00:00For the latest, we can bring in Benny Engelbrecht, Danish politician and a member of the Prime
00:05Minister's Social Democratic Party. Good morning, Benny. Thank you so much for joining us. Let's
00:09just first together take a look at the actual results of that election. We saw the socialists
00:15coming out with 21.9%, the Green left with 11.6% and the Liberals at 10.1%. So we
00:23see the socialists
00:24there. You're holding on to power just a bit, but this was not the outcome that you wanted.
00:29Yeah, definitely not. Everyone, of course, would like to see a better result than we got. On the
00:35other hand, the three parties in the broad-based coalition, a government that has been ruling for
00:40the past three and a half years, well, all suffered. So I think this is a general concept that you
00:48see
00:48all across, especially in Europe, at these times that the parties that take responsibility in
00:56government also lose a bit of a vote on voting days. And well, in Denmark, we have almost a
01:06Netherlands type of parliament now with 12 parties and only the Social Democratic Party as a broad-based
01:16party with more than 20%. So it will be really difficult for...
01:21And I can see that written all over your face this morning. Do you expect now months of
01:26tough talks? When could a coalition be formed?
01:30Well, the broad-based coalition that has ruled up until now took six weeks to set in place. That
01:36was a record-setting negotiation for the past government. And I expect that we'll see probably
01:44something similar to that, probably not before or after Easter. We'll see actual talks. So it's
01:52a bit difficult. And setting the test that there's a war in the Middle East and Donald Trump still
01:59wants a Greenland. It will... Well, of course, there will... We will need to sort this out quite soon.
02:07But voters, of course, had bread and butter issues on their minds, not really Greenland. Did you
02:11underestimate that? No, I think the domestic discussions are, has been, of course, the
02:20majority of the discussions, but it has been more to do with clean water, for example.
02:27Okay. Benny-Ann Wilbrecht, thank you so much for joining us here this morning, live on Europe
02:32Today here on Euronews. We'll keep a very close eye on the next couple of weeks there.
