A man and woman caught engaging in a sexual act at the Batu Gantung Chinese Cemetery have each been jailed for a year.

M. Jegathesan, 58, and Halila Abu Bakar, 37, pleaded guilty to committing the offence when charged at the Magistrate's Court in George Town on Thursday (March 22).

00:1558-year-old M. Jagathezen and 37-year-old Halila Abu Bakar pleaded guilty to committing the
00:22offence and were charged under Section 377D of the Penal Code for Gross Indecency in a
00:29public place.
00:30Their lawyer R. Purantharan mitigated for a lighter sentence, citing Halila's unemployment
00:36and Jagathezen being the sole breadwinner for his family.
00:40However, the deputy public prosecutor Lau Shavin urged a deterrent sentence, noting the offence
00:46occurred at a cemetery and stressing the need to set an example.
00:49The case drew public outrage after a video showing a naked man and a partially undressed
