00:00I'm so excited to talk to you because, you know, here at Billboard, I've had to announce your song being
00:05number one over and over and over and over again.
00:10How does it feel four times at number one on the Hot 100?
00:13Feels surreal. I think this has been the biggest moment for me where I've seen how fans can change your
00:20career.
00:20You know, for so long, you're like, all right, one song at a time, one record at a time, you
00:24know, but with this one song,
00:26and they've done it continuously for me, but really with Choosing Texas, man, have they taken a hold of it.
00:31And it's so cool. It's like cool to see the ownership they've taken it and how the different versions they
00:35do.
00:36And, you know, it's just wild.
00:37And what do you think it is about this song specifically that is connected with your fans and the broader
00:42audience in general?
00:43I don't know. I don't. I don't know. I really don't.
00:47We all talk, all of us that wrote it, we talk about that. We love this song.
00:50I don't know if it's because it's a very honest point of view, you know,
00:55but I hear a lot of honest songs all the time, so I don't know.
00:58I think I try to add some groove into this record.
01:01I try to add big singing choruses and big melodic guitar licks that you can remember.
01:06And I don't know if it feels nostalgic or just sounds like something they hadn't heard before. I don't know.
01:11Well, also, I wanted to ask you, who was the first, like, legend that texted you when you got the
01:15news?
01:15Like, who reached out to you and gave you a congratulations that you're like, oh, wow?
01:19My friend, well, Miranda Lambert's on the whole record, so she was executive producer, so she reached out.
01:26Laney Wilson, who's here tonight, and a lot of people have. It's been really cool to see the support.
01:30What a great girl group to have, by the way.
01:32I mean, don't mess with us, you know. I love that.
01:35And there's so many amazing new country artists here tonight.
01:37Oh, yeah.
01:38Who do you got your eyes on? Who do you want to work with?
01:40I mean, there's so many people, and not just country.
01:42My favorite thing is to get in the room with people and just see how their brain works, see how
01:46they write a song, you know.
01:48I'm doing some rights out here in L.A. for the first time this week, and it's cool.
01:52I've always wanted to do that, so we're having some fun with some different people this week.
01:55You've got to go find Taylor Swift and get there and there.
01:57Just to walk past her. Maybe she'll, like, get some, you know, the Toss Toss Fairy Dust on me.
02:02Oh, my God. Wow. Just a little bit of it.
02:03Toss Toss Fairy Dust.
