00:00Hey, my name is Paul, I'm a producer here at LucasArts and...
00:04And I'm Shara and I'm an executive producer here at LucasArts and we are here to introduce you to Fracture.
00:10We're going to show you some gameplay and it takes place in the San Francisco area.
00:14The mission is called the Drop Ship Mission.
00:17And it really shows off the TD, it's an early mission of the game and it's really cool.
00:22And you get to see a lot of what this game is about.
00:24Yeah, so we really hope you like it and we're going to get started right now, so here you go.
00:29Hey, so here we are, that's Jet. He's just had a terrible drop ship crash.
00:33Possibly the only survivor and he's dropped into this area early in the game.
00:38It's basically set in San Francisco, 150 years in the future.
00:41You play Jet, he's the coolest character in the game because he's the only guy in the whole game with
00:45an entrencher.
00:46It's really cool, lets you change the ground around you, the environment on the fly.
00:50So you saw up there when Chris Norris, who is our driver today, he was just looking at the sky.
00:55There's a whole bunch of AA guns that are firing and so Jet's going to have a really hard time
00:59getting in reinforcements of any kind because of those AA guns.
01:01So his job is to figure out a way to get rid of them.
01:05Ooh, that was a nice little frame rate hitch. We do want to get that fixed, don't worry, we definitely
01:10will.
01:11But anyway, so Jet's going to try to roll in here and figure out how to take down these AA
01:14guns.
01:15Here's this bunker, you can see there's no doors.
01:18There's no way to get in other than using TD.
01:20So it's just a quick example of how we actually use this in the game.
01:25So what do you think? What's going to happen?
01:27So, yeah, that's a good question. How's he going to get in there?
01:29He's got to use his entrencher, which is his device.
01:34A little tool of mayhem.
01:35Yeah, that lets him raise and lower the ground using the terrain deformation technology that we've got in the game.
01:40I like how it says press B to punch on there, but like Norris just ignores that and just like
01:44shoots him in the face.
01:46Good job.

01:49So that's an example of one of the enemy characters, one of two you'll see in this level.
01:53You know, this is an early mission in the game, so you're going to have more light kinds of guys.
01:57We're going to see Dragoons. We love those because they're just like, you know, basically fodder for you.
02:01And like, maybe you can show Jet like throwing a grenade from behind.
02:06You know how he does that over the shoulder routine? We like that.
02:09So Chris just threw a tectonic grenade there, which actually raises the ground and has a pretty deadly explosive charge.
02:19So he's in a situation right here.
02:21These AA guns are taking down all the Alliance dropships and aircraft and what have you.
02:28He's got to figure out a way to get rid of that thing.
02:30And he's shooting at it. It's not doing anything.
02:32See that honeycomb stuff all around the top there?
02:35That's a shield.
02:36You know, one thing you sort of grow to learn in the game is anytime there's a shield like that,
02:40it actually is very deadly in and of itself.
02:43It causes a lot of damage.
02:44So we're going to see if we can use our terrain deformation to figure out some way to make the
02:50shield work to our advantage.

02:54Chris, of course you have done this 54 million times, so I don't want to give you too much credit
02:58for that little maneuver.
03:00But it was nice.
03:02And so it just opens up some different strategies.
03:04Number one, it just looks awesome. It's just a badass weapon.
03:07But the other thing is we're going to need to be a little more aggressive building that terrain so that
03:11you can actually get into that building.
03:12You're not going to be able to do it without building terrain.
03:19Nice.
03:20This is early in the game, so we do want to use a little bit of repetition every now and
03:26then so that people get the basic hang of things.
03:29And it's not so much figuring out what the puzzle is, it's more trying to have tactical problem solving.
03:35Yeah, this level that we're in right now actually is the first part of the game you see after the
03:38tutorial, so...
03:39You know, this is an early mission in the game, so you're going to have...
03:43You know, we want to make sure that everybody can get in and sort of get comfortable with everything.
03:47Especially the TD and figure out the best ways to use it and how we've integrated it into the game.
03:52So, you know, other guys may be able to throw grenades and they can raise and lower the ground but
03:57with hardly any precision.
03:58But you've got Jet who, you know, is able to basically decide where and when all the time he wants
04:05to move terrain.
04:06Maybe if Chris wants to get up on the roof, there's a pretty cool weapon up there.
04:10I mean, this is a totally pre-alpha build.
04:12There's a lot of work that the developers, they're in Day One Studios in Chicago.
04:17These guys are working like crazy right now.
04:19They're doing a ton of bug fixing and polishing and tuning and a lot of stuff is still going in.
04:25So we'll just make fun of it a little bit here and there.
04:27But, you know, there's a lot of work that's still going on.
04:29This is by no means the final product.
04:31So Chris just picked up a Bangalore rocket launcher, which is pretty awesome.
04:34As you can see, it shoots a rocket that has a pretty big area effect when it lands and detonates.
04:41So what's your favorite weapon, Paul?
04:42I guess I'd have to say my favorite weapon right now is the torpedo launcher.
04:46And you can see some examples of it here in the game.
04:49So here we are, the ST-4, Paul's admitted favorite weapon.
04:53This is the torpedo launcher.
04:55As you can see, it basically burrows under the ground and then you can control when it detonates
05:01and basically just, you know, wait for guys to line up and then just blow them up from underneath their
05:07feet, which is awesome.
05:10And I like all those boulders coming down the hill.
05:12Those are crushing.
05:13So if you hit them just right, those boulders will crush the guys.
05:16But it's pretty cool just to watch that torpedo gun.
05:23And boulders be damned.
05:29So yeah, I like the scar that it leaves on the earth, too.
05:31It's really beautiful.
05:32And that's because some of that stuff is kind of work in progress, too.
05:35Like that's not necessarily the final look.
05:36I think that Dan Hay, who's the art director and executive producer over there, he's got some ideas on where
05:42that's going to go in the future.
05:44You know, there's all kinds of guys working on this stuff.
05:48Oh, here we go here.
05:49So luckily, because Jet was able to take out those AA guns, we've got this dropship that's going to land
05:54here.
05:55It's good stuff.
05:57And these guys are actually going to drop off a crate of spike grenades that Jet's going to need to
06:02complete his objective here.
06:04You can actually throw a grenade that creates this big spike out of the ground.
06:09And you can use it to lift grates, as you can see.
06:13So here he's using these spike grenades in a different way.
06:16He basically jumped on top of it as it came out of the ground.
06:18Yeah, but he's totally getting his ass handed to him.
06:19You're way too exposed up there.
06:21Like, I don't know if you've...
06:22I'm not sure he picked a good place for that.
06:25No, not really.
06:26But he did get an achievement.
06:27I guess he did.
06:27Yeah, I guess he did after all.
06:29No, but it's just a cool example of a different way to sort of, you know,
06:33see the battleground and figure out ways to take out your enemies.
06:38Really get the lay of the land, figure out where all the hidden goodies are, that kind of stuff.
06:41Yeah, you may not want to do that when there's like 30 guys.
06:45Imagine this in multiplayer.
06:47That's the crazy thing.
06:48Like, these AIs, you know, they're cool and everything.
06:52But, you know, it's even more ridiculous in multiplayer.
06:56You know, I don't want to overstate the obvious, but, you know, Chris has just...
06:59He's played the game a lot, so he's sort of just naturally raising and lowering the ground as he goes
07:04through.
07:06The thing about TD is it's just like it's integral to the game.
07:09I mean, as soon as you play it, you'll just start using it without even thinking about it.
07:13I mean, essentially, you know, TD is the new black.
07:17And it really does become sort of second nature.
07:19And it's just a really handy way to, you know, get cover for yourself or throw the guy that's trying
07:23to shoot you off balance.
07:24Yeah, like, why don't you try it with one of your friendlies just to not be mean or anything, but
07:29just to show, like, throw him up in the air.
07:31Yeah, see?
07:32Did you see how he sort of like got launched a little bit further?
07:34It's cool because you can try some skeet shooting maneuvers.
07:37I'm sure they won't mind dying if you want to, you know, kill him for the sake of showing that.
07:42We don't encourage that.
07:43But you're too nice, aren't you?
07:45Yeah.
07:45Right, it's not game friendly.
07:48Okay, well, so let's, you want to use your leverage, use your spike grenade as leverage here.
07:55We like this.
07:56We like the grates using spikes to open grates.
07:59We also like using spikes to crush people.
08:02Well, there you go.
08:04Nicely played, Chris.
08:06I'm surprised.
08:06Usually you suck at this mission.
08:08Yeah.
08:09Yeah, so that's just a quick example of, you know, one little slice of the game.
08:14Yeah, this mission goes on like quite a ways after this, but this is just a little tiny taster.
08:18There's a lot more to come and tons more enemies, tons more weapons that you'll see in the game.
