BEARDED WOMAN LOSES FRIENDS AFTER DITCHING RAZOR
WITH VID AND PIX
By Kiara Wells
A body hair–proud Brit is taking the internet by storm after binning her razor and boldly embracing her beard.
Bethany Burgoyne, 35, from London, UK, once dreamed of splashing the cash on laser hair removal – but had a dramatic change of heart when the chance finally came.
Instead of zapping her fuzz away, Bethany decided to grow it out and has spent the last four years proudly rocking her body and facial hair.
Bethany said: “When I was 26, my biggest dream was to be able to have enough money for laser hair removal.
“It wasn’t until I put that dream out there that the complete opposite happened. I started to question why that was my biggest dream and started to look at the lack of examples around hair on humans and women specifically.”
After multiple GP visits and medical tests, Bethany was told she has no hormone-related conditions behind her hair growth.
Instead, she proudly calls herself a 'hirsute babe'. (meaning hairy)
“I just have hair, which can be confusing, even for myself sometimes.”
Since sharing her journey online, Bethany says the response has been overwhelmingly positive – though trolls haven’t stayed quiet.
“I would say 70% is good, happy personal messages coming in.” She explained.
“But then we have a healthy dose of haters. There’s a lot of question marks around it because we have a lack of women and female identifying people with a beard.”
Bethany has since turned her bold look into a booming platform, hosting her own show, The Sassy Show, which champions body positivity and smashes taboos.
“There’s two iterations of The Sassy Show. One is online. It was a space I created where I pulled down the veil around taboo topics.
“The second iteration of it is a live kinky cabaret performance of the show.
“I’m very funny and I’m very kinky so the two come together. One of the reasons I do it is because I want people to see in real life what my body looks like and how they can also feel great in their skin in a sexy way and bust through all these ideas of what ‘sexy should look like.’”
Bethany revealed she has lost close family and friends since ditching the razor.
“They would find it uncomfortable to be around someone who was making that choice."
“They think so differently to me and they just make me feel judged.
“Anyone that’s going on this journey, you are allowed to choose who you hang out with – even if it’s your mum. You can put a bit of distance there for a time.”

00:00My four year old niece asked me, why you got a beard Auntie Bethy? Answering that kind of question
00:05to a small child. I told her that a lot of women have hair on their face, but most of
00:11them choose
00:11to get rid of it. She said, I don't want to have a beard Auntie Bethy. And I told her
00:16that's all
00:16right. You can choose to get rid of it if you want. In my heart of hearts, I wish her
00:21response
00:22had been, I can't wait to have a beard when I get older. So I wonder how many years it
00:26will take
00:27for the lovely ladies. Grow up with a new idea that actually having a beard can be desirable,
00:33whatever gender you are. Come here, I've got something to share. It's only hairy, which
00:37means pubes are burk. The armpit hair is in fashion. And that little moustache has time
00:42to grow. Got a beard. You know what I get here, because every time I see another AFAB person,
00:49a woman with a beard, I'm like, so I see you in my comment section and I'm here to remind
00:54you that women can also have beards.
