01:45host
01:46to the Radio 6 Music Festival first tonight though our one big thank you well it's been given a Red
01:52Nose
01:52Day twist little twist yes we've teamed up with Comic Relief and the Nosey Awards now each year they hand
01:58out a number of awards to celebrate the UK's most dedicated fundraisers who rally their communities to
02:03really go the extra mile and one very special accolade is called the Lenny Award which is aptly named after
02:10Mr Red Nose Day himself Sir Lenny Henry and this year it's going to a group of runners who this
02:16week
02:16have really gone the extra mile athlete Billy Munger helped to surprise them in 2021 and 2025 I pushed
02:24myself to my absolute limit and took on an Ironman challenge for Comic Relief the race itself was one
02:30of the hardest things I've ever done and took months and months to prepare for I know what this group
02:38of
02:38runners in Hamilton just outside of Glasgow are about to face while most of the town is still asleep here
02:44at Braveheart's gym they are gearing up for training ahead of their Comic Relief challenge an epic
02:49ultra marathon every day for 10 days and if they make it what they don't know is I'm going to
02:56be handing
02:56them this very special Lenny Award Johnny Cleland came up with the idea for the challenge it was
03:03inspired by Jamie Lyons ultra marathon challenge from last year the men and women of Braveheart Boxing
03:10Gym will run 40 miles a day covering the 400 miles from BBC Glasgow to Broadcasting House in London all
03:18to raise money for Comic Relief this is going to be tough as the most any of them has ever
03:24run before
03:24is a single day ultra marathon but I've not done any consecutive ultra marathon so this will be a
03:31complete game changer for me 10 days in a row is mega gym owner Stephen is leading the team's gruelling
03:39last training session once we hit the hills try and just slow it right down so we don't try and
03:44do
03:44like a slight jog training for a challenge like this means two to three hour runs multiple times a week
03:51and fitting that around work and family can be almost as tough as the running itself
03:56I didn't quite know at the time this grand scale about how massive it was because it's a lot of
04:01work
04:01that everybody's fit in for Johnny the early starts and long runs are about more than just training
04:08running saved my life a number of years ago after a couple of local runs noticed things were wrong and
04:14went to the doctors and it turned out to be bladder cancer I went through 19 hours of surgery for
04:21a
04:21radical cystectomy which meant they removed my bladder created a new bladder and it's changed my
04:27life I need to self catheterize every four hours so it's had a massive impact it affected me and then
04:33there was almost a self-realization of I'm going to challenge myself every single day to see what I'm
04:38capable of we're so proud of him but he loves a challenge we'll all be at london waiting on him
04:43finishing we'll all be cheering him on yep we can push ourselves to the limits and create money for
04:48charity everyone should challenge themselves for a good cause
04:55and challenge themselves they have
05:00what a start to my morning after 10 intense days they've had injuries along the way but somehow
05:09they are still going we're on the last 5k to get us back to the bbc i'm here at broadcasting
05:18house
05:18where we're hoping the guys and girls were across that finish line any minute now
05:36honestly what you guys have taken on is unbelievable considering what you've done you're smiling are you
05:43mad the conditions were against us it was just horrible but then the last few days of sunshine
05:49been amazing and in recognition of this great achievement it's time to give them their award
05:55it's my absolute honor to give you the lenny award going above and beyond for coming relief
06:04got a special message from the man who inspired you guys to be here in the first place
06:10wow what an insane thing you guys have done i don't think anyone would attempt that so well deserving
06:17for the lenny award oh that is incredible what a feat that is a massive congratulations
06:27on their lenny award the team right get this they'd set themselves the target of raising 60 000
06:33pounds they've already gone past it so far they have raised 63 000 pounds
06:38very good uh time now though to introduce our guests it's nick grimshaw and nicola coughlin
06:50nick we were watching that no stranger you are to a red nose day challenge yes i mean needless to
06:55say
06:55your 12 hour cycle do you remember that one back in 2014 yeah that was out there
06:59i was just saying to nicola i was like that that sounds rubbish now because they level up don't
07:05they every year i'm like no 2020 2020 you cross the namib desert yeah that i mean i mean this
07:10looks
07:10hard yeah look at me then look at that nickel yes hardcore you fancy it fancy another one absolutely
07:16it's horrible because sometimes i watch these things and i'm like is it that hard it's worse yeah
07:21they're definitely worse yeah i remember it being that bad and i had like a wobble and i remember like
07:26looking out the window of this van while i was like getting composure and all the people from
07:30comic relief are like smoking and like freaking out i was like oh it's not good so yeah it's it's
07:36hardcore yeah so but i mean it was like five days i can't believe greg's got to do eight i
07:40can't
07:41eight days that's long for a holiday it has been incredible uh well look we're going to be
07:46chatting to nick about something a bit more in his comfort zone very soon the radio 6 music festival
07:50yes but first we're heading to the magic faraway tree with nicola now the film has an amazing
07:55cast including selenny henry it's about three children who move to the countryside and discover
08:00a tree which transports them to fantastical worlds some luck dear grandma we've moved to the countryside
08:10dad's crazy plan is infecting the whole family don't go in that wood up top
08:15hello mommy what is this place the magic faraway tree it's amazing
08:26there is no way i'm going down that
08:34pretty spectacular i'm sure you'll agree
08:40it's such a treat it's lovely lovely to watch and if people don't know the story is obviously
08:44based on the enid blighton books yeah um tell us about your character the fairy called silky then
08:50so enid blighton was so wildly prolific that she often didn't remember the things that she used to
08:55write so in the first book silky is an elf and then in the future book she's a fairy or
09:01it's the other
09:02way around so what they've done is they've made me a human size fairy with elf ears and at one
09:07point
09:07you see in the trailer i get wished down to a tiny fairy it's a combo it's a combo it's
09:11a combo she has
09:12a bit of an identity crisis at one point where she wishes to be more like a real fairy um
09:16but it's
09:16it was just such a brilliant script i had no idea who was attached when i auditioned and i made
09:21an audition tape in sydney australia in a hotel room on my own and sort of thought maybe this is
09:27terrible and then spoke to the director and did something really cheesy meant i really want this part
09:31and then i thought oh is that really desperate but thank god he didn't think so and gave me the
09:34part but i didn't know the cast who were attached and then finding out clara foy andrew garvin
09:39rebecca ferguson as you said lenny henry michael palin incredible yeah really really good honestly
09:45you love it and they've got all these different worlds they go up the stairs and the worlds are
09:49different these fantastical worlds but amazingly not all cgi and green screen very little actually like
09:55what you see some of the skies in the background but i think that's what's lovely about it is it
09:59feels
09:59really homemade and handmade so one of the sets it was a place called the land of goodies where
10:05everything's sort of made of sweets this is it here and that's michael dapper he was amazing he was
10:09sort of the the policeman there but all of the sweets were real sweets so you know they sort of
10:13warmed at the beginning of the day you know you can eat this and this and this but you go
10:17sort of
10:17mad you become a child again and you are stuffing your face with these penny sweets and then going why
10:22do i feel ill and they go well there's a reason you've had a sofa of like sweets pretty much
10:26you can't sort of stop and billy gadsen who's the little girl in the clip she was
10:30by far the best behaved of all of us yeah yeah it was great and you mentioned amazing cast
10:36jennifer saunders as well we should know um but michael palin is the one for you yeah yes i mean
10:43you
10:43loved being in the same film as him didn't he's a big hero it's a very strange thing so i
10:48when i decided
10:49i was going to go to drama school i was reading the monty python autobiography in a cafe in malta
10:53right so i get
10:55cast in this movie find out michael palin is in it we stayed in a hotel in malta to film
11:00the final
11:00two weeks the hotel was right across from the cafe where i read that book no it's meant to be
11:06the cafe has now closed but it was literally right across the street it was spooky oh yes but i'm
11:12big
11:12big fan huge fan of michael palin even more so having now met him and worked with me he's pretty
11:18perfect it's a brilliant film honestly congratulations so much i really love it i think it's something very
11:23very special and the three kids who lead it are absolutely phenomenal they're such stars oh yeah
11:29and also there's a new series of big moods coming there is yes and this was the most successful
11:34launch of a comedy on channel four after dairy girls and look we've got nicola in both i mean
11:39that's quite something isn't it yeah let's just tell that to all the casting directors keep hiring me
11:43guys come on come on come on come on it's got to mean something yeah it's i mean that's a
11:47really
11:47special thing and it's a very different show to dairy girls is a lot darker uh deals with a lot
11:52tougher subject matter but it's just amazing that people talk to both yeah i'm really excited for
11:57that to come out it's all down to you well i'll take it yeah yeah uh the magic faraway tree
12:04is out
12:04in cinemas next friday now then coming up nick will be telling us how he's helping bring big name
12:09musicians to grassroots venues for his bbc radio 6 music festival yeah but it's been a particularly busy
12:15week for his mates over at radio one thanks to one man and a tandem bike greg james is seven
12:20days
12:21into his comic relief challenge traveling 1 000 kilometers from weymouth to edinburgh today was
12:26the longest day covering an epic 150k oh my goodness jennifer rioch is standing by in gala shields where
12:33hopefully greg is about to join her at the end of his penultimate day jen any sign of him yet
12:41yes i think he is just moments away but the people of gala shields have come out and forced to
12:46celebrate the head coming in end of day seven the atmosphere is incredible but they are not the only
12:53ones that have come to support greg we've got friends and family his lovely wife are going to
12:57reunite with them at the finish line and of course the brilliant jack saunders from radio one jack you
13:03know greg really really well he's been putting our brave face on how do you think he's actually
13:08feeling i think when greg feels vulnerable us at radio one the guys who work with him but also the
13:13whole country want to get behind him he's been there for us in like so many different scenarios you
13:19know and i think up and down the country he just feels like this nucleus for us he's the center
13:23force
13:24of kind of our days effectively and that force has been powering himself through miles on the bike i think
13:30he is just about to come in you must be quite proud as a team super proud you know i
13:35i think
13:35for greg he's always the one that kind of does the the heavy hitting the kind of encouraging the
13:40being there for people and see him in such a vulnerable state really feels like we need to
13:44rally around him that's why you've got all the people here in gala shields and up and down the
13:47country coming out in full force for him he's he's a wonderful wonderful man yeah he really is he's
13:52got a police escort coming into gala shields right now i think uh from the cheers he's about to make
13:59up 150 kilometers today from serious health as well and one more to go tomorrow and you're really
14:05going to get an idea of just how ready he is for that and here he is coming in an
14:11emotional reunion
14:13with this lovely wife hi go and say hi go and say hi 150 kilometers this man has cycled a
14:21beautiful
14:21reunion with his wife bella and i'm going to have to pry him away for a quick chat greg such
14:27a beautiful
14:28moment i'm so sorry to smile it but you're live on the one show hello the one show how do
14:34you feel
14:35i feel complete i feel completely insane hello gala shields
14:41it must feel lovely to see the amount of people come out and supporting you all the way around like
14:46it's incredible the the whole day has been so strange so amazing i'm completely uh depleted i'm so
14:56nearly nearly nearly nearly nearly nearly broken but crucially not broken this thing nearly got me
15:01this morning when i just started the whole thing in floods of tears and i i haven't seen bella in
15:06ages come here get the one show come on in come on in i um i i feel so uh
15:14overwhelmed with the the
15:16number the the amount of people coming out and seeing i mean look at this i know it's not i
15:21mean you
15:21said never again greg and here we are at the end of day seven on this challenge are you glad
15:25that never
15:25became yeah okay yeah i will i'll say at the end of tomorrow i'm saying that i'm pleased that we
15:32we did this challenge and that it sort of captured people's imagination in the way that it has done
15:37and the amount of money raises well unbelievable you mentioned money i have got a total for you
15:43are you ready for this are you ready for the total i am we have raised two million five hundred
15:51and ten
15:51thousand two hundred and forty three pounds

16:05more
16:05day to go money filled with the finish line tomorrow you will be amazing let's see if we can keep
16:10pushing
16:10that total up please everyone donate 10 20 30 or 40 to seven double oh double one you're doing
16:15amazing things and currently if you do amazing things with your money thank you well done thank you guys
16:23not even out of breath no he got off that bike so cool he's like oh one shot
16:30fantastic brilliant total a good luck to greg for tomorrow and thanks to jennifer and all being well
16:35you'll be able to follow the final leg of greg's cycle to the finish line in murrayfield stadium
16:40tomorrow on the radio and breakfast show and on morning life oh that was really emotional and if
16:44you would like to support greg's efforts come on uh donate to comic relief and you can do so you
16:50can
16:50donate any amount online at bbc.co.uk forward slash greg and the teas and teas are all on the
16:55website as
16:56well and that's all uh where you can find out you can also find out there that you can apply
17:01for free
17:01tickets to cheer him on in person at murrayfield tomorrow morning he's so popular you've got
17:05of tickets yes you do turn up exactly that says it all uh nick you've been keeping in touch with
17:11greg all week yeah because normally i see him we're all on the same floor yeah so like me at
17:15six and
17:16scott at two and and nadia at one extra and greg at radio on of course so we all see
17:20each other in
17:21the morning so obviously he's not been there because he's been doing a thousand kilometers and i keep
17:26waking up like you know you wake up early for like morning radio you're tired and i keep waking up
17:29being like i cannot believe it's still going on like eight days it's so hardcore i was just saying
17:35that a hundred 150 kilometers full stop would i'd be like yeah enough let's donate asking for a favor
17:41be like why are you writing me back yeah come on but no i've been texting in the morning and
17:46seeing how
17:46he is and he's yeah he keeps sending like really uh intense crazy selfies being like i feel fantastic
17:53but he's doing incredible he's unbelievable it's hardcore it really is amazing well very soon we'll
18:00be heading live to rehearsals at the comic relief studios where davina mccall will be giving us a
18:04preview of what's in store tomorrow night including a very special guest star yeah and a big highlight
18:10is the brilliant amanda land sketch featuring a whole gaggle of amandas including amanda holden so
18:17who better to take us behind the scenes following the success of the bbc comedy show motherland
18:24spin-off series amanda land follows the story of amanda post her divorce she has downsized and moved
18:32to south harlesden or as she calls it soha i'm done with w4 i'm all about soha oh it's just
18:40wacky
18:40i just love all the characters and it's brilliant i do like her her mom as well john alumney always
18:46cracks me
18:47now the team behind the hit sitcom has joined up with comic relief for a one-off sketch okay let's
18:53go for a take and action as a fellow amanda i am delighted to have a part in the comedy
18:59sketch
18:59and today we are all on set ready to film come with me star of amanda land is lucy punch
19:06we should
19:07talk a little bit about this amanda land sketch for comic relief i laughed out loud when i read it
19:11what did you think i loved it it is classic amanda land it's very funny and silly but also
19:18real life situations we see amanda who thinks she's been invited to a radio show and of course
19:26it ends up she hasn't of course the wrong amanda has been invited not just yes many amandas have been
19:34invited to the show it's amanda's land comic relief is obviously a massive staple yes do you have any
19:41memories of watching it when you're a bit younger so many i remember french and saunders sketches
19:47and snogging every time that was so classic why don't we get to do yeah yeah obviously happily
19:54married woman whilst it's called amanda land it wouldn't be the same without her much loved and
19:59ever-suffering friend anne give me the child oh yeah sure of course played by philippa dunn everybody
20:06loves anne tell us a little bit about how anne is involved in today's comic relief sketch okay so amanda
20:12is coming to the bbc to be on the radio and uh she needs and by her side to do
20:17you know a bit of
20:18fetching and carrying as per usual and she just actually has a day that's better than she had bargained for
20:26so without giving too much away i thought i'd introduce you to some of my co-styles
20:32i'm amanda byron well i'm amanda barry and i can't tell you what you're doing because we're
20:39spoiling it but it will be extremely good i'm amanda collier my name is amanda lamb not amanda land
20:47and i'm having the most surreal day every time someone says amanda i go there's there's lots of us
20:54here oh my gosh so i can see them filming in there right now so i've got to be a
21:00little bit
21:00quiet which is very hard for me and my love i can't wait for you all to see it
21:07also playing herself is sarah cox when i saw the script i thought it was brilliant i mean it's not
21:12much of a stretch i've got to play a radio dj uh but yeah i mean i was i was
21:16really excited i mean my
21:18husband's never impressed by any jobs that i do but even he was excited about me starring in amanda
21:25land kind of for comic relief but you'll have to tune into comic relief to find out if the interview
21:31turns out how amanda hopes oh my goodness well this has been such a fun day the sketch is shaping
21:38up
21:38brilliantly and i think you are all gonna love it oh i honestly can't wait cannot wait for that
21:46one such a good idea so good uh now there is just under 24 hours to go before tomorrow night's
21:52big
21:53comic relief show so let's chat to presenter davina mccall who is live in salford uh davina hello how's
22:01everything going oh well just before i start just want to say a massive heartfelt brilliant well done
22:08to greg for finishing his penultimate day i cannot wait to welcome him to this stage tomorrow
22:14preparations have been in full swing studio screens have been given a refresh check them out um today me
22:20nick mohammed joel domett katherine tate or should i say nan carnage have been doing our final
22:27presenter rehearsals more on why i'm just like this in a second um but then tomorrow katherine
22:32ryan joins us and so many other brilliant special guests are going to be this i'm not sure actually
22:37if we've got enough dressing rooms we actually we saw the behind the scenes of the amanda land sketch
22:43so good any other treats that we can look forward to um well idris elba um will be reprising his
22:49role
22:49as dci john luther alongside a starry lineup in the bank job sketch um if margot robbie and jacob
22:56elordi's wuthering heights got you a little bit hot under the collar wait until you see john
23:02richardson and katherine ryan's interpretation um and speaking of collars uh take a look at this
23:09one in an exclusive clip from our traitor sketch problem is i'm actually keeping two secrets one i'm a
23:19traitor and two my collar gets bigger every time i tell a lie i think rachel's a traitor she's not
23:30and i
23:31should know because they don't mind it's an absolute nightmare i think stephen might be a traitor
23:39i am not a traitor how dare you actually maybe they won't notice i promise you i am not a
23:47traitor
23:49oh that looks so brilliant and davina as always you look absolutely fantastic but why are you
23:56dressed in this particular outfit well tomorrow schools across the nation are going to go above
24:01and beyond to raise money for comic relief and earlier on today i was teaching a school girl
24:05called lauren um about gift is this live yeah yeah live on telly though yeah shut up yes this is
24:15live live
24:16live with claudia i'm sorry i'm just doing the one show the fringe don't look as big in real life
24:23um and she ain't as orange i'm not claudia winkelman right humble brag why did you live strictly for
24:33because you can't dance no i because i'm davina mccall whatever that means
24:39she ain't davina mccall no she's claudia she ain't bother oh i'm so bored
24:49all day i've had the best day of my life listen guys brace yourselves for tomorrow evening i'll see
24:56you there we'll see you there oh well it looks like davina had a handful uh we'll leave you to
25:01it best of luck uh comic relief funny for money will be live on bbc one and i play tomorrow
25:06from
25:06seven o'clock where the brilliant katherine tate will be hosting the first hour as nan and lauren will be
25:12making another appearance to imagine imagine oh it's gonna be carnish uh nick so that's tomorrow
25:20in your neck of the woods and then next week uh you're kicking off festival uh season yeah we're
25:25going to do yeah the six music festival um which we kick off on wednesday and we bring you loads
25:31of
25:31incredible music from all of our favorite bands our favorite artists that we play at six so we do
25:36wednesday we do a bbc introducing night so we really get to support and champion those bands that are from
25:41the
25:41area and then we do thursday friday and saturday night as well so you'll be able to hear it all
25:47on six music across the couple of days wednesday to saturday nice it's going to be fun i'm really
25:52excited so i mean it's all this year it's all about showcasing like grassroots music venues yeah yeah
25:58so last year we did it at one place and we put on you know a showcase every night and
26:02this year
26:02we wanted to support those really important grassroots independent venues and that you know that
26:09are being threatened constantly all over the country so we thought it was great to shine a light on them
26:13so we've got like various things happening at band of the wall yes and also in eccles town hall as
26:19well
