00:16in the game. Your economy
00:17is centred around 5 raw resources
00:20food, wood,
00:22stone, bronze, and gold.
00:24To succeed in your campaign
00:26you will have to manage and balance
00:28all 5 resources.
00:30There are 3 main ways to
00:32gain resources. The most
00:34reliable is through occupying
00:36minor settlements. Each
00:38settlement specialises in a certain
00:40resource. You can quickly identify
00:42what a settlement specialises in
00:44by this icon. Within
00:46these settlements you will see the specialised
00:48resource buildings, where you will
00:50find multiple ways and plenty of
00:52opportunities to boost your productivity
00:54which will be vital to keep
00:56your population growing.
00:58The second is trade.
01:00When you start the game you'll notice
01:01you won't always have every resource
01:04to hand. It's not always smart
01:06to go to war and attack a friendly
01:08neighbour, or stretch yourself too thin
01:10by sailing half way across the map
01:12just because you want a stone settlement.
01:15Instead you want to trade
01:17for the resources you're lacking.
01:19Trade is a big topic
01:20and one we'll cover in a later video.
01:22And lastly, winning battles.
01:25This will give you
01:27a single injection of resources.
01:29Depending on who you're fighting
01:30will determine how large the payout.
01:33This isn't a reliable way
01:35of obtaining resources,
01:36so see this as a bonus.
01:42Let's quickly touch on the different types of resources
01:45and what they do.
01:47Food is your most basic resource.
01:49It's vital to growing your population
01:51and recruiting men to your armour.
01:55Wood is mainly used to build structures.
01:57A good wood supply early gain
01:59is essential.
02:01Stone is used to build more
02:03advanced buildings which will unlock
02:05powerful troops and open up different
02:07avenues of play with temples
02:09and other unique buildings.
02:11Bronze will become the cornerstone
02:13of any powerful nation.
02:14Bronze is required for the upkeep of elite troops.
02:17If you want to dominate
02:19on and off the battlefield,
02:21bronze is a must.
02:23And lastly, gold.
02:25Gold is a rarity on the map
02:26and can be used as a powerful bartering tool.
02:29It will also be needed
02:30to upgrade specific buildings
02:32and recruit special units unique to each hero.
02:35Unlike the other resources,
02:37it is not infinite
02:38and it will completely run out.
02:41In the province overview,
02:42you can see how much gold is left
02:44in that settlement.
02:46Constructing better buildings
02:47and training stronger troops
02:48will require multiple resources.
02:50You can see in the top left
02:52your total income of resources.
02:54Your top number is your gross income
02:56and the bottom number is what you'll get per turn.
02:59Hovering over any resource
03:00will give you a breakdown
03:01of what it's being used for.
03:04When it comes to increasing your yield,
03:06upgrading your settlements is key.
03:08Make sure you read what each upgrade does
03:11before committing valuable resources to it.
03:14Some upgrades will negatively affect
03:16your population happiness
03:17or your population growth.
03:19Remember you can always destroy a building
03:21and replace it with another one
03:22but you won't get those resources back.
03:25One last thing to keep an eye on
03:26is your influence over your region.

03:30Resource buildings thrive in high influence provinces
03:33and can potentially double their production.
03:36The resource system is the backbone of the game.
03:40The balance of military growth versus urban growth
03:43is a constant challenge.
