00:09So what's really unique about Odyssey
00:12in the Elite Dangerous Universe is that
00:14for the very first time we're going to allow
00:16people to set foot
00:17on the planets and in spaceports
00:20and explore the world
00:21in this new perspective
00:24We've tried to maintain what we felt
00:26was a core part of Elite
00:28which is freedom of choice
00:30And we really embrace that with Odyssey
00:32and have transposed all of those careers
00:34back down onto an on-foot
00:36experience. So when you're
00:38picking your base suit in Odyssey
00:40you're really picking it based
00:42on the career and activities that you
00:44want to undertake. Each of the suits
00:46has its own strengths and weaknesses
00:48So for instance there'll be a suit that
00:50skews towards exploration, a suit that skews
00:52towards combat and also a suit
00:54which you might want to wear if you were to go
00:56scavenging, hunting through wrecks to
00:58find bits of equipment that might be useful to you
01:00Odyssey will provide players with a
01:02clear choice. They're free to take
01:04missions, either from mission boards
01:06or mission givers or
01:08players can go out and explore
01:10So we allow the player to disembark at
01:12outposts, planet ports, spaceports
01:14so all of these are great places to find
01:16work and undertake missions but also now
01:18you can go to our new settlements which are
01:20kind of more dust bowl wild west
01:23towns that you'd found on the edges of
01:25civilisation. When you find these
01:27settlements I think you'll want to
01:29travel into them and see what the lay of
01:31the land is, see what options and
01:33opportunities they offer
01:34and decide which way you're going to
01:37play. With Odyssey for the first time
01:38we'll have fully modelled and fully
01:41animated characters appearing in game
01:43and they will feel part of the
01:45universe and extend the narrative
01:47that's there. They will be moving
01:49through these spaces, you'll be able to
01:50to interact with them, some of them
01:52will speak to you, so we've had to work
01:54on getting those performances right
01:56It's a whole new way of exploring the game
01:58you'll hear the settlement
02:00how alive it is, you'll hear
02:02announcers, you go into buildings
02:04and the soundscape changes
02:06it's the very first time that you're
02:08experiencing the sound of Elite Dangerous
02:10not inside a ship or inside
02:12a little vehicle but inside
02:14a body. Meeting
02:16people who you can relate to
02:18in places is the way you can feel
02:21grounded in this quite fantastical
02:23universe and there's going to be a
02:24lot of players transferring from
02:26the main game who have never
02:28experienced this before but will
02:29understand how it feels to be in
02:31that universe. All of the NPCs that
02:34you encounter in Odyssey are all
02:36generated as part of the background
02:38sim. So if I go to a port or a
02:41settlement, the NPCs that I'm going
02:43to find there will be affiliated with
02:45the faction that owns that settlement
02:47so we're driving some personality
02:49into our NPCs via the background
02:52sim connection and I think that's
02:54an amazing addition. One of our new
02:56features and new characters works
02:58for a corporation called Apex
03:00Interstellar. Players will be able
03:01to book journeys to and from ports
03:04within jump range. This gives a way
03:06for those players to actually move
03:08around the galaxy for a relatively
03:10cheap fee and experience gameplay
03:13away from the ports themselves. So
03:16within the on-foot gameplay the
03:18the primary way of earning credits is
03:20to actually undertake missions and
03:22obviously complete them successfully
03:24but you can also do some slightly
03:26more nefarious acts. Maybe you
03:28will go to settlements and steal items
03:30and sell them onto the black market
03:32or you could become an explorer and
03:35collect samples from our new organic
03:37life. With Odyssey we've worked
03:39really hard to maintain player agency. We
03:43want players to have the choice about
03:44how they play Elite. If players want
03:47to continue in their ship gameplay
03:49absolutely. If they want to engage
03:51in on-foot gameplay perfect. If
03:53they want to do both even better. And
03:55that really has always been at the
03:57heart of Elite. It's not the game
03:59we're telling you how to play it. It's
04:00the game that you are creating your
04:02own story in. We're really looking
04:03forward to seeing how our players
04:05take that story forward and how they
04:07develop it.
