00:10hey guys we just got back from Michael the biopic of this legendary artist it's
00:18a long time in the making this particular film underwent some reshoots
00:24here to do some legal compliances and it released and the critics hated it is what
00:32is it like 27% slowly rising to like 34% yeah I think I saw it on Rotten Tomatoes
00:38and it is being
00:39bombed now many of you will know that I am a big I'm a big fan of Michael Jackson's music
00:45you know
00:46I've done several reviews I even did a Michael Jackson connect review and me and other Joe we're
00:53just big fans we've been to all the shows you know unfortunately we weren't able to catch the
00:59man himself in concert it's one of my biggest life regrets but we've you know do the Cirque Soleil
01:05the one I can't find my glove I was trying to show up find my glove but I didn't want
01:10to delay the
01:10review so thank you Jay for filling in for other Joe who's in New Zealand yeah funny how that works
01:17yeah always on a are you are you a Michael Jackson fan when I am I I do love the
01:23early days yes I do
01:24love the music when the early days okay excellent I mean the man has been a performer since I mean
01:31clearly you'll see it in the film since his you know youngest days and his life is not quite the
01:38same as everybody else's now this covers his you know Jackson five years all the way up to the 1980s
01:47bad tour so I don't know and I feel like the critics are really railing on this film for not
01:56including
01:57any of Michael's controversies and you know the court cases and allegations and things like that but at
02:04least for this particular film not only did they actually film stuff they actually filmed some of
02:10it and they had to legally remove it which led to about 10 to 20 million dollars in reshoots because
02:16there's some claws in some of the legal proceedings that the Jackson family can't profit off of depictions
02:23of the thing so I don't know what they're going to do about the 1993 allegations in the 2005 allegations
02:29we can get into that kind of stuff later and my opinion on it which uh you know following all
02:35that
02:35stuff closely I think it's all bullshit and well I'll talk about it more uh later but essentially I
02:44think the critics are really railing on it uh you know it's a cookie cutter sugar-coated version
02:50of Michael's life and I'm not sure what people were expecting right especially if uh the man's own
03:00nephew uh I think it's Jafar Jackson uh depicts him first I want to come out and say first and
03:07foremost
03:07a legendary performance from uh Jafar Jackson who I didn't realize you know was an actor had this
03:15kind of talent he channels uh you know Michael Jackson himself uh in an amazing way a 10 out of
03:2510
03:26performance uh he carries the film I think um and just it's legendary I've seen so many Michael
03:33Jackson impersonators you know because I'm a fan I'm going to Vegas and and see these things so I mean
03:38for that performance alone I think it's it's worth seeing if you're a fan of Michael Jackson's music but
03:44I will admit that and me and Jay were talking about this as we were driving home we were like
03:50we knew all that yeah they're like there there's not a single new thing or explored thing in this
03:59if you're just faintly familiar with Michael Jackson you there's nothing new here for you and maybe
04:06that's what this is okay because Michael Jackson you know passed away a long time ago it's been more
04:11than 20 years and maybe the the generations have moved on this is for people who had no idea
04:19about Michael and if that's who it's for then sure it's a condensed really it's like they they took
04:27all the headlines to all his life and then kind of a pan order yeah yeah Jackson five and they
04:34kind
04:34of mixed it in there and um and if you love his music like I do and you love the
04:40dancing and the
04:40performances and the talent I think you'll come away satisfied because I was like what are they
04:47fucking talking about I really enjoyed this of course there's 13 songs in there it is you know
04:53basically a concert and I was jamming the whole time I wasn't expecting them to dive deep into the
05:00court cases and what materials did they find at his home when the FBI raided and all this stuff
05:05which uh you know by the way was all all bullshit and debunked by by the defense we'll talk about
05:11it
05:11later um and so I got what I wanted out of it but you're going to be extremely disappointed if
05:20you
05:20wanted it to be more about his life and the controversies because it's more a celebration of
05:28the talent of the man the music of the man and how he has essentially his life was much different
05:34than your average uh you know person or even sometimes musicians yeah a lot a lot of it had
05:39to do with him and his relationship with his dad yeah there you go and uh this Joe Jackson character
05:44is the big bad of the film right and we all knew that you know going into it so it's
05:48like they don't
05:49even really drill down into it but um they kind of glance over everything in his life is a very
05:54condensed
05:55uh you know this is your life up until this point right thing yeah and you know I don't think
06:02they
06:02were uh you know purposefully staying away from the allegations which again Michael Jackson was acquitted
06:08of all of the allegations all four counts but it's it does say the story will continue or his story
06:16continues gonna be weird yeah it is gonna be very weird and I think that's why I don't think they're
06:21basically why are they because I feel like okay I looked it up and it said uh Lionsgate uh chairman
06:27said that they're not ready yet to confirm plans for a second film but they filmed three and a half
06:34out there's a three and a half hour cut of this particular film that could be used for either a
06:38future film a longer version on DVD or material that can show up in the second film and they explore
06:45some of that the the 90s era the 2000s era the allegations if they go into the 1993 allegations
06:52they'll have to change names the 2005 they could go into it and show that he was acquitted of all
06:56charges
06:57and all this stuff um you know there's the court of public opinion and yes the man is was weird
07:03there
07:03definitely was inappropriate things at least uh as a fan of his that I you know know there's there's a
07:10list
07:10of 10 things that you know I've seen that haven't been disputed or debunked that is just like why
07:15that's so weird um and I think it is partly stems from his warped childhood and and a lack of
07:24childhood
07:25a lot of that stuff and I expected a little bit more of that to be explored and it really
07:30isn't they
07:31they showed it a little bit and then they kind of they hinted at it yeah yeah they hinted at
07:36it and
07:36then they moved on I mean you you mentioned it's like this is your life it's kind of like this
07:40movie
07:40is a romanticized wikipedia entry from the 60s until 1988 or whatever yeah because we never go any
07:48deeper than the headlines so it's like as far as a story it's not great um as far as a
07:55biography
07:55if you're leaving out some of the most tumultuous parts it's not much of a biography and it's more
07:59like a almost like a mj propaganda piece as someone you know I love michael jackson's music
08:06I think it is incredible and I've always I mean really really great stuff and some of the times
08:10they did a good job with it but I mean I could have stayed home and watched like the music
08:14videos
08:15and I think I would have got more out of it because sometimes they didn't do as good of a
08:17job
08:18yeah as I was expecting them to do we saw we watched and saw that michael jackson one thing
08:21every second of that I'm like this is fucking good yeah yeah he was with us that this is nowhere
08:27near
08:28as good as that and like because that's just focusing on the music and so this is the one like
08:33and I've seen all of these this is the one was another good one oh I was just saying like
08:36this
08:36movie is the is out of all of them you know rocket man and bohemian rhapsody and elvis and all
08:40these
08:41other ones this one has more music and like concerts yeah than any other one because there is so little
08:46story here we get this is it yeah it's what's like they didn't really scratch the surface very much on
08:52the father thing I think I thought that was really interesting coleman domingo like you know you like
08:56jafar I think coleman domingo for me was like 10 out of 10 he's so good joe jackson he's so
09:01good
09:02oh that guy's joe jackson yeah I remember watching the court thing and you see like this husk of a
09:07human being joe jackson get out of and it's just like that man looks joe jackson that guy looks evil
09:11and like you're watching this and you're like I get the exact same vibes so like there's this real
09:15creepy scene with joe jackson and uh don king yeah yeah it was almost like super villains yeah
09:27but no I I can't we can't that's one thing I want to elevate and say jafar jackson my god
09:33reincarnated his uncle here it's it's filled with heart and soul and you can tell he studied this
09:39man worked hard and he really re embodies him and uh I think it it hit all the right notes
09:46in terms of
09:46the music and the performances and and the soul and you know the message that michael wanted to put
09:52out there so I I'm I'm in disagreement with a lot of critics I think that if you are a
09:57fan of michael
09:58jackson and his music and you're expecting uh you know so you know um a celebration of that then
10:05you're going to be happy if you're going in and expecting a uh biopic that gets down and dirty and
10:12gets into some of the um you know the controversies and stuff you're going to be sorely disappointed
10:17if that's what you wanted now see I don't watch these okay I didn't see bohemian rhapsody I didn't
10:25see rocket man I didn't see tina tina turner oh I didn't see the tina turner one what and then
10:31there
10:32was uh yeah beatles there's just so many recently so you guys might have and you out there in the
10:39audience might have a better idea of where this would rank amongst other biopics how they've done
10:43a good job of you know depicting the life behind the cameras and behind the performances versus this
10:50this one it you know I but without all that context I can tell that they kind of skip over
10:57you know a lot
10:58of stuff and it is short it's brevity that's where that wikipedia feeling comes comes from and because
11:06I'm not sure I was expecting a lot of that but it feels like it would have um done more
11:13of a service
11:14to cover some of that when you have Jafar Jackson who is so far in my opinion the best depiction
11:21or portrayal of Michael Jackson as a performer and a singer in in that to get him to do more
11:27and um
11:28because I don't think that I do think that he does great in some of the emotional scenes
11:33and including the younger boy who was depicting uh the Jackson 5 version of Michael who was much
11:39younger 10 years old that actor was fucking great yeah well that did a great job that's the
11:45economy of this this whole movie is like the whole story sucks it's all just very plain and stuff we
11:52knew but the performances by the actors were phenomenal for sure which is like it's almost
11:58like they deserved a little bit more complex right storytelling yeah and what's crazy is you know I
12:04love the music and there's times where you're like you're listening to some of the there's some times
12:08where it's like wow this is real this sound is so good yeah and there are other times where like
12:11this
12:11scene doesn't match up like it does this scene doesn't live up to how epic this music is and it
12:16some of these musical scenes do a huge disservice to you know some of these other things well just like
12:22when they were filming the um thriller you know I wanted them to go more into the thriller portion of
12:27it
12:27because you know there's a whole that the whole documentary of how he made it yes him sitting in the
12:32chair getting the makeup on and Vincent Price was offered a bunch of money on the album and didn't
12:36take it there's so many cool Michael stories that just it drives me crazy that none of them were
12:40thrown in there yeah he wanted to go to Brazil he wanted to film a music video in Brazil and
12:44the
12:44Brazilian government didn't want to do it and they were worried and get kidnapped and murdered
12:47but the mafia leader in the city loved him so much no I'm gonna I'm gonna guarantee his protection
12:53and they filmed it with no problem it's right there's so many cool Michael stories and we told
12:57none of them yeah no we told some of them we told some of them there was to beat it
13:02there was the
13:02beat it one with the Bloods and the Crips and he was well yeah but that was that one's very
13:07well known
13:07yeah well I honestly I did I mean I knew that but I didn't know it was like that elaborate
13:16and where
13:17he brought in both sides they weren't fighting each other they both loved his music and so they
13:22wanted to be a part of it and that's the power of Michael you know at his height of popularity
13:28this
13:28is a multi-billion dollar artist that dominated for decades and they can't tell everything in a two
13:35and a half hour story there's some really interesting you should watch some of those behind the scenes
13:40stuff on thriller and this he basically complains hey I need we need my feet in this more and he's
13:46talking to Landis he's like hey can you know or he gets somebody to talk to Landis and you know
13:50then they reshoot it and they do a great rendition of it a man practiced his moves quite a bit
13:55but it
13:56does make me wish like yeah but I wanted more there's sprinkles throughout the film that he's
14:02watching horror movies while he's trying to pick the headlining you know the title the album the album
14:10song essentially and going between human nature and some of these other ones eventually landing on
14:16thriller but I wish there was more behind that and we could see some of that so I wanted more
14:21and
14:21that's a good thing since there is a three and a half hour cut somewhere whether this film bombs at
14:27the box office because nobody cares about Michael Jackson anymore or makes a billion dollars as some
14:32people were predicting because Michael Jackson is the king of pop and this legendary figure we're gonna
14:37have to see uh and then if it does succeed you're gonna have a weird weird problem on your hand
14:44because then
14:44his story continues well you you gotta include 1993 you gotta include 2005 and then you know some of his
14:53later work and stuff and how's that going to work especially uh you know if this film was forced to
15:00reshoot
15:01due to some legal legalities because they you know they couldn't include some of the the things uh
15:07they'll just have to change names around and stuff so we'll have to see but um damn you know I
15:14don't
15:14know what do you think do you want me to give your rating yeah I think it's time to go
15:20into okay hold on
15:21before we do that the the there are several good moments the good stories so I don't want to say
15:26that
15:27that's not a thing um the MTV okay at one point uh it's depicted that MTV doesn't want to put
15:34Michael
15:35Jackson on their show and uh this sort of power play he brings his manager in there and they talk
15:41to
15:41uh CBS Records president Walter uh to get MTV to play his music videos and it's a great fucking scene
15:48I'm
15:48like is this fucking real now I didn't know about David Bowie actually in a real interview you know
15:54questioning why MTV wasn't playing black artists they would play them at like four in the morning
16:00David Bowie would say and and then you know the interviewer or the MTV would no that's not true this
16:07and
16:07that and then they talked a little bit more about it and he got the guy to walk into a
16:11trap and he
16:12basically said it's like yeah but you know in the Midwest that might scare them and stuff so they were
16:18you know making sure that some of this stuff wasn't there now they use the excuse that it is a
16:23rock
16:24rock and roll only which I can immediately tell was bullshit because they were already playing
16:29other songs and they had some other performance over there but ultimately Walter was like look
16:35if you don't put Michael Jackson on here I'm gonna pull every single one of my artists from your
16:42channel uh people like fucking um who did he say Bob Dylan Bob Dylan it's just big honchos and then
16:51he's like all right if you don't play within 10 minutes I just thought it was a great a great
16:56scene and Michael was smiling and I'm like that's that's one good story and that actually did happen
17:00so I thought that that was pretty cool um yeah and uh and then we had we even get it
17:07maybe that's why
17:09the budget of this film was so unnecessarily high so this film was already 170 million and then they
17:16had to do 20 million and reshoots so and then probably marketing so you're up to about 200 250
17:21million I'm like there's no fucking way that this equates into that because that's that's crazy
17:28but some of the budget must have been the cgi monkey so they got bubbles in here and I don't
17:36know
17:36because a real monkey picked it tear your face off that's why yeah well it's kind of it's not depicted
17:42in its full form like how does he meet the monkey how does he decide just some guy drops this
17:47side
17:48just a guy drops him off and it's implied that he's met the monkey before but then when they do
17:53the scene of them first meeting it's supposed to be like it's cute and Michael has a connection with
17:58all animals and so this is the first time they're meeting but it's not so it's all confused and it's
18:02weird and you see gis to get the monkey to do uh you know dumb things but uh I don't
18:08know it's just
18:08weird and it would have been uh more interesting to see some of that weirdness addressed and they
18:15just kind of comb over yeah I wanted them to dive into anything really and so it's like we got
18:20that
18:20really short a cool scene about what you mentioned with cbs but it was it was short and kind of
18:24shallow
18:25the bubble thing was was kind of shallow the only thing that we touch on a few times was the
18:29conflict
18:29between him and his father which I think was really interesting but we didn't you know I think
18:33that we could have had an entire movie focusing on that and like really went into some of those
18:37things and then it was just kind of it was a surface level for me yeah very much and then
18:42finally they kind of use it's like how do you do this if you're uh it feels like the movie
18:48is cut
18:48in half and I say okay how do you have a a satisfying movie if you cut it in half
18:52what's the conflict
18:53what's the red climax it's the the pepsi thing so when michael jackson got a pepsi sponsorship deal
19:00um they got a director and the set uh crew wasn't you know that careful and they had michael way
19:07too
19:08close to one of the pyrotechnics and this is well known everybody knows about this but a lot of people
19:13don't know that it really did fucking burn him all the way to his scalp and it caused him lasting
19:20you
19:20know pain problems and that is essentially what got him addicted to pain medication and could have
19:28contributed to what his eventual death in the future when he was addicted to pain meds so he had
19:33the you know these very bad burns third degree burns and some serious nerve damage and so they
19:39depict this and that and and they're like you could have died and you're almost you know dead and then
19:44joe jackson immediately is like when can he get on stage again that's all he ever sing again when he
19:50ever say I was like okay that's ridiculous he moves his feet right he needs to get back on stage
19:55but it's just the callousness of his father you know in that moment that's what he's worried
20:00about instead of something else that was super villain the super villain type stuff and joe i guess
20:05i mean you'd have to hear joe defend himself but that's kind of what reportedly what it was really
20:11like he's a hard driver of of his children while you know didn't probably didn't do things the right
20:17way you know he he is a factor in their success and that's why it's a complex and interesting story
20:23to mine it's just they don't mine it too much and and i wish they did i don't know if
20:27they're
20:27because they're trying to be respectful to the family or whatever but no they show joe as a piece
20:31of shit yeah and they're like no joe's a piece of shit then why make the movie like if you're
20:35trying
20:35to like if you want to tell the story you need to tell the story and so like you know
20:39if they're
20:39afraid of those things and then then why make it and i guess they didn't know that they couldn't
20:43show any of the stuff later on they found out after the fact much you know for with a 20
20:47million
20:48reshoot bill right but it's like if you don't have access to the whole thing you know maybe you
20:52need to wait until you do because it it ultimately felt like we didn't dive into anything so i think
20:58you're gonna have a great time in the film now you know and you have to set your expectations so
21:04i
21:04think it's entertaining and it's worth seeing and it was worth my money um it is a condensed version
21:09of it this film does feel like for somebody who has never seen all of the various depictions
21:14of documentaries and uh mini tv series i've seen them all and uh so for me it's like i've there's
21:21not a single thing in here that i didn't know uh you know except for that that the depth of
21:27the mtv
21:27stuff though i think i remember i've seen it a long time ago but just bringing it up in this
21:33way and
21:34depicted and it was it was cool to see so i think you'll have fun i liked it uh but
21:38i understand some
21:39of the criticism is against it for sure uh let's go to final verdicts for michael
21:46you want me to go first yeah you go first um i'm already locked in i i think it's uh
21:52below average
21:53film especially within the genre um i think there's some interesting stuff that we could have talked
21:58about within the movie but we ultimately didn't and then when we did they're briefly mentioned it's
22:03more like reading headlines and highlights in such a short period of time a lot of the movie is the
22:08musical performances which i really do enjoy but uh you know sometimes it was just it was shortened
22:14versions of them or you know and if if i wanted to listen to his music i i you absolutely
22:18shouldn't
22:18especially if you never listened to it but um so the movie didn't really say a whole lot and uh
22:24i
22:24it definitely feels like it's a movie that was cut down and and re-shot and so um i don't
22:29think
22:29there's a whole lot of substance here excellent performances by nearly everyone in the film i think
22:34everyone did awesome uh but it's just they weren't given material and i think that the legendary music
22:40wasn't given scenes that lived up to how legendary the music it was and so it's like we have you
22:44know
22:45coleman domingo at the top of his game and jafar jackson doing incredible and they were just given
22:49hard to live up to the real michael but that's that's your task right that's literally your task
22:53when you make it cannot be done jafar is never going to be as crisp as michael was so that's
22:58not how i'm
22:59judging i'm not judging it based i'm not saying that his voice isn't as good because i don't think
23:04that you know the guy who did oh i don't remember his name in rocket man isn't doesn't have the
23:07same
23:07voice as elton john but man that story is good and the music is good and it's a story that
23:13had that has
23:13like a beginning middle and end and it feels like a journey the entire way and you're just like wow
23:17i
23:18learned stuff and this is great and this is just like it literally does feel like if j had read
23:23me
23:23the wikipedia article the best things in michael's life from 68 to 88 it's like yes okay and then it's
23:29like
23:29we're gonna do anything else other than that nope and so the performances but that's what you get
23:34but i've but like i said we've seen i've seen all of his show like like recordings of his shows
23:38and
23:38his other live stuff like that stuff did it better so i don't i don't like it very much and
23:43i think
23:43it's below average so i give me a four four out of ten oh and you just remind me alex
23:48you know who
23:49was absent from the film that i just remembered who the fuck was janet jackson yeah oh that's so weird
23:54i was gonna bring that up she's not in there oh you were yeah but there's no janet yeah i'm
24:01thinking
24:02wait a minute was she born after that's like no she's younger right she's removed well yeah but
24:07i think that she didn't want to be in it right i don't know what happened but you can't tell
24:12you
24:12can't tell them not to do that that's yeah they there are other things they did in the film that
24:17i'm
24:17sure that they would have told them not to do but yeah because uh jenny had her own little career
24:22she you know she had the tv i don't know why it's just crazy um we have to watch the
24:27sequel yeah
24:28we gotta see the sequel for that part yeah but yeah i mean there's a lot of holes in this
24:32movie that
24:33that i think should have been covered like they didn't even explore uh when jermaine went to motown
24:38yeah they mentioned it they mentioned it one sentence and that was it and then guess what he's
24:42back at victory tour yeah and uh everything's happy and you know welcome back you know type thing i was
24:47like well okay what happened there you know that's stuff like that that you know that we really
24:52don't know about we heard about but yeah we didn't uh get to explore before they kind of they glossed
24:58over it which really kind of you know again this this movie was just the highlights of his life from
25:05like you said 60 68 to 88 and um so much stuff in there that could have been explored regardless
25:13of
25:14all the controversy stuff that a lot of that stuff happened after that yeah too right so but there's
25:18stuff in in the beginning that time where we could have you know looked at um so again this this
25:26movie
25:26was just it was okay for me again i love the performance but some of the performance it was
25:33like they did such a good job but it seemed like the the the writing and the directing kind of
25:40pushed
25:40them to make some of the the scenes over the top like like like you said when when he was
25:45you know you
25:46know late or he didn't want to practice and he beat his ass yeah i'm like come on everything everybody
25:51was watching him hey we're just watching him beat your be his ass like brutally beat his ass yeah and
25:57i just come on i just found that it was because janet jackson declined to be part of the film
26:03she read
26:04early scripts and she was unhappy with the way her betrayal was and she doesn't it didn't accurate
26:10represent her life and so they respected her wishes to not uh erase her erase her from the room
26:18yeah she probably wanted yeah it was either she wanted more in the film or uh or or says like
26:23that's not what this is about or as she also believed that it was dishonest in some of the
26:28portrayals and not addressed to her satisfaction so she chose to step back his daughter said the same
26:33thing too but she wasn't there yeah and then the hospital scene too that that was like oh when is
26:38he
26:38going to be back on stage that's a little bit over the top the performance or the the lines in
26:43that
26:43oh yeah because everything's condensed you're like i'm did he really say it in that particular moment
26:50yeah did he really whoop his ass at the second they came home celebrating of their first gig was
26:55successful probably not you know and that's what probably pisses off some of the jacksons because it's
27:02like that's not how it happened now granted his father did kick his ass one time when like he didn't
27:08want
27:08to practice 17 sessions from then sure yeah but you know that's what the movie does is it condenses
27:15stuff and it over exaggerates right and so oh in all um i'm i'm right there too at the four
27:22oh okay
27:23below average well okay i wish i would joe i did have i have that that one cgi moment that
27:30i don't know
27:30if you oh yeah yeah the bad the bad cgi at the end when when he's in london there the
27:36the camera's coming in
27:37uh to the stage and all the heads like look like little the crowd was a little they all
27:43and then the it's crazy we shoot all this stuff it's crazy how how many people he could pack into
27:50a stadium yeah that these days it's hard to simulate getting all those people together so
27:55they had to use some bad cgi for it but then the crowd individual shots yeah after that that you
28:00could
28:00tell it was cgi but they were so much better yeah so i was like why do you have this
28:04one crappy scene
28:05just cut it out well it's because they had to make a cohesive movie because they had to cut the
28:08last part of the movie i was like oh all right so it's like what anytime you do reshoots like
28:11that
28:11and you're like hey you have to change the ending of this they're gonna have to rush yeah but i
28:15have
28:15to put this uh crappy cgi in there with all the good they rushed it in order to try to
28:20show the scale
28:21of michael's shows because they were huge but that particular cgi shot wasn't great but all of the
28:26fans they depicted really really well and how they would like freak out over michael and everything and
28:31faint and stuff that shit was real and um uh yeah so uh i i'm wondering i mean i wish
28:38uh you know my
28:39mega fan other joe was here to tell us what he thought but i i i feel like he might
28:44echo some of
28:45the same things that we've said here that it's like wow yeah i knew that already is i was hoping
28:49for
28:50something you know additional uh we'll ask him when he gets back but for me i enjoyed it i enjoyed
28:56it
28:56more than boys of course my expectations were completely different um you know and uh i don't
29:01really watch a lot of these biopics so i don't have the full story and i think uh my suspicion
29:07is that
29:08alex is a little more correct and it's like we can have a celebration of the artist and his music
29:13and
29:13stuff but then also a compelling story that works without all of the music as well and if that's what
29:19you're looking for that's not what you're going to get here you're going to get a mini concert with all
29:25of his best performances and jafar jackson a 10 out of 10 impersonation performance and
29:31embody living embodiment of of his uncle's soul come to life on screen that's what i was open for
29:37that's exactly what i got so but i can acknowledge a lot of the weaknesses in the story i think
29:43i'm
29:43i'm between a seven and an eight and i think it's probably and it does feel cut off there towards
29:48the
29:48end and i'm like okay now we're getting somewhere and then and then it ends and they're like his story
29:53will continue maybe maybe we want to maybe we won't uh i don't know so then in that case i'll
30:01end on the eight out of ten and this is from a big fan of michael so um you know
30:07i am curious how they
30:09will continue the story and uh you know maybe they they can put out there a lot more of uh
30:17you know
30:17the the full story so we'll see how that works out um that's our opinion uh i'm looking up i'm
30:26stalling because i'm looking for the numbers there it is uh so it's tracking to earn at least 65 to
30:3270
30:32million domestically which would make it the biggest stateside opening ever for a music biopic this is
30:39ahead of current record holder uh straight out of compton which is 60.2 and fox's freddie mercury biopic
30:46bohemian rhapsody which is at 55. uh so it's tracking well michael apparently still has pull
30:52and we'll see how well it does overseas my guess it'll do even better overseas because michael is
30:58is worldwide and big um so we'll have to see um we could do a little bit of talking uh
31:05behind the
31:06scenes maybe get into some of the allegations and stuff and and people are upset at the film because
31:11they didn't include this or that in the spoilers discussion otherwise there's so much to spoil
31:16because most people know uh his story already so but that's it from us thank you so much for watching
31:22let me know have you seen the film what do you think of the film do you agree or do
31:26you think it's
31:27all and way way way better than the critics make it out to be uh let us know in the
31:32comments down below
31:33um and we'll see you on the next angry joe show bye guys
31:51hey guys welcome to the spoiler section um so yeah um you know everything there you know everything
32:00we got the pepsi in there we got his his tyrant father joe jackson just whooping his and like
32:07we touched on this a little bit jay it's like did he really get his ass beat with the belt
32:11right when they came home when they're celebrating it's like i don't know you'd have to talk with one
32:16of the jackson brothers yeah it seems like they like you said they would know they condensed all the
32:19beatings into one yeah okay oh he got beat multiple times in the film you see the door closing and
32:28he's
32:28about to get get beat and you know how his mother never really fought back uh until she told him
32:35hey
32:35you can't beat the boys no more you know he's a he's a grown man now and he's gonna do
32:39what he's gonna
32:40do and and then it's like did jackson really get bullied into the victory tour did he really get
32:47bullied into the tour with his brothers i'm sure jackson said no i i want to do it and i
32:52you know
32:53i have this feeling but his culmination of deciding i want to do it didn't come after this or that
32:59you
32:59know it's it's moved and in in ways to make it more dramatic and i think that would be the
33:04defense
33:05because a lot of these biopics do play with these series of events yeah they're not trying to be
33:12it's it's a movie and so like the point it's not a documentary they're trying to entertain you
33:16with as many you know facts as you possibly can but you also want to have like that through line
33:21story
33:21that's compelling and that's the only problem that i had is that that we didn't really get a
33:25compelling if you don't know the story of joe jackson i think what was depicted is compelling enough
33:33i think that's why i gave it a better review because i i mean i know the story of joe
33:38jackson
33:39but that shit is fascinating like you are growing up you're fucking eight years old i mean i don't
33:44know when he started i'm younger than that yeah and um that's your whole fucking life and then to
33:50have this conflict with your father and the way the movie depicts it is like i want to be creative
33:55on my own i want to write my own things i want to get my own voice i want to
33:58have a whole new look
34:00we forgot to get into that the the nose oh yeah how they do that yeah because then i mean
34:06he had a
34:06completely different shape nose in the middle i think three or four different noses yeah the
34:10first one was the prosthetic and then he started out okay that's what it was i was like okay because
34:15i was like damn that's some good cgi the whole time he's dancing yeah and there's no job i mean
34:21they
34:21throw in a line joe jackson's like big nose you know yeah so it kind of sprinkles in there did
34:26it
34:26come from his father making fun of him right is that real i mean we may probably know um and
34:32his
34:32insecurities about that uh they even throw uh the skin condition which was real i mean people to this
34:38day think that oh he just bleached himself because you know whatever and maybe the complexity of it
34:44is a little deeper it's a mixture of a lot of different things i mean he probably did do skin
34:48bleaching but he did it for a reason it wasn't he just did it one day and he's like you
34:52know what i
34:52want to do i want to be white yeah and so like he had a skin condition he had a
34:56skin condition and
34:57things moved on i mean a lot of things can drive you crazy it is what you do once those
35:01things drive
35:02you crazy that you know what people talk about that would be the sequel as he's losing his
35:06dangling babies and shared from from balconies and and uh doing massive attacks on the media who
35:13to be fair were up people and coming after him and you know just they would make so much money
35:20and
35:20clicks because he's such a mega star anything michael controversy sold tabloids and sold
35:27papers even if it wasn't true they told so many fucking lies which and then there was so much
35:32money involved which is why you know i don't believe a lot of the accusers he's been acquitted
35:36of all a lot of those charges you look at the um the types of people that did accuse them
35:43and how
35:44much their stories have changed and why they were pressured by their parents and doing all this other
35:48stuff you got to do your own research you can watch there's several documentaries i mean me and joe
35:53watch uh what is it leaving neverland together for a while there we were like what the fuck but
35:58then we watch some other stuff that debunks that and moves it forward and you know there's still
36:04there's still weird stuff i don't know how they would do a sequel i i think they should probably stay
36:09away from this stop it there let's stop it here but we'll see you know if they have because then
36:14you're you're asking jafar jackson to you know be a part of you know something like that i don't know
36:21how you you do have you do uh touch on a good point um if i was a a person
36:26um you know and only heard
36:28his songs a couple times yeah you know know of his songs and then go in and watch this movie
36:33yeah i i
36:34it would be a totally different experience than what we we found um so like if you have kids you
36:40know
36:40uh the kids going in they they would get a bite-sized pint version of it and it's whitewashed
36:46or clean washed whatever you want to call it um but it's inspiring story and it is a good story
36:52and
36:52a lot of it is real and a lot of it did happen and so that's why it's like but
36:58you know i guess at this
36:59budget level and at this time when you have all this talent you you know you want it to be
37:05the best
37:06i mean he's the king of pop he was the most famous man on earth he says got such an
37:09interesting story
37:10and i just wish they told more of it because it feels like 40 40 well actually how long is
37:14this
37:14movie two hours two hours seven minutes so probably an hour 127 yeah i like the majority of this movie
37:21is him at concerts with him singing and it's very little story and it's like i wanted more and then
37:27the story that we did get are these soft moments where he's you know home alone either you know kissing
37:31donkeys or playing with uh walking a llama uh walking a llama you know going and buying a bunch
37:38of toys and signing autographs and it's like that is the least deep stuff yeah it's a piece it's kind
37:44of a it was going to the kids hospitals every every other scene every other scene and it may i
37:50don't
37:50know why it makes it feel like it's propaganda but it's not michael really did love going and and
37:58bringing smiles to children's faces who are fucking terminal yeah who are about to die or had cancer
38:04and stuff and they just needed to put a scene in there where it's like michael mike we've got to
38:09practice we've got to do all this other stuff and you know i i heard that you wanted to go
38:13visit a
38:13hospital don't you don't need to do that man don't worry about it let's go make some money and michael's
38:17like no i want to go to the hospital and i want to see these kids but that's not in
38:22there and so when
38:23they depict it and he's like you know doing all signing all the con uh contracts and all the music
38:29industry stuff and then all of a sudden he's in the hospitals it's like yeah is this a part of
38:34your
38:34marketing campaign it's like for people that don't know you know my i wish there was more in there
38:39was like no i i this is what i'm doing i don't care if i lose money yeah it was
38:44it was all in a
38:46montage that you know that was kind of jumbled together with the the signing of the contracts i'm
38:51in the hospital with kids and then you know uh i'm uh you know talking to the fans it's like
38:57it's like music video 30 seconds of fluff music video five seconds of fluff joe jackson being a
39:03monster yeah music video music video music video and at the end it's like 15 straight minutes of
39:07concert and we do get i mean the the whole climax of the movie is michael declaring himself publicly
39:12yeah free from his father and so that's the whole thing right like dodger stadium at dodger so
39:18he's like he tell he tells the entire world on stage on stage this is my final victory tour i'm
39:24not doing anything with my brothers anymore and he looks over he's looking at his dad and so it's like
39:29i there there is that kind of whole through line but it's like that is such an epic moment if
39:33we had
39:33built up this relationship which is fascinating between the two of them but you know they didn't
39:39want to yeah you get a little bit that's it um i i want to cover this because i think
39:45it's important
39:46and you know i'm a fan of michael jackson and it's it's important to give context so some of these
39:51allegations uh you know he was acquitted okay there was mountains and mountains of evidence that the
39:59defense tried to present and not guilty on count one not guilty count uh two through five not guilty on
40:07count six seven through ten not guilty some people like to bring up the fact that oh they found uh
40:13you
40:13porn or something next to his bed and stuff and it's like okay well uh you know what people do
40:19in
40:19their private life are different and then there's an accusation that one of it is a particular type
40:23that i'm not going to say here on youtube which was debunked because there were thousands and thousands
40:28of books across multiple properties they found some best-selling books that were confiscated and you
40:35know if there was something that was a you know actual have seen in there that would have immediately
40:41been acted on all of the jurors would have acted on it as well but what they found after all
40:47these
40:48mounds of evidence is an acquittal uh and so that's important and essentially the defense tries to put
40:54uh a pattern together and they put the pattern together and it failed in a jury of his peers
40:59uh and they didn't find anything actionable so that's what's going on on the legal side of things and
41:05the very serious allegations that they stayed away from that they're going to have to cover
41:12in an eventual sequel if they do um and with how much money it's making you would think that they
41:21would
41:22what to get money back from the first one or do you think that if this movie is number one
41:29biopic
41:30ever released domestically and but internationally that they will go into all of these weird
41:38allegations and things legally legally they can't they can't profit off if that's what they could do
41:43is they can change the name well then you're i don't think so because then you're still profiting of
41:49all of the allegations even if you change the name and what alex is talking about is the estate is
41:53not
41:53allowed to profit off any way off the allegations and so if you know if that is correct and that
41:59stands
42:00then they can't make it honestly the second half of his life post 88 is way less interesting outside
42:06of the allegations yeah it is because his this was the interest this was the opportunity to do the
42:10really cool thing and make a banger ass fucking movie and in my opinion you didn't and so the
42:15less interesting thought side that's not a courtroom drama because it would be a courtroom drama yeah
42:19it's like he released a couple things and he did some stuff with his his sister who doesn't exist
42:24in this universe now yeah so it's the multiverse yeah the jackson multiverse
42:29yeah oh she was on the jackson crossover yeah yeah but she doesn't exist he doesn't have a
42:34sister yeah yeah i know well maybe she she was on set she was on good times uh the set
42:39of good times
42:40so we're saying this that that thing at the end is like the greatest tease of all time and we
42:45know
42:45that that's not gonna happen you know yeah maybe someone will return in the next thing no he won't
42:51they should have wrote like his music will live on because that's absolutely true like yeah yeah
42:54i think that they should have done that yeah just said the nice little thing at the end not saying
42:59oh here comes don't worry it's almost like telling the audience we know that we pulled out a lot
43:04of stuff yeah but don't worry we're gonna give it to you later and you're like no you're not yeah
43:07don't do that just don't even do that just be like yeah yeah we wanted to focus on this stuff
43:13why do you have to even say say anything we're focusing on why would you have to say anything at
43:18the end like yeah you know that's what i'm saying like why i mean does it does it help the
43:21movie now
43:22no no it's active a little worse for me it was like what do you mean his story continues it's
43:27like
43:28okay what yeah what what no he in court or what that yeah i don't i don't want to see
43:33any of the
43:33neverland ranch stuff no i don't want to yeah i don't i don't want that i'm good okay well um
43:39i think
43:39we've pretty much covered everything even the uncomfortable stuff uh you know i just wanted to be thorough
43:45um but we'll see we'll see what happens in the box office because you know the tracking numbers you
43:52know could be wrong it could be much less could be much more i got bad word of mouth in
43:57the beginning
43:57i know most people don't care about rotten tomato scores but i mean if like people are saying that
44:01it's not good but what's the what's the critic score versus the i don't think it's out it wasn't out
44:06yet because it just came out yeah uh so right now the critics are going up oh it just released
44:1239 critics 94 audience wow all right this is uh 500 plus verified ratings and as they add more
44:22ratings it's probably going to go up or down so the audience have audiences have spoken this is what
44:27they wanted to see they wanted a concert they wanted a concert with jafar jackson and hey he did
44:34a great job and they wanted a cliff notes version of of his life i think captain nemo was better
44:40oh
44:41yeah what's captain when he played uh the thing at disneyland yeah disneyland the 3d okay oh captain
44:48elo or something like that yeah uh yeah whatever i i saw it when i was a little kid at
44:55disneyland yeah
44:56they did skip over to joe pesci stuff i wanted him to show all the robot stuff because i love
45:00that stuff
45:01but they didn't do the moonwalker and stuff yeah did they even do smooth criminal no they didn't do
45:06a lot of good songs oh i think they're maybe they're saving that for the sequel i don't know but
45:12yeah
45:12all right well that's about it guys tell us uh you know what what you thought that's what i thought
45:18would happen that the audiences would be no no no this was amazing because it does have the energy and
45:26it does have the talent and the performances are fantastic and a lot of people don't care about you
45:32know some of the allegations oh well that yeah so that's one part of it the allegations that they're
45:37not coming over the more they're not covering the more dirty aspects or um you know underbelly aspects
45:43of his life um but alex is right from a critic standpoint it's like there's a lot of other material
45:49that could have been mine that would have made for a far more engaging and poignant story and it's
45:57there it's just not focused on and i think it would have had more impact and i would have done
46:04more of a service to the legend than michael was so all right well thank you all so much for
46:10watching
46:11and uh leave your comments down below and we will see you guys on the next angry joe show bye
