00:30I am a very ambitious in a good way the way that we want to make the the games that
00:36can show off
00:37Our passion and our talent the basic philosophy is pretty much just to invest every bit of yourself into
00:45Into the products we make and we have a group of very talented people and I think we're probably the
00:52best people in the industry
00:54Lots of freedom lots of responsibilities a lot of tape
00:57Duct tape it's a lot of fun I mean I get paid to make video games almost glued it's pretty
01:03good
01:03The guys have really fought to keep that sort of garage developer mentality
01:09Blood sweat tears a lot of heart
01:13Gonzo kick-ass game making
01:15It's organized chaos
01:16It amazes me every single time I see it
01:18Since Nidog's inception we've always wanted to have that Nidog signature so everything we do we bring that artistic flair
01:26to it
01:26Attention to detail and to the story
01:28I wish to make the absolute best experience for the player
01:33We count on each other to push each other further than we thought we could go
01:37Whatever an individual cannot solve alone we can always come up with something together
01:42The artists contribute to the game design the game designers are you know working on the art direction the look
01:50We argue a lot and we fight all the time and because a lot of this stuff is subjective and
01:54but I think at the end of the day is all that argument is really putting all the ideas on
01:59the table and the best idea rises to the top
02:01What we're driven by is like making the best game possible
02:05A piece of art that we want to be proud of a game that we want to play
02:08It's not ego or anything like that it's just all about the game
02:11That's the key of the success
02:13Trying to get the damn game to work
02:14I mean deep shit
02:15Can I see my family now?
02:16Nidog actually started off back in the 80s when Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin called the company Jam Software for
02:24Jason and Andy Magic
02:25Well we got on the big stage back in 1996 with the release of Crash Bandicoot on the PlayStation 1
02:30And then when we moved on to PlayStation 2 we developed the Jak and Daxter franchise
02:34And now here we are on the PlayStation 3 launching our brand new franchise Uncharted and Drake's Fortune
02:38We've grown to you know almost 90 people now so the company is getting pretty large but we're really trying
02:44to maintain that smaller company feel and just keep things fun and relaxed around the office
02:52For me Naughty Dog is my second family
02:55Guys you're family you know close
02:57We do a lot of long hours but we have fun
02:59Casual Friday all the time
03:01The humor is really open it's it's a great work environment
03:05We have yoga classes
03:06It's very California
03:07It's good for them to find the resource to and the strengths to work here
03:12We have foosball right? Reigning champion
03:14And then we have ping pong
03:15They're just a bunch of kids
03:16Uh, dodgeball
03:17One time we went on a river racking trip
03:19Very often we'll just play the game ourselves and try to beat each other
03:23I'm not so much of a game player
03:26Last demo we had 5 minutes and 37 seconds
03:30Programmers know that they really have to foster a good relationship with the artist
03:33I think the best one was the paintball game
03:36It takes a team effort
03:38Shooting people with paintballs is fun in general
03:40Especially when you're co-workers
03:42Uh, get a ticket
03:43Call the call center
03:44That's how I can do it
03:47There's two French people in the company
03:48There's me and there's Pogo
03:49She's a French bulldog
03:50Pogo's a bitch
03:52She's probably the most important French person in the company
03:55She's the little princess
03:56She's our dog here
03:57I am the Naughty Dog
03:58Little beast
03:59It's always been a tradition to have a dog mascot
04:02When Evan walks around with her it's like Dr. Evil and his cat
04:04She's my French bulldog
04:06Coming in the morning right
04:07She's die
04:07Uh, sometimes you can smell it
04:09You see what I mean
04:10Sitting on getting ready to work
04:11She's always looking for food
04:12Digging through trash cans
04:13Pogo's awesome
04:14Especially when she's in my trash can and spill everything on the floor
04:18Nowhere else in the game industry the company's president is walking around cleaning after the dog
04:22One of the greatest feelings you can ever have in the game industry is shipping a game
04:26When it finally goes gold master and you know that all that effort has paid off
04:31For a long time you think is this really a game? Do we have a game?
04:33And then this moment comes along and you play it one day and all of a sudden you realize hey
04:39this is actually a video game and it's fun
04:41For me it's when I see that people can really create and work and they have everything they need to
04:49do what they really want to do for the game
04:52I have young nephews that always look forward to playing my games and it's always something special to see them
04:57playing around Christmas
04:59See them in their face light up and you get to actually have a hand in making something that creative
05:03and that wonderful to play
