00:00Can you briefly tell us the story of the little boy?
00:03Yeah, this was a mission that we were in in Afghanistan.
00:07We were basically told, hold the flank.
00:09We knew the Taliban were going to try to come up our rear with Al-Qaeda, partnered with them.
00:15And it was just in this mission, three Americans partnered with 90 Arab soldiers, partnered with another 180 Afghans.
00:25So closest I'll get to Lawrence of Arabia, talk about being alone and afraid sometimes.
00:29And we were told to hold the line.
00:31Sure enough, we started taking mortar fire and it started walking in closer and closer.
00:37And very quickly, one of my snipers spotted a little boy up on a hill, maybe 10, 12 years old.
00:45Every time he brought up binoculars and a cell phone, another round came in.
00:50And very quickly, my sniper asked me for permission to take the kid out because clearly he was the spotter.
00:57He was on a 50 cal Barrett.
01:00And for our shooters out there, that round would have, I would have split that kid in half.
01:05And he asked for permission.
01:08I was thinking of my kids.
01:11I was thinking, you know, what was going on with this?
01:14He was clearly unarmed.
01:16But do you call a cell phone a weapon in this case?
01:19And I told him, long story short, I told him to take a warning shot.
01:24After my sniper called me everything under the sun, he took a warning shot.
01:28The kid ran away.
01:30We chased him into his village.
01:32The round stopped.
01:33So clearly it was him.
01:34And it turned out the Taliban had been there that morning and told all the families, give us your oldest
01:39son to go attack the Americans or else.
01:43One family had refused and they hung their seven-year-old little boy.
