00:00The Democratic Republic of Congo is preparing to hold its second general census more than 40 years after the previous

00:10On Monday, responsible bodies met in Kinshasa for a roundtable aimed at mobilizing financial support for this population and housing
00:18census project.
00:19The main goal is to secure firm commitment from all partners in order to raise the resources needed for the
00:25first operation, which is now considered a national priority by the president, Shisakedi.
00:30According to the authorities, nearly $210 million in pledges have been made while the required budget is estimated at $192
00:38million.
00:39Part of these funds will also be devoted to conducting electoral process and strengthening the National Statistic Institute.
00:46The first phase of the operation mapping could begin as early as July 2026.
00:52The last census was conducted in 1994 and at that time, DRC had around 30 million people compared with more
01:00than 110 million according to estimates.
