00:03Working on Saripan
00:04was both thrilling
00:06and kind of scary experience, to be honest.
00:08We had great expectations
00:09from the players, and we had
00:11this enormous ambition built up
00:13after our previous game, Witcher 3.
00:15From the art direction standpoint, it's like
00:17starting over, pretty much.
00:20Night City
00:21is a vast place.
00:23It is vast both horizontally
00:25and vertically. It is filled
00:27with a very large variety of
00:29architecture styles.
00:31We had to make sure that all those settings
00:33look good at any hour,
00:35any second, with any LED,
00:38flashlights, neons,
00:39dynamically turned on and off at any time.
00:42For me, the critical thing
00:43was to prepare like normal,
00:45believable day and night cycle.
00:47Having these two worlds, like greyed out,
00:49sunburned, seedy streets,
00:51mixed with super colorful,
00:53vivid streets at night,
00:55and having that slowly
00:56blending within time, was the
00:59big challenge for us.
01:00The first time I actually saw all of it come together.
01:03The bustling streets, the lights,
01:05the cars driving and flying
01:07above you, it was mind-blowing.
01:08It was an absolutely crazy experience.
01:10Then they turned RTX on,
01:12and it took on a whole new level.
01:17We worked very closely with NVIDIA
01:19to bring ray tracing to the game,
01:21and as we were progressing
01:23with the work, we were trying
01:25a lot of approaches, and at the end
01:27what we get is something
01:29that plays together with the rest of the feature
01:31very nicely.
01:32With ray tracing, the whole idea
01:34of making this a world simulator
01:36gets this extra crazy boost.
01:38The first thing I'd like to point out
01:40is the shadows.
01:41When you have the whole city,
01:42you see it through the horizon,
01:44and it's all so complex,
01:45you have antennas,
01:45you have buildings, cars, people,
01:47everything is super busy.
01:48And normally, you need to do some shortcuts,
01:51and ray tracing is cutting the shortcuts.
01:53Everything is getting a perfect shadow.
01:56Another thing that I really love
01:57about ray tracing,
01:58and though I didn't really realize
02:00how important that is until I saw it,
02:03is ray traced reflections.
02:07Night City is full of reflective surfaces.
02:10Glass, aluminum, metals, rain paddles,
02:13and being able to leverage real-time ray tracing
02:16make that experience even more convincing to the player.
02:19You can see in reflection studies behind you.
02:22You can see in reflections even further and further away from you.
02:24Your brain gets this extra pillow of comfort
02:27because you understand the reality better when you play.
02:30That's a huge bonus.
02:32Ray Trace visuals are further than has with NVIDIA DLSS.
02:35It utilizes AI-accelerated rendering
02:38to maximize performance and image quality
02:40as you explore Night City.
02:43The more realistic graphics are getting,
02:45the easier it is for players to fully immerse themselves
02:48in the world that we're creating.
02:50So when it comes to providing games that are cutting edge,
02:53you have to use cutting edge technology,
02:55and in that way,
02:55RTX has really helped us
02:56to put this extra level of polish on our visuals.
