00:00Can you feel it? Oh, yeah right now. Yeah. Oh, no, I'm doing those shots. I'm shit-faced from one
00:05tequila shot
00:06Where's the hidden tattoo?
00:10This would be a billboard thing. This is this is the big break
00:13This is this is the moment we've been with they're grinning you're grinning. They're grinning
00:16So just so you guys know there's cameras all around people laughing right now. Just so you know watching this
00:24Hey, how are you? Good to see you. Okay, I will. Welcome to my lair. Hey, I like your lair.
00:32This is good
00:40Why did I pick great white? Well, I'll tell you why because every time we come to Los Angeles
00:43I eat here every single time because I'm obsessed with it
00:46I usually stay pretty nearby because I want to be able to walk here in the mornings
00:50That's really important to me, but I had it on a this is gonna sound like it like kind of
00:52bratty
00:53But I had it on a jet one time a little pj. I did okay
00:58Private jet action with great white. Hey, it's neither here nor there, but there's a little private jet
01:02Yeah, so I was on the jet. My manager was like you got to try this place. So I got
01:05the breakfast burrito
01:06So I had a cold soggy burrito and it was still the best burrito I've ever had in my life
01:11So I'm like what would this thing taste like if I actually showed up in person in the flesh and
01:15ordered it here?
01:16That's the whole reason I come here
01:19What's up, man? I'm Melinda. I'm Nicky. Nice to meet you. Nicky, I'm Nate. Nice to meet you.
01:23Thanks for having me in. What can I get you guys a drink?
01:25Well, we're gonna be playing a little game called five questions or five shots
01:29What? So we're gonna need to start five shots of Patron
01:34Five shots? Five shots. Five. Buckle in buddy. Come on
01:40You guys. I didn't sign up for this
01:43Anything else right now?
01:44I would like some iced tea with a straw please
01:46Iced tea?
01:48Gosh, an ivy. Can you do an ivy here at the same time?
01:50Apparently I'm gonna need it. I'll make a call and see what I can do
01:54So funny story about the water bottles. So I came here one time and so I only come here for
01:58breakfast
01:58That's mainly but one of these days I came in in the afternoon. I didn't order any food
02:03But I was like, oh, they have alcohol here. That's cool
02:04So I started drinking and and I was having a great time and at some point I drink off the
02:10bottle there
02:11And they came over me they go, sir, sir, did you just drink off of the water bottles? Like, yes
02:16They're like, yeah, that's not cool, man. That's not cool
02:19I was like, I am really really sorry for drinking off the bottle
02:21I had no idea that was a carnal sin here
02:23I had no idea almost got kicked out
02:25Did you have to buy the bottle? No, but but they were not happy with me. They can't reuse that
02:30And so I kind of I walked away like should I ever come back?
02:32I don't know and we figured it out, you know, I just kind of was like, I just want to
02:34do that again
02:35It looks like you've been forgiven. It was a minor spanking. It was a minor spanking
02:38You know, and you know, it was a little bit of a raised in a barn moment
02:41It was a little raised in a barn
02:42Like I picked it up and I was like chugging it
02:44Just like what?
02:45What is he doing? Somebody stop him over here. I was like, oh my god. So do you cook?
02:50Uh, I cook macaroni and cheese really well. I take basically handfuls of Tillamook cheese and I just
02:55Literally just douse it in cheese and then everything's good that way, you know
02:58Well, there's nothing that cheese doesn't make better. No, I'm a sharp cheddar guy
03:02Sharp cheddar. Exclusively mostly. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, wow. The nikki. Oh my gosh
03:07This is this is so bad. This is this is the worst idea of my entire life. God you can
03:11smell. No, they're all gonna go
03:15My goodness
03:17That's okay. Would you would you judge me? Would you judge me if I did a cookback?
03:21Uh, no, not at all. Okay. No, okay
03:24Just
03:25I'm just gonna times you gotta do that y'all if you're watching out there
03:28You gotta get yourself a little cookback
03:34You have got a banger out there right now. I got a banger with tyler hubbard called after midnight
03:41Let's talk about how that song came about because I heard you told him no when he pitched it to
03:45you. Okay
03:46So that's not did he tell you this they tell you I told him no
03:49There's a quote from him saying that he pitched it to you and you said no when he had to
03:53come back to you
03:53Okay, it's half true. It's half true. Okay. So I was it wasn't a no. It was like a maybe
03:58later. Maybe later
04:00Okay, that's not good either
04:02It's tyler hubbard
04:03I know I know I just you get songs all day every day
04:06So you're just like, okay
04:07I want to make sure you're just scared that you get it wrong for any reason
04:09I knew it was a smash, but I was like just nervous. You know what I mean?
04:12It was one of those songs
04:12I just kept going back and listening to you a bunch in my files, you know
04:15So I listened to it. I'm like guys one just feels like a hit. It's so good. I love what
04:19it talks about
04:19It feels like fgl is what it feels right
04:22And did you love fgl were you obsessed? Okay. No obsessed. I think like that's the bar for me for
04:27like
04:28Energetic anthem country songs fgl all day long. That's the bar
04:31But yeah, I was like this song feels like that, but it feels newer
04:34And then I was like, okay, what if I like get the courage to ask him to actually sing it
04:38with me?
04:39And so I I texted him he said yeah
04:40Oh, I didn't realize he didn't bring it to you as a duet. He did not
04:43He brought it to you as a songwriter
04:44He just pitched it to me and I was like it's great
04:45It fits me perfectly okay
04:47It feels like whiskey on you and bolt proof and whirl on fire these other songs
04:50But like that's how he pitched it to me. It wasn't to do a duet as I would never say
04:54no
04:54I wouldn't care if it was it was winnie the pooh song
04:56I would cut winnie the pooh with tyler
04:59I'm waiting for that now. Yeah, so the video is really a good time
05:03You're hanging out. There's a bonfire or brought my house fire pit. No. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep
05:10Okay
05:10So what's it like to shoot a video at your house? And was it after midnight when you were shooting?
05:15It was very late
05:16It was like 3 a.m
05:16I think when it was all done, but I just wanted I wanted to have a party at my house
05:19I was like, all right everybody we're gonna film a music video
05:22It's gonna be a party everyone come and hang out
05:24We're gonna do a bonfire we're gonna drink we have a good time and that's exactly what we did
05:27We just we just captured it
05:28And the label's gonna pay for it. Yeah
05:29Yeah, we're gonna we're gonna shoot this the label's gonna pay for it
05:33We're gonna pretend it's a music video
05:35But the monster trucks made it feel like it was a music video a little bit
05:38But but you know like I don't typically have monster trucks laying around. Okay. I got atvs
05:42I ride four-wheelers a lot, but okay, but these were monster trucks. Yeah, yeah, yeah
05:45Yeah, but it was it was a fun time
05:47So my first question to you for either answer or do a shot
05:52So okay, so that's the deal so I'm gonna ask you it's a little bit like truth or dare
05:56So I'm gonna ask you a question you can either answer it or you can do a shot. Okay
06:01Now technically you don't
06:03Whoever's watching this is gonna judge me if I don't do it though
06:05No, because the technically I have to do the shot if you don't answer
06:08So if I take it, I don't have to answer the question
06:10You do have to answer the question
06:12You just want me to drink. Yeah, we'll just want you to drink. Let's just be honest. Yeah, technically at
06:16some point
06:17Like every question you're drinking a shot and that's just the deal. I get to answer a question if I
06:21take a shot
06:22You don't have to answer the question if you take the shot. I get to. Okay. Oh very okay
06:26I like that better. I get to. I get to. What is the craziest thing that you've ever done after
06:31midnight?
06:32Oh my god. Oh my god. Well, let's let's let's just we're gonna unpack some things here
06:36I love this. You're gonna do the shot and answer. Okay
06:42So here's how you do it. Here's how you by the way
06:44Here's how you do a shot properly. Okay, you take a little bit of a sip of the backer
06:47Whatever you choose pickleback coke, whatever. Yeah, then you take your shot
06:50Then you sandwich it within the and it's easy peasy lemon squeezy. You know watch this just like this do
06:56the whole shot
06:59Very okay
07:01But you did the whole thing. Yeah, of course. Yeah, okay, of course I did
07:04Do you want to answer the question now that you've done a shot like the most craziest thing that really
07:09warm feeling?
07:10I know that there was there was sometimes I wanted to be kind of reckless as a kid
07:14And and I may have like lit fireworks and a porta potty and knocked it over
07:17I mean that may have happened at some point
07:19I'm a big jerk for that because there was poopoo caca everywhere. Oh guaranteed
07:23Think about that. Think about that. So a porta potty that people had been using as a porta potty. Yeah
07:29Yeah, and you did you get arrested? No, no, I mean now they're gonna know but yeah
07:34They're gonna they're gonna come after me like 20 years ago or something or okay
07:38But was it fun? Yeah, okay
07:40Yeah, I don't know why I did it though like because you could I think that same night
07:44I was ding-dong ditching. I think still think that's funny. Yeah
07:47I may have mooned an old lady. I may have done that. I may have I mean
07:50It was all this after midnight. We're gonna say it was very very late
07:53Yeah, because what was the old lady doing out after midnight? I don't know watching murder. She wrote
07:57I just if you guys don't know what that is
07:59It's a wonderful wonderful show wonderful wonderful cinema
08:02Where's Angela Lansbury when you need it? Murder she wrote. I don't know where that came from. Where's Jessica Fletcher?
08:07I was home watching unsolved mysteries. You know what I mean? Come on. Robert stock was my hero. Hello. I
08:12love it
08:13He's the reason I believe in aliens, you know, so there you go before we do a lot more shots
08:17We're gonna actually talk about something fairly serious, which is you've been teasing a song
08:23That's the exact opposite of after midnight
08:25Yeah, I'll pray and you've been teasing it a lot on your socials
08:28Yeah, and some of the lyrics are like when I don't know the right words to say I pray or
08:33the one that kind of gets me
08:34You're gonna make me emotional. I got one shot in and I'm gonna start crying
08:37Would you like me to wait so you can cry? No, no, no, no
08:39I've got nothing to hide here. So the person I want to be doesn't match my reflection. That's the line
08:46that kind of gets me
08:47Yeah, we've all been that's heavy. That's heavy. That's heavy. That's heavy. Yeah, so you wrote it with Ashley Gorley
08:52and some other people
08:53I'm the person who I want to be doesn't match my reflection
08:59Tell me about how that song came about
09:01So I did a camp with Ashley Gorley because we we wrote world on fire had a lot of success
09:05with that one
09:06So we went back in to write songs and then I think taylor phillips had the title pray
09:10And uh, we were just just talking there was a lot going on in the world this time
09:13This was in around september in that in that world and uh
09:16Just things were crazy and we were just trying to just go like man. What's the most important thing?
09:19It's not it's not your political stance
09:21I can promise you that the most important thing
09:23I think is is that we come together and we unite as people we need that so bad right now
09:27in the world
09:27To unite, you know, and I think that prayer is something that a lot of us can get behind a
09:31lot of us can
09:32You know, whatever that means for them, you know, and for me in my life
09:35I'm like that's that's the thing I want to focus on more than anything else
09:37It's like hope because when I started this whole thing
09:39I was like I want to bring hope to people yeah, and like that song is every
09:43Part of what that means to me in every single way
09:45But there's lines in there like that when I look at my reflection, you know
09:48I don't see the person I want it. You know what I mean? Yeah, that's just being honest
09:51That's going like man like i'm not perfect, you know, I mean like I sometimes cuss
09:54I sometimes drink, you know and these types of things, but deep down. I love the lord, you know
09:59Um, you did make some political statements. Yeah
10:05In hindsight are you like that's just not the kind of artist I am I I can believe whatever I
10:11want to believe for sure
10:12So let's talk a little bit about that easy
10:14Um, I think at that time when I did that I think for me it was that like
10:18I was like, okay, i'm gonna make a stand for how I feel
10:21But never in my wildest dreams that I ever think that that would hurt somebody, you know what I mean?
10:25Like that's that's the thing that like that's the thing that really like kills me because I didn't want to
10:28ever hurt anybody's feelings or make
10:30Anybody upset or like be divisive because that's not my heart
10:33I'm not I'm not a person who's divisive in any way, you know, and I love people so much
10:37So I think where i'm at now is like just seeing the temperature of everything and how I feel in
10:42myself and the growth that i'm having in myself
10:43I think the most important thing is that we come together. We love each other
10:47I mean, that's that's the whole thing that I
10:48Kind of want to get behind and I think praise the song to do that. I really believe it in
10:51my heart
10:52I really believe that this song is going to be a song that touches so many people
10:55I love the saying there's way more that unites us than divides us and we're so there has to be
11:01divisive right now
11:02And I just try to remember I don't want I don't even want to like entertain that world of of
11:06dividing anybody
11:07It's the most ridiculous thing like we don't want that
11:08I want us to come together and like love our neighbors because you know, it's funny like I had I
11:12had one lady reach out
11:13She was really mad and said some you're not nice. Thanks to me. I apologize
11:19Really really mean like okay, and like but I understand like we're passionate about what we feel and stuff and
11:24I actually dm'd her
11:25I was like tell me why this hurt you
11:28I swear by the end she was like you're the best. I'm like you're the best and we were I
11:31was like you want tickets to a show like like
11:33Completely like became friends at the end and it was the craziest thing
11:37If you saw where it came from you would never believe that in a million years
11:39But I think that's the point is that when you strip away all the beliefs of things you take all
11:43the stuff away
11:44We're human beings that are just passionate about things and but we're not no one's bad here
11:48Like we're just people you know, I mean this is going to be a potential shock question just because if
11:53you don't know it
11:54Just because if you don't know it. Okay. Okay, so whiskey on you
11:58Mm-hmm. How many times do you mention the word whiskey? Oh
12:03I think you may have to do it. I wish we had shots. Oh my gosh
12:06I think you may have to do it. What if I get it wrong and then I have to is
12:09that what you're saying? Yeah
12:09If you get it wrong, you gotta do a shot 23 times
12:13How many times 13 13?
12:16Okay, shoot shoot shoot shoot, okay
12:19I got my fingers on here. I hope I clean my hands by the way
12:22This is like I think there's enough alcohol in there to sanitize a moose. You're you're good
12:29Can I just say one more thing? I love that we can just be real like be ourselves like in
12:33every single way like
12:34I'm happy that we've done each other
12:36There's some other ones where the people are just
12:38Cheers me with your little Long Island tea or whatever that you know what i'll do one shot
12:41Will you please? I've got enough time. Okay. Okay, you're not getting out of this. You trust me. I've done
12:45it. Here we go. Boom. You ready down the hatch. Yep
12:53Now it's a party now it's a party
13:00Let's talk about world on fire. Let's do it. Let's do it 10
13:05Weeks at number one on country
13:07Well, that's what I want to talk to you about so it ties morgan wall and geoproof
13:13For the longest running number one in the chart history
13:17First off, how pissed were you that you couldn't get to 11 weeks and have the record?
13:21I wasn't mad one bit really not even one day and in fact, it's really funny is we had a
13:26my management company had a grammy party
13:29It was the night that me and averil hanging out all night long and having a great time
13:32They gave me a plaque on stage that was like
13:34Congratulations seven weeks number one world on fire billboard number one, whatever. I was like, oh my gosh
13:39And then it went eight weeks and nine weeks
13:41I put the seven week in my house because it's so funny because I'm like it wasn't done. It wasn't
13:45done. It wasn't finished
13:46Do you remember we were texting at that point blew my mind and you'd be like I got another week
13:51and I'm like, I know you did
13:52Like I couldn't tell you in advance and I'd because I get fired by the way
13:55It was 10 weeks consecutive morgan's wasn't consecutive. You were consecutive shouldn't be saying that
14:01How does a 10 week number one change your life? Here's food. You're so excited about your burrito. Oh, he
14:08comes through timing. Thank you so much
14:11Okay, so i'm gonna pop this on here
14:13And here you have the rest of this avocado
14:15You know, I got nothing but green here, so
14:19Oh my god, I don't really know how i'm gonna eat this
14:24As good as you remember
14:27It's it's just amazing
14:35So let's go back to world on fire. Okay, how did that change your life?
14:40I think part of it is
14:42You know the experience first of all is amazing like like having a song that that touches that many people
14:46and it does that well
14:47Every single show they're screaming the song at the top of their lungs. It's so sick
14:50And we do it every it's always the last song of the set
14:53Everyone goes nuts. It's so much fun
14:54But I think from like a practical side of things it bought me a house
14:58I never thought in a million years would be a homeowner
15:00It bought you a house bought me a house and it's like my dream house. It's literally my dream house
15:04I call it paradise ranch. That's why I wear the hat. Oh, so that's for your house
15:07That's my house from when you lived in paradise
15:08Well, part of that
15:09Okay, so paradise ranch
15:10I think of heaven is like as hopefully it's a ranch one day
15:13You know what I mean?
15:13It could be whatever you want
15:14It could be whatever I want
15:15But I call my house like paradise ranch
15:18And it like so it bought me a house
15:19It bought me so I have a little bit of land
15:21I ride my four-wheelers around
15:22I have a gun range. I shoot guns
15:24I
15:24I have a hot tub over there like i'm it's it's bratty as crap
15:27It's so bratty, but it's like everything I could have ever
15:29If I could have picked in a million years like this is the place I'd want to live that's that's
15:33the home from one song
15:36Wow, so so thank you ashley and everybody else so much and everybody that played the song and radio
15:41Let's talk about the long live country rock and roll. Yes
15:45Headlining tour kicks off in march. What are your tour essentials?
15:49What are five things that you have to have
15:51On your bus or that you just have to have on the road with you or you don't feel comfortable
15:57Sandwich brothers egg and egg and cheese pitas
16:00Wow, okay
16:01They're 170 calories. They got protein. I eat those. Okay, so I have to have those for a little snack
16:07-a-roo
16:07I gotta have starbucks every single morning. I do grande iced americano sugar-free vanilla light cream
16:12Two bacon goudas with no bacon. I take the buns off just eat the egg and I do one birthday
16:17cake pop every morning
16:19You're a creature of habit like beyond. Okay, so that's breakfast that's breakfast lunch is the pitas
16:25Unless I do some of the catering. I have to have
16:27Uh tons of icebreaker mints gotta have those obsessed because i'm always talking to people and i'm like
16:33Afraid of having bad breath. I'm so afraid to have it. It's my number one fear in life. Yeah. Yep
16:38They won't remember a word you said they're like your breath
16:40Absolutely reeks. No, I hear you. So you don't want to be that guy or girl. Um, what else poppies
16:45have poppies on the bus
16:46Everything's food related isn't it for my drinks. Yeah. Yeah, I drink tons of them
16:50They're 15 20 calories or whatever it is and they're they're freaking amazing
16:53Favorite flavor
16:54Uh orange cream
16:56And that's all I ask for is just the orange cream ones on there. It's insane
17:00And then what else do I have to have on the bus pepsin ac
17:05I'm 40 years old. I get that let's talk about that
17:08Did you have a little bit of a reckoning with yourself that you were turning 40 or were you like
17:12listen?
17:13I've hit my goals at 40. It's a different thing if you haven't hit your goals at 40
17:16I think i've i've been like man i've done more than I ever thought I would ever do in my
17:20entire life
17:20But like I i'm not the person I want to be yet
17:23I still want to look I keep getting serious
17:25I don't mean to but I still want to love people better
17:26I don't want to be cranky all the time like I have a really high standard for myself
17:29You know, I'm in therapy every week dealing with this stuff
17:31But like I just want to be I just want to be better
17:33You know, I think you just brought up something that is amazing to me
17:37I credit jelly roll with this
17:38I think there is something that has happened in the men in country
17:41In fact, I actually went into a story on this the men in country are incredibly open
17:46With their emotions with what they're saying in song. Yeah, like I was interviewing hardy your buddy
17:51Yeah, and he talked about he has two therapists
17:54So and you just said you're in therapy every week like there is it shouldn't be weird
17:58Something has happened with the men in country that they are came brown
18:03jelly you party that are so open and it's so wonderful
18:08About yeah, I'm in therapy. I'm struggling with this. I'm struggling with that
18:13Did you have to have a reckoning to be able to say you know what i'm gonna say that i'm
18:17in therapy?
18:18Or do you realize how many of your fans it can help for you to say that?
18:22I don't know if I even put too much thought into it
18:23I just like i've just always been an open book
18:25So I my publicist loves that and I I just you know, I just talked about everything
18:30I just i've never really thought about like oh my gosh
18:32It's hard for me to share these things because that's just who I am
18:34But I do like that it does encourage people to to also want to get help or or to discuss
18:38it and stuff
18:39It's a serious thing. I mean guys sometimes naturally want to stuff their emotions obviously and everything so um
18:44Yeah, I think it's good and this is where i'm at. I'm just like an open guy. So I think
18:48that's awesome. Yeah, so here's another question
18:50Oh, no, you were we're still taking shots. Yeah, you're still taking shots. I'm done
18:55You uh
18:57Touring with morgan wallen. Mm-hmm. What's something that you learned about morgan that none of the rest of us
19:02know?
19:03Um, let me think something that nobody knows about morgan. So you're gonna answer this instead of a shot
19:08That he's forgiving
19:10Talk a little bit about that
19:12Let me take the shot. Ah
19:15Okay
19:18Don't kill me jensen. Okay, here we go. Um
19:23So uh one of the nights during the tour I I I may have thrown a drink at him on
19:28stage
19:29I I might have I might have done that I might have done that I might have and I thought
19:32it was trying to be funny and and it wasn't funny and uh
19:36Morgan forgave me. He forgave me. He should have kicked me off the tour
19:38But we laughed about it. We facetimed we talked it through and he's like man
19:42I probably would have done the same thing or i've done the same thing like he understood
19:45So he's a very forgiving person. He has a lot of grace
19:48Um, he's a good man. He's a good man. He's a great guy literally a whole cup a whole cup
19:52I thought I was I thought it was the funniest guy in the world. Yeah. How first night of the
19:56tour
19:58First night of the tour. Yes. Yes. I'm very curious
20:01What happened like when you walked off stage did someone say to you?
20:06What the hell? Yes. Yes and yes. Yes a lot of phone calls a lot of phone calls melinda
20:12Wow, it was really serious. It was really serious
20:15Seth england was not happy. Nobody was happy. Nobody was happy about this. It was uh, you know
20:19This is truth serum by the way. That's yeah, let's go
20:22Let's go go morgan if you're listening. I love you. I'm still really sorry about that
20:26Thank you for not pranking me back by the way
20:28You made me think you were going to the entire tour and you didn't you held back because you're a
20:31man who walks in grace. Thank you, sir
20:34nice
20:36Go
20:37Tom tom is money. Go time is money. Love you morgue. All right
20:49See you've eaten virtually none of your burrito. I know so I know we want you to eat more of
20:53that
20:53But we also want to talk about your virtually none incredible health journey. Yes, you've lost 60 pounds
21:00Cover people magazine. What the heck? How did that even happen? You owe a lot of help from your brother
21:04Like it was really nice that it was almost like he was your coach
21:09You guys were making macaroni and cheese with uh low-fat. He's aging terribly. He's aging terribly and uh, you
21:15know
21:15What a shame the world needs to know this, you know
21:17I'm 40. Kyle looks like he's 50. So
21:21You're right there buddy, but he's healthy. His insides are healthy
21:24His insides are healthy. I owe him a lot
21:27So talk about that. What made you you know in that people article you kind of talked about how you
21:32thought felt like you were killing yourself
21:34Yeah, how do you feel now and what's your one piece of advice to anyone who would be like, you
21:39know what?
21:40I could learn something from this
21:42One piece of advice. Um, I think I think it starts with loving yourself
21:46It really does as simple as that is I think I I got to a point where i'm like
21:49This isn't how I want to treat me and and you know
21:52I want to live a long healthy life and what do I need to do to change that and I
21:55also you know
21:56Like I was I was I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin
21:59It doesn't really matter if like if I was heavy and I felt fine with that it wouldn't have really
22:03mattered to me
22:04You know, but like I just I didn't feel like like I was treating myself very well, you know
22:08So I think that's the advice is like
22:10You can absolutely do it. It's actually not that hard as hard as it seems sometimes
22:13But I think you it's not as hard if you really truly
22:17Get to a place where you give yourself grace and you love yourself
22:20I don't hold myself to a standard where i'm like you can never pick out i'm obviously drinking i'm having
22:24a great time
22:24I'm eating a massive burrito right here. Not really though. Well virtually
22:28I know you're just you're totally teasing me about this, but listen
22:31I'm gonna eat the whole thing and I don't care. I don't care if I eat the whole thing
22:34But i'm not gonna eat the whole thing tomorrow too. Yes, I am. Yes, I am. Maybe tomorrow. I will
22:38come back
22:39But it's also situational like you know, you're here. You know, you can't do this every day in nashville. You
22:44cannot so you're gonna
22:46Enjoy it while you can but then there's a limit. Yeah. Yeah, but I don't know
22:51Like one piece of advice is hard because it's like it is it's not a one-size-fits-all situation
22:54You know, I just think if you want to make a change
22:57It's there's so many ways to do it that that make it easier for you
23:01But I think the main thing is if you're happy with yourself and you love yourself, then you're good. You're
23:05good
23:05But do you feel healthier? I am for sure
23:08And what how does it affect you when you're on stage?
23:11I can run about a tenth of the speed of bailey zimmerman now at least a tenth
23:16Energizer bunny. Yes, uh, he is he is an energizer buddy. I have more energy on stage for sure
23:20I'm more present on stage. I feel better in my own skin. My butt's still really flat, but that's okay
23:25um, I you know, I haven't been doing squats yet. Okay, so we're gonna work on that, but uh
23:31But I'm having more fun. I'm more confident like looking at people in there because you got to look at
23:34people in the eyes
23:35On stage. Do you I do okay? I didn't used to yeah, I was too scared
23:39I wouldn't about that. Oh my god
23:40I wouldn't even look at people in the eyes at all. I would close my eyes the whole time I
23:43would play
23:44And until like a couple years ago really
23:48TR Thomas Rhett he kind of gave me the courage to get out there and really start like connecting connecting
23:53I was watching him and learning from him when I toured with him
23:55But I think i'm in a place now where like that's my favorite part is connecting
23:58I pick out people a few people in the front and I just kind of stick with them
24:02That's so cool. You make their night you absolutely make their night
24:06You had a stint you came to nashville you left
24:10You went back to paradise and sadly lost your let's talk about showing that necklace paradise necklace all right here
24:18You not to get too serious about it, but you lost your house. I lost I lost my apartment
24:22My brother lost his house a lot of people lost
24:25Everything I mean the whole my hometown church. I grew up in you know the one that I
24:28That was an important church to me too
24:31Because it was the one that like I have all my memories of my foundation and in my faith, you
24:35know
24:35Everything happened there. Um, but yeah, it's just it's very unexpected
24:38But I think the big thing for me is I was lucky that my dad lived 10 minutes away. I
24:42had somewhere to stay
24:42You know, but that's devastating. I'm sure when the fires happened here
24:46I don't like to make it like whoa whoa me and stuff because so many people had it worse than
24:50me
24:50But if i'm being really honest with you, it really sucked
24:53It really freaking sucked and like losing like my great-grandparents dining room table and losing my little box
25:00With my first ticket stubs in there and my golden coin my my uncle gave me and my my my
25:04passed away great-grandfather's cigar box
25:06And like things that sucked. Yeah, that really sucked, you know
25:09People say you know, it's only things but they're things that matter to you
25:12And you have they still matter to me even though they're not here
25:14I still think about that table you have a
25:17Tattoo that says live don't exist. I do. Oh right here. Yeah, I'm an eagle
25:23So I was in australia and I met this this guy named dr bill
25:26He was like our physician at the uh, the cmc rocks shows
25:31And he's like, so what have you been up to this week mate, you know, and I was like dude
25:35not a ton
25:35I've just kind of been like trying to recover from the jet lag and stuff. I've been in my hotel
25:38He's like, he's like, why are you in your hotel? He's like, dude, you gotta live don't exist
25:42Oh, it just like stuck with me and i'm like, I want to live every moment completely and not just
25:46exist
25:46You know what I mean? I think it's a good message for everybody, but that's my message
25:49And what percentage of the time do you think you're doing that?
25:52At least 10% at least at least 10%
25:55I'm rocking 10% of that 10% I'm rocking 10% I try every day. I try um
26:01One more tequila question. Oh my god
26:06Melinda, where's the hidden tattoo?
26:10This would be a billboard thing. This is this is the big break. This is this is the moment. We've
26:14been like they're grinning
26:15You're grinning. They're grinning. So just so you guys know there's cameras all around people laughing right now. Just so
26:20you know watching this
26:23I
26:25Geez louise. I Nathaniel Dean Smith
26:27um
26:28Have a spade tattoo on my ass
26:30I do I do I do and it's and it's a little bit high so it's kind of it's it's
26:34sort of a man stamp
26:35I guess you could say it's a little too high. It's not a butterfly
26:38It's it's a it's a spade and it's there and it's there to stay and uh
26:42That's that's that
26:43So it's on your butt. I don't know where my butt starts
26:45So like I don't know like I actually can't really tell like okay my my lower back or my asses,
26:50you know
26:51Um, but it's it's in that world, you know, so it's it's in that region if I bend over just
26:55right you big
26:55I see the top of it for sure. Wow sure on stage. You'll see it sometime, but
27:01Hello, I
27:02Or do you want me to ask you another question? You can ask me anything you want melinda. Um, we
27:07are gonna rate
27:08Your four favorite artists. Let me find that card again
27:12Uh, and you are going to have to tell me if you could duet with only one. Okay. Oh, you
27:18did it already good
27:19All right, who would you choose? I'm tough. So you you are so uh
27:23Your favorite four favorite artists are Kurt Cobain. Okay. Garth Brooks. Michael Jackson and John Fogerty. John Fogerty. Oh my
27:30gosh, yeah
27:30So if you can only only
27:34Do a duet with one
27:36Wow, who do you pick? Wow
27:39I'm not ready for this emotionally
27:41Maybe
27:43Me and garth brooks would re-release the dance together. Oh
27:48Maybe that'd be the song have you talked to him about I've never met him. Okay. What does that song
27:51mean to you a lot?
27:53Um, it's it's it's special to my mom
27:56So I can't not think about her, you know with that song, you know, she says
28:00It's tough to say but she says one day when she passes that's the song she wants at her funeral,
28:04you know
28:04So there's that it also was a song that was used in my my uncle's wedding
28:08So I have that memory with it
28:09I grew up watching him fly around stage and just wanting to be him so bad, you know
28:14Like and I still you know look up to him so much
28:17So I think that would be a moment for me that I'd be like, holy crap nine-year-old nate
28:21You just sing a song with garth brooks and you cut a song with him and it's that song
28:26Okay, garth if you're watching we just had a I don't know realization here. I don't know. Yeah
28:29If you're watching I would literally die. I would die
28:37We're gonna talk about avril the main let's talk about avril that song can you die from a broken heart
28:43Still gets to mind that is a that is a song. I mean that is really like kind of guts
28:49open
28:51song
28:52Talk about recording with her and are you a skater boy?
29:00Avril avril is one of my favorite people
29:02She's honestly one of my favorite human beings in every way. We're still friends. We text we talk all the
29:06time
29:06It's funny. I actually saw like a there was a there was an ai video
29:10I don't know if you've seen these things where it shows people going through different eras of their life
29:13But it showed like her going through all these different boyfriends like she's with chad or husband, you know chad
29:17and these other people at the very end
29:19He goes rumored nate smith and like i'm walking out of like
29:22Uh, the the place that we're at catch
29:24I think it was where the steak place it shows us up there. I'm like, oh my gosh
29:27So like I said to her like laughing about it and stuff
29:29But she's so freaking talented, but she's so humble
29:31She might seem like she's pretty tough because she's like emo girl and all stuff and she definitely is like
29:35I would never like mess with her, you know in a million years like she's tough
29:39But she's like she's really humble. She's a really humble. She'll take my call anytime
29:44Anytime. Yeah
29:45And what about uh, am I a skater boy? I suck. I suck. So now the answer is no
29:49Did she try to get you on a skateboard? Yes, she did. It's it's on videos out there. There's paparazzi
29:54watching this happen
29:55It was it was unbelievable, but you didn't break anything
29:58Yeah, because I was scared of falling so like I just I barely skated on the thing. So yeah
30:03I think it's time for you to eat your burrito. It's ice cold now
30:06Oh, man, this is like the first time that you have been making me drink the whole time
30:10Like I was trying to eat you're like drinking take another shot
30:12I know we've completely come full circle. Okay. I'm so hungry. You're like, I don't care. I don't care
30:16I don't care about your well-being. I'm a taskmaster. I'm a stern. I'm a stern
30:21So we've gone full circle back to the first time you had one. Yeah on a private plane
30:26cold
30:28And here we are again
30:30Yes, yes, thank you for playing five shots five questions. You're welcome. You're welcome
30:35Because I'm gonna be very shots. I'm gonna have a headache tomorrow. I did one. Yeah
30:39Let's just keep score on that for future reference and thank you very very much
30:44We played it a little differently than we have before but you can put your gucci sunglasses back. Hey, don't
30:49tease me
30:50You're a wonderful date. Thank you
30:52But I just feel bad you didn't eat but the gucci sunglasses are key
30:57Especially because we're in west hollywood here in la you got to be a star
31:01That's right. That's right. Rocking my cherry. I'm saying got my thing
31:04I got my chain. You got your chain. What's up? What's up? What's up? What you know about that?
31:09You're doing it. You're doing it. What you know about that? Melinda and Billboard. Come on. Billboard
31:13You guys are amazing. She's she's wacky. We love her to pieces. She's a bad influence
31:18Just be careful if she asks you to interview and go out to a little date because she may
31:22She may make you indulge. It might happen. It might happen. I take full responsibility. Okay, you heard it there
31:28Thank you very much. She's good. She's good if you guys are watching. She's very very much, Nate. Yeah, you're
31:32welcome. Thank you so much
