00:06conan conchord is kind of a new genre
00:07it's a survival rts game
00:10it's not a traditional
00:12real-time strategy game
00:13you have a lot of spinning plates
00:15there is a lot to worry about
00:17it's not just build an army, build a base
00:20go and attack the other guy
00:21you're defending up against waves of enemy attackers
00:24and the waves get progressively more difficult
00:26you know you're conan
00:27you're in front of the citadel that you're supposed to defend
00:29they get more challenging they get more deadly
00:32there's this clock that's ticking and the drum beats are going in the background
00:35they're getting gradually louder you know something nasty is going to happen
00:40playing by yourself or with a friend you're going to try and survive through so many waves
00:44to see how long you can remain unconquered
00:53at petroglyph we've kind of continued along with our strategy game dna and rts kind of
00:59I mean, pretty much anything fantasy and sci-fi is going to get people around here interested,
01:04but Conan's one of the top ones up there.
01:06And being able to make the first strategy-based Conan game, that was huge to us.
01:12With Conan Unconquered, you're not really fighting against a base,
01:15you're fighting against the elements and overwhelming odds.
01:19So depending on how you set up the game and the customization,
01:24you'll be pitted against, you know, a finite number of ways
01:27or even an infinite amount of waves.
01:29We've built in a lot more simulation than we ever have in any other game.
01:33You're managing a lot more resources, so there's a lot of different choices to make
01:37on which resources you actually want to go out and gather and harvest
01:42to determine, like, what type of things you want to build.
01:46The worlds are randomly generated as well, so it's not the same map that you play every time,
01:52it's a new experience every time.
01:55You really have to layer in a lot of the strategy and challenge elements.
01:59With Conan Unconquered, that's kind of what we're trying to do
02:02with the multiple enemy types that have different behaviors you have to deal with,
02:07with environmental effects such as disease and sandstorms and fire.
02:12All of those things are the challenges.
02:14The strategy comes in, you know, what buildings you build,
02:17how you spend your resources, what units you're using to combat the challenges.
02:21The other nice thing about Conan Unconquered is that you can not only play solo play,
02:25you can play cooperatively as well with a friend or a stranger.
02:29You can matchmake and find a stranger to play with.
02:31The two players can play together and play against even worse waves than the solo version.
02:38They are much more powerful, they'll come from multiple directions at once very early.
02:43So it'll take both of you working together to survive.
02:47One of the most exciting things that players are going to experience is the multiplayer aspect of Conan Unconquered.
02:52We thought that was a great opportunity to give fans kind of a different way to play a survival RTS
02:58game.
02:58It's just fun to kind of share the challenge.
03:00It is so much fun to share that victory, you know, with somebody.
03:03And it's also nice too because one person can manage one thing while somebody else manages something else.
03:07I think that the main impetus for making this game was our love for other experiments that are going on
03:15in the RTS genre right now.
03:17I am a big fan of Frostpunk.
03:19We all fell in love with Air Billions.
03:21We want to make a game that has some of the elements that this has because it's really fun to,
03:27you know, like build and survive.
03:29These are great games and they're great examples of a survival strategic game that we thought,
03:38man, that's really good. What else could we do with that?
03:41Taking their Billions meets Stronghold and then putting it in that Black Colossus storyline from Robert Howard,
03:48you know, that's well known from, you know, the old Conan comic books and books.
03:52Yeah, it's very savage and brutal, just like I think Conan would like.
03:55Oh, yeah.
03:56Conan, what is best in life? To see your enemies driven before you and to play this strategy game.
04:03That's right.
