00:00I've noticed some fans being surprised by what book he had chosen to put in his back pocket.
00:05And that is Knits of a Native Son.
00:10You just keep this handy for occasions like this.
00:13I thought that I might not have that much to do today.
00:18But, man, I was wrong.
00:20What did that choice in literature tell you about Ogilvy and what he aspires to emulate?
00:27Well, there is a snippet of the scene that was cut.
00:30And I think it's really interesting because now the story is a little bit different because it didn't make it
00:33into the edit.
00:34But in the rest of that scene, he hands him notes of the Native Son to Mr. Green.
00:39And he says, you know, I thought I would have a lot of time to do it today.
00:43But, boy, was I wrong.
00:45And then he takes himself out of it and he says, well, this is my dad's favorite.
00:50So English teacher to English teacher.
00:52I thought you might enjoy it.
00:53And I think it's interesting that he carries with him a well-loved, I think, previously read copy of Baldwin
01:02in an attempt to better understand his dad.
01:06And that book also is so gorgeous.
01:09So here's the thing that I love about I'm learning about TV and it's blowing my mind is that now
01:13the story is different.
01:14You know what I mean?
01:15The story exists differently.
01:17It's almost as if that dad part has been excised and it never was because it's not in the final
01:22thing.
01:23And so it's like, why would Ogilvy himself be reading Notes of a Native Son without the influence of his
01:27father?
01:28And that, to me, is really also telling of this other side of him, you know, this availability that he
01:36has to ideas more than perhaps in the immediacy of people.
01:41A tolerance for greater understanding and how he struggles with implementing it in the immediate.
