00:00This was supposed to be, man, as we were planning out yesterday, you know, kind of planning out,
00:05okay, this is going to be a great day in Houston sports.
00:08Like, this is opening day of baseball, man.
00:10And I know the Astros aren't what they used to be, but they're still a respectable ball club,
00:14and it's still opening day.
00:15You know, it's opening day of baseball.
00:17Yeah, because the marketing bastards want you to believe that there wasn't a baseball game played last night.
00:23But yes, yes, it's opening day.
00:25It's opening day for baseball.
00:26Well, the golf tournament starts this morning.
00:30Yes.
00:30The Cougs play tonight.
00:32Like, this is, and it's all laid out in such a way, Seth, that you can go do all of
00:37these things if you've got tickets for it.
00:39And not only can you go do all of these things, you can partake in all the lanyap around it
00:44as well.
00:45The golf tournament starts, there's people probably driving to the golf course right now.
00:48It starts at, like, 7.20 in the morning.
00:50So you can go catch, you know, go catch a few of your favorites teeing off there for a few
00:55hours.
00:55Eat a little Beck's Prime out there at Memorial.
00:58They're serving Beck's Prime out at the golf tournament, I learned, yesterday.
01:02Eat a little lunch.
01:03And then you can go partake in the Street Fest over by Dyken Park.
01:07And then ease into the stadium.
01:11And watch Hunter Brown go deal for a couple hours.
01:13And then you've got time to go eat dinner before the Cougs don't even tip off until, like, 9 o
01:17'clock.
01:17So if you're not inclined to go watch Nebraska and Iowa or you can show up late for it, just
01:23watch the second half and then get all amped up for the Cougs game.
01:26You can go from 7.20 in the morning through midnight staying busy, but you're not rushed the whole day,
01:33the whole thing.
01:35And then the Rockets last night.
01:39The Rockets had a chance to be the appetizer in all this.
01:42They gave themselves a chance to be the appetizer in all this.
01:46And they blew it again.
01:48They blew it again.
01:49If you didn't stay up for this last night, God bless you.
01:52I stayed up for the whole thing and the postgame and everything else.
01:56And the Rockets, if you missed it, give them credit.
02:00They came back from down 11 with about three minutes to go in regulation.
02:04So they fought back and then they destroyed the Timberwolves for the first two minutes of overtime.
02:11They scored the first 13 points.
02:13So it looked like they were going to waltz out of that building with a victory.
02:17And then they gave up the last 15 points of the game.
02:20Just slowly handed the lead and handed the ball back to them and let them back in.
02:25Didn't defend and turned the ball over a jillion times.
02:29To be clear, everybody who didn't watch this atrocity, it was a 15-0 run.
02:35They allowed 15 straight.
02:40What happened, Sean?
02:41I'm pissed at the Rockets.
02:43Oh, God.
02:44I thought you were mad at me.
02:45No.
02:46You were over in the corner.
02:47I looked down and I looked up and you were sitting in the corner.
02:51I'm so mad at this.
02:53I am so mad.
02:55They have, and here's the thing, they've been doing this now for two months.
02:59God, I think I broke my hand.
03:01They've been doing this now for two months.
03:04And it's not that they lose.
03:06It's that they lose in the most soul-crushing fashions possible.
03:09And damn it.
03:11Sorry, kids.
03:12It's that these games start at 830 and I stay up for the whole damn thing until the end.
03:17And I can't sleep afterwards because I'm so mad at this team.
03:21I'm so pissed off at this team.
03:23And I tweeted last night after the game.
03:26Here's where I'm at with the Rockets, Seth.
03:28Here's where I'm at.
03:30I don't care what you do.
03:32You know, all the talk is, do you trade for Giannis in the offseason?
03:35Do you run it back?
03:36Ooh, can they do it with Fred VanVleet?
03:38What if they get Steven Adams back?
03:39This team is maybe the dumbest team I've ever rooted for.
03:43They're not dumb people, but they play dumb.
03:46They play stupid.
03:47They play stupid, careless basketball.
03:50They play sloppy basketball.
03:52And you know what?
03:54Do whatever you want.
03:55Trade for Giannis.
03:56I don't care.
03:57Run it back.
03:57I don't care.
03:58Until you stop playing like you did in the last three minutes of that overtime last night,
04:02I don't care about you anymore.
04:04I don't care.
04:05You're going to be in the postseason.
04:07Big deal.
04:08Oh, this is the least enthusiastic I can remember ever being about a team going into the postseason.
04:16Sorry about that, Seth.
04:17I didn't mean to make you think that I was mad at you.
04:19I'm just so mad at this team.
04:20Well, it comes from a long history of me doing, you know, things that justifiably make you angry.
04:24So you had the same look on your face when I make you angry.
04:29No, no.
04:30This is the thing.
04:31Okay, you get to overtime.
04:32And Braddo on X had these stats.
04:35And this is not going to be a shock to anybody.
04:38It matches the eyeball test.
04:39But in the last two games, this is what the Rockets bench has done.
04:45Tari Eason, leader in the clubhouse, was seven points.
04:48What did he shoot?
04:50Two for 12 in the last two games.
04:53Holiday, six points.
04:54Tate, five points.
04:56Capella, two points.
04:57Okoge, zero points.
04:59Dorian Finney-Smith.
05:01Remember him?
05:02Yeah.
05:02Remember him?
05:03Thank God they protected him.
05:05Zero points.
05:06He's 0 for 1.
05:07They've combined 20 points in the last two games.
05:10So you try to, yeah, you're going to win a game in overtime with your bench giving you this.
05:14And you're right.
05:15You're exactly right about they're not stupid individuals.
05:18No.
05:18But they play like a stupid basketball team.
05:21Yes.
05:22Which I go back to my old, what I always stand by in football, which is when smart people
05:27are doing stupid things, you have to turn your eyes towards the bench and ask the coach
05:33what the hell's going on here.
05:35Yes.
05:35Why are smart people doing stupid things over and over and over again?
05:39Right.
05:39It's impossible not to question what's going on on the coaching side of things.
05:44You know what his press conferences sound like right now, Seth?
05:46And this is going to be the ultimate, sorry, I had to clear my throat.
05:50The ultimate indictment is his, Ime Udoka's press conferences right now, where he sits down
05:57there at the podium.
05:58And then he just talks about how this is the most disgusting loss of the year.
06:03He's done that like four times in the last six weeks.
06:05Yeah.
06:06You know, the, the, the one on Monday against the bulls, we disrespected the game last night.
06:11He sits down.
06:12He's all pissed off at his team.
06:13He sounds like Steven Silas did at the end when it looked like the team wasn't listening
06:18to him.
06:18Remember Steven Silas had that press conference where he's like, and I just can't get them
06:23to do this.
06:24Yeah.
06:25That's Ime Udoka right now on a team that has several players that are viewed as rising
06:31stars in the league on a team that has one of the all-time great players in Kevin Durant
06:36on it.
06:37I mean, Steven Silas was at least saying it about a bunch of 19 year olds that there
06:41were probably just not listening to him as a head coach because a, he wasn't a good head
06:45coach.
06:46B it was a bad team and C they were young and immature.
06:50This is a mature, this is supposed to be a mature team.
06:54That's building on.
06:55I gotta hate that we're doing this on this day.
06:57This was supposed to be a great day and the rockets spoiled it last night and they've
07:01been, and it's not an isolated incident.
07:03That's why I'm so angry about this.
07:05They, they're like 13 and 13 or something like that.
07:09In their last 26 games, they are a 500 basketball team.
07:12They are as middling as you get.
07:13They play competitively with crappy teams.
07:15They lose to good teams and they lose in the most cataclysmic way possible.
07:20So it's been this way for a while.
07:21This isn't me just coming in and railing because they gave up 15 points at the end of
07:24overtime.
07:25This is, I think the two of us being very angry about this because it's, it is a pattern
07:30with this team.
07:31It is a losing stupid pattern with this team.
07:36And on a day where we're supposed to be celebrating the golf tournament and opening day and the
07:40sweet 16 tonight, I'm just coming in today.
07:43So angry at this basketball team right now.
07:45Are you at this point too, where I even like Shane Goon, Shane Goon was a monster defensively.
07:52He had four blocks, hit that one block on Randall where he comes up and his lip is all bloody.
07:57That was at the end of the game that he saved the game.
07:59That was the last play of regulation.
08:01But I can't even enjoy that because now in my mind, I'm like, well, where, where was this
08:05before?
08:06Well, what the hell?
08:07Okay.
08:07Thanks for showing up.
08:09Thanks for showing us this version of Shane Goon.
08:11Now.
08:11Yep.
08:12Blocked the shot early in overtime as well.
08:14But then, but then Shane Goon does what he does when, when it's panic time.
08:18And he, he gets the ball at the top of the key.
08:21They need a basket.
08:22Timberwolves are closing in in overtime.
08:24And he does that thing where he's dribbling like Stanley from the office where the ball looks
08:28like he could, it looks like he could lose the ball at any minute off his foot.
08:31And he's, he's backing the guy down, backing the guy down.
08:34And then he just, you know, he's shooting it because there's only two seconds left on the
08:37shot clock.
08:38So there's, there's no nuance to it.
08:40There's no ball faking the guy.
08:42He's got to go up with it.
08:43And he gets his shot sent back at him like this.
08:45And Kevin Durant and I, and look, Kevin Durant's been their best player all year.
08:50And he's, you know, he, he's the, he hits big baskets for them.
08:54There's no question about that.
08:55He hit some big baskets last night to help them.
08:57He was the guy spearheading the comeback from down 11 offensively.
09:01These turnovers are to call them JV turnovers is an insult to all the junior varsity basketball
09:08teams in the greater Houston area.
09:10These are, these are weak turnovers.
09:12These are turnovers that look like come from somebody who's got a body like Kevin Durant.
09:17Kevin Durant physically looks like the guy who gets sand kicked in him in his face at
09:22the beach.
09:22He's not that obviously he's the, you know, easy money sniper and everything, except when
09:27he's handling the basketball and he just gives it away.
09:30Guys just strip him.
09:31He just throws lazy passes.
09:33He just, I mean, the, the, the turnover, he turned the ball over at the end there that
09:37allowed them to tie the game up in overtime.
09:39Like it's just, and he missed a free throw.
09:41He had a chance to tie the game with like three seconds to go.
09:44He got fouled 3.3 seconds to go and he misses the first.
09:47So then he's misses the first.
09:49So then he's got to intentionally miss the second, just to give them a chance.
09:54God, I just don't like this team right now, man.
09:56It's a, it's rough.
09:58It's rough.
09:58And you're right.
09:59It's extra.
09:59It was supposed to be, this was supposed to be the greatest, one of the greatest days
10:02in Houston sports history.
10:04It's in terms of anticipating all the fun things to do real quick, real quick.
10:08Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:09And I don't know if it was your rage that fueled this or not, but the way you said it
10:13earlier, did you, did you not know that Beck's has a location at Memorial Hermann?
10:20Of course I know.
10:21Yeah.
10:21Oh, okay.
10:21All right.
10:22Okay.
10:22The way you said it, I thought maybe that you, you thought it was something unique that
10:26they were serving up there.
10:27Cause that's one of the, that's one of the best places, like one of the most unique and
10:30cool places to eat in Houston.
10:33Oh yeah.
10:34Yeah.
10:34It's right there.
10:34For any of you that don't know.
10:35You go on a little walk through Memorial Park.
10:37Yeah.
10:37Yeah.
10:38And just, yeah.
10:39Okay.
10:39I assumed you did, but you're so angry.
10:42I didn't want to ask in the moment.
10:43I didn't want to interrupt your floor.
10:45It's okay.
10:45No, they were really pushing it out on social yesterday that they're, they're there for
10:49the people attending the golf tournament.
10:50Yeah.
10:51I would have been surprised if you didn't know that cause you're a Beck's connoisseur,
10:54but I thought maybe that had somehow slipped through your.
10:56I appreciate you.
10:56I appreciate you have my back on that, man.
10:58That was one of the first points.
10:59There was one, I can't remember when I went there for the first time, but it was just
11:02like I had stumbled into a gold mine.
11:04An oasis.
11:05Yeah.
11:06Wait a second.
11:07I'm like in like this peaceful setting, but I've got a delicious burger and this is,
11:13this is just about heaven.
11:14It's not at the end of a strip mall or anything.
11:16It's just sitting right there.
11:17It's a strange, you don't, you get that, that, that, that burger wafting into your nostrils.
11:24Well, yeah, it's cool.
11:25They'll do business.
11:26Yeah.
11:27So, uh, yeah.
11:28In terms of the actual good stuff going on in Houston today, the Rockets aren't losing
11:34where they're not planning on losing a game at any time between now and when the Astros
11:37start playing baseball, they're so bad right now.
11:39They might schedule a baseball.
11:40They're so bad right now.
11:41They might go schedule a pickup game with somebody and lose it just to keep, just to keep
11:45dropping turds into our toilet here.
11:47As we, uh, I don't want to see Jabari Smith jr.
11:49You're out there getting a burger at the golf tournament because he'll drop it.
11:54He's going to, he'll try to, he'll try to throw it to his buddy and it's going to land
11:58on an old lady's hair or something.
12:00Yes.
12:01All right.
12:01Okay.
12:02So let's do, you're right, Seth.
12:03We should shift gears.
12:04We've been angry 12 minutes and 40 seconds now.
12:07Um, no IL for Jeremy Pena, Jeremy Pena, no IL that 400 foot bomb or whatever it was that
12:14he hit in that exhibition game against the space Cowboys was enough to, they didn't
12:19an MRI on that home run.
12:21They're like, all right, it's 78% healed.
12:24We're good to go.
12:25Yep.
12:25Um, the, the, the, uh, the opening day roster is, is out for, it was out yesterday for the
12:31Astros.
12:31They made their final decisions.
12:32And I guess the biggest surprise would be that Zach Cole is going back to sugar land and
12:37Bryce Matthews, who we talked about on the show yesterday.
12:40And you could tell Dana Brown and talking about Bryce Matthews now in retrospect, you go
12:44back and listen to what Dana Brown had to say to him on the broadcast on Tuesday and
12:48be like, Oh yeah, he's making the team.
12:50Cause he really talked about his versatility.
12:52Um, he's, he was drafted as an infielder, but he's been playing a lot of outfield in
12:56spring training and Bryce Matthews, at least temporarily seems to have carved out a spot
13:02for himself as kind of the, at least on paper, you know, kind of that Dubon role where he
13:08can, you know, Oh my God, we've got an emergency at second base, third base shortstop, one of
13:12the outfield spots.
13:13We got Bryce, um, that went out the door with Mauricio Dubon.
13:17Now we'll see Bryce Matthews as to prove he's a big league hitter.
13:20That was probably the biggest surprise for me.
13:22Cause Zach Cole was penciled in as the starting left fielder by a lot of the people forecasting
13:27this season for the Astros, which I thought was a little presumptive.
13:31He's got 48 plate appearances in his career.
13:33Yeah.
13:34Yeah.
13:34Yeah.
13:35I guess at the beginning of spring training, it just seemed like the most likely candidate
13:40to win that battle if, uh, if it were to happen, but there's still, you know, there are going
13:45to be questions at the corner infields regardless, you know, and what I remember too, I mean, it
13:50wasn't a foregone conclusion that Cam Smith was even going to make the roster at the beginning
13:53of spring training and he's, he's done well in spring training, uh, was good at the plate.
13:58We know he's fine defensively.
14:00So, um, that was, I don't want to say it was a technicality.
14:04I mean, it was a very real chance that he wouldn't have made the squad if he had underperformed
14:07in spring training.
14:08Yeah.
14:09So, uh, that, that's, um, that's where we are with that.
14:12Yep.
14:13Um, so opening day, Omar Lopez is going to throw out the first pitch celebrating and commemorate
14:18to Javier Bracamonte, who they were, they were both part.
14:21Omar Lopez is the manager of the Venezuelan team that won the WBC a week or two ago.
14:26Bracamonte was on his staff.
14:28So the Astros are going to celebrate that.
14:29Uh, Ryan Presley, if you're going out to the game is going to be screaming out play ball.
14:34He gets the play ball first call.
14:35He's part of the space city home network.
14:38I mean, there's two things I'm looking forward to seeing Seth Ryan Presley on space city to
14:42see how he is as a broadcaster, aside from just baseball.
14:45I'm looking forward to, um, I am looking forward to our first regular season venture with the
14:51new automated balls and strikes to see how it gets to see how it gets handled in real
14:56games by the Astros.
14:57I guess last night, uh, the, the first automated strike call in baseball history, in Major League
15:05Baseball history, uh, was during an, uh, an interview.
15:09Uh, so it was, yeah, yeah, they couldn't, uh, I didn't, I didn't go back and watch it, but I
15:15just
15:15saw the, I saw people tweeting about it, that it was kind of awkward, that it was one of those
15:18classic moments that happens in baseball when something really important or interesting is
15:22happening on the field, but they're doing a, an in-game interview and they couldn't necessarily
15:26do it justice.
15:27So they were talking to one of the managers of the Giants, the Giants of the Yankees.
15:30I don't know.
15:30I'm guessing because it was Netflix that it was one of, I'm guessing they had, uh, they
15:35had a ball boy mic'd up or something.
15:37Right.
15:37And just, they, they, about Burt Kreischer was playing left field.
15:41I don't know.
15:42It was, uh, whatever gimmicky thing they could be doing to actually interrupt the baseball
15:46game.
15:46I'm guessing that's what Netflix was doing.
15:48Did you see, did you happen to catch any of the Jameis Winston, uh, clips?
15:52Uh, we've got a couple of clips.
15:53Yep.
15:53Yeah.
15:54At some point.
15:55Uh, and, uh, you kind of forget that Jameis Winston was a college baseball player.
15:59Pretty good one too.
15:59Yeah.
16:00I mean, that used to be a big story back in the day.
16:02Yeah.
16:02And, uh, so I, I, I enjoyed the clips I saw of them.
16:06I think, uh, it's, it's, they do the, they always do these things that are, I feel like
16:12the producers think, oh, well, this will be easy because he doesn't have to talk hardcore
16:16baseball or anything, but it's actually him doing kind of interviews on the fly, which
16:20was one of the hardest things to do in sports media, uh, with, uh, you know, just walking
16:24around and talking to people and everything.
16:26Uh, and I thought he did well.
16:28He's pretty good.
16:28If that was his first time in that environment, I thought he did really, really well.
16:33I think I actually really did hurt my hand, Seth.
16:35Just see.
16:35You were, I like, honestly, you gave me, you were sitting in the corner looking exactly
16:40like you did after I hit you in the eye with a Tide Pod at Radio Row.
16:44That's what they asked the, the, uh, Rockets have done.
16:46They've thrown a metaphorical Tide Pod at my eye.
16:48That's how angry you were.
16:49Yeah.
16:50I was Tide Pod angry.
16:52You're right though, too, because it's the double whammy of you're angry about the performance,
16:57but then you're also angry that you end up, I, I missed sleep for this.
17:01I, I just, I, I'm sleep deprived all day because of that trash.
17:06What the hell?
17:07Well, and, and I'll, I'll throw another log on the fire here.
17:10Charlie got voted off survivor last night.
17:12He did?
17:13Yes.
17:13Oh, it was a bad night of TV for me.
17:16I did my, my likely future son-in-law gets voted off of survivor and then right.
17:22And that ended at eight 30, which was tip off for the Rockets.
17:25If you'll accept them into your family, that is.
17:27Yeah.
17:28It's up in the air now.
17:29It's a two time loser on survivor.
17:30It's up in the air now.
17:31Yep.
17:31I got it.
17:32He was running.
17:32He will at least the first time he was, he was runner up and he was screwed over.
17:36Yes.
17:37Even by survivor standards.
17:38He got screwed over.
17:39Yeah.
17:40This one, what happened this time?
17:42I mean, he, they all get screwed over.
17:44He got, he, he got into the opposite of an Alliance.
17:46He got into a back end, you know, he, he got into a rivalry with somebody who was able
17:51to sell their tribe on, he got voted out four to three.
17:55So I bet he's a, I bet he's a, I bet he's, he's in a tough spot now because his
17:59strategy
18:00the first time around was to be the good guy.
18:02Yeah.
18:03But, but underneath it all, he was manipulating everybody.
18:06Well, well, well, playing the role of the good guy.
18:09Yes.
18:09And that's hard to, it's hard to get away with a second time.
18:11I guess they all know now too, that he's a Harvard educated lawyer, which is very easy to hate.
18:17Yeah.
18:17Nobody, he kept it secret that he was a Harvard lawyer in the first time around.
18:21Yeah.
18:22Now he's a fancy lad.
18:24Can't keep it a secret.
18:25Yeah.
18:25That probably factored in.
18:26He's a, you know what he is.
18:27He's, uh, he's Eric DaCosta.
18:30Like everybody, nobody wants to do, do a deal with him anymore.
18:33That's right.
18:34He's like making a trade with the Ravens.
18:35Like, all right, sure.
18:37He got black.
18:37Yeah.
18:37Oh yeah.
18:38I'm sure you'll keep your word fella.
18:40Oh man.
18:40My hand hurts.
