00:04Sì, sono Davin Blanchet, da Propaganda Games, qui per parlare di Turok.
00:17Desserti un'altra storia di Turok.
00:20Sì, so you play the role of Joseph Turok, and he's after his former mentor Roland Cain,
00:29and he's sort of sent on this mission with another band of gentlemen called Whiskey Company.
00:35And they find Cain on this lost planet, and on their way down they get shot down by Cain and
00:42get stuck on this planet,
00:44and that's where the story sort of begins.
00:45You know, they find out everything about the planet, you know, the planet isn't like back home,
00:50it's got some interesting creatures and dinosaurs, and the sort of fun begins from there.
00:57I think that one of the most interesting features of the game is the interaction between Turok and the enemies,
01:04the enemies and the dinosaurs, so tell us something more about the use of weapons to move.
01:10Oh, sure, sure. So, you know, what we wanted to do with Turok was to involve the creatures and involve
01:18the humans in interesting ways.
01:20And so we have weapons that sort of mix and match open gameplay and sort of what you'd call sandbox
01:25gameplay.
01:26So, you know, in one case we have a device that allows you to lure creatures wherever you want.
01:32So think of it sort of like as a cat chasing a laser plane, right?
01:37So I can manipulate them to attack or go somewhere where I want.
01:41So I can get them to go over to a group of enemies, human enemies, and get them.
01:45Once he's there, his AI, his dynamic AI kicks in and he attacks anything in his sight, basically.
01:51Basically dinosaurs have this one goal, and that is eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat.
01:55So whoever is in front of them or beside them or near them, that's the closest meal.
02:02So that makes it really simple from sort of the user standpoint and lets you manipulate them in really easy
02:09ways.
02:10Another great way that we do it is you can set up minefields.
02:13We have this weapon called a sticky bomb gun.
02:16And basically you can lay down a minefield or you can set a charge that you can detonate at any
02:23point.
02:23So a great one that I like to do is to put it on a dinosaur, so put a bomb
02:29on a dinosaur,
02:30and then send them over to a group of enemies and blow everybody up sky high.
02:34So that sort of stuff is what we're looking for and what we want the user to sort of really
02:39play with
02:40and really experiment on their own, you know, come up with their own scenarios.
02:44I'm sure we've missed a whole bunch and just mix and match those weapons as we want.
02:48So we have seen and played in the forest, but can you make us some example of other environments in
02:57the game?
02:58So yeah, there's a number of environments in the game. I mean, it's primarily a jungle outdoor game.
03:02But we do have, of course, in that jungle we have caves. We have very sort of big open vista
03:10areas.
03:12And that's sort of the gameplay that we want. We want people to sort of explore those zones
03:18so that they can approach the different combat zones the way they want.
03:22As well you have interiors, you have caves. I won't give it away too much, but there is like a
03:30pretty big boss battle
03:33within some of those underground areas, as well as unique creatures for those specific areas.
03:41And then on the other side you've got the human enemies. So you've got their interiors,
03:46and they come in different forms of ones that might have been run down, ones that dinosaurs have overtaken,
03:52and ones that are completely up and running. And so as you travel through the game you'll come across these
03:57things.
03:57And again, we try to mix and match, you know, put humans outside, put dinosaurs inside, put them both together
04:03and just really go from there.
04:06Can we expect out to play the single player campaigning in any cooperative mode?
04:12In cooperative mode? No. What we've done for co-op is put it online.
04:19So what we wanted to do was get more people into co-op.
04:24And we were sort of, you know, limited in how many people could play through a single player experience.
04:29So we put it online. You can play it for four people. We have three co-op maps. They're fairly
04:35long.
04:37They would essentially be, I guess, a couple levels in length. So, you know, fairly long period of time for
04:46each one.
04:47And they're very difficult. So you really need to use a lot of teamwork. You really need to communicate very
04:52well.
04:52And you need to use strategy to get through and finish the level.
04:55And by the way, there are many competitive modes. Multiplayer competitive modes.
05:02Yep. We have team deathmatch. We have deathmatch. We have assault capture the flag. We have war games, which is
05:09sort of a goal-driven multiplayer mode.
05:13And we have assault capture the flag.
05:16Can we expect to use both the humans and the dinosaurs or just the humans?
05:20You can't play as the humans. Or, sorry, as the dinosaurs.
05:24We did the same thing in multiplayer that we did in single player.
05:28So we wanted the dinosaurs to be part of the multiplayer world.
05:33And they sort of act as that neutral agent that, you know, will basically attack anything again.
05:38So it's great in multiplayer because you can use them to swing the momentum back and forth.
05:43So especially if you've got a luring device, you can get them to attack other people.
05:47Or just when you think you've killed or about to kill somebody, boom, a dinosaur comes in and now he's
05:52mawing down on you.
05:53And, yeah, it really makes our multiplayer special in that sense because it has the dinosaurs in it.
06:01And it really is connected to the single player.
06:04To work, you use Unreal Engine 3.
06:08Have you changed some features and or stuff from the original Unreal Engine?
06:13Yeah, it's a heavily modified Unreal 3 engine.
06:21We basically put in our own weapon system.
06:25Unreal, at the time, didn't support dual wield, for instance.
06:28So we added the code to have dual wield.
06:30It was something that was important to argue.
06:33You know, it uses physics, ragdoll, all that sort of thing.
06:35If you've noticed in our game, for instance, one of the key things that I love is that you're able
06:41to knock somebody down and then they can get back up.
06:44A lot of games just haven't done that yet.
06:48The other thing that we've done is modified the multiplayer.
06:52So what our multiplayer needs were, we had to add in a whole section for the Unreal system at that
06:59point.
06:59Is there anything else you want to add about the game?
07:03It comes out February 2005.
07:06Sorry, let me say that again.
07:08February 2005.
07:08It comes out February 5th, 2008.
07:13Really looking forward to it being released and I'm really looking forward to sharing it with everybody else.
07:17I hope to see you online and guarantee I'm probably going to kill you soon.
07:22Thank you.
07:23Thank you.
07:24You're welcome.
