00:33So all the stuff that we're shooting on Performance Capture is all the performance in Squadron 42
00:38So the dramatic scenes, people's dialogue
00:42And so we capture their emotions and what they're saying and what's happening on their face
00:47To map it all onto their digital alter egos inside the world of Squadron 42
00:53And we'll be doing that here in the Imaginarium stage at E-Link Studios for the next three months
01:00Mi nome è Ian Duncan e I'm playing the player.
01:03Quindi tutto il mio punto di vista e tutte le interazioni che ogni character ha,
01:07è con il mio character.
01:10È molto più grande e diversa, quindi ho guardato il progetto.
01:13I'm getting my markers on my head and my body.
01:15No, I'm getting markers on my body and a camera on my head.
01:18We wear the cameras and the headgear so that it captures the performance.
01:23Regular every day at work.
01:25We've got this helmet on our heads that actually films every little close-up.
01:29I mean, you can't really get much closer than this.
01:31It's going to pick up every single feature of ours.
01:34All those other many, many cameras and gizmos capture the physicality.
01:40I don't know, 50, 60 or so cameras. I'm just picking up a number there.
01:43I did mo-cap last time five years ago and it's already evolved.
01:46I think I look pretty sexy and that's why I'm here.
01:49Oh, thanks. Scan down. Just to check. That's the money shot.
01:53Because everyone looks very odd.
01:55Wearing, like, you know, all-in-one very suits that don't leave much to the imagination.
02:01You feel very self-conscious, but the trick is obviously to lose that self-consciousness
02:06and just kind of be yourself within the space and play the character within the space.
02:10A bit like being in a theatre workshop.
02:12It's all in your mind.
02:13Oh, to the famous Squadron 42.
02:16Yeah, it's like make-believe.
02:17Yeah, it's like being five again.
02:19Yeah, it's like being five again.
02:21Whoa!
02:22Mental, physical training's been pretty intense.
02:25I sat and had a cup of tea this morning and then came here.
02:31So you have to go through a series of 90-plus expressions, ranging from frowning, smiling,
02:38looking up, looking down, left, right.
02:40And the combination of all those things mean that they can then control the way that you
02:44look digitally.
02:46First time you do it, it can feel very weird.
02:48It's quite a test.
02:49I love it.
02:49I feel very at home here.
02:51From what I gather, Chris is a bit of the sort of George Lucas of this stuff.
02:58Really putting you in the game in a way that we don't have right now.
03:02Where you have emotional connections with characters.
03:06The old days when I did Wing Commander, I felt like we sort of advanced sort of cinematic
03:11storytelling in games back then.
03:13And I think, you know, our cast is something that you would even have, you would have in
03:16a movie definitely in a way that you don't normally see in games, which is pretty cool.
03:20Cal!
03:21He's kind of the charming, famous one.
03:25What took you guys so long?
03:26You almost missed all the fun.
03:27I want you to hear this.
03:29Sit down.
03:29We had Liam Cunningham this morning, who's playing Captain White.
03:39I think Bishop's going to be a great character.
03:42Gary's awesome to work with, and, you know, he's bringing a lot of nuances to it.
03:46Some of you may ask him why undertake such a thing.
03:49I can tell you in one word.
03:53Victory!
03:56Can you better be on your way?
03:58A little bit starstruck.
04:00It's like an extra level of nerdy geek out.
04:03EVA back to your ship.
04:05Luke Skywalker.
04:09Yeah, we were going through a list of actresses that we thought would be believable as Gary's
04:14daughter.
04:14Gillian was my top choice.
04:16We'll handle it exactly the way you did on The X-Files.
04:19She's great.
04:19She's tough.
04:20She's awesome.
04:21She definitely holds her out.
04:23We got Harry Tredaway, who's amazing.
04:27I think we're getting drunk before we even start work, so it's a good day at work.
04:31Oh, this is Space Whiskey.
04:33It's 5,000-year-old.
04:34Yeah, single rolls.
04:37It's just been a really joyous experience.
04:39Yeah, I mean, working with all the A-listers was just amazing.
04:45The fact that I got to be in every single scene was a real, real honor.
04:49Cast and Chris have done an unbelievably great job.
04:52It's going to kick other games in the ass.
04:54The message of fans would be that thank you for enabling us to do something at this level.
04:59What we shot here was way, way, way, way beyond what initially I thought I would be able
05:04to do.
05:04So I know it's hard to wait, but trust me, it will be something that I think you'll be
05:10glad that you supported.
05:11Thank you so much, guys.
05:12It's been a pleasure.
05:14I'm pretty excited to see it sort of come alive.
05:16It'll be a cracker.
05:17Yeah.
05:20– And I'll be back home again.
05:21Right.
05:21Oh my God.
05:23Don't kill me.
