00:00So here I am at the Peterson Space Base in Colorado.
00:04That's because I'm about to go give up all my devices, including the phone,
00:08so I have to talk to you from here because I'm here to visit NORAD.
00:13The North American Aerospace Defense Command is a binational U.S. and Canadian military command
00:19that exists to detect any threat to the continent, missiles, aircraft, balloons, anything,
00:26and then to scramble jets to neutralize it.
00:28Lately, the intimate friendship between these two countries has been strained.
00:33Trump's been threatening to make Canada the 51st state.
00:36Canadians are, understandably, somewhere between livid and hurt.
00:41Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, recently gave a big speech
00:44to rally the world's middle powers against bullies such as the United States.
00:50He's also trying to shift Canada's military spending away from American weapons.
00:55So now I'm at Cheyenne Mountain, the other facility of NORAD.
01:00It used to be its headquarters.
01:02It was built during the Cold War to withstand a nuclear blast.
01:05I kept asking the Americans and the Canadians, so how is it?
01:09After the Mark Carney speech, to a man from the very top, very top that I talked to,
01:14to the rank and file, they are professional military.
01:19They say it has not affected any part of their cooperation.
01:24Things are between Canada and the U.S. are as they ever were.
01:28On the way out of his office, Commander Greg Guillo showed me this photo.
01:33The bogey is Chinese and is near Alaska.
01:35The jets intercepting the bogey are Canadian and American, together.
01:40It's a snapshot of the increasing brazenness of the Chinese and Russians in the Arctic.
01:46And also a Top Gun-esque representation of the world's tightest military alliance.
01:52Everybody in or near the White House, including POTUS,
01:56should visit the men and women in Colorado Springs,
01:59whose safeguard what the U.S. and Canada both hold dear.
02:03Relationships based on mutual trust are the rarest and most valuable of all.
02:08It would be a shame if anybody, Trump or anybody, ever jeopardized this relationship.
