00:45Permadeath ensures that when you kick the bucket,
00:48you lose everything and respawn back along the coast.
00:51A bullet to the head isn't the only danger in DayZ,
00:54as the game has a complex set of survival mechanics.
00:57Ignore your hunger or thirst long enough,
01:00and you'll be on your way to an early grave.
01:02But take note,
01:03consume something of questionable sterility,
01:05and you may fall sick.
01:09Chernerus is big,
01:11but finding your way doesn't have to be a shot in the dark.
01:13Use maps,
01:14signs,
01:15tourist trails,
01:16compasses,
01:17and even the stars
01:18to navigate your way around 230 square kilometers
01:22of vast and varied landscapes.
01:24The rule is,
01:26if you can find a town,
01:27you can find the loot.
01:31Built-up areas will have more to scavenge,
01:33but they will also have more infected.
01:35Stay quiet,
01:36stay hidden,
01:37stay clear.
01:39If you have no choice but to fight,
01:41melee combat can offer protection,
01:42but you don't need to rely on your fists,
01:45as any item can be used as an improvised weapon,
01:48some more effective than others.
01:50If you start bleeding,
01:51you will eventually die.
01:53So, wrap it up.
01:56The dynamic weather of DayZ
01:58can take a turn for the worse at any moment,
02:01so sometimes it's best to stay put
02:03and prepare for your travels
02:04until the bad weather passes.
02:06With the fall of civilization,
02:08there is no more light pollution,
02:09and night's enchanterous get dark.
02:11Use various light sources
02:13to keep properly oriented,
02:15or to strategically mark locations.
02:17When interacting with other players,
02:19DayZ's in-game voice chat and gestures system
02:22lets you easily communicate
02:23your friendly intentions.
02:25And in DayZ,
02:26communication goes a long way.
02:29Guns and ammo are rare,
02:30and DayZ's authentic mechanics
02:32mean you'll have to load your weapons manually,
02:34one bullet at a time.
02:36Be sure to keep your weapons in good condition.
02:38Damaged guns might jam,
02:40which can be the difference
02:41between life and death.
02:44Not all wildlife will try to kill you, however.
02:47With various animals roaming the countryside,
02:49you can happily live off the land,
02:51provided you know how to hunt and cook.
02:57Sometimes, it's not possible
02:58to avoid populated areas.
03:00Chanarous is home to numerous hot spots
03:02where you can find the best loot.
03:04But be warned,
03:05you're more likely to come across hostiles
03:07in these parts.
03:09So prepare for a gunfight.

03:20Once you've mastered scavenging and survival,
03:22DayZ opens up
03:23and provides a much richer experience
03:25full of emotions.
03:27Be a lone wolf.
03:28Team up with friends.
03:30Learn the lay of the land.
03:31Fix a car.
03:32Build a base for your community.
03:34Rate the bases of others.
03:36Host your own radio show.
03:38Negotiate.
03:39Set up an ambush.
03:41Take captives.
03:42Restrain and force feed people.
03:44Protect fresh spawns.
03:46Hunt down bandits.
03:48Or just enjoy the many other types
03:50of emergent gameplay DayZ offers.
