00:03It was once a busy and popular nightclub, attracting young people from across the West
00:07Midlands for large events and late-night music. But in 2022, the Crane venue in Digbeth became
00:14the scene of a fatal stabbing which shocked the region. Cody Fisher, a 23-year-old footballer,
00:20was attacked on the dance floor and died at the scene. Following that incident, the club's
00:25license was revoked amid concerns about safety and security. Now, more than three years on,
00:30a court has been told the venue could be allowed to reopen. At Birmingham Magistrates Court,
00:36a consent order has been put forward to restore the premises' license, subject to strict conditions.
00:42Officials say discussions have taken place between Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Police and
00:48those seeking to operate the site. The proposal has been described as effectively creating a new
00:53license designed to address present and future risks. Any venue reopening there would operate
00:59under a different name and with a new senior management team. Police say they have advised
01:04on measures to help ensure safety and added their thoughts remain with Cody Fisher's family
01:09and everyone affected by his death. Authorities say any future venue must meet strict licensing
01:15objectives, including preventing crime, protecting the public and responding to changing risks in the
01:21area. No confirmed reopening date has yet been announced.
