00:52Today, we're giving you the first look at the mysterious homeworld of House Faroon.

01:50We love Starfield's massive open galaxy, but from early on in our planning,
01:54we knew we wanted to introduce a more secluded and handcrafted location,
01:58similar to what we've seen from our past expansions.
02:04There's so much mystery to House Faroon,
02:06and because they've so thoroughly isolated themselves,
02:09it made them the perfect faction to explore in a completely self-contained experience.
02:14And so you arise, one of the promised of House Faroon.
02:20From the minute you arrive on Faroon Kai, the story never sends you off planning.
02:25You're free to leave at any time,
02:26but the story is fully centered around life on the Faroon homeworld.
02:29Everything you discover, every location you visit,
02:32every side mission you seek out,
02:34it all tells the story of what happened here
02:36and how the Varun people have survived,
02:38cut off from the comforts of the settled systems and the rest of humanity.

03:01One of our main themes throughout the base game
03:04is humanity's search for knowledge.
03:06Shattered Space is still about that search,
03:09but it's also about what happens when it goes too far.
03:13It's a very extreme pursuit,
03:15and it has backfired horribly for the people of House Faroon.
03:19My brother Kwasim has been missing for days.
03:23I'm beginning to worry that something terrible has happened to him.
03:54Before the start of Shattered Space,
03:56a secret experiment involving grav-drive technology went terribly wrong.
04:02It resulted in a massive tear in the fabric of space-time
04:07that swallowed a significant portion of the Varun capital of Dasra.
04:13You arrive just a few weeks after the Vortex Incident.
04:17It's still very fresh in everyone's minds.
04:19There's a massive crater in their city.
04:21Nothing has been reconstructed.
04:23People are still searching for missing loved ones.
04:26Supplies are limited.
04:27There is so much work to be done.
04:29The Scaled Citadel, the seat of power for the Varun government,
04:33is now trapped within a strange field of energy.
04:36Among those missing is Anasko Varun,
04:38leader of the Varun people and speaker for the Great Serpent.
04:42In his absence, the minor houses that make up House Varun
04:45are all vying for control over the faction's future.
04:48The Zealots were once a part of Varun society.
04:53They want to continue the Serpent's Crusade.
04:56They'll demand an inordinate amount of credits or firearms.

05:45Varun Kai and Dazer City are like no other location in the base game.
05:53From its inception, House Varun has been driven by a singular, unique vision.
05:58Because of this, Varun Kai has a completely distinct visual identity.
06:02We say it's very alien.
06:03You'll see this in the extraterrestrial landscape,
06:07gravity anomalies,
06:09and much more.
06:35Varun Kai is located in the Kavnik system,
06:37and it's not the friendliest environment.
06:39They believed the Great Serpent led them to Varun Kai,
06:43and their whole purpose in being here is to await its return.
06:47You have no concept of what the Great Serpent demands of us.
06:51All must serve.
06:54It's a dangerous planet,
06:56and a lot of the people have retreated to Dazra
06:58in order to survive and protect their culture and their way of life.
07:02Now you'll find areas of the planet that were abandoned,
07:05and have since been taken over by Zealots,
07:07Spacers,
07:08and Crimson Fleet.
07:09And humans aren't the only dangers in the Badlands of the planet.
07:14With the line between reality and the Vortex breaking down,
07:18creatures from the other side can slip through.
07:21like the Vortex horror.
07:23When you disturb the barrier between our world and theirs,
07:27they can sense it,
07:28creating these honestly terrifying ambush scenarios.
07:36In the base game,
07:38there's a lot of focus around ranged gun combat.
07:40You can engage in a firefight from way in the distance.
07:43In Shattered Space, we're closing that distance.
07:47Space is scary.
07:51Part of getting that across
07:53is amping up the aggression and the chaos of combat.
08:31As you explore the city of Dazra and the surrounding planet,
08:35you'll learn the truth of what happened,
08:37become entangled in the political feud between the minor houses,
08:40and ultimately decide the fate of House Varun,
08:43a fate that could affect the rest of the settled systems.
