the people
11:54singing where you're
11:56going to get chills.
11:57No.
11:57Well, now is the time
11:58to tell everybody
11:59that, of course,
12:00you're playing
12:03Rose's mother, Ruth.
12:07Yeah.
12:09It's true.
12:12I got an email.
12:14I knew what Titanic was,
12:16but I had never seen
12:16it off-Broadway.
12:17I got an email that said,
12:18offer for Titanic Broadway,
12:20and I was like,
12:20what the hell
12:21is this going to be?
12:22And I opened it up
12:24and I said,
12:24you've been offered
12:25the role of Ruth,
12:26Rose's mother.
12:27I was like,
12:28tell them yes
12:29before I even read it.
12:30I was like,
12:31I'm doing it.
12:32I'm doing it.
12:33I had been itching
12:34to get back into a,
12:37I don't even know
12:38in this day and age
12:38what we call it,
12:39a female character?
12:40Yeah.
12:40I don't know.
12:41Yeah, that's okay to say?
12:42Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:43I mean,
12:43I wouldn't say it,
12:45but I'm fine with you
12:47putting it out there.
12:48I'd throw me under a bus.
12:49But when I was growing up
12:51in Houston,
12:52I was a very young actor,
12:55like 19, 20, 21,
12:56and I had a friend
12:58in the department,
12:58his name was Sam Hill,
13:00and he,
13:00it was his real name,
13:01and is his real name,
13:02and he offered me
13:04these female roles
13:05in a few different plays
13:06by Charles Bush,
13:07who was very
13:08off-Broadway famous here.
13:11And I wasn't out
13:13at the time,
13:15and only through
13:16playing those roles
13:17did I realize
13:21what I could bring
13:22as an actor
13:23when I wasn't trying
13:24to hide the fact
13:25that I was gay.
13:26Wow.
13:26When I wasn't afraid
13:27of being looked at
13:28as effeminate
13:29or, again,
13:30gay,
13:31or afraid that, like,
13:32I'll never get to play
13:33straight if they know
13:34or whatever like that.
13:35And it was kind of like
13:37seeing the world in color
13:38where I was like,
13:39oh, I can never
13:39really go back now.
13:41Now I've got to figure out
13:41a way to do this
13:42with pants on,
13:44you know,
13:44or whatever.
13:45But it's been
13:4730 years since then,
13:49and I have been
13:50very curious
13:51to know
13:51what that little lady
13:54inside me
13:54is doing now.
13:57And so we're
13:57slowly finding out.
13:58That's lovely.
13:59Yeah.
14:00It's been so fun.
14:01And I like that also
14:03you've grown into
14:04an older,
14:04like sort of a grand dame.
14:06Yes, I'm somebody's
14:06mother now.
14:07That's exactly right.
14:08A real bitch, too.
14:10With a heart of gold.
14:12We're similar in age.
14:14I wonder if the younger
14:15people involved in the show
14:16appreciate exactly
14:17what a phenomenon
14:18the film Titanic was.
14:19I know people still watch it.
14:20I know,
14:21but I don't think they do
14:22because I'm sure
14:23you feel the same way.
14:24Like when you,
14:25when I think of the movie
14:26Titanic,
14:26like it's not just
14:27I remember watching it.
14:29It's that it was
14:29like a backdrop
14:30for an entire
14:32little part of life.
14:33Yeah.
14:33Like if it wasn't
14:35the movie,
14:35it was Celine Dion
14:36on the radio.
14:37It was just constant.
14:38And I don't know.
14:41I do think that you
14:43there's some
14:43the show's funny enough
14:45and smart enough.
14:45You don't need to know
14:46the source material.
14:48But yeah,
14:49it reminds me
14:50it's completely different.
14:51It reminds me
14:51when I did Normal Heart
14:52on Broadway in 2011
14:53and the beginning
14:54of the AIDS epidemic
14:55is what that's about.
14:56And all the young people
14:57coming to that
14:58that had not
14:59just hadn't been
15:00exposed to it as much.
15:01Like, you know,
15:03I mean,
15:04those are very different
15:05shows, too.
15:05Yeah.
15:06This is not an
15:07apples-to-apples comparison
15:08I'm making.
15:10I will say
15:12my kids in school,
15:13I feel like
15:14they read about
15:15I feel like there's
15:15way more disaster books
15:16for, like, young readers.
15:18That's interesting.
15:19And it's amazing
15:19how, like,
15:20the amount of questions
15:21they had about Titanic
15:22before they knew
15:23about the movie
15:23or anything.
15:24Is that right?
15:25Yeah, we weren't talking
15:25about the Titanic
15:26around the house
15:27or anything.
15:27Right.
15:28But they had a lot
15:29of questions
15:29about the Titanic.
15:31I remember being obsessed
15:31with the Hindenburg
15:32when I was young, too.
15:34I think so, too,
15:35because I remember
15:37being bummed about
15:38the Hindenburg
15:38as a kid
15:39because I'm like,
15:39well, they're never
15:40going to do blimps again.
15:41And blimps looked fun.
15:42It looked like
15:43a really fun way
15:43to travel
15:44until it did that.
15:45And it's amazing.
15:46It was just the one blimp
15:47and they're like,
15:47we're not going to do blimps.
15:48We're not doing it again.
15:49But ships stayed.
15:50Yeah, ships.
15:51They were like,
15:51we're going to keep
15:52doing ships.
15:52And they were like,
15:53and the Hindenburg people
15:54were like,
15:55hello,
15:55and they're like,
15:56we're not going to do it.
15:57A lot less
15:58has to go wrong
15:59for a Hindenburg.
16:00That's true.
16:01Yeah.
16:02Last time we talked
16:03about returning
16:04to Broadway,
16:05it's a grueling schedule
16:06that your husband
16:08had a bit of a never again.
16:10I think out of empathy
16:11for you.
16:12No, that's not why.
16:13Great.
16:14This is because
16:15he's stuck with the dogs
16:16and he really gets
16:18the end of the schedule
16:20when you're on Broadway
16:21because I'm there late.
16:22So he gets the last walk
16:23of the day with the dogs.
16:25And then I,
16:26I sleep later than him
16:28because I've been on stage.
16:30And so he gets the first
16:30walk of the day with the dog.
16:32I just think enough
16:33is enough in his opinion.
16:34Yeah.
16:35But I guess once rehearsals
16:37are over,
16:37it gets a little better.
16:38I have daytimes.
16:38I can run errands
16:39and things like that.
16:40It's a 16 week run.
16:4116 week run.
16:42Now, does he,
16:42is he someone who's like
16:43sort of circling,
16:44putting an X on each day,
16:45waiting till the end?
16:46And does he fear?
16:47I get that impression.
16:48Last night we were at dinner
16:49and something came up.
16:50I was like,
16:50what if it's really successful?
16:51What if they wanted to extend
16:52and they asked me to do it?
16:53I would really consider him.
16:54He's like, we'll talk in July.
16:56I was like, oh, okay.
17:00Well, I can't wait to see it.
17:02Congrats.
17:02In advance.
17:03I thank you.
17:04Break a leg on opening night.
17:05You guys, that's Jim Parsons.
17:06Hi, Kenny.
17:07Welcome to John Godwin.
17:09For 16 weeks run.
17:10I'll see you again.
17:31Welcome back over to our next guest,
17:32a very talented musician,
17:34songwriter, actress.
17:35You know from her work in films
17:36such as Licorice Pizza,
17:38The Mastermind,
17:39One Battle After Another,
17:40as well as her work
17:41as one third
17:42of the Grammy-nominated band,
17:43Haim.
17:44You can see her next
17:45in the drama,
17:46which is in theaters nationwide
17:47on Friday, April 3rd.
17:49Let's take a look.
17:50So what was it?
17:50It was just like feelings.
17:54Feelings?
17:55Yeah.
17:55What do you mean?
17:56Like intense butterflies.
17:57No, I get that,
17:59but it wasn't your first time.
18:01I don't know.
18:02So you're saying
18:03Charlie is your first love?
18:06Yeah.
18:06Your first love
18:07or your first crush?
18:11Both, I think.
18:13What, is that insane?
18:14At 30?
18:15Well, I mean, like,
18:16I was 28 when we met, so.
18:18Still.
18:20I don't know.
18:20I used to be ugly.
18:22Oh, come on.
18:24Please welcome back
18:25to the show
18:25our friend,
18:26Ilana Haim, everybody.
18:42Yeah!
18:45Ilana, welcome back.
18:47This is so fun.
18:49And congratulations
18:51on Oscar gold.
18:52One battle after another.
18:54There you are.
18:56I mean, what a thing
18:57to be on stage.
18:58I mean, this movie
18:59was fantastic.
19:00And obviously, you know,
19:02you go into the night
19:03thinking, hoping there's
19:04a chance, but it must have
19:04been just spectacular
19:05to be on stage.
19:06It was crazy.
19:07I cried so much.
19:08I mean, I was just happy
19:09that Paul asked me
19:10for round two.
19:11I was, like, very,
19:12very, very happy.
19:13Yeah.
19:13But this movie
19:14was so special.
19:15And, like, all...
19:15I mean, seeing all of us
19:16together.
19:17Look at Paul.
19:18I know.
19:18Look at Paul.
19:19I think we're also
19:20happy for Paul.
19:21We've enjoyed his movies
19:21for so long.
19:23And now he has his Oscar
19:24that he deserved.
19:25And you, I voted for you
19:27for best wig.
19:28Thank you for doing that.
19:29Here is your wig.
19:31And you, obviously,
19:33this is a character
19:34who's very excited
19:35about her wig.
19:35So excited.
19:37Yeah.
19:37So excited.
19:38The Bob that changed
19:39my life.
19:39And this is a photo
19:40that people have shown
19:42you a bunch.
19:42Oh, yeah.
19:43I was just on tour
19:44with my siblings.
19:46And when...
19:50But any time
19:51that I sang
19:52or said anything,
19:54it was like everyone
19:55showed the Bob photo.
19:57It was like a...
19:58Oh, on their phone.
19:59On their phone.
20:00That's what they do now.
20:01Nobody has to print out
20:02photos anymore.
20:02No, no.
20:03I mean, this would
20:04have been nice.
20:05It would have been nice
20:05if everyone just...
20:06When I do this,
20:07you're like,
20:07oh, a 50-year-old's here.
20:11No, but it was...
20:12I mean, that Bob
20:13really did change my life.
20:15Did you get to keep the Bob?
20:15I didn't get to keep the Bob.
20:17Did you...
20:17They probably would not
20:18have let you keep the Bob.
20:19I mean, I hope it's like
20:21in a museum one day.
20:22Yeah.
20:22That's what I hope.
20:23And I'm not saying
20:24they're cruel,
20:25but I'm sure if you were like
20:25on the last day
20:26can I have the Bob,
20:27they're like,
20:27in case we need to do reshoots,
20:29we need to keep the Bob.
20:30So it wasn't like they were...
20:31But still, it would be nice
20:32if they let you keep the Bob.
20:33I hope it's either in a museum
20:34or whoever has it
20:36just wears it all the time.
20:37Just constantly wears...
20:38Wears it to the supermarket.
20:39Oh, my God.
20:40And looks like this.
20:41When they realize
20:42they don't have the yogurt
20:45she wanted.
20:46All right, so this is a hard movie
20:49to talk about, the drama.
20:50Because I went into it
20:51not knowing anything.
20:52And it is so spectacular
20:54to see a movie like this
20:55that has, I guess,
20:58not a twist in the classic sense,
21:00but you really don't know
21:01what this movie is about
21:02for quite a bit.
21:03I mean, so many people.
21:04I've never...
21:05I've done a lot of things
21:06in my life,
21:07and I've never gotten
21:08so many text messages,
21:10emails, carrier pigeon,
21:13like, people trying to figure
21:15out what the twist is.
21:16And I think it's just
21:18just going not knowing anything.
21:19Yeah.
21:19It's a wild ride, though.
21:21It's a wild ride.
21:21It's a wild ride,
21:22and it's a lot of,
21:24I don't know,
21:25like dinner table tension.
21:26Yes.
21:27Like, there were moments
21:27where I was watching it
21:28being like,
21:28oh, my God,
21:29no one's in peril,
21:31but just watching human beings
21:32have a tense
21:33dinner table conversation.
21:34I know.
21:35Fun to shoot,
21:36I would imagine, though.
21:37Everybody in it
21:38is a fun person.
21:39Oh, yeah.
21:39No, we were...
21:40Well, the thing is,
21:40is, like,
21:41when we were shooting,
21:41obviously, you will...
21:42When you see the movie,
21:43you will understand
21:44when we were shooting
21:44this dinner table scene,
21:46and we had to shoot
21:47with not real wine.
21:48We're getting very drunk
21:49at this dinner table.
21:51And we each had
21:53this fake wine
21:54that was, like,
21:55grapefruit juice
21:56with, like,
21:56some form of...
21:57I think it was just
21:58really watered-down
21:59grapefruit juice.
22:00And after...
22:01I think we shot it over,
22:03like...
22:04It felt like 20 hours.
22:05After, like,
22:0620 hours of drinking
22:07grapefruit juice,
22:07I was like,
22:09Zendaya,
22:10I love you.
22:12I love you so much.
22:14You got juice drunk?
22:15I got juice drunk.
22:16Wow.
22:17I was like,
22:18you're so pretty.
22:20You're just so pretty.
22:22And I was fully
22:22just on grapefruit juice.
22:23And then you and your
22:25co-star, you went...
22:26She's so pretty.
22:28And so you guys went
22:29and you crashed a wedding?
22:31We did.
22:32We crashed a wedding.
22:32Okay, so explain
22:33why you crashed a wedding.
22:34Well, there was, like,
22:35this big Zoom of, like,
22:36okay, you know,
22:37obviously the drama
22:37revolves around a wedding,
22:38and it's like,
22:39how do we, you know,
22:40kick it off?
22:41And there was this
22:42big discussion of
22:43renting out a Vegas...
22:45Like, one of the
22:46chapels, yeah.
22:47And on the Zoom,
22:48I don't know why
22:49everyone was so terrified
22:50to ask you,
22:51but they were like,
22:52Alana, um...
22:54would it be okay
22:54if you were
22:55the wedding DJ?
22:56Yeah.
22:57And I was like,
22:59I thought you'd never ask.
23:02Because I've been training
23:02for this day
23:03my whole life.
23:03Yeah.
23:04And so, of course,
23:05I went, like,
23:06full method of, like,
23:07okay, what...
23:08I'm a wedding DJ.
23:09What do I do?
23:10What do I do?
23:11What do I do?
23:11What do you wear?
23:12What do you wear?
23:13I need a bedazzled vest,
23:14obviously.
23:14Yeah.
23:15And did you self-bedazzle
23:17your look?
23:17I self-bedazzled this look.
23:19Yeah.
23:25But the thing
23:25that's crazy is, like,
23:27not only did I have
23:27to have a bedazzled vest,
23:29but I obviously needed
23:30a sparkle fedora
23:31and a sparkle tie.
23:32And let it be known,
23:33so I tried on the fedora.
23:35I just put it on,
23:36and I was like,
23:37something's not right.
23:39And I just tilted it
23:42just a bit,
23:44just over one eye.
23:46And I don't know
23:47if any of you guys
23:48have a fedora at home,
23:49but try it.
23:50It changes your life.
23:51It's just a little...
23:53It brought something
23:55out of me.
23:55I feel like,
23:56by the way,
23:56if DJ doesn't work out,
23:57you should be
23:58a fedora salesman,
23:59because I feel like...
24:01I was like,
24:01I know you don't love it,
24:02now tilt it.
24:03But just tilt it.
24:04Just go with me.
24:06Tilt it just a bit.
24:07See how you feel.
24:08Take it for a spin.
24:09You came alive
24:10when you actually got to DJ.
24:11I mean, that's fantastic.
24:12I did.
24:13I was playing Pitbull,
24:14Give Me Everything.
24:15Yeah.
24:16The bride and groom
24:17walked down to Pitbull.
24:18Oh, so you've been
24:19waiting your whole life
24:20for this moment,
24:20and then you just played
24:21the same song for everybody?
24:22Yeah.
24:22Well, it was a very fast ceremony.
24:24It's Vegas.
24:25Yeah, yeah,
24:26you gotta move fast.
24:26Right, there's somebody else
24:27waiting to come in.
24:28When they kissed,
24:28you have to play Prince Kiss.
24:30Yeah.
24:34That's a good one
24:34for a quick weather.
24:35Yeah.
24:36Yeah, because it gets to the...
24:37Kiss.
24:37Like, where does it get
24:38to the, uh, the fastest?
24:41You play your character,
24:43Rachel, in this film,
24:43very unlike you.
24:45You're a very kind person,
24:46very warm person.
24:48This is not who Rachel is,
24:49which I feel like must be nice,
24:50because then it means
24:51the director is like,
24:52I know you can be someone
24:53very far afield
24:54from who you actually are.
24:55It was very nice.
24:56I mean, I think I've had
24:5734 years of being
24:59a baby sibling.
25:00Yeah.
25:00Everything was,
25:01it was like a Coke,
25:02like a Coke bottle
25:03that was like pressurized.
25:04Yeah.
25:04And then...
25:05They put the Mentos in.
25:06They put the Mentos in,
25:07and I just went...
25:09Did you enjoy it?
25:10Did you enjoy getting...
25:11Oh, I loved it.
25:12It was cathartic.
25:12I mean, the thing that was also
25:13just messing with my brain,
25:15though,
25:15was that I had to scream
25:16at Zendaya.
25:17So it's like,
25:18I'm screaming at the most
25:19beautiful, nicest person
25:20on the planet,
25:21and there's like childhood trauma
25:22that's coming out.
25:24And I had to keep on apologizing.
25:26I'm so sorry.
25:27I'm so sorry.
25:28And she's like,
25:28you're fine.
25:29This is what's wrong.
25:29You're like, it's the juice.
25:30It's the juice talking.
25:31It's not me.
25:33I don't want to do this.
25:34I don't want to.
25:35No, but it was great
25:37playing a bitch.
25:39Yeah, there was
25:40some real villainy in you.
25:41Yes.
25:42You mentioned that you made,
25:43you bedazzled your vest.
25:44I did.
25:44You are a crafter.
25:45I love merch.
25:47You love merch.
25:48And you actually,
25:49you went on on your own
25:50and you made some,
25:51the drama merch.
25:52I did.
25:53I made, so I was,
25:54I have picked up this new hobby
25:56of making merch
25:57because I got sick of,
25:59I have all these ideas for shirts.
26:01I love vintage t-shirts.
26:02Every time I'm on tour
26:03with my siblings,
26:04first thing I do is like
26:05try to find the funniest
26:07slogan shirt that I can find.
26:08It's a memory.
26:09Yeah.
26:10And so I think about slogans
26:11all the time
26:12and I can't put it on a shirt.
26:14This is all I want to do
26:15is put it on a shirt.
26:16And so I had this vision
26:18of a shirt
26:19and I was like,
26:19you know what?
26:20It was a Sunday.
26:21I can't get it made.
26:22I'm just going to do it myself.
26:24I got all the accoutrement.
26:25I got everything together.
26:27I screen printed my first shirt.
26:28My first shirt I made
26:29was a saying,
26:31I don't know if anyone knows
26:32the movie Xenon,
26:34a Disney Channel movie.
26:36I made a Zetus Lapidus shirt.
26:38Couldn't, could not go one hour
26:40without making the shirt.
26:41Needed to make it
26:42right then and there.
26:43It was my first shirt
26:44and then now I just
26:46make shirts all the time.
26:47So when I was coming here,
26:49I was like,
26:50I got to make some merch.
26:51Wow.
26:52I got to make you some merch.
26:54You're the first guest
26:54who brought merch.
26:55And it's handmade merch.
26:57Wow.
26:57From my hands.
26:58This is a silk screener.
27:00I silk screen now.
27:02I screen print.
27:04I screen print.
27:05This is my beautiful table
27:07that I screen print on.
27:08It's very professional.
27:09But I may,
27:10I don't know.
27:10Oh, it's right here.
27:11Yeah, it's right here.
27:12It's beautiful.
27:12I made you a customized
27:15the drama tote.
27:16It's amazing.
27:17Save the date.
27:18Save the date.
27:19Wedding theme.
27:20April 3rd.
27:21But I couldn't just make one.
27:24No, it's great.
27:24You can't just make one.
27:25I can't just make one for you.
27:26That's wasting the silk screener.
27:27I had to make one
27:28for all of you.
27:29So each of you.
27:30Everyone here.
27:31And Dave.
27:32And Dave.
27:33For Ilana Hunt,
27:34everyone,
27:35the drama will be
27:36featured on Friday,
27:38April 3rd.
27:38You know,
27:39you're going to be a coach.
27:40Look around.
27:41It's good time.
28:02Our next guest is a fantastic comedian
28:04with a great news special,
28:06Chris Fleming,
28:06Live at the Palace.
28:08It's streaming now on HBO Max.
28:09Let's take a look.
28:11Oh, you like when I improvise.
28:14Chicago's a comedy town.
28:16You love that.
28:17This is where Seth Meyers
28:19cut his teeth.
28:23I had to come to where
28:25Seth Meyers learned
28:27the rule of three.
28:35Yeah, I bet you've never seen
28:36Seth Meyers do this kind of mic play.
28:40Please welcome to the show
28:41of Transplaining!
28:58Please, take it all.
28:59It's all yours.
29:00It's all yours.
29:01Oh, my God.
29:01This is the first time
29:02I've ever been mentioned
29:03in the clip.
29:05Twice.
29:06Twice in the clip.
29:07Yeah.
29:07But before we get to your special,
29:08which I loved,
29:09congratulations on the sweater.
29:10Oh.
29:12Oh, this whole thing?
29:13I mean, this, uh...
29:15I think I'm doing something sexy
29:17and then I just always end up
29:18looking like a Pixar antagonist.
29:21And people are just like,
29:22why is bro dressed like the mosquito
29:24from Madagascar 10?
29:27I'm very happy to have you here
29:28first time.
29:29And a lot of other guests I love.
29:31Did you get to meet
29:32Jim and Alana backstage?
29:34Do you think they let me
29:35near the talent?
29:36Oh, no.
29:37Did we put you
29:38in the special dressing room?
29:39I barely got in here.
29:41But I do...
29:42I'm worried that people
29:42are going to tune in
29:43and think,
29:43is that Haim now?
29:46Me, Jim, and Noah.
29:48Oh, no.
29:49What happened to Haim?
29:50And we're just doing...
29:55Bazinga!
29:58We'll cut the bazinga.
29:59Oh, no.
30:00We, uh...
30:01So we've never met,
30:02but I've reached out
30:03because I'm a huge fan
30:04of your work.
30:05A lot of late-night calls.
30:07A lot of late-night calls,
30:08which goes straight to voicemail,
30:09but you do call me
30:10in the morning.
30:11I wrote you, though,
30:12because you mentioned
30:14me in the special,
30:14but really,
30:15you didn't burn me.
30:16No.
30:16Like, whereas there's
30:17some people, like,
30:18took a little bit...
30:19They took the zingers.
30:20You got, like, a light...
30:21You know, on the microwave,
30:23like, a reheating broccoli?
30:24Yeah, totally.
30:25You got a light toast.
30:26Birbiglia got nuked.
30:28Yeah.
30:29And I'm on his turf right now.
30:31I'm not going near Park Slope
30:33because I think
30:33he put a hit out on me.
30:34Birbiglia.
30:35Birbiglia took a hit out
30:36on you.
30:37That hit man's just going
30:37to be Ezra Klein
30:38on a city bike?
30:41This one's for Mike.
30:44I had to...
30:45I reached out.
30:47Lin-Manuel, also,
30:48light nuke.
30:49Like, you know,
30:49Brocklead.
30:50Yeah.
30:50You know,
30:51great story about Lin.
30:52Oh, I think I got nuked
30:53in that one.
30:53Yeah, you...
30:54So, again,
30:54like, I was saying to Lin,
30:56we're in rare air.
30:57Yes.
30:58Terry Gross,
30:59she did fine.
31:00You're a big fan of her.
31:01Well, yeah,
31:03she doesn't negotiate
31:04with terrorists.
31:05You...
31:06You...
31:06Like, I'm kind of doing
31:08a John Hinckley Jr.
31:09thing with Terry.
31:09Like, I'm just trying
31:10to get her attention.
31:11Yeah.
31:11And I think she's just
31:12in her silo.
31:13I have an image of Terry
31:15after every notable person.
31:16She has a menagerie
31:18of just famous people
31:18and then just tips it over.
31:23Do you...
31:24We're from the same area,
31:25by the way.
31:25Yeah, we are from
31:26the same area.
31:27You're Massachusetts.
31:27I'm New Hampshire.
31:28Yeah, I bet.
31:29I feel like we had
31:30very different experiences.
31:32You don't think we had
31:32a similar New England upbringing?
31:33You are a prince.
31:34I was a witch.
31:37I could see...
31:38I bet you broke
31:39a lot of hearts
31:40on the National Honor Society.
31:42I could...
31:43I could just see
31:44every horse girl
31:45in the tri-state area
31:48honking on their Barry Sachs
31:49pretending it's
31:50young Seth Meyers.
31:51Oh, oh, oh!
31:53Oh, oh, oh!
31:54Oh, oh, oh!
31:56It's because you...
31:57You got those
31:58Paul Newman eyes,
31:59but you got the
31:59Ethan Frome neck.
32:01You got...
32:02He's got that
32:03Adam's apple
32:03that drives salutatory.
32:05Every New England girl
32:06he wants to sled
32:07to their death
32:08with Seth Meyers.
32:09Oh!
32:11Oh!
32:12Young Goodman Meyers!
32:14Please come to my...
32:16This is maybe 89.
32:17Young Goodman Meyers!
32:19Come to me, stable,
32:20and let's do
32:20some light hand stuff.
32:24Sorry, girls.
32:26AP U.S. history
32:27is really busting my butt.
32:31Or should I say
32:32AP U.S. herstory?
32:34Oh, yeah.
32:35Oh, Young Goodman Meyers!
32:37He's an ally!
32:38He's kind and...
32:39A generous lover!
32:42Seth Meyers in the streets,
32:44Nancy Meyers in the sheets!
32:48Oh, my God, this is...
32:50Oh, my God, this is...
32:52You know...
32:52Abigail!
32:54Abigail!
32:56You best be brushing that hair
32:58if you want young
32:59Goodman Meyers
33:00taking you to Spring Fling!
33:03Meanwhile, in my hometown,
33:04they were just trying to figure out
33:05the most humane way
33:06to put me down.
33:09Because I was...
33:10I was just on all fours.
33:13No, you can't put me
33:15in the monitors.
33:15I'm going to fight myself
33:16like a parakeet.
33:20Oh, my God, no one's ever...
33:22Yeah.
33:25Oh, my God.
33:35Time!
33:35Bozinga!
33:37My fr...
33:38No one's ever mentioned
33:39my frown neck.
33:40I'm so happy.
33:41Yeah.
33:42I finally got a shout-out.
33:43You did...
33:43You shot your special in Chicago.
33:45Yeah.
33:45So, I also shot a special in Chicago.
33:47But I want to ask,
33:48before I get to...
33:49I want to call something out,
33:50but why do you think
33:50we haven't filmed our specials
33:52in New England
33:52because we're both from New England?
33:53What do you think it is?
33:54Oh, my God.
33:55It's so loaded.
33:56Yeah, right?
33:57Oh, my God.
33:57By the way,
33:58I always do great shows there,
33:59but I'm just like,
33:59I don't trust it
34:01when the cameras are rolling.
34:03It's a very conditional love.
34:05Yeah.
34:05The cold winters.
34:06I mean, my family...
34:07My family's there now.
34:08Yeah.
34:08Are they excited about your success,
34:11about everything that's happening?
34:12Yeah.
34:12Well, it's a very...
34:13They all have kids now.
34:15Yeah.
34:15And so I'm kind of
34:16a teachable moment for them.
34:17Yeah.
34:18It's a very, like,
34:20respect the freak kind of a thing.
34:23And children,
34:24they talk to me the same way
34:25when I go viral
34:26outside of my fan base.
34:27It's like the comments.
34:28That's how children talk to me.
34:29And I was swimming
34:30the summer in my cousin's pool,
34:32and I had...
34:33We were out of earshot
34:34with all the adults,
34:35and I had my little
34:36five-year-old cousin
34:37on my back
34:38swimming, swimming, swimming,
34:39swimming, swimming, swimming.
34:40He pulls my hair up,
34:42and he whispers in my ear,
34:44you even have
34:45the neck of a woman.
34:54I don't know
34:54if you have a broken character
34:56with a kid,
34:56and I just said,
34:57Jesus Christ!
34:59What, are we in jail?
35:01All right.
35:01Sorry, I hate to do
35:03a gotcha moment
35:04with a guest,
35:05especially one I respect.
35:06I deserve...
35:07Karma needs to come for me.
35:08I need consequences.
35:09Now, by the way,
35:10we heard in the clip,
35:11you said,
35:12I bet you've never seen
35:13Seth Meyers do mic work
35:14like this.
35:14Yeah.
35:15This is your HBO special.
35:16Yeah.
35:17This is my HBO special.
35:19Oh!
35:21Oh!
35:22That's a mic.
35:23That's a mic.
35:24I didn't fall down.
35:26I underestimated you.
35:28I need fact checkers.
35:30Wait.
35:31Look.
35:33You're even getting
35:34lower than me.
35:35Yeah.
35:36I mean, I...
35:37Yeah.
35:38We could do a flip book.
35:38This could be
35:39a really messed up inchworm.
35:43But I'm very...
35:44You know,
35:44because I don't...
35:44I mean,
35:44it's a fair burn
35:45to call me out
35:46of my mic work,
35:46but, like,
35:47the one time I went for it,
35:48you burned me for it
35:50in the exact same position.
35:52Like, you literally...
35:53Like, Seth Meyers would never,
35:54and I did...
35:55I literally did it.
35:57I...
35:58I didn't know
35:58Lauren let you down
35:59with the piggies like that.
36:01Oh, Lauren did not know.
36:02Okay.
36:03Lauren, I got a call.
36:04Yeah.
36:04Yeah.
36:05Lauren gave me a...
36:05It was a very long speech
36:06about exactly that.
36:07Like, we don't lie.
36:09We don't...
36:09You don't lie on the floor.
36:11Yeah, yeah.
36:11Once you lie on the floor,
36:12the flag has touched the ground.
36:14Like, a lot of that.
36:15And we're wearing Hitachis
36:16right now
36:16that Lauren is controlling
36:17in case we act up,
36:19in case we swear.
36:20Oh!
36:23You grew up...
36:24What was your upbringing like?
36:25I mean, I feel like there's a...
36:26You know, a Massachusetts upbringing
36:27has a bit of a stereotype to it.
36:29Did you have a...
36:30Did you have a good one?
36:33Yeah.
36:34Yeah, it was...
36:35I mean, elementary school...
36:37Okay, what just popped in my head
36:39is a pretty chilling tale.
36:41Oh, I love a chilling tale.
36:42Did you go to public school?
36:43Uh-huh.
36:43Massachusetts public school, okay.
36:45I was in elementary school
36:47and my teacher fancied herself
36:49kind of an environmentalist.
36:50Okay, that makes sense.
36:51We're in the middle of class one day
36:52and I guess she sees
36:54an egg fall out of a tree
36:55in the courtyard.
36:57She goes,
36:57hold up!
36:58And she sprints out,
37:00grabs the egg,
37:01sprints back in.
37:02How old are we at this point,
37:03do you think?
37:04Oh, whatever.
37:05Fourth grade is?
37:06Okay, gotcha, gotcha.
37:07So you're like 10.
37:07So 19, yeah, and...
37:11That's cheap.
37:12That's cheap.
37:13I don't feel good about that.
37:14We'll accept it.
37:15We'll accept it.
37:15Yeah.
37:16We've got to do everything we can.
37:18So, okay, so she runs back in
37:20with this egg
37:21and she goes,
37:22I'm going to save this bird.
37:24Watch me.
37:26And she takes out a straw.
37:34Watch me!
37:37Watch me!
37:39Watch me!
37:41My friend Margo stands up
37:42and casually vomits.
37:45Yeah.
37:46The honest vomit of a child.
37:48Aw.
37:49Jason Hayward,
37:51bleep that,
37:52stands up,
37:53seeing Margo vomit,
37:54walks to the other trash can.
37:56Blah!
37:57Watch me!
37:59Egg is dripping.
38:08Egg is now empty.
38:10She goes,
38:11we lost.
38:15What did you think was going to happen?
38:18I don't understand what the end game was.
38:21It haunts me to this day.
38:22I mean, if the end...
38:23It's like an Edgar Allan Poe story.
38:24Yeah.
38:25I mean,
38:25do you think she accidentally
38:26maybe slurped up the entirety of the bird?
38:28She either completely inhaled the bird
38:31or it was on her...
38:32Yeah.
38:33...on her shirt.
38:34What a wonderful Massachusetts memory.
38:36And that's...
38:36Massachusetts!
38:37That's Massachusetts!
38:38Massachusetts!
38:41What a joy to have you here.
38:42Will you come back soon?
38:43I would love to come back soon.
38:44It is a delight.
