00:00Last week we heard President Trump saying words to the effect that there was no one left to talk to
00:05on the Iranian side.
00:06He seemed to be implying that so many high-profile individuals had been assassinated by the United States.
00:13Now he's saying there have been these constructive exchanges regarding a complete and total resolution of hostilities.
00:21What's your understanding? Who's talking to who? Any names, any individuals?
00:25It looked like there is no direct negotiation between the regime in Tehran and the Trump administration.
00:34As I said before, it looked like there are regional powers, which is Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt has been engaging
00:43in mediation between those two parties.
00:45Before that was Oman was also engaging in mediation between the United States and Iran.
00:53I think when it comes to the Iranian regime, it's interesting that despite the assassination of the leadership of this
00:59regime,
01:00this regime sustained its power, and that is partly because or largely because of the institutional power.
01:07I think the regime in Tehran learned from the mistake of other regimes in mediation,
01:11like Gaddafi in Libya or Assad in Syria, that to make the survival of the regime
01:17is not solely dependent on those, on the supreme powers, right?
01:22So I think that's a very, tell us something about the institutional capacity of the Iranian regime,
01:27that even though three or four weeks of this war,
01:30and despite the power of the U.S. and Israel, it stays in power.
01:34So I think the institutional power here of the regime,
01:37tell us about why this regime has sustained itself,
01:40despite all this military power against it from the United States and Israel.
01:45Well, in addition to that, I think the Iranian regime is using what I call economic war,
01:51which is affecting the Strait of Hormuz
01:54and making the price of this war is very high to everyone,
01:59not only to Israel and the United States, but also to U.S. allies in the region,
02:03as well as the oil and gas markets.
02:05So that puts pressure on the U.S. to try to find,
02:08at least to negotiate and find a solution to this war.
