00:02We're here at the New York Comic Con
00:03showing off the combat for Dragon Age Origins,
00:07which is Bioware's next great fantasy role-playing game.
00:10This is the PC version, it's a single-player game.
00:12We're here showing off combat for the first time,
00:14allowing our fans to come out and play the game for themselves.
00:18Now in this case, I'm playing a mage class character.
00:21This is me in the front row here.
00:22I have some party members as well with me.
00:25I'm going to go ahead.
00:26We're being attacked by a group of Darkspawn
00:28that have captured this building that we're in
00:30called the Tower of Ishaal.
00:31We're going to go into battle and we're going to start attacking them.
00:34Now the choice of how you play Dragon Age Origins is up to you.
00:37I can take control of my party and they will wait for my instruction
00:41or I can free them and the game's AI will take care of itself.
00:46In this case, I'd be taking a little damage,
00:48so I'm going to go ahead and heal myself up with some quick spells.
00:51There's many different spell effects in the game.
00:56Some of which are beneficial, such as healing.
00:58Others are more powerful.
01:00In this case, this is an Icy Winner's Grasp.
01:06I can also set off something very powerful like a fireball.
01:14And how you play the game is totally up to you.
01:16In this case, I've taken control of the power again.
01:18I'm going to switch to some of my other party members.
01:23We're going to move into battle.
01:24This person's equipped with a crossbow, but I don't really need a crossbow at this stage,
01:28so I'm going to switch up my weapon really quickly to a different weapon set that I have in reserve.
01:32We're going to go into battle, and I'm going to use a shield bash and try to knock him down.
01:39As with any good fantasy role-playing game, you're going to want to loot the corpses,
01:42try to find some cool magical items maybe, a little new gold or silver.
01:47You'll notice that one of my party members had dropped while he was in combat.
01:50As long as one member of your party manages to successfully survive to the end of combat,
01:55you're going to be able to regenerate and come back at the end of the party,
01:57and we're slowly going to regenerate health.
01:58But we're going to take a little permanent damage.
02:01I've been taking a head trauma, so now my willpower is reduced
02:04until I get a chance to rest back at base camp
02:06or maybe quaff a potion that's going to be able to speed my healing.
02:11So now we're going to go ahead and move into the next area.
02:13Again, how you play the game is going to be up to you.
02:16I could let the party move individually.
02:18I can actually issue them direct commands.
02:21So in this case, I'm going to move this fighter to this position before we move into the door.
02:27This guy's going to guard here.
02:28I'm going to leave my mage right where she's standing
02:30so she can provide feedback from behind.
02:32And I'm going to use Alistair to go ahead and move right into battle.
02:38We've got some darkspawn coming.
02:39I'm going to make things a little more helpful for us.
02:42I'm going to cast a beneficial spell from my party.
02:44I'm going to add fire to all of our weapons.
02:47Now we're going to do a little extra damage.
02:53I'm going to move into the room now, see what's on the other side.
02:55We've got a few more darkspawn.
02:57I'm going to try to cast off a flaming blast.
03:05Catching two of the darkspawn in the same power effect.
03:12And again, when it comes on to a four-on-one situation,
03:15you've got the party strategy on your side and you've got the dynamics to win.
03:24Continue to explore through the area.
03:26We've got one lone little genlock here.
03:29I'm going to go ahead and let him distract.
03:31The enemy eye is also very intelligent.
03:33It's usually a good thing to try to focus on the party's mage.
03:37When you've got three fighters coming up behind you,
03:40it's a no-win situation.
